Restaurant.com - half price gift certificates

Currently running a half-off promotion at this site, which has been discussed here before.

Your discount code is: 58004

If you haven't before, give this a look. You are buying a gift certificate to a restaurant, at a price well below its face value. I just bought several $25 GCs, paying either $10 or $5 for them... and on top of that I apply the 50% discount, meaning that the $25 in food costs me either $5.00 or $2.50.

Some places have strings attached - read the details. Some restrict what days of the week they are usable for, or require a party of a certain size, that sort of thing. But if you can find a local restaurant that you visit anyway, and the restrictions (if any) aren't a problem -- this is basically free money.

The way this works, incidentally, is you pay them (credit card or PayPal), and they send you a link to print out the GC yourself. It will have a serial number that the restaurant uses to confirm it -- and I have never had any problem using them. Good deal all around, it seems, as long as the restaurant values the patronage enough to sacrifice its regular prices.

FYI - I believe the discount applies through 3/11.

Ksyrup 03-07-2005 10:03 AM

1 restaurant within a 30 mile radius, down by the beach. Oh well. Thanks for the link, I'm thinking this might do my parents in Dallas a bit more good than me.

miked 03-07-2005 10:10 AM

Sweet, I can get a discount when dining at the Foggy Goggle.

miked 03-07-2005 10:12 AM

Dola- In Boston, Vinalia is on the list. I heard this place was great. It says you have to present the coupon before ordering, and given the area and nature of this restaurant, I don't know what kind of service you'd get. But if you're in the Boston area, this is a pretty awesome deal.

Wolfpack 03-07-2005 10:14 AM

I could get them for the Bayou Grill but between my wife and me, we don't spend $35 there so that nixes that idea.

Wow. I get 6 pages of hits for my location, and that doesn't even reach to Baltimore or Washington.

Wolfpack 03-07-2005 10:15 AM

I just witnessed the timestamp bug in action. My post was after QS's because I hadn't seen that before, yet my post ends up a minute earlier than his. Almost like catching an X-Ray burst from a black hole.

gottimd 03-07-2005 10:16 AM

Or you could go on ebay and buy a $25 gift certificate for $30.

Ksyrup 03-07-2005 10:22 AM

I just did a search by region of Florida, and there are a total of 18 restaurants from Gainesville to Pensacola. Perhaps they've bought into the mistaken belief that most people in NW Florida don't have electricity, much less internet access.

Although, I will admit that I've seen people at restaurants in this town for whom a night at Red Lobster was worth the 75 minute drive, and who will probably be back in town in 2 months for another "big night out." Still, there are a few of us who can't show you exactly where Deliverance was filmed.

gottimd 03-07-2005 10:24 AM

If you ever in the Rockville area, Amada Amante is really good.

Celeval 03-07-2005 10:25 AM

QS - any recommendations for the MD area?

WSUCougar 03-07-2005 10:29 AM

Hey Quik, have you ever eaten at the Tidewater Grille in Havre de Grace?

My wife and I had two of our most romantic and tasty meals there several years ago. Great view of the river and all.

gottimd 03-07-2005 10:32 AM

Nicks Chophouse in Rockville is also really good.

Well, I didn't see anything in the Columbia area that really struck my fancy, though when searching, I did decide to buy a couple of $25 GCs for Zapata's, as Mrs. Q and I are on a seemingly endless quest for a decent Mexican brunch buffet.

However, if you are at all interested in more "exotic" foods (no, not the salad bar at a strip club), I would highly recommend The Mango Grove, which is an all-vegetarian, Southern Indian restaurant in Columbia, which is just dynamite.

If you're willing to drive a little ways, the best seafood around is at an out-of-the-way joint in Lanham, of all places. Jerry's Seafood is a little dumpy, won't take reservations, and is pretty expensive. So, why bother? Oh. My. God.

And if you might be inclined to have Chinese, the best around will be a bit of a drive for you as well, but Grace's Fortune (sorry for the lousy link) is outstanding, and has a knockout Sunday Buffet for about $18. We're there about once every three weeks, it's sensational.

Have never been... we don't get up that far north too often, except when we're flying through on our way to Atlantic City, and then there's no time to stop for scenery, you understand.

oliegirl 03-07-2005 11:25 AM

We just bought 2 $25 gc's for a great italian place called Dominicks....and 2 $10 gc's for a new italian place called Asiago that we have been thinking about trying...total of $15.50 for all 4 :)

miami_fan 04-05-2005 10:03 PM

Hopefully they're paying cash. It's hard to scam The Man when folks pay with CCs... ;)

Not that anyone here would not do this, but just in case, you should leave a tip for the pre-discount amount.

The biggest text on the certificate says, "Please Remember To TIP YOUR SERVER On The Full Value Of The Guest Check." :)

cartman 07-25-2008 07:30 PM

Dang, all of my favorite places in Austin are either not there, or listed as 'sold out' :(

oliegirl 07-25-2008 09:35 PM

We LOVE restaurant.com, use it frequently for a couple of local places. I bought my parents one of the $125 gift certificates for Christmas, I had a promo code so I paid $50 for it, then with the promo codes for 50 and 70% off, they were able get at least double that in restaurant certificates. They loved it.

Neuqua 07-27-2008 07:13 PM

Question, if I buy two or more cards for the same location, would they let me use them at the same time? Or is that usually not allowed?

JeeberD 07-27-2008 07:20 PM

Nope, not allowed. In fact, you're not supposed to use certificates at the same location more than once a month, but I'm not sure how they enforce that...

oliegirl 07-27-2008 07:22 PM

We've used them more than once a month, but have never used two in the same visit. They also won't let you "split" the check between 2 couples and each use one...one coupon per table.

RendeR 07-27-2008 07:59 PM

Most of them state on the printout that they are for one table per visit per month.

At least the ones I bought for this swanky place here in buffalo did.

SackAttack 07-27-2008 09:19 PM

Totally doesn't surprise me that the GC's for the Bear Pit are out of stock. That there is some good BBQ.

Suburban Rhythm 07-31-2008 10:08 AM

Not sure how valid it is, haven't tried it out yet.

But someone in my office just sent out a mail with 'CRAVE' as the current password to save up to 70% at restaurant.com

All the ones they have on there locally say they add the tip to the bill.

clemsonfan 08-08-2008 12:50 PM

Today only they are offering 80% off certificates. The key word is: FIRST

Capital 08-09-2008 01:19 PM

I assume that they mail you the certificates...never used this site before but if you all say it's legit...

Sorry...no need to reply...I just read the first link again...

Flasch186 08-09-2008 02:10 PM

you print out the coupon and take it with you. Ive used it multiple times....and it is spectacular.

Capital 08-09-2008 02:16 PM

It's hard to believe that it's 80% of the restuarant.com price. I'm definitely going to try this out.

Does anyone know what is the expiration date - generally speaking.

Capital 08-09-2008 02:32 PM

Thanks again guys...I just order $60 worth of certificates for $4.80.

Thanks Clemsonfan for offering up the code. Do you get emailed the code or is it mostly word of mouth.

clemsonfan 08-09-2008 04:30 PM

I got emailed the codes. They will email you discount codes from time to time once you order from them.

clemsonfan 08-09-2008 04:31 PM

They have actually extended the sale through Sunday now.
