Top 5 Preseason for '03? Anyone?

Also, any surprises out there in store for '03? Or major letdowns from big '02 Seasons?

Yes.

MylesKnight 01-25-2003 02:57 PM

Just the kind of answer I was hoping to get Grant. :D

Just curious, if the Gators 2003 is similar to their '02, will Zook & Co. even be around the following season? Also, Tennessee seems to be going up in smoke..

The $EC East may soon be known as Bulldog Territory, unless UK, So. Carolina, or Vandy can make a race out of it.. :D :D

I'm not ready to predict anything. Tennessee and Florida has too much talent left to say they are done. They both had some problems last year, but that doesn't mean they will not sort it out before next year.

In the west, I would say it was open and shut for Auburn, but again, you never know. LSU, Arkansas, or somebody out of nowhere could surprise. College football has such a high turn over from year to year, and players that didn't do much last year could become All-Americans this year (David Pollack anyone?).

So my best prediction is, yes, there will be surprises.

HornedFrog Purple 01-25-2003 07:26 PM

I will wait until I read some stuff going on in spring practices and who ended up where before I make a fool of myself. :)

I will predict that IMTG will say something stupid about Colorado though. ;)

IMetTrentGreen 01-26-2003 05:22 AM

1. TCU
2. Texas a&m
3. Missouri (maybe the AP will stop voting those basketball clowns in and move some votes over to the football team)
4. Miami
5. OU
.

.
118. Colorado

Go-Buckeyes 01-26-2003 10:12 AM

I'm actually looking forward to seeing how well the two Kentucky teams are gonna look this upcoming season. With both teams having new coaches, and not a lot of expectations, it would be nice for either Louisville or Kentucky to put together a respectable type of season. Just something to keep fans reminded that we're not only known for basketball.

MylesKnight 01-26-2003 10:51 PM

Here's a prediction.. (and one I am strongly confident in I might add).

We will not have a repeat National Champion at the end of the next season.. Winning Ugly University won't have lady luck on their side to help them squeeze out all of those victories in the Fall of '03. ;)

tucker342 01-27-2003 07:20 PM

You heard it here first, the 2003-2004 National Champions.......

Iowa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

tucker342 01-27-2003 07:21 PM

I wish, it will probably be OSU, they are definently the favorites

Noop 01-30-2003 11:58 AM

Well all I'm going to say is watch out for the Florida State Seminoles. We are coming back fully loaded and are prepared to start building the Dynasty. Here are some names to look out for Lo Booker, Leon Washington, Craphonse Thrope, PK Sam, Byrant McFadden, Leroy Smith, Ryan Gilliam, Chris Davis, Eric Moore, and well hell the whole team is something you gotta look out for. I predict a undefeated season but only to lose in the championship against either Texas or a Pac-10 team, you can take that to the bank.

:)

They already play in the regular season every year. Good question though. Noop? Your brother or the Noles?

Noop 01-31-2003 05:12 AM

I am a nole all the way. I'd just hope he does well(a couple tackles, int, pass break up)

My Preseason #1 is Ohio State.. but they won't end the Season that way. I give them the 1 Spot because they are the Defending National Champs and also because they do return quite a bit from that team.. But somewhere along the line, they'll actually lose one of those close ballgames that always seemed to go their way in '02. OSU will not even play in the Rose Bowl in '03.. Enjoy the trip to sunny Orlando and the Florida Citrus Bowl my Buckeye friends.

At #2, I go with the Georgia Bulldogs. I think they will be back in New Orleans in January '04 in their second straight Sugar Bowl. The difference being this time the Sugar is for all the marbles.. Mark Richt was the man for this job all along.. Oh, the wasted years on Ray Goff and Jim Donnan...

#3 Oklahoma.. Another Season, another victory over mighty Texas, and another possible National Title Game appearance.. Watch out for Okie State though Sooners.. That should be your National Championship Game for the moment.

#4 Kansas State.. Look out for this team in '03. KSU/OU for the Big 12 Title could also be for a berth in the National Title Game. KSU brings back a lot of very good players, and they are a hungry bunch after last season's BCS snub.

& #5 Miami.. Yes, they lose a lot. But don't they always seem to lose a lot.. The thing is that South Florida Pipeline keeps on running and the 'Canes just keep on reloading over and over again. If they can find a decent QB, they could possibly run the table and be in New Orleans next January. Keep in mind FSU and VT are both road games next season though.. We'll see.

