Mount and Blade v1.003 Released!

Mount&Blade Version 1.003 is ready

Wooo! Just downloaded it. I'm going to give it some time tonight. :D

MacroGuru 12-28-2008 11:41 AM

I am so hooked on this game right now.

It was a nice little christmas present to myself...I am probably going to run a dynasty with it on my free time.

DaddyTorgo 12-28-2008 11:44 AM

i played an earlier version before my old laptop clunked out - i need to DL and play again - i'm sure it's gotten much cooler -- although i always had issues with mounted-combat

Chief Rum 12-28-2008 01:32 PM

So...what is this?

It sounds like some kind of sick sex act.

So you know what it is then?

MacroGuru 12-28-2008 06:52 PM

Check it out...

Mount&Blade

MrBug708 12-28-2008 06:55 PM

I played it for a few hours. Pretty fun game actually. Didnt get very far sadly, but still had an enjoyable time playing

Bigsmooth 01-02-2009 01:23 AM

I just picked this up. Which, if any, mods would you guys recommend? I checked out the forums but couldn't really get a feel for the "must have" mods. Thanks in advance.

MacroGuru 01-02-2009 08:44 AM

The Enhanced Graphic V 2.5 and the HDR for it.

I have installed the Hundred Years War and it is tough, even on the easy settings, so I like that.

But other than that, I haven't played with a lot of the other mods.

I don't know about that, my wife is always trying to block my thrusts.

Quick link to that Graphical Enhancement V2.5

Just downloaded it, looks very nice. Quick question though. Do you need to start a new game for it to take effect?

Not that it's that bad, as I just started, but I'm curious...

FM

FrogMan 01-02-2009 09:17 AM

dola, and the game is now up to version 1.011 (1.010 on Steam).

Not 100% sure, I just downloaded everything, deleted all my save games (I wasn't to far along on any of them) and started a new one...

It does come across dark, but you have to make sure you adjust your video settings to what Zalo (The mod developers) are at, or tweak them to your desire.

MrBug708 01-05-2009 02:52 PM

I ended up buying this game and enjoying going around the countryside. I ended up getting a castle and a village that I am taking care of!

FrogMan 01-05-2009 02:59 PM

I suck badly at it. I have been starting and restarting games where I start running around the coutryside but get stuck hit by a bunch of deserters and they decimate by group of lowly ranked people. I especially suck at fighting...

FM

DaddyTorgo 01-05-2009 03:02 PM

i found the fighting (particularly mounted) to be the hardest. almost frustrating. i want to give it another try now that i have this new mouse though...

gstelmack 01-05-2009 03:05 PM

Thoroughly enjoying this. Battles get a bit easier if you can find one or two hero-types in taverns to help you do the meat of the work and get the low-ranks levelled up. But I still lose occasionally.

FrogMan 01-06-2009 09:20 PM

Ok, definitely got better today. Played a couple hours this afternoon and afternoon adding four cavalry guardsmen (or something like that) to my group, in addition to Nizar, it got a whole lot easier. When you have a group of 15 and you spot a group of 19 deserters in the wild and it says "Running away from...", it means they are afraid of you. :)

Then it got better when I leveled two levels at once for guiding a caravan or merchants from one town all the way accross the land to another town. Only got 200 gold or so, but got tons of experience for it...

I'm still highly frustrated with my bow when riding my horse, but my two handed sword has been good to me.

Don't even bother using your bow when moving on a horse.

yeah, I figured as much. I'm simply running around on my horse and swinging my axe now :)

Also helps now that my troops have evolved a bit and I have a good mix of mounted one and footmen.

sabotai 01-06-2009 10:09 PM

To get good with using a bow when riding, you need to invest points in Horse Archery, get your Archery weapon skill up, and a spend a lot of time practicing. I've gotten pretty good with it and rarely fight any other way.

still can't do it while actually riding the horse, but I got myself stationed in our latest battle and got in a good head shot, not a kill, but still not bad. I got a kill when I got closer and pulled my axe to finish one. :)

There should be some keyboard shortcut to allow us to also raise our hand/arm/weapon when the battle is won. I simply would want to scream like the fellas and celebrate too... :D

MacroGuru 01-07-2009 09:20 AM

To me, the combat is one of the easier parts of the game to understand.

I always use a bow on the horse, with one handed sword and a shield.

I get to the point I shoot their horses with my bow and drop them....let me rank and file deal with the guys on the ground.

