Texas Stadium - Thanks for the memories - BLOWN UP THIS MORNING
I was a baby but my parents took me to the very first game, years later I played high school playoff games there, and I saw some great moments over the years I will never forget.

Went to a Pink Floyd concert there once.

Speaking of Floyd... Roger Waters is going to do a tour of Wall concerts. Dates get announced Monday. |

Now if only they'd blow up the new one too.... ;)

wow...a tear in the corner of my eye. Five super bowls, the Doomsday Defense, Roger Staubach, Drew Pearson, Tony Hill, Duane Thomas... memories are all that's left.

No, it isn't. |
My sister, her husband, their 8 and 10 year old daughters, my brother, his wife, and a couple of other friends all met up at 4am to go tailgate before the demolition. I got a text at 9:30 last night asking if I wanted to join them...it's a damn shame I had to work this morning, I would have loved to have joined them there.

Any ideas on when they will be tearing down The Cotton Bowl? I am assuming Jones would love to have all those major football games moved to his own stadium.
Edit: It looks like it was just renovated and expanded in 2008. Where was the Cotton bowl played this year? According to wiki the last NCAA cotton bowl was played in 2009? |
Jerry's lured the Cotton Bowl to his stadium, but I think the Cotton Bowl stadium owners (different from the bowl game owners) successfully persuaded Texas and Oklahoma to keep playing at their site for the next umpteen years a couple of years ago, thus the renovations. As long as UT-OU keeps being played there with the state fair going on, the stadium's not going to go away anytime soon.
Edit to add: a quick Wiki check indicates that the Cotton Bowl game owners opted to go to Jerry World as a hopeful lure to get the BCS to add them as a fifth game, but with the renewal of TV contracts that kept the current setup, that went by the boards. Also, UT-OU is currently planned to be at the Cotton Bowl stadium until 2015. Conveniently, since the City of Dallas no longer needs to subsidize the Cotton Bowl game now that it's in Arlington, they instead threw that money at Texas and Oklahoma to keep them in Dallas. |
Here's a pretty awesome link to a 360 degree camera that was put inside the stadium as the explosions happened:

Was Jerry Jones inside? Please.......
|
yeah, he was inside.

You know what would have been a pretty fun idea? The Cowboys auction off the right to ignite the detonation--focusing on residents of D.C., Philadelphia, and NYC. The winning bid goes to charity. That would have been kind of a fun moment and raised some money for charity to boot. |
