Inspired by the "What's For Lunch" thread, I've decided to create this recipe cookbook so you can share some of your homemade favorites.
I believe this was tried a long time ago, but for some reason never caught on. So let's give it another shot. Allez cuisine! ABC |
Ham Sandwich
Ingrediants:
Place bread with slices seperated on a plate. Squeeze out mustard onto bread to taste. Use knife to spread mustard onto bread. Place ham on second slice of bread. Place first slice onto of second slice, preferably with the mustard side down. Enjoy with a nice slice of pickle, some chips, and maybe some fruit. Also, a beverage helps wash things down. |

Ice Water
Ingredients: 3 - 4 Ice Cubes 8 oz Water 1 Tall Glass Drop Ice Cubes into Tall Glass. Pour water over Ice Cubes. Serve chilled. |

And radii asks why I never let him cook...this thread is reason enough! Here I was all ready to get some yummy new recipes to try and I get nothing but sandwich and ice water recipes...pathetic! |
Is there a low carb water substitute I can use? I'm on the Atkins.

Ingredients: French Fries Gravy Cheese Curds (cubes can do) Place cheese curds (or cubes) over warm French fries. Pour hot gravy on top Voilą! Edit: to add that I'm not sure this is good for Atkins dieters :D |

In response to inquiries, here is the recipe for "Hopping John":
1 cup dried Black-eyed peas 3 1/2 cups of water 1/2 pound of thick cut bacon 1 onion, chopped 1 green bell pepper, chopped 2 celery stalks, chopped 1 clove garlic, minced Tabasco (to taste) Cajun Seasoning (to taste) 1/2 cup raw rice (not the instant or minute rice) Put the peas and water in a pan, bring to a boil Let boil for five minutes Remove from heat and cover the pan, letting the peas soak for an hour While the peas are soaking, chop the bacon into pieces and fry in a large frying pan Once the bacon is cooked, remove the bacon from the pan, and sautee the veggies in the bacon fat. Cook until the veggies are soft After the peas are through soaking, drain the water, rinse the peas, and add back in 3 1/2 cups of water, the cooked bacon, and the sauteed veggies Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer Cook for 90 minutes Add the rice and seasonings Cover the pot, and cook another 30 minutes It's easy enough to double the amounts in the recipe and make a big batch. This stuff gets even better as leftovers the next day |
Los Patios Cheese Soup
1/4 cup margarine 3 reen onions, chopped 3 ribs celery, chopped with leaves 2 grated carrots 2 cans chicken broth 3 cans Cream of Potato soup 8 oz grated Cheddar cheese 1 Tablespoon fresh parsley flakes 3 shakes Tabasco sauce (I personaly use more than the recipe calls for :D ) Salt and pepper to taste 8 oz sour cream 3 Tablespoons sherry In margarine, saute onions, celery and carrots over low heat. Add chicken broth; cover and simmer 30 minutes. Add potato soup, cheese, parsley, Tabasco, salt and pepper. Stir in sour cream and simmer 15 minutes. Add sherry, stir and serve: Makes about 10 cups. One of my absolute favorites. It's certainly not for you dieters out there, though... :D |
now for the dessert. Be warned, if you are on any kind of a diet, this isn't for you. I think when I calculated it, there are over 9,000 calories in this puppy!!! :D
White Chocolate Almond Pecan Pie 4 eggs, beaten 1 cup light corn syrup 2/3 cup of Sugar 3 tb. butter, melted 1tb vanilla extract 1tb almond extract (can also substitute Amaretto) 1tb chocolate extract (can also substitute Godiva Chocolate liquer) 6 oz. white chocolate, melted 1 cup pecan halves 1 cup sliced almonds 1 9 inch deep dish unbaked pastry shell Combine the first eight ingredients, beat with a mixer until completely blended. Stir the pecans and almonds into the mixture. Pour the mixture into the pastry shell (you'll probably have a little more mixture than the shell can hold). Bake at 350 for 55 minutes to an hour. |
I nominate the salmon oliegirl makes, lots of other stuff too, but she knows that's my favorite.
I think it's something like this: put salmon and some other stuff in the oven cook some rice or some other side dish too put some herbs and/or spices on the fish oh, CAPERS too(I don't know what they are but I know that Oliegirl had me get some from the inlaws last time I was over there) And there you have it. Now you, too, can make the best dish served in the Dixon household. :D If I can find the family recipe book that my mom put together a few years ago I'll submit my mom's taco casserole recipe. even I can make it(though I haven't in a very very long time now) and it was one of my favorites growing up. |
Desnudo's Firehouse Chili
Ingredients: 1 Car $5 Instructions: Get in car and drive for five minutes Get out of car and enter supermarket Ladle chili into carton Pay cashier $5 Get in car and drive for five minutes Enter house Remove top of carton and add several shakes of hot sauce and some shredded cheddar cheese Enjoy! |

