EU4 Dynasty - The Re-Reconquista Begins

Eu4 – The Re-Reconquista of Iberia

Early 711 dawns and with it the change from one era to another in Europe, Africa, Asia, and especially Iberia. The Umayyad general Tariq ibn Ziyad disembarks in Gibraltar in an area later known for him as Jabal Tariq. Tariq’s arrival begins the conquest of Iberia by the Muslim powers and begins a long campaign of push and counter-push over the dominant religious powers in Iberia. Tariq conquers much of Iberia, and in 6 years has established enough of a foothold to invade over the Pyrenees and strike Gaul and take part of southern France as well. It’s ultimately pushed back by Charlemagne, and by 788 the major initial invasion has concluded with Muslim powers now controlling much of Iberia from Lisbon to the Pyrenees and only the small nations of Navarre in the mountains and Asturias remained in the north west to push back.

The Islamic rule of Al-Andalus begins.

This would begin an era of pendulum swinging as first one side would gain momentum and then the other would. There were Muslims helping the Christian nations and Christians helping the Muslim ones.

The initial few hundred years were not seen as Muslim vs Christian with this idea of a holy war write large, and instead merely as a battle between various powers. But then the Crusade era arrives, and a Crusade is called for the “Reconquest” of Iberia which gives the rebellion more of an us vs them mentality for Europe where it previously had none.

It’s not until 1492, after much back and forth, that the nation of Granada is brought under Spanish rule and thus the final Muslim power falls, 781 years later after Tariq arrived at Gibraltar. The aftermath of the 1492 war ended the tolerance in Iberia as all Jews and Muslims remained were forced to convert to Christianity or die by the sword.

But the writing was on the wind for a while, it was not as if Granada’s fall in 1492 was sudden, nor something not foreseeable.

So what would happen if, instead of falling then, Granada was able to foresee the obvious future parabola and then to remove itself from the potential storm by pushing back?

What if Granada had followed the footsteps of Asturias and Leon and instead grew large and strong rough that it was able to take out the rest of Spain?

What if Granada Re-Reconquista’d Iberia?

Abe Sargent 12-15-2018 09:32 PM

I am playing as Granada in 1444 –

My goals:

1. To survive a future war from Spain.
2. To expand in Iberia enough to warrant survival
3. To ally with the nations needed to keep ourselves alive
4. To eventually expand until I have removed every Christian nation from Iberia – Aragon, Castile, Portugal, and Navarra, and then to convert their holdings into the proper faith of Islam.

I do not care if they survive, I just want them out of my peninsula.

Abe Sargent 12-15-2018 09:34 PM

This is the perfect time to pick up Grenada!

Why?

The Golden Century expansion pack was just released with the free 1.28 update. What does that mean?

Here are your changes;

1. The maps - https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...-2018.1122972/

You are getting more provinces in Spain such as the Balearic Isles being split into Ibiza, Majorca and Minorca, as well as the province of Galicia in the NW potion above Portugal now getting four holdings and becoming more realistic for the time. Portugal and Granada also are each getting another province as well. Navarre has moved inland and is no longer a port to better reflect it’s proper place. You also have the Canary islands being split into two parts as well, one of which in Tenerife is uncolonized at the beginnings of 1444.

North Africa, a place that Spain fought in and over, was also a key target for map expansion, and has a few provinces added to places like Morocco, Tunis and Fezzan.

2. The Maps – Colonially

Please note that a lot of additions were made to the Spanish Main, including Cuba and Hispaniola going to 9 provinces each and almost 80 new provinces in the new world across Mexico, Texas, the Caribbean, Colombia, Venezuela, and more.

3. Holy Orders and Colonial Diversity - https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...-2018.1125007/

Spain can now form Holy Orders (Jesuit, Dominican, Franciscan) that are able to grant various bonuses to the location where they are granted.

If Granada recreates Al-Andalus then they have three options for creating Holy Orders as well.

We can now expel local minorities and then send them to colonies.

4. Coastal Barrage – Large fleets can now launch coastal barrages against forts on the water.
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...-2018.1126049/

5. You can build a Flagship for your fleet – These are created using three separate modifications that you choose.

6. The Idea Groups have been rejiggered to make them more balanced. The biggest is probably putting Quest for the New World first before your colonists in the Exploration Idea Group. Which makes flavor sense, and likely slows down early game expansion. Expansion Ideas ae much better as well.

7. New Missions/ideas for Iberia and the Maghreb here - https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...-2018.1126934/ and https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...-2018.1127813/

All of Iberia gets a better slate, as does Grenada, who now has it’s own slate of Missions. This is Grenada’s mission tree. (It’s also the Mission Tree for anyone who forms Al-Andalus)

8. You can play as Pirate Republics –
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...-2018.1129806/

9. Granada can choose the Grand Armada option for naval doctrine, as well as the other Iberian nations.

10. Not that it matters, but Granada have a new set of images for themselves, inc ships, and cavalry.

Abe Sargent 12-15-2018 10:10 PM

Granada –

We follow the Sunni Maliki school of jurisprudence. We can try an invite a scholar of that school to help us but we will need to buddy up with the center of one of those schools.

Granada’s four holdings.

All are Sunni faith and Andalusian culture.

Jabal Tariq – Known as Gibraltar to others, the Mountain of Tariq is Mountains, with a start across the mouth of the Mediterranean to Ceuta (currently held by Portugal) and with 3 development, the fishers here send us 0.14 monthly. Up the coast to it’s east is..

Malaga – Mountains, 7 development, Salt trade, has a level 2 castle to protect Jabal Tariq whom we have turned off to reduce it’s maintenance cost. We get 0.47 from here monthly. Up the coast to it’s east is our capital in…

Garnatah – Mountains, Salt, 14 development, capital, 0.85 monthly, and up it’s coast is…..

Marriya – Mountains, Grain farmers, 6 development, 0.22 cash produced here monthly.

We begin with 6000 troops, 5k infantry and 1k cavalry. We also have 12 ships that include 8 barques which are light ships that protect trade, and 4 transports.

I disband my transports.

I order my diplomats out, and we have allied with Tunis and Morocco.

Abe Sargent 12-15-2018 11:10 PM

Here’s a quickmap:

As you can see, the fire on the left is telling me that we have a disaster soon to hit Granada. Because our Emir is so bad and without an heir, we have a big push against us and the War of Granadan Succession will happen soon,

I have send a diplomat to make nice with the Ottomans one of the schools of my scholars. I also send the other to Morocco.

We enter into a Royal Marriage with Morocco.

