[FOF/TCY] Enter The Matrix

What if you were part of a consortium of evil overlords sometime in the 23rd century who used human beings as a source of power and entertainment, a la "The Matrix?" Suppose some of you got together and wanted to introduce a professional football program. The league would mimic the NFL from a few hundred years ago. A college system would be put in place to provide a regular influx of talent. Once the program is running, you'll mostly just watch, and have regular input on the management decisions of one of the teams in the league. The Matrix will manage the other 31 teams.

Your input is requested to help build the foundation of the league. Each team will be granted the following players:

1 Rare Superstar
1 Superstar
2 Near Superstars
2 Elite Starters
2 Excellent Starters

Choose a team, and then provide names, positions, and (optionally) any particular attributes you would like to see generated in each player for each of the available slots. You may use actual historical players, or make up entirely fictional characters. Each team will be assigned the 8 players to their initial roster with a 5 year cap-friendly contract.

I doubt all 32 teams will be represented here. Teams will be "assigned" on a first-post, first served basis. Please choose only one team until the thread has been around for a few days, so as to give as many people as are interested a chance to participate. I will play as the Washington Redskins, and will choose the seed roster for that team. If teams are left unclaimed, I'll do my best to fill in the blanks, but they may end up left empty, and thus highly disadvantaged early in the game.

Once the program begins, an annual draft file will be generated from the college program. This file will be modified with draftee suggestions taken from the consortium. Before the draft each year, anyone may provide data for one quality draft prospect. Post as much or as little detail about the draftee as you like - including name, college, hometown, height, weight, etc. Desired skill set will be taken into consideration, but left to my discretion. Any suggested draftee will be a high-round prospect.

Time permitting, I will try to run this dynasty at a one-season-per-week pace. This should allow enough time to get feedback from the board and for me to run the game and compile reports. Please post questions, suggestions, and general feedback concerning the general structure of this dynasty - I'm happy to make changes if they make more sense than what I'm already planning to do here.

JeeberD 10-16-2003 12:52 PM

I'm game. Give me the Cowboys...

Franklinnoble 10-16-2003 01:00 PM

I expected as much. :D Post your players when you get a chance.

Celeval 10-16-2003 01:14 PM

Cleveland Browns, baby.

3ric 10-16-2003 01:22 PM

Can you have a team with characters from "Star Wars" or the WWF, for example? Maybe even cartoon characters, as references to the pop culture of "past times"?

The Force is strong with this one... follow your instincts.

Heck, if you want, you can, say, choose the Arizona Cardinals and re-name them the Mos Eisley Bounty Hunters - so long as there's no objection from the rest of the participants, I think it's best to let everyone have fun with it.

If you like, you can specify which is the "Rare Superstar," etc. Or, if you prefer, you can leave that to chance.

DolphinFan1 10-16-2003 01:56 PM

I really want to join, but I'm not sure how much time this will take. I want to make sure I will be able to do it.

If it isn't too much time to do, I will be the Miami Dolphins. Are you surprised?

Wow, and I was going to go for the Vikes before settling on the Oilers. Wonder how Tark, Carter, Reveiz, Smith and co are going to enjoy watching Salisbury at the helm. Is he still hosting that show with the remote control home made bashing bots?

Dammit, Travis. I was a day late and a dollar short. I wanted to take Tennessee and rename them the Oilers. I would have gone with Childress over Dishman, but a good job for the most part ;)

Unfortunately, I don't really have any teams I'd be interested in using other than the Oilers but Travis looks to represent us well. :D

Heh, you nailed my last choice on the nose there. That, or I was considering Kearse on the end, but would have ended up taking Childress over him. Just couldn't pass up that shut down corner though.

JeeberD 10-17-2003 01:17 AM

Well, maybe you can have an Oilers Part Deux. You know, Cody Carlson at QB, Lorenzo White at RB, Curtis Duncan, Webster Slaughter, and Gary Wellman at reciever. You can use Childress on the D-Line, Al Del Greco as kicker supreme and top it all off with LB Barron Wortham, that great former UTEP Miner!

Come on SI, it'll be fun! We need you in the league!!!

I just can't do the Oilers without Warren Moon.. Then again, this second Oilers anti-Tennessee team is intriguing *goes to pro-football-reference.com*

Sweet... :D

sterlingice 10-17-2003 01:36 AM

Absolutes:
DE: Ray Childress
WR: Curtis Duncan
So Gary Brown, Lo White, or Mike Rozier?

You know, I just can't come up with enough. I don't know anything about the Luv Ya Blue days except I've seen lots of video about Campbell and Bum Phillips was a huge figure at coach.

It doesn't matter really, take the Cardinals (as I suspect nobody else will) :)

JeeberD 10-17-2003 01:48 AM

You have to go with Lo. at running back...

Hmmm, you could go with Chandler, Carlson, or Bucky Richardson at QB (but really, you have to go with Cody), and there are some pretty decent defensive players you can use. William Fuller, Al Smith, Sean Jones, Lamar Lathon, Blaine Bishop, Daryll Lewis, Barron Wortham ( ;) ), etc...

Don't forget Del Greco either. A great kicker might be valuable...

I mean, you can't go too wrong with McNair, George/White, Slaughter, Duncan, Stepnoski, Kearse, Childress (a'course), Al Smith, Eddie Robinson, Darryl Lewis, Marcus Robertson, or heck, even Del Greco and Montgomery (Roby was with them for a bit too wasn't he?)

Travis 10-17-2003 01:57 AM

And hey, if we have enough Oiler's teams, one of us will have to do well, like when we picked a few of the 80's Oiler's teams for that tourney that was run on here.

I'll take the Arizona Cardinals, make them into the Oklahoma Sooners, but make the players and stuff in a later post.