Beef a la Rice
1 cup chopped mushrooms 1 carrot, grated 1 lb ground beef 1/3 cup red wine 1 can beef consume 2 small garlic cloves 1/4 cup water pepper for taste papperica for tate cooked rice Brown ground beef. Add garlic and saute. Stir. Add carrots and mushrooms and saute. Add consume and water. Stir. Add seasonings. Simmer for an hour. THicken with starch. Serve over rice. Serves six. Just a little dish I invented when I was 12 or 13. Kinda boring now (needs Tabasco!), but not bad for a kid just screwing around in the kitchen... |

Throw everything into the grill basket, saving some of the oil mixture in the bag. Marinate occaisionally with the oil mix, and cook until the sausages are done. |

Eay Tomato Cream Sauce:
4 tablespoons butter 4 tablespoons flour 3 cups whole milk 2 14.5 oz Can Hunt's Diced Tomatoes, Basil Oregano & Garlic flavor 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese In medium sauce pan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour until smooth and bubbly. Add milk and bring to a boil while stirring constantly. Let simmer until thickened, should just be a minute or two. Add the diced tomatoes and cheddar cheese, stir until cheese melted. Serve over your favorite pasta. Parmesan Cheese may be substituted for cheddar cheese. |

My step mom's veggie dip:
1 medium sized green pepper 1/2 small onion 1 8oz package of shredded cheddar cheese (I use the fine cut) 1 16oz Sour cream 1 Tbsp milk Hot Sauce to taste (a few dashes) pinch of salt Dice green pepper and onion add to bowl with sour cream, cheese, and milk. Mix well. Add pinch of salt and a few dashes of hot sauce, mix again. Serve with raw veggies, pretzels, or my favorite - fritos! Todd |

I have quite a few recipes like homemade chili from scratch, rosemary pork chops and potatoes, various pastas, roasts, etc but they aren't really formal, more in my head. All the hatties in chat get to hear about them on a near-weekly basis :) SI |
Pizza Cassarole
Ingredients: 1 pound pasta (bow-tie, spiral, whatever...just no spaghetti, linguine, etc.) 1 pound ground beef 1 can mushrooms 1 can olives 1 cup pepperoni 2 pounds mozzerella cheese 32 ounces of pizza sauce (recommend 64 ounces for a more "pizza" flavor) 1 package pre-cooked bacon 1/2 onion 1 green pepper Boil water. While water is boiling, cut up onion and pepper into small pieces. Throw in pasta when water boils. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees, and cook ground beef, onion, and pepper in frying pan. Drain pasta. Mix 1 pound mozzerella cheese, pasta, beef, onion, pepper, olives, 1/2 cup pepperoni, pizza sauce in cassarole dish. Spread rest of mozzerella cheese on top. Put bacon and rest of pepperoni on top. Cook for 30-45 minutes. Enjoy. |
CW's Standard Issue Quick & Dirty Pseudo Spicy Steak Marinade
1 Steak (Whatever is not beneath you) Black Pepper Meat Tenderizer Minced Garlic Minced Onion Habanero Sauce A-1 Bold & Spicy Crushed Red Pepper Soy Sauce Acquire steak in good sized pan. Apply tenderizer as necessary. Apply generous amount of garlic, onion, red repper, black pepper. Lightly rub in habanero sauce. Brush with a spattering of A-1 Bold 'n Spicy. The Habanero is for the big kick, this is merely additional flavoring. Don't get nuts. Flip steak, repeat above. Apply generous helping of soy sauce to both sides. Cover pan, let steak sit in that lovely marinade for as long as you can stand it. The longer it soaks that concotion in, the better. Grill by fire and charcoal. Cooking flesh by any other means forfeits any rights you have to owning a penis. Serve with quality beer. |

Let me clarify this recipe: Spray a large piece of tin foil with pam (or other cooking spray), lay a piece of salmon in the middle of the foil, sprinkle generously (make sure it's totally covered) with lemon pepper, add a couple shakes of dill weed, and top with capers. Fold the foil over the salmon to make a pouch - leave room for the air to circulate. Bake at 350 for about 20-25 minutes or until salmon is flaky. There is a yummy rice dish that is great with it, but it's time consuming to make, so I usually just make a Lipton Rice Side Dish with it. Radii loves it, and it's one of my favorites too...we are having it for dinner tomorrow night :) |