I turn over Malaga and Jabal Tariq to my religious Ulema estate, which will now run them. This increases it’s land, reduces the money I’m getting there by 25% each but also opens up one of my missions.

Abe Sargent 12-16-2018 01:15 PM

That is the “Plight of our Kin” mission that our Muslim brethren are fleeing from European persecution to us, and we are building up a infrastructure to bring them to us.

11 Jan, 1445 – We are now married with Tunis as well.

I am now making around 1.1 cash money.

1 June – I now have enough Admin power that I increase our stability to 1.

I turn my Emir into a general and give him our army in Garnatah.

2 Sept – I get an event and choose to import iron from Castile which increases our MIL Power and relations with Castile.

13 Nov – Portugal fabricates a claim against Jabal Tariq from Ceuta

12 Dec – Castile claims it too

22 Feb, 1546 – I get an event and my stability rises if I pay some gold (25). I pay that gold!

I now have enough stability (2) that I can finish my mission, Plights of our Kin. We gain 2 base taxx and 4 base manpower in Garnatah.

I build some more soldiers.

1 Nov – Our mission to get +150 relations and an alliance with Morocco “ Moroccan Ties” is finished. I can get the bonus any time, which is a better land morale for 20 years. I’ll wait until I am at war to do so.

I am at my 9000 troop strong forcelimit.

Abe Sargent 12-16-2018 01:40 PM

1 April , 1547 – The War of Granadan Succession has begun

As a 5/2/3 leader, Yusuf I is much better than my 0/1/1 guy who is really not going to be good at stopping the yellow blob to my north. I want Yusuf to win.

1 Aug – I get an offer from Yusuf I to accept him as my heir. I accept. I gain prestige, stability and cash.

7 Sept – Castile claims our capital

I turn Yusuf into a general and he’s pretty good.

2 Nov – England has entered a big war against France and her allies.

Portugal – allied with England and Castile

Castile – allied with Portugal

I am making nice with Aragon and trying to create wedge between them and castile with us. They are rivals and enemies right now.

5 January, 1448 – Portugal declares war on us for Jabal Tariq.

England is busy in a war of it’s own, and they have not called on Castile yet, but Tunis and Morocco have joined us.

Portugal clearly wants to hit us on its own and grab both sides of the straight. I order my force to Jabal Tariq. I jack up my fort maintenance

22 Feb - We arrive in Cueta after Morocco begins to siege it.

22 Apr – Marriaya falls to Portugal

15 July – A large army arrives in our capital.

13 Sept – Tunis drives them out.

19 Nov – 12k troops from Morocco have arrived in Portugal and are taking on their fleeing forces

12 Dec – Marriya is back under our control after Tunis takes it.

Abe Sargent 12-16-2018 03:12 PM

15 Feb, 1449 – Portugal loses a big battle to Morocco

22 Feb – The Portuguese fleet routs the Moroccan one. We lose a bunch of ships and drop to just 3.

4 April – 4 holdings of Portugal are under Morocco or Tunisian rule.

15 Sept – Portugal retakes Marriya and is moving to our capital

28 Nov – After combining their forces, Portugal breaks off the siege of their capital

5 Jan, 1450 – After a siege of 711 days, e have captured Ceuta from Portugal. I move my force back to hit Marriya

We have a 45% warscore right now.

I thought Portugal was doing this singly to pick us off and take land before Castile could, but maybe they couldn’t ever DOW us.

9 Jan – I take Ceuta and 430 cash to be split among the various allies, and we got around 150 of that cash. We rename it back.

Sebtah – Highlands, 7 development, Sunni, Morocco culture, 75% autonomy, we have a core here, fish, 0.11 ,made here monthly for us, strait to Jabal Tariq. Next to Morocco. My hope is that this ends the Iberian tendency to look at this region for expansion. Level 2 castle that I mothball.

I spend some cash on more ships

My mission of “The Port of Sebtah” is complete it, and I can get a level 1 port in Sebtah as well as +25% local trade power, which I do.

I hire a DIP advisor

Abe Sargent 12-16-2018 04:11 PM

3 May – Our ruler passes at the ripe old age of 54.

We have a pretender rebellion

11 June – We lose to it in Malaga.

1 July – We renew our marriage vows with Tunis

9 July – We do the same with Morocco

12 July – Malaga falls to the pretenders

30 Oct – We have routed the rebels

1 Jan, 1451 – The Renaissance institution has arrived. It began in Brescia

2 June – I claim Cordoba from the filthy Castilians that inhabit it.

22 Dec – We retook Malaga

1 Mar, 1452 – I hire a Natural scientist advisor that pumps up my ADM investment

18 June – I set up a Diplomatic Amir El-Hajj to help create a strong route from Granadan to Mecca

22 July – Malaga claimed by Castile

8 Oct – Our pilgrims made it safely and we score a lot of diplomatic monarch power

Abe Sargent 12-16-2018 08:38 PM

2 March, 1453 – Dip Tech 4 – We gain better trade range and can now build marketplaces. I order one in our capital

1 April – A level 2 judge is found in Malaga and he’s 50% the normal cost for employing him. I hire him. Judge’s help the Admin side of things.

2 May – I now have a claim on Sevilla

1 Sept – Level 4 Mil Tech – better mil tactics and infantry fighting value

1 Nov – After building it up, our fleet is now the size of Portugal’s so we finish our mission. Our ships are now a lot better at protecting trade and winning battles.

22 Nov – France defeated England in the War of the Roses.

1 Feb, 1454 – ADM Tech 4 – I can build Mosques. I do so for Malaga, and will also do one for my capital after the marketplace is concluded.

17 July – We enter into a Royal Marriage with the Turks.

22 July – They offer us an alliance. Hmmmm…. Do I want to? I do.

1 Aug - I claim Cadiz

1 Sept – I invite a scholar from the Ottomans to help us, and he will give us a boost to Admin Tech investment.

Abe Sargent 12-16-2018 09:28 PM

1 May, 1455 – We have finished our mission to rebuild the Qalat al-Hamra. This was done with the Mosque in Garnatah with it having at least a 20 development. We get, permanently, a -2% local unrest there and +50% institution spread (like the Renaissance), as is has the “Jewel of the West” descriptor.

22 June - We celebrate the Eid Al-fatir

11 Aug – In order to drive a dagger into Morocco, Castile surrported the independence of Sus, one of Morocco’s vassals, and herself. She declared independence today.

