Personally I'd try to save up a couple hundred extra bucks and get a dual core chip of some kind. Sure that laptop is cheap, but it's still a decent amount of cash, and I'd want something that is going to hold up for several years.

512 megs of ram for Vista I also imagine would be pretty painful as well.

I thought it was the pink one at first. :)

Yeah.. celeron processor and 512 MB of ram.. yikes!

I'm not big on Gateway, but spend the extra $150 and get the one next to it if you're trying to keep it cheap.

The 512MB on Vista is just asking for pain.

It's $349 here. Our ad is exactly the same except for the price.

All the little extras are fine. Similar to most other systems out there. The problem is that you cannot run Vista on a Celeron with only 512MB of RAM and shared graphics trying to hog some of that memory. Anything you try to do will be immensely slow.

I was playing around with my wife's mom's laptop with 512MB of RAM and Vista and a lot of things run slow on it- I'm not talking about multitasking, I mean single task. I told her to add an extra GB of RAM and it runs just fine.

I would agree.

If they would put Windows XP on that other one, I guess it would ok for simple things like running text sims and what not.

Or just a generic surf, email, and office box. It'd be great for that. But, again, you'd have to have a copy of XP sitting around to install on it, otherwise, it's suddenly a $350-$400 laptop and not remotely a good deal.

I fully agree. I would go with the 2nd setup.

yeah.. it was the $449 one that i'm talking about

they also have a $749 toshiba with 13.3" screen thathas the ewest intel series chips, too

sigh

finkenst 10-07-2007 04:20 PM

dola,

also, that toshiba, the person who would be using it and carting it around prefers the toshiba because it is smaller.. and frankly it also has 160gb hd vs 120 and the new intelset...

ah well

MizzouRah 10-07-2007 05:41 PM

The Toshiba doesn't seem like a bad deal either.
