Cap question
Quoting from an article on Yahoo today
Quote:
Right. well, if his base salary is about 10 mil, and his salary cap value about 12 mill. then why if they cut him, do they only gain 2 million? I thought only bonus money counted when you cut a guy, not his 'base salary' |
Quote:
He has 5 years left on the deal, so the remaining bonus money is excellerated to this season and next. Edit: Its hard to break down why they save that much without the specifics to the deal. |
aah,
i missed the '5 years left bit' cheers. |
Quote:
Shocking that they signed him to deal that is that cap unfriendly, isn't it? |
Totally unrealistic. Don't they play with house rules?
|
I believe if they cut him before June 1. his value isnt split between this year and next, and is instead calculated solely on this year.

Correct. When you cut a guy before June 1st, you take the entire cap hit (everything left) immediately. When you cut a guy after June 1st, you evenly split the cap hit between the current season (2004) and the next one (2005). See what the Jets are doing with Vinny Testaverde for an example of this. |
