At 28, is Kyle Shanahan the youngest O.C. in the history of the NFL?

I can't seem to find an answer for this anywhere.

Of course, I can't also find an answer to exactly what Alex Gibbs will be doing either. I thought usually your Assistant Head Coach was one of your Coordinators?

I have no idea what team you're talking about, but..

The Redskins have a structure like this (or had under Gibbs). Gregg Williams and Al Saunders were assistant head coaches (in fact, so was Joe Bugel) and Don Breaux and Greg Blache were listed as OC and DC. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washing...Current_staff).

Well for the Colts the assistant coach is Jim Caldwell, the QBs coach.

The aricles I see say the Gibbs was hired as Assistant Head coach PERIOD. Not Asst. Head Coach / Coordinator, or Head Coach / Pos coach. Just that Gibbs was hired as Asst. Head Coach.

Seems strange to bring in Gibbs and promote Shanahan at the same time.

Except for Wannstedt in Miami under Jimmy, I have never hear of this before.

Wow, I thought there would have already been an answer on who the youngest O.C. in NFL history is/was?

cartman 01-11-2008 10:12 AM

According to the article in the Houston Chronicle, yes, he is the youngest OC in league history.

Dola,

I believe Jeff Fisher was also 28 when he became DC of the Eagles.

Jeff Fisher was 30 when he was promoted to DC in Philly. I think Dungy was 28 when he got the Steelers DC job in the mid-80's.

I would think the next youngest OC is Josh McDaniels of the Patriots, who's 31 and has had that position for three seasons.

How does anybody even know the names of more than, say, 3 coordinators in the entire league? I can barely remember all 32 head coaches at any given time.

If you read this thread you just learned who three of them are.

It took several hours just to find out what team this was about. I don't have time to read this whole thread!

You know that old expression about "too many cooks"? According to the Sporting News this is how the coaching staff now looks.

Head Coach: Gary Kubiak ---Ex Off Coord.
Asst Head Coach: Alex Gibbs --"In charge of the Offense"--
Offensive Coordinator. Kyle Shanahan Newly promoted O.C.

This could be the perfect storm for a winless season.

What is the line from Office Space about having 3 bosses?:D

Tasan 01-12-2008 10:16 AM

From what they are saying down here on the radio, Gibbs is going to assume some of his old responsibilities as O Line coach that he used to do in Denver. That seems logical, as newly departed Mike Sherman used to be the O Line coach.
