2024 Cycling

Cyclingnews article today. (Searched cycling and first was from 2020, so I made a new thread.)

"Anti-doping showed up at an amateur race in Valencia, 130 riders dropped out."

Shocking.

Wow, you know, after everything cycling has gone through, that's awful.

USA rider Matteo Jorgenson won Paris-Nice. Fellow American Brandon McNulty finished third.

Jorgenson is the first US winner since 2006.

Conditions were so bad in yesterday’s Fleche Wallone only a quarter of the field finished.

When Mattias Skjelmose, one of the favourites, abandoned, he was hypothermic, shaking uncontrollably and literally had to be lifted off the bike and carried to the team bus. Fortunately he is OK, but it’s scary how far these guys will push themselves

Video hopefully starts at 30 seconds which shows the abandon in full screen (but it took me years to work out how to embed a video, so getting it to start at a certain point is optimistic!)

For a very few riders winning so many races, it's been a fun season so far.

(Mainly just marking myself as another potential thread participant depending on forum activity.)

To me, it's been a dull season so far. Mathieu van der Poel has won 3 big races with 40+ km solo's, which made those races much less exciting to watch. These were the least interesting Ronde van Vlaanderen and Paris - Roubaix I watched since I've become a cycling watcher about 30 years ago. Tadej Pogacar did the same in Strade Bianche. La Flèche Wallone was decimated by the weather and then there was the disaster pile up in Itzulia Basque with 3 of the 4 best GC riders. Now in Giro d'Italia, it was to be expected that Pogacar would dominate, with so little true contenders dressing up. Milano - Sanremo was fun to watch, and some other smaller races. To me own surprise, I think I've enjoyed the women's races a bit more because so far...
