We used to just take the controller apart and use the circuit board, we got better times that way.

We were also one of the beta users for this:

GameLine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The remnants of which went on to form America Online. I thought it was pretty cool to be able to hook your 2600 up to the phone and play games. Little did I know what that would lead to! :)