I have yet to sit down and truly build my fife though, I need to focus on that one more than anything now I think.

This my preferred tactic as well. I am not very good at this game at all, but that's typically how I fight. I use the bow from horseback and then eventually switch to the sword and ride people down.

FrogMan 01-07-2009 02:04 PM

got a silly question: is there any use to capturing prisoners early on? I'm talking about your usual wounded looters or bandits here. I have 2 in prisoners management, allowing me to keep 10, and at one point had 9 but realized they simply were slowing my group down more than anything else.

You can sell them off to slavers to be sold as slaves. I think you can do this at the Salt Mines and maybe in some of the coastal towns. I am not sure what the price per head is anymore.

thanks for the info. Couldn't find the salt mines but found a slave trader in the tavern at Tihr, yup a coastal town. His going rate was 50 denars per slave.

Again had a lot of little fun tonight. Getting the hang of riding the horse and swinging my new two hand sword. Just love coming at full speed to finish a bandit. Gotta love the swish sound. :)

I freed a couple of little villages from brigands, one of them on a specific quest. Slowly working my way up to where I'll feel comfortable lending my hand to a lord or another.

My son came behind me as I was riding in the countryside. Was his bedtime so I couldn't show him any fights, but I'm pretty sure he'd like playing with it. :)

Yeah, I am playing with one of the mods right now "Prophecy of Pendor" and it is pretty tough.

I am still thinking of running a Dynasty based off of Prophecy of Pendor, 1257 or the Hundred Years.

Izulde 01-08-2009 12:48 AM

I downloaded the demo for this years ago... kind of wish I'd bought the game while it was insanely cheap.

Tempted to demo d/l again.

gstelmack 01-08-2009 08:33 AM

So I've backed off the renderer to DX7 and turned a bunch of stuff down, but this is still shutting my machine down (completely powering it off) after playing for a while. Not sure yet if it's a bug in the game or an issue with my machine / setup.

Which is sad because it's tons of fun.

Yellow5 01-23-2009 12:48 PM

Weekend sale @ Steam for this. Price is $7.50!

Edit: Link http://store.steampowered.com/app/22100/

Thank you for this! :)

Now if the bastards only fixed the Internet access in my apartment so I can download it to my desktop...

gstelmack 01-23-2009 01:08 PM

And it was a bargain at twice that.

FYI, my crash issues appear to be a video card crashing and burning. Civ IV is blowing up too, with corruption first. Not the fault of the game.

Eaglesfan27 01-23-2009 02:11 PM

I've heard enough good things in this thread that I'm going for the sale price this weekend. Thanks for the info.

FrogMan 01-23-2009 02:39 PM

man I've not had time to play this in over a week. Will need to play some this weekend.

And that is a heck of steal at that price. I paid $15 and thought it was really worth it...

FM

SirFozzie 01-23-2009 06:59 PM

Snagged. It will be a good thing to play over the weekend

MrBug708 01-23-2009 09:38 PM

15 was worth it and probably 30 was worth it IMO.

The key is to not load up on special characters but stick to developing the peasants into harden soldiers

MacroGuru 01-23-2009 10:03 PM

I haven't played for a couple of weeks, been focusing on launching and marketing my sites.

I am going to sit down tonight and play a bunch, the wife is out with the girls causing trouble so it's time to vegetate without remorse.

Izulde 01-24-2009 01:39 PM

Dumb question, but how do you dismount from your horse?

SirFozzie 01-24-2009 01:40 PM

Pan down so you're staring at your horse and hit F.

Thanks. :) I suck at horse riding, so trying to get to talk to people was a real pain.

Pumpy Tudors 01-24-2009 09:17 PM

I'm not finding a link to buy on Steam. Is this one of those things that they're "sold out" of?

Eaglesfan27 01-24-2009 09:29 PM

I used the link in this thread and it worked perfectly this afternoon.

Pumpy Tudors 01-24-2009 09:33 PM

Damn. I'm guessing I missed out. I'll keep trying tonight and tomorrow, but I'm not hopeful.

mckerney 01-24-2009 09:47 PM

The page no longer has a purchase option, post on steam forum says that they may be out of CD keys.

Pumpy Tudors 01-25-2009 02:10 PM

I managed to buy it about 20 minutes ago at the $7.50 price. Looks like they got some more CD keys!

mckerney 01-25-2009 02:20 PM

I checked around then too and bought it after seeing it came back up.
