Anyone have Oculus Quest?

The family is considering getting the Oculus Quest 2. Since Christmas is coming in a couple of months, I figured I should start doing some research so I know what I'm getting myself into, and possibly order one in case it sells out before the holidays.

What kind of limitations will I get with the 64GB vs the 256GB? Is there an expandable slot?

Popular games/apps?

Lathum 10-19-2020 12:55 PM

Is that a transformer?

AnalBumCover 10-19-2020 01:29 PM

Oculus Prime's little brother. The Gaming VR system.

Can't really help, but I've been considering VR as well. Mainly for Microsoft Flight Sim. I don't have a Facebook account and I recently read that Oculus is now facebook mandatory even if you have one already. Or at least it will be soonish. That is a major no from me.

Holding out hope that the HP Reverb G2 is good whenever that comes out. next few months maybe?

That was one of the big "no"s for me, as well. But I'm curious about the results for anyone who has one - how do they like it?

SI

I have owned one for a bit now. It's pretty amazing and what sold me in originally getting it was because it was cordless. I have the first version though.

It is the 256GB model and I don't believe all the current games in the library would fill it up. 64GB is actually fine since most people rotate games anyway. But I don't know if in the future they will allow for downloadable videos from the streaming services like other devices.

Lately I have been into the games that inadvertently work you out. Beat Saber, Audio Trip, Fit XR, and Pistol Whip are getting the most play right now.

Vader Immortal is a done very well and I hear good things about Arizona Sunshine (zombie game).

The other benefit about the device is watching some movies as feeling like you are sitting in a movie theater.

And yet another benefit is that you can now play your Steam VR games on the device using either their Oculus Link cable or a third party. This will make you wired, but you will have a larger selection of games to choose from.

The negative about the new version is that they are forcing you to use the Facebook account on it. The first generation doesn't have this, but they recently released a patch stating that sometime later in the year, we would be forced to do so too.

So my wife wa looking at this for my 10 year old. Is it appropriate for that age, or is this something for older folks?

Whats the deal with the facebook thing?

Flasch186 11-30-2020 06:43 AM

Walking Dead is super eerie and intense. I like it more than AZ Sunshine.

There are a lot of games that are kid appropriate. Some might not be depending on your view of "kid appropriate." But there should be enough of a library there for a kid to enjoy.

Facebook owns oculus, so you have to do some things through a facebook account. It is not that big of a deal.

Lathum 11-30-2020 08:01 AM

cool. Thanks.

He is in that age where he isn't really interested in toys except for legos occasionally. He is getting a phone, but my wife wants a few more things for him.

johncolley 12-08-2020 07:59 PM

Oculus Prime's. The Gaming VR system.

BishopMVP 12-13-2020 08:11 PM

Picked up one... Do they have sales on games like a Steam does? i.e. I'll end up getting Beat Saber eventually for when having people over, should I just pay the $40 now?

Also, any off the path game recommendations? I figure I'll go with Arizona Sunshine & some of the Star Wars titles as I get my feet wet.

albionmoonlight 12-13-2020 08:29 PM

I Expect You to Die (A puzzle game with a James Bond vibe)
The Room (A puzzle game with a light horror vibe)

Edward64 12-14-2020 05:26 PM

I'm going to put this on my BF 2021 want list.

Of course, that will means I will need to get a beefy PC with good GPU.

albionmoonlight 12-14-2020 05:37 PM

Actually, the Quest does not need a PC (which is why we got it).

The tradeoff is that it isn't as powerful as the ones that are running off of beefed up PCs

Lathum 12-29-2020 08:26 PM

Arrived today. Would love some game recommendations.

So we finally picked this up when my daughter turned 10. I had been reading about how Oculus is for ages 13+, and that any younger, you will need to limit usage time due to their still developing eyes, yadda yadda...

That said, my daughter can't seem to get enough of Job Simulator.

For the parents, we're playing Beat Saber, of course. And on the suggestion of some of my friends, I'll probably pick up Sports Scramble and/or FitXR

Anyone have TopGolf w/Pro Putt?

Atocep 03-05-2021 02:11 PM

My son is enjoying the Top Golf game, but I haven't played it yet.

The Quest 2 is hands down the best value in VR. My wife, who has little to no interest in video games, has put a few hours into The Room VR and wants to try out Beat Saber.

Flasch186 03-05-2021 02:14 PM

For IRacing with the Link to the PC its nuts

Toddzilla 03-06-2021 09:46 AM

Is there a good option for those of us who do not have Facebook?

Jan135 04-08-2022 10:42 AM

I remember one of my colleagues at the warehouse talking about it. To me it sounded so foreign, so he invited me at his place so that I could see it from the inside. I never went though.

Edward64 07-27-2022 10:57 PM

Anyone tempted to buy Oculus Quest 2 before it jumps from $299 to $399 at end of month?

I've read and seen YT of the Horizon Worlds experience and found it somewhat lacking.

But guess it could be great for games?

thesloppy 07-27-2022 11:23 PM

I got one a couple months ago and still haven't put it to very much use.

Fidatelo 07-28-2022 07:27 AM

My youngest son got an Oculus Quest 2 for Christmas. It rarely ever gets used.

albionmoonlight 07-28-2022 07:29 AM

My son uses it a lot--though mainly hooked up to his PC.

Also, my wife has a workout program on there she really likes.

So for us, it was worth the money.

Mark Zuckerburg, you may look like a robot molesting freak, but my god can you build a headset.

The Quest 3 is utterly ridiculous. Seriously. I was involuntarily laughing and saying I can't believe this a dozen times at least. The experience is next level.

And I am not even using it for games yet.

I set up a work space in a virtual environment with 3 virtual monitors that are connected to my computer and with a wireless keyboard and mouse to get real work done. Now for me, it is just researching, editing and writing documents. There is no photoshop happening up in here, but for what I need done, it works great.

I know it is a bit silly to do this, but sometimes I have a block doing work at home and this allows me to feel like I have left the house when I most definitely am still laying in bed in my intimates.

The key is getting the headset to fit right. I went to a store where they did a terrible job walking me through it and everything was blurry and I thought what a piece of junk, but then I decided to watch enough youtube videos to gaslight myself into not believing my own experience and what a good idea that turned out to be.

At home, without pressure or a line, I was able to adjust my headset just right and then everything looked really clear. I would say the resolution of the screens is about 1080, maybe a bit under so for others it might not work but for guys whose never let low standards get in the way of a good time, it is perfect. I use both virtual desktop and immersed to get my work done .

As for video, OMG. You can put yourself in a movie theater with at least a 100inch screen. The possibilities!!!

Battery life is definitely on the short end. Without it plugged in, I am getting about 90 minutes. I got a long usb c cord to keep it plugged in while using it.

The original headset strap works well for me! But I know there have been a lot of complaints about it.

Oh one more thing... OOTP 24 plays amazing in it. 100inch screen for ootp. Yes, please.

I'm thinking about jumping into Meta Quest 3 this year. I'm not convinced there is a killer app/game for me right now, but I've been wanting to experience it for a while now.

Are you still pretty happy?