We join

Battlelines:

Morocco, Granada, Tlemcen

Vs

Sus, Castile

I order some mercs assembled to help out

21 Aug – My navy is halved by losing to Castile.

8 Sept – I arrive and their army is fleeing mine as I have a much better general

21Oct – Cadiz falls to my mercs

30 Oct – Aragon sends me a large amount of war subsidies

22 Nov – I win a huge battle in our captial against their invading force

8 Dec – Sevilla falls to my mercs

4 Jan, 1456 – We win a skirmish in Murcia

16 Jan – Cordoba falls.

I am going to combine my mercs and main army in Toledo and besiege their capital

22 Jan – La Mancha is ours

8 Feb – We besiege Toledo

2 Mar – We have a new heir who is 2/5/3

5 Apr – The combined Castilian army cannot drive us from Toledo

Our ruler is a very good general

11 Apr - Morocco has captured all of Sus.

22 Feb, 1457 – Shifting tactics, Castille combines their forces and arrives in Malaga to besiege us.

3 June -They retake Sevilla

31 July – After 540 days, Toledo falls!

1 Aug – I enact a government reform to curtail noble privileges

4 Sept – We win a big battle in Cordoba as their army moved off Malaga as they saw us move south.

We have a 78% warscore

We were aided by 15k Tlemcen troops as well as Morocco’s main forces after they brought in Sus, we we have around 10k more than Castile has.

Abe Sargent 12-16-2018 10:39 PM

1 March, 1458 – Morocco heads to peace.

Because us and Castile are junior partners, we can’t force what Morocco gives.

This is what Morocco takes:

2 holdings from Sus.
Sus remains vassal
The Canaries from Castile which they captured

Cold hard cash

They give us Cordoba and Cadiz. There was enough warscore for Sevilla as well, or others, but they instead took two Sus holdings instead for themselves. Still, I like seeing the Canaries and Cordoba/Cadiz in our hands.

This is a great time for a map of the area.

I disband my mercs

MAP

Here you can see Morocco and our expansions in the various areas.

I really do see Tunis, Morocco and us as, potentially, a triangle alliance of growing Muslim powers. We have gained three holdings, Morocco three as well as annexed their vassal Marrakech, and Tunis has expanded as well.

Now, why did we win this war? Everything Castile did was by the book. Supporting a four province Sus in the south, near the Canarias? That makes sense. And when Sus goes independent, it’s just a five province Granada, Tlemcen, and Morocco that’s holding you. Why were you unable to win? Why were you unable to throw your weight around? What happened?

Two things. Math, and positioning.

Let’s do math. Here is our main army – 10k – 7k infantry, 3k cavalry. I purchased 5k mercs inntially and then another 5k with Aragonese funding That gave me another 10k.

Just 20k

Castile had two armies of 20 and 20k each. Our general was the….5th best general or admiral we know of according to our ledger, and spain avoiding a head on confrontation early with two 20k armies as they didn’t match up. We got the 15k Tlemcen forces that quickly arrived and joined my combined 20k force to bring us to 35k and then Morocco committed it’s full force as soon as the south fell, and that was just one siege and the rest quick un-forted land. We had numbers.

We had positing.

Our allies could cross the strait despite naval dominance from Castile because I controlled both sides. I had forts in Sebtah in the south and in Malaga in the north that protects Jabal Tariq. You couldn’t cross without loading and landing a navy while we could cross. Positioning helped as well! Without Sebtah, they couldn’t have crossed through enemy territory with Portugal. Sebtah, in Africa, opened up everything else.

Alright, next?

Remember that we will be using the Arabic name for this holding now that they have been returned to Allah’s hand.

Qadis – Drylands, Natural Harbor, Naval Supplies, Andalusian holding, 12 development, Catholic, core ordered here, and 75% autonomy with 31 unrest. 0.09 cash monthly made.

Qurtuba – Wool, Drylands, 10 development, Andalusian, Catholic, 0.07 made here.

I fabricate claims on Jaen and Murcia.

I name Castile as our rival.

Castile minus these three minor areas is not going to be a major loss. But if I can get Sevilla in a future war, then things will change and they will be hurt.

I order more soldiers.

re: the new Pirates thing-y ... your thoughts about that as a challenge?

Granted, my EU knowledge is extremely limited but reading through the description I thought it sounded like it might become almost too easy for an experienced player, a system that's pretty much designed to f. with people.

Your thought(s)?

Abe Sargent 12-17-2018 07:12 AM

10 Jan, 1459 – The rebellion in Morocco is ended.

1 April – I just got an event, and here let me show you some of Islam here in EU4.

This is Islam. There is a content push towards piety and mysticism on one side and unpiety and legalism on the other, and you can push for one or the other with various benefits thereof. There are events and options that you can take. I’ve gone ahead and showed you the legalism bonus as we were moving towards it. Legalism is my preference for the tech reductions.

Now the Dargah event. I choose not visit and I get Admin tech costs -10% for 25 years and better annual legitimacy growth.

1 Dec – Mi Tech 5 – I can get a better infantry and they are a lot better in battle. I upgrade my army.

5 March, 1460 – Our cores in our two new holdings have finished.

1 Nov – I can get both ADMIN and Dip techs, but I want to wait until the 10% institutional tax is gone as I suspect I am about to embrace

1 April, 1461 – I embrace the Renaissance!

I get the new techs:

Admin 5 – We can get a new idea group

Dip 5 – Trade range 20, better trade efficiency

What ideas do I want?

I need to take Iberia. I need to punch above my weight class:

I choose Quality Military Ideas

Good question!

In multiplayer it may have a bit of a griefer role, sure. But I'm not sure that it's powers have enough to push you over the AI nations that are bigger.

1 June – Workshop in Qadis and Qurtuba

1 April - 1469 – I hire a military adviser who increases our forcelimit. I order some more troops assembled.

5 August

I have enough value saved up in my Age of Discovery that I can get my first ability that lasts until the era does. I take Justified Wars which will decrease how bad it looks when we expand militarily.

4 Dec – I have maximized relations with England

Abe Sargent 12-18-2018 12:35 AM

22 Jan, 1470 – Our truce with Castile ends, and I order my folks assembled. We have defeated Portugal solo. We have defeated Castile (essentially) solo. What about both?

Morocco
Tunis

11 June – I can see the Castilian and Portuguese force have followed suit and are moving to Madrid, next to Toledo. I order my mercs to Toledo, where we are besieging their army

19 July – I chased around some of their troops after splitting off my main army from Toledo and leaving behind 10k to siege

I force them to send us War Reparations, Humiliation, give up claims with us and Sebtah, and then some cash

Abe Sargent 12-18-2018 06:53 AM

And now Castile.

I take: La Mancha, Jaen, and Sevilla

Now I could take their capital, Toledo, or something that connects us and Aragon with Murcia or Albacente.

