Matt Mauck going pro?
Its true, link here.
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=1707591 I have to admit that I've only seen him play 3 or 4 games, but I never really considered him as one of the players that may leave LSU early. Any idea's on where he might go in the draft? |
I'd think the 5th or 6th round. Isn't he like 26? I think the clock is ticking on his possible career, so what better time to come out.
|
Hmmm.... barring a miraculous combine workout, I don't know if this is a good move. I haven't even heard Kiper mention him in the Top 7-8 when talking about QB's. That means were talking 5th-7th round.
Still, I guess making 250K or more beats dental school. |

He turns 25 this month or next. I still don't think another season hurts him, its not like he's Chris Weinke. |
yeah, Weinke was good
|
I think he has been accepted to dental school or something already, so this may be one of those "I'll give the NFL a shot, and if it works out, great, but if not, I'm going to clean some teeth" decision.

This is good news for us Dawg fans.
|
If he manages to stick on a roster as a #3 QB for a year or two, the rookie minimum salary will certainly help pay for dental school--and he got to play in the NFL. If he does not get drafted, then all he did was waste some time preparing for the combine, etc.
|
I was really impressed by his athleticism. Anyone have thoughts on if he'd be a possible candidate to switch positions (to safety, perhaps)?
|
Mel Kiper reportedly is stating he thinks Mauck will go between the 3rd and 5th round. I hope so, but this seems a little high to me, although 5th round sounds possible. I'll be interested in seeing how this plays out over the next few months.

I saw this and figured that all the LSU players going pro now are just trying to capitalize on the fact the team won the national title and people might give them a second look.
For Mauck, it makes sense. Why come back to college and play another year when its extremely unlikely that LSU will repeat. Someone on ESPN made a good point that Saban should've left while the going was good. That LSU roster is full of local kids, really. Its not a program that recruits nationally and probably never will be, even after winning a national title. Anyway, you all pretty said it best. It seems like a smart move, even if he's a low round pick. |
yeah, Weinke was weed seeds amazon deals good!