IMetTrentGreen 02-03-2003 03:41 PM

ksu won't be much next year . . . luckily for them the big 12 north will suck even worse than this year

A horrific blimp accident which prevents either from playing and gives the national title to the third place team.

What you guys think of Arizona State...i think they could be a big challenger of USC, or maybe even top them...USC loses RB and QB...ASU loses 1 WR...USC im not sure on defense, ASU loses 1 DE and 2 LB...ASU will rock next year if you ask me....no one had more 400 yard passing days than Walter, and they landed a top 25 recruiting class

dawgfan 04-24-2003 02:05 PM

Oh c'mon - the Sun Devils lose their 3 best defensive players including arguably the most dominant defensive player in CFB in Suggs, plus their best WR and you think ASU will top USC? They'll be 3rd at best behind the Trojans and Huskies, and I can see OSU finishing ahead of them as well.

tucker342 04-24-2003 09:18 PM

no way does Arizona State pass up USC. USC is loaded next year. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them in the national championship game next year.

Blade6119 04-24-2003 11:30 PM

ok, im just saying sure ASU lost suggs and mcdonald(their two starting LBs to), but landing burks and having a young guy takes care of LB, DE you cant replace, but they got some fast kids to try(including Kyle Caldwell, the top recruit from my state and our rivals captain last year...god damn chapparel)...and at WR we have talent to fill the holes...

USC loses a heisman winner, their top 3 RBs, a starting WR, an all american S, and maybe more...Washington was a big let-down last year, and expect no different this year...pickett is like gesser...a good leader and college QB, but not a top talent...wheres their D?...OSU has a good RB, but what else?...lose their best D player, and no one else really did well on that team last year...i see no problem with ASU at least 2nd, and MAYBE 1st...it all depends on how both teams are playing when they meet, and if USC can find a reliable QB...

MrBug708 05-01-2003 01:23 AM

Why is Georgia so high? Didn't they lose a ton last year?

CK#12 05-02-2003 09:40 AM

An opinion from England.

1) Oklahoma
2) Michigan
3) Miami
4) Tennessee - assuming Casey Clausen is healthy again.
5) Texas

cartman 05-08-2003 07:32 AM

Here's my pre pre-season Top 5, from afar:

1) Miami
2) Texas
3) Oklahoma
4) Florida State
5) Michigan

IMetTrentGreen 05-08-2003 11:26 AM

my real one:

1. miami
2. oklahoma
3. ohio state
4. texas
5. usc

VPI97 05-08-2003 01:04 PM

Miami will only be the third best team in the Big East this season...all the talk is about the Pitt/VT showdown.

TroyF 05-08-2003 05:45 PM

1) Ohio State
2) Oklahoma
3) Miami
4) Georgia
5) Texas

You really think USC's O-line and Defense will be enough to overcome a completely green QB and untested RB's?

I'm not sure any PAC-10 team will be top-5 material this season, although if the UW finds a running game and the defense continues improving, they have a favorable schedule if they can knock off tOSU.

IMetTrentGreen 05-08-2003 08:29 PM

honestly i threw usc in because i figured i needed someone form the sec or pac-10. i already had a hard enough time putting osu up there (teams like osu don't repeat)

pete carroll seems to be able to put a good defense on the field, and norm chow fooled the nfl into thinking carson palmer was a #1 overall pick (poor bengals). the recruiting has been good, i trust the coaches, and the sec has lost some of its luster of late. the trojans might be young, but playing freshman today isn't like what it was then. you have to now. everyone does. so usc it was

condors 05-09-2003 05:31 AM

temple will win some games this season maybe even 7

Why not? Ohio St.'s QB was not exactly proven and the RB was a true freshman. It's college it's not like teams get years to groom players anymore. Especially with so many stars leaving early.

dawgfan 05-09-2003 04:40 PM

Krenzel at least had some playing experience, while all of USC's candidates are green.

I'm not saying USC might not end up in the top-5 - there's probably 30 teams out there that have a reasonable shot at doing so depending on how things break during the season - but to expect them to be a top-5 team this season seems a bit of a stretch.

Craptacular 05-10-2003 11:04 PM

I predict that no "major" college team will go undefeated in the regular season. There will probably be 4 or 5 "major" one-loss teams. We'll have lots more BCS fun!!!