Instead I head east to Badajoz

Here you go!

Because I hit Castile during their big civil war, I was able to hit them while distracted.

I also really hurt Castile fiscally with this land grab.

I fabricate claims on Evora and Beja

Our four new holdings. All of these are Catholic and with their proper name restored:

Isbiliya – Sevilla, drylands, Andalusian, centre of trade, marketplace and Mosque here, Wine, 16 dev, 0.46 made here.

Batalyaws - To it’s north is Batalyaws, Grasslands, Castilian culture, 8 development, Livestock, 0.06 made here monthly

Jayyan – Drylands, Andalusian, 9 dev, 0.18 made, and this internally connects multiple places we control.

Al-Mansha – 7 dev, drylands, south of their capital in Toledo, Castilian culture, features gold mines. We get 0.19 here.

Denying them the trade depot of Sevilla and the mines of Al-Mansha is a big financial hit, and once we have developed these, we will be richened by their addition to us.

Abe Sargent 12-18-2018 07:42 AM

1 July – Qual Idea #3 – We get +10% cavalry combat ability.

We unlock to the first Granadan Idea – People of the Book and we get +3 for tolerance of heathens.

1.5 institution sale to Morocco

Costs:

4.61 Advisors
0.58 State Maintenance
5.44 Army
1.35 fleet
1.00 fort maintenance

Capturing the trade node increased my trade income from it a lot. I am now the strongest trader from it

11 April, 1473 – After cutting my mercs off I turned to making some of my own and I now have 17 troops which is my landlimit.. I could make more, but it would cost a ton and would have spiraling costs.

1 Aug – 13k rebels leap up in Al-Mansha where my 17k army is…

And they are defeated 9 days later

1 Nov – The knowledge sharing with Morocco ends as they embrace the Renaissance

11 Nov – Tunis is now knowledge sharing with us instant

19 Nov – Jayyan and Isbiliya are now cores.

Abe Sargent 12-18-2018 08:34 PM

Abe Sargent 12-18-2018 10:04 PM

11 June, 1476 – My navy is fully updated and I send it out to help protect trade.

1 Aug – I get an event that increases my ADM power by 100.

1 Oct – Our Admin power increases to 7 which gives us another Group of Ideas…

HM….

Options

1. Exploration – Invest in the first level, sent out an Explorer immediately. I can colonize Tenerife next to Morocco already and when get my stuff.

Now this makes sense. Iberia was the best for colonizing due to it’s location. Both of it’s nations, due to the advantages they had due to their location, are strong. We’ll I have the trade node of Sevilla, so it would make sense that after I captured it, to begin to explore. On the other hand, I don’t want this to become my Athens dynasty where I was constantly colonizing everywhere. I do see Granada out there exploring, but not necessarily yet.

2. Trade – Invest in the first idea to get +20% global trade power, and by the time I have finished, we’ll have two more merchants and tons more trade value.

Again, this makes sense given that we just brought a trade node into our dominion. We want to push it’s value

3. Economic – This is an Admin idea group and fights against my ADM tech development, but this will grow my taxes, build costs, and more.

Again, it’s a solid idea.

4. Admin – This loves mercs. Another Admin idea group though.

Right now I’m feeling Dip groups.

Maritime? Dip? Influence? Espionage? There are a number of solid Diplomatic Idea Groups to push.

I choose Exploration. Not because want to Athens, but because I need to know when Castile/Portugal and such are to take them out.

I grab idea #1 Quest for the New World, fire my current Admiral, and then hire an Explorer.

11 Nov, 1494 –

50 Year Review!!!

Here’s a fun zoomed out map of everything for you

As you can see, we are now in the White. We have the Andalusian flag and symbol. We are doing well, financially, colonially, and more. We have two colonies already to our name and a third almost done, in addition to taking three holdings from Portugal and a ton from Castile, who is now a virtual rump state after getting chomped on by Aragon and us.

We joined with Tunis and Morocco long ago and all three have grown, and you can see both Tunisian and Moroccan growth there.

We have 27k troops with 2k artillery, 14k infantry and 11k cavalry

We have 19 ships including 6 transports and 4 heavy ships.

Ledger Time

According to our info:

We are 21st in cash made (of nations we know about)

27th in total development

Are tied with 11 other nations for the most techs – including Naples and Navarra, Aragon, Provence and France.

We have the 2nd most ideas after Bremen.

Sunni has the most provinces with 520, Catholic is next at 474.

My Top Ten Provinces by Tax Revenue:

1. Garnatah, 22.50
2. Isbiliya, 13.50
3. Malaga, 11.75
4. Qadis, 11.25
5. Qurtuba, 1.25
6. Barbados, 9.25
7. Mursiya, 7.25
8. Jayyan, 6.75
9. Cape Verde, 6.75

7. Qadis, 3.54
8. Qurtuba, 3.54
9. Batalyaws, 2.73
10. Malaga, 2.55

Very different values, but you can see some of the same names at the top of the lists.

Garnatah is the 11th most developed province we know of, and the 2nd most developed in Europe.

We have 19 provinces, which is fewer than castile, half as much as Aragon, but a little more than Portugal

We have the 7th best general.

Our army has the highest morale.

We have the 9th biggest army in the world and are just 1k behind Aragon at 8.

We have the best naval morale in the world

We only have the 32nd biggest navy

We’ve lost the 12th most people in the world at over 100,000 troops in our wars have died!

With my colonial and missionary upkeep I am making just around 1 cash monthly, so we’ve sort of stagnated.

Abe Sargent 12-27-2018 10:02 PM

1 Jan, 1495 – Portugal is colonizing Hispaniola

I do want to do something to ease back Portugal as I don’t want a fully expanded Portugal still in Iberia as it would be hard to tell them to knock it off. I want to emphasize Portugal next in my expansions. I’ve hurt the biggest nation, now it’s Portugal time.

1 April – Qual 7 – We get +10% artillery ability in battle.

I finish the Qual line and we get +5% discipline for my forces

1 Jan, 1496 – Native uprising in St. Vincent

15 Jan – Finished

We get Andalusian Idea #4 -10% Idea cost.

Abe Sargent 12-27-2018 10:56 PM

24 March, 1498 – Baja converts.

Next? Isbiliya

3 July – We get a Haji pilgrimage raided and lose 80 cash.

1 Mar, 1499 – MIL TECH 8 – I get a better Camp and can get better infantry.

1 Jan, 1500 – Colonialism institution has arrived, and it began in Portugal so it’s nearby.

Admin Tech 9 – The Scythe - +2% production efficiency

Aragon is currently deep in a war with France and Savoy. They are distracted. But our Truce with

16 Feb – Exploration 6 – We get -25% minority expel rate.

I could declare war on Aragon as it’s a perfect moment, but I need to hit Portugal hard. Hard. Hard.

23 June - I can enact a new governmental reform, and the question is, from where do I want to recruit my administration. My options are clergy, nobility, or meritocratically. I choose clergy which gives me a bonus +1 admin reform, and they’ll like me more moving forward

6 Aug – Aragon sends us an insult

1 Sept – Sugar in St. Lucia

1 Oct – Current Iberian Alliances:

Portugal + France

Castile + Provence

Aragon + Naples, Savoy, Florence

Current wars of note:

France and Genoa vs Turks and Tunis

Aragon, Savoy, Florence vs Genoa, Ferrara

I can take out Castile/Provence and it’s remnants with just myself and Morocco.

But Portugal? I need to ensure that France won’t be a problem.

Let’s me see what I can do.

1 Dec – Aragon took Genoa in peace

Abe Sargent 12-28-2018 03:16 AM

15 March, 1501 – Isbiliya converts

Next? Mursiya, our final Catholic holding

I have finished a mission and I take it –

Restore Qurtuba – this requires me to have captured and converted all of the 5 provinces of Lower Andalusia, Qurtuba, Jayyan, Isbiliya, etc. This gives Qurtuba a Restored benefit of +1 tolerance of heretics and bonus monthly prestige.

I finish a mission, which I’ve been sitting on waiting for the next war with Iberia as it’ll help.

Restore Al-Andalus – I get -25% warscore cost against other nations for 20 years if they are of another religion, and I gain a bunch of claims on Iberian holdings.

1 April – My navigator advisor passes and I hire a diplomat who will increase our diplomatic reputation

22 May - I want to bring Tlemcen into my oeuvre. It only has five provinces left after being eaten by Tunis and Morocco. I offer it a Royal Marriage.

23 June – We enter into an alliance with Tlemcen

1 Aug – I proclaim a guarantee on Tlemcen

My goal is to hurt Portugal for my upcoming war. I could split my time with smaller wars, but nope. I need to take Perifungal out. It’s invested deeply in both Expansion and exploration. It has multiple colonists each with more than 100 annual growth and almost a 40% chance monthly that it’ll grow. I have to hit it now. If it gets to bee too big, then grabbing a few lesser local continental iberian places ain’t going to be anything.

In fact, Portugal is actually better off now that when we started and took three of its holdings! I grabbed Sebtah, Baja and Shilb from it, with a combined development of 23 and three low level trade goods. Since then? It’s colonized Tenerife (5), Bani (9), St. Martin (10) and has two more on the way in the Caribbean. So it’s got better trade goods and development already.

If I don’t hit Portugal, hard, right now, then we are going to find it very hard to take it out later. It’s powerful commitment to colonialism means that it will have enough money to be virtually unassailable on the continent. I have to punch it hard right now.

Here my upcoming goal:

1. Raze (or capture) Portuguese colonies on Hispaniola
2. Capture former colonies abroad that I can try to take or add to my warscore
3. Give Tenerife to Morocco in peace
4. Take all major ocean holdings that make sense (such as Madeira, the Azores, St. Martin and Bani).
5. Try to take out Lisboa and more mainland Portuguese holdings to smash it so hard it cannot recover.

If I can hurt it’s naval bases enough to dial back it’s colonial leapfrogging, then I hope to dial it back to the pint that I can end it.

Here is what I have ready:

Caribbean – 3 Heavy Ships, 6 transports, 2 units each of infantry, cavalry, and artillery ready o hit the Caribbean.

Us – I have my main army of 25k with my general in Baja, ready to move next door to Lisboa and siege.

I have a merc army of all infantry ready to hit Evora, next to us, to siege and take that fort. As Evora and Lisboa are adjacent, I should b able to support each other.

Now my scouting only shows around 15k troops here on the mainland, so my goal is to make them beatable with my domestic army, and then to get victories by capturing naval assets as well.

I also killed the natives in St. Lucia so I can leave without worrying about getting smashed by them when away.

Ready?

Abe Sargent 12-28-2018 04:49 AM

1 Sept – Our truce is over with Portugal and Castile.

18 Sept – My boat of 6k is off the coast of St. Martin. My main navy is in the Gulf of Cadiz to blockage Lisboa.

Ready

I declare war with Portugal for Lisboa, and Morocco, Tunis, and Tlemcen join me

England, despite being deep into an internal conflict, does join Portugal. I’m not sure how much help they’ll be though.

I order my forces in

29 Sept – The siege for Lisboa has begun

1 Oct – Evora too

26 Oct – Because we attacked it before the defenses could be raised, Evora fell to us quickly

22 Nov – St. Martin is ours. I order my fleet and army west to Hispaniola

12 Jan, 1502 – With almost 65k troops assaulting Lisboa, it’s siege is progressing very nicely.

1 Mar – We take Bani

26 Mar – Lisboa is ours!

5 April _ I defeat and capture two ships from the Portuguese navy that fled the capture of Lisboa into my waiting navy.

9 April – We capture Maguana on Hispaniola

8 May – Two minors fall to me

11 May – I capture and seize Ciguayo, but I forgot to do that to Maguana so I order my troops back. I want to take it for me permanently.

22 May – We win a big battle in Porto and rout Portugal.

9 June - I seize Maguana

I order my forces to load and I want to send them to the Azores

21 June – Porto falls

10 July – Every mainland Portuguese holding is ours

22 July – I defeat a small English navy that was exploring on the ocean with my own exploratory one

25 July – England lands a minor army in Portugal of 15k

19 Aug – My army defeats England.

22 Aug – I disband my merc army as it served it’s function.

17 Oct – I lose a big ship but beat the remaining Portuguese navy.

26 Oct – I take Madeira

I offer a white peace to England, and we have a +8 warscore with them, so they take it.

9 Dec – The Azores are ours

Abe Sargent 12-28-2018 09:46 AM

1 Feb, 1503 – We take in peace:

Tenerife for Morocco

Azores, Madeira, St. Martin, and Bani (On Hispaniola) for me

And then… Lisboa, Coimbra, Aviero, and Porto. This will leave Portugal with just three, internal provinces, and no ports!

This is obvious going past my normal gains and makes me a seriously loathed badboy.

But it’s worth it!

Here’s your map!

No longer PORTugal, just Ugal.

We have basically removed Portugal as a threat from the board and years later, I can finish it off at my leisure. Now I went past my normalbadboy and Aragon, Castile, France, Provence and others are all pissed at me. But it was worth removing Portugal as a threat.

Right now, with two more colonies to upkeep, we are at -3.4 cash monthly, but two are very developed and that will ease back on my treasury dependence for now.

Let’s take a deep, deep deep dive

Let’s begin at the Ocean:

All of these are Catholic faith and Portuguese culture unless otherwise stated. I wiped all of my ADM to help make cores for my many additions as well.

Madeira – Sugar is grown here, coastline island, port, 8 dev, 0.11 made here monthly

The Azores – 7 Dev, Fishing, coastline, 0.08 made here

St. Martin – Cotton, 10 dev, 0.14 made here, coastline

Hispaniola -

Bani – Jungle, Harbor, Fishing, on Hispaniola next to my other local fun folks. 9 devm 0.11 made here.

Colonies:

Maguana – West of Bani, hills, Coffee,

Ciguayo – Grasslands north of Bani and Maguana

Mainland (IN new name)

Lixbuna – 22 dev, coastal, fort, Natural Harbor, Tagus Estuary, grasslands, 0.58 made here monthly

Qulumriya – North of Lixbuna on the shore, Woods, Grain, 14 dev, 0.14 made monthly

Aveiro – north of Qulumriya on the shore, grasslands, 10 dev, 0.12 made here, fishers

Burtuqal – The former Porto, Wine, grasslands, 19 dev, natural harbor, Dauro Estuary, 0.22 made here monthly

And there you have it! We took four mainland and 5 ocean provinces, one of which went to Morocco.

Nice!

Abe Sargent 12-28-2018 11:19 AM

Aragon is now our major threat. They are powerful and strong and growing. I have to hit Aragon next, but they are my growing threat in a linear way whereas Portugal would have been geometric. I can’t hit them now due to too much badboy and such, but I do want to smash them once these holdings are under our control and my army rises.

Unless Aragon stupidly thinks they can take me out and attacks me first, but I suspect to come back with a big Aragonese / Andalusian War in about ten+ years when I’ve gotten closer to the end of my warscore bonus versus Sunnis.

1 Nov – Exploration 7 – We get +25% Naval Force limit!

For finishing this, we can get fabricate claims overseas.

I exact the Superior Supply Systems policy that requires me finishing Quality and Exploration Ideas. The benefit? -25% land attrition and +10% manpower recovery speed.

4 Nov – I de-rival Castile and then proclaim a guarantee on them. Aragon has used our wars to make themselves bigger, and with Castile currently in a minor war, I suspect they might look askance at Castile, so I declare a guarantee on them so that Aragon, if they decide to push against them, will have us to deal with

6 June, 1504 – I have four cores on the mainland.

1 Sept – All of our other provinces are now core-d.

13 Sept – I send a Missionary to Qulumriya

15 Sept – Aragon declares war on Castile, and I Declare war back on them for Valencia. All of our allies join us Turks, Tlemcen, Morocco, and Tunis

Abe Sargent 12-28-2018 12:51 PM

I raise War Taxes

29 Sept – I defeat the Aragonese army of 29k with my main army on the border

8 Oct – We embrace Colonialism.

11 Oct – We take Alcante

17 Oct – We take Xativa

31 March – Valencia falls to us

22 May – 3 more minors fell to me

1 July – Mil tech 8 – my tactics are better, and after the war, I will get better infantry

19 Sept – The Fort of Burgos falls to my siege

1 Oct – St. Lucia is now a full province, and we now have a Colonial Nation we name Garnatah Isles

I send these colonists to Ciguayo to help speed them up and to reduce the cost of the colonists.

5 Jan, 1506 – We capture the Fort of Huesca

22 Mar – Every province of Naples, under the command of Aragon, has been captured by the Turks.

We now have a big warscore with Aragon. We have about 80% of their land, all of their Junior Partner in crime Naples, and more.

8 May – We win the siege of Roussillon

10 July – I rout the Aragonese army.

Our warscore is enough to end this.

I could take a lot more. But to overextend is not something I want to do overly much.

Here’s what we are doing. And this will end the war with Castile as well.

1. Aragon ends it’s relationship as the Senior Partner with Naples
2. I take the four provinces of Valencia
3. I get War Reparations and dole out some cash

Captured – All of these are Catholic, Coastal, and Catalan culture

Medina Laqant – Mosque, Shipyard, Farm Estate, grasslands, 11 Dev, 0.22 cash monthly – This was Alicante on the map and in the corner. Winer makers

Xativa – North of ML, paper makers, drylands, Mosque, 10 dev, 0.14 made here

Balansiyah – Valencia, the old home of the old nation before it was taken centuries ago. 21 dev, natural harbor, castle, the former capital of Aragon, Cloth makers, shipyard, Mosque, and marketplace, makes 0.36 monthly.

Castello – North of Balansiyah, Grasslands, Wine makers, Mosque, 10 dev, 0.12 made here.

12 August – We have become one of the world’s great powers!

Abe Sargent 12-28-2018 02:48 PM

1 Sept – We now have the effect, “Trading in Sugar”

24 Oct – I name Austria my new Rival

22 Dec – I embrace Shamshir Infantry

1 Jan, 1506 – We’ve had around 11 nations thus far want to join a coalition to smash us for being “bad”

1 Mar – Dip Tech 9 – I can now build better ships for Carracks and Caravels

17 Mar - Qulumriya converts

22 April – I get an event that gives me DIP power and bonus production in Balansiyah

1 Sept –

Maguana – Tobacco, on Hispaniola, Catholic, Portuguese, Hills, 8 dev, handed to my colonial nation, we are getting 0.23

5 Sept – The coalition declares war on us It’s mostly a bunch of smaller nations and bigger ones further away.

Battle Lines:

France
Florence
Brittany
Austria
Hungary
Munster
Lorraine
Switzerland
Milan
Mantua
Alsace
Venice
Baden
Holland
The Palatinate

Vs

Andalusia
Tlemcen
The Isles
Morocco
The Turks
Tunis

Save for France, it’s no one nearby of size. France is in a war with others already.

This is my first “Slap Abe on the Wrist” war for expanding too quickly since EU2.

So let’s see how it goes!

I currently have 20k under a two-star general in Balansiyah and 16k under a 2 star general in Al-Mansha.

Let’s get this started!

I just upgraded my army too.

This is a punitive war led by Florence

My war goal is to show superiority – win battles etc

Abe Sargent 12-28-2018 04:18 PM

15 Nov – My Valencian holdings are now finished coring.

I finish my mission to retake Balansiyah, and I get bonus unrest reduction and Missionary strength in the region for a few decades

I am currently making around 1.7 cash monthly from two Missionaries and 1 colony.

5 Dec – Milan has landed 15k in Malaga and has begun a siege there.

22 Dec – My combined force takes out and defeat a single French army. Bloody, but victorious

23 Jan, 1508 - I remove the Milan threat

17 Feb – Again bloody, but my combined army defeats the entire Venetian one

I order a few mercs to supplement my forces

They have been assaulting near Balansiyah

15 April – After the Turks won a big naval battle in the East Med our warscore is not +14 us.

1 May – Castile announces Tlemcen as a rival

I chase their forces and in Navarre I defeat Venice again. Soundly

20 Aug – I win a big battle against France after combined armies lose around 5k troops

22 Aug – More battles won by my allies and the warscore is +39 us

We force a White Peace for nothing

Now this was my first, “You’ve been a naughty badboy and we’ve come for your spanking” conflict since EU2. After the war, nothing changed. They are still seeking to join a coalition to take me down. But, for now, we’ll be fine.

I disband my mercs.

Here want to see?

Here we are, after we won our battle and just defended my reputation. I am moving my two armies back to Balansiyah to defend my people against potential rebels.

1 Sept – I send Missionaries to Madeira and Xativa

1 Feb, 1513 - Admin Tech 10 – Idea Group #3.

Now I have enough DIP saved up for two Ideas. I could get Trade or I could do a MIL tech and get one, and then I could save my Dip for a tech upgrade in a few moths

I choose Offensive Ideas – and unlock Idea 1 - +1 land leader shock

We get:

Andalusian Idea #5 is Jund Settlements with -15% core costs and +15% manpower

Then I annex Portugal

Abe Sargent 12-30-2018 12:20 AM

Map for you

Here you can see the removal of Portugal from the world as well as our own inexorable climb north and east.

All of these are Portuguese, Catholic, internal and Wine making

Evora
– Level 1 fort, connects El-Belat, Batalyaws, Lixbuna, and more. Grasslands, 10 dev, 0.25 made here for us monthly.

Al-Adna – Highlands, 14 dev, 0.44 made here for us

Braganga – Hills, 13 dev, 0.33cash

All of these are Castillean, and have different stuff

El-Belat – Grasslands, 6 dev, Glass Making here, this is east of Evora.

Tulaytullah – Iron mines, 11 dev, former capital of Castile, grasslands, level 2 fort, Mosque, has an inland center of trade (called an Emporium) here, 0.63 made here

Qunka – 11 dev, Cloth making, south of Madrid and west of Aragon, 0.33 made here.

Avila – North of my stuff, just Livestock and 7 dev, and 0.11 made here

I suspect we might get another badboy war so I move my forces to the border, and then order some more.

Right now my armies have 11k inf, 6k cav, and 4k art. I am going to bring that number to 25k each from 21k each.

I destroy the castle in Evora, as it is between two castles of mine and protects nothing.

Abe Sargent 12-30-2018 12:48 AM

13 June – Morocco declares us their new rival and then breaks their alliance with us.

I do the same and declare them my rival.

1 Oct – I bring in the Hanafi scholar from the Turks again

1 Nov – By now around 8 or 10 nations have joined a coalition against us

7 Nov – I proclaim another guarantee for Castile as I know that Aragon is looking for war as they have moved their army to the border. Castile is my meal, not yours!

18 Nov – Austria declares a punitive war on us:

Them –

Austria
France
Hungary
Switzerland
The Palatinate
Milan
Trier
Baden
Savoy
Venice
Mantua
Gelre

The mains are Austria, Hungary, France, and Venice

We have all of our allies (with Morocco now gone) – The Isles, Tlemcen, Tunis and the Turks

They are going to try and drive us from our own lands, which they stole from us once before. We will now hold them again, no matter the cost.

I have my navies camped in my harbors, away from multiple potential fleets. As a reminder, these punitive wars are driven by the victors.

5 Dec – The Ottomans fleet defeated the Austrians

16 Feb, 1520 – My combined armies defeat a French army of 30k.

2 Mar – Our truce with Aragon ends

25 April – Baja is now Andalusian

11 June – I begin a siege of France’s Labourd

3 Mar – We defeat a much bigger Aragonese army that was assaulting our final siege in Roussillon. It had a weak general to our really good one and a Mountain-crossing penalty as well.

19 Mar – Roussillon is ours. Every Iberian Aragon holding is mine. We have a decent warscore, but not that big on Italy or the isles in the Med either, so I can’t take too much.

Time to go shopping!

I only get three holdings

We get Soria, Zaragoza, and Teruel.

I order a Farm Estate for Braganca

Madinat Salim
– 5 dev, Highlands, 0.13 made here monthly. Wool growers.

20 Nov –

I’ve been waiting for it for a while, and it finally happened

The Protestant Reformation begins. This will bring about the end of the Age of Discovery. It will end in 10 years. Any benefits we got from various things are lost there.

Abe Sargent 12-30-2018 07:44 PM

Here, let me show you something fun!

This is the historical border of the Cordoba Emirate in 1000 AD

Now I am unsure if you noticed this or not. But here is our areas controlled in 1000 AD. This is hundreds of years from the invasion’s strongest point.

For example, here is Iberia around 800 AD

And this is 800 AD, 200 years prior, and as you can see, it’s roughly the same.

Of course, it’s not where the invasion was initially.

This is 756, which demonstrates that pretty much all of Iberia, and parts of France, were brought into Al-Andalus.

Here we are!

This is us currently. As you can see, I have a roughly similar map to the Iberian Al-Andalus holding back in 1000. It comes full circle.

We have eliminated Portugal. Next I want to end Castile. Like Portugal, I don’t want Castile jumping out on colonies and creating an economic way to dial themselves back in.

They still have 11 Iberian holdings. That will likely be two wars as we lost our super-fast jump across time.

I am going to begin to push my spy network and claim some fun claims vs Castile.

As a reminder, we are currently deep into the badboy of life. So I want to give folks some time to no longer hate me

Abe Sargent 12-30-2018 08:50 PM

16 Oct – I get an insult from Castile

1 Nov – Aragon declares war against Mantua. They seek to expand into Italy as we push against them Iberia.

1 Jan, 1526 – We are no longer rivals with Morocco as they drop us as a rival ad pick up Castile.

1 Feb – Admin Tech 11 – We can build Textile Manufactories in places with Wool, Cloth, Dyes or Silk.

I order one in Qunka, with cloth as it’s primary trade good.

As a reminder, all manufactories cost around 500 gold, take 5 years to build, and double your production and trade from the good in the province.

Right now I am making around 26 gold monthly in profit, so I can build a new manufactory, roughly, every two years or so.

7 Feb – I also start building up my spies in Aragon to claim provinces from it as well

12 July – I gain a ton of Admin power from my Quest for the Seven Cities as we find an unexplored pyramid we tap for learning (as opposed to cash)

1 Aug – Revolt in Castello

30 Aug – Defeated!

1 Nov – Tirwal converts – next is al-Adna

1 Jan, 1527 – Cocoa in Pernambuco!

1 Feb –

Paraiba – Sugar, top of Brazil, Drylands, 12 Dev, Sunni, Andalusian, next to colony in Pernambuco, after making this a state we get 0.70 here. I send these colonists south to Rio de Janeiro.

6 Mar – Another conversation is successful and Braganca is my final one.

14 April – We have a colony company that has set up a colony in Alagoas, south of Pernambuco, and with 200 to start.

22 May – We began a search for The Fountain of Youth.

2 July – Our ruler gains the Industrious trait

Abe Sargent 12-31-2018 02:14 AM

1 Feb, 1528 – I fabricate a claim on Orense in Castile

11 Mar – I order a Textile Manufactory in Tirwal

17 June – Al-adna converts!

1 Sept – Rebellion in Tirwal

1 Oct – Braganca converts. Everything is now Sunni!

2 Oct – They capture Tirwal

11 Oct – We agree to knowledge share with the Ottomans and they will pay us to help elevate their institutional knowledge

29 Oct – We defeat the rebels.

1 Nov – I claim Barcelona from Aragon

30 Nov – We retake Tirwal

1 Dec – Off Idea – Engineer Corps – we get +20% siege ability

My DIP power has been maxed so I am investing in raising my development in various cities. This is because the power I need to get to the next level exceeds my max storage.

22 Jan, 1529 get an event and we’ll get +10% tariffs from Sugar from the Garnatah Isles colonial nations.

1 Apr – We can enact a new government reform.

Who do I want in my deliberative assembly? I choose my general estates which will increase my prod by 10%.

1 May – With the knowledge sharing, Sunni areas giving us more cash and such, and a few manufactories built, plus this bump, as well as the 6+ cash monthly from the Ottomans, I am now making an incredible +43 monthly

I order a Farm Estate in Evora for it’s Wine.

1 July – Alagoas is with Coffee

1 Aug – Our explorer passes when my fleet is in the Pacific, so I hope it can survive heading home

Abe Sargent 12-31-2018 03:11 AM

1 April, 1530 – We sent out our explorer from Rio after it returned safely and I hire a new explorer.

1 May - I order a Naval Manufactory in Qadis for it’s Naval Supplies

10 June – I order 10k troops in Braganca

1 July – Tropical Wood in Rio. Sad. Missed opportunity for some good stuff there.

22 Aug – Our truce with Aragon lifts.

21 Nov – Sebtah is now Andalusian!

I order a culture change in Burtuqal (Porto) and Beiras.

1 Jan, 1531 –

Pernambuco – 14 dev, Cocoa, Drylands, natural harbor, corner of Brazil, Sunni and Andalusian makes us 1.11 monthly.

My next colonial target is Sergipe, south of Alagoas

1 Feb – I claim Ponteverde from Castile

12 Feb – Aragon declares war on Castile.

1 Mar – I can see France colonizing in Colombia, as well as English in North America.

1 May – I order a Textile Manufactory in Qurtuba

8 July – We find a route to Cibola, one of the seven cities of gold and begin to pursue it!

1 Aug – I order many more troops in Braganca.

1 Dec – Off Idea - +20% Land Force Limit.

My new land limit is 95 regiments!

Abe Sargent 12-31-2018 04:45 AM

5 March, 1532 – We get a native assimilation event in Sergipe.

1 April – Sergipe is now with Coffee

1 July – Naval Manufactory for Shilb’s fish.

France announces me as it’s new rival. I do the same.

2 Sept – I grant a New World Charter to a colonial company, and my settler growth increases for about ten years

My goal is to build another 25k strong army in Braganca.

19 Sept – We find Cibola!

We get:

800 cash
+4 Tax, Prod, and Manpower in Rio Branco

I order a Naval Manufactory in Lixbuna for it’s Fish.

29 Sept – Aragon took all of Castile save for 5 holdings. Time for us to finish Castile off.

1 Oct – I see Castile colonizing Bermuda

1 Nov – On the last possible month before the Age of Discovery ends, I declare the beginning of the Al-Andalus Golden Age. This can be done once, and it requires you have finished three tasks in that era.

Here is what it means:

+10% morale of armies and navies
+10% goods produced
-10% power costs

1 Dec – We enter the Age of Reformation

It typically is looking for things such as unifying your culture, faith, and such. We have one already done – converted at least 10 provinces of another faith to yours. That’s it.

1 Jan, 1533 – I order a Naval Manufactory in Aveiro to help it’s fish production

1 May –

Rio de Janeiro – 12 dev, jungle, natural harbor, Tropical Wood, I have cored and stated it, Sunni, Andalusian, 0.81 made here monthly. I order a Workshop here.

Next target is the big development option of Bahia which is south of us in Sergipe.

I am setting up Islamic orders in various places in Iberia, such as Shadhili which increases our taxes in some, and Qadhiri for production bumps in others. This is a regional commitment to one order that has to be done on a state-wide level, so four or five provinces at once.

1 July – The Ottomans finish knowledge sharing as they embrace colonialism

1 Sept – Brittany is colonizing St. Kitts.

Abe Sargent 12-31-2018 11:07 AM

28 Mar, 1534 – We get an event:

Expansion of the Penado Madrash

What would I like to do?

I choose: We contribute to the endeavor with these results:

+1 base tax and production in Alagoas

+10 prestige

We get -15% dev costs to all provinces in the Pernambuco area, but reduced tax and production there for a decade.

1 April –

Sergipe – Drylands, coastal, 11 Dev, Coffee, Sunni, Andalusian, 0.38 made here.

I send these colonists to Essequibo. Rio Bronco is my goal, and it’s inland in Colombia, so this is a poor holding which will get me started.

7 June – I reach out to my Ulemma and have them set up shop in the New World which will, for ten years, reduce my native uprising levels and increase their assimilation.

I make a general out of my Heir - he’s 2 star and I hand him my Braganca army

2 July- My heir gains Industrious!

1 Oct – I fabricate a claim on Cumana in France

1 Jan, 1535 –

Alagoas – This was my free colony I got from a colonial expansion event. It is now all grown up! Drylands, Coffee, 0.61 made here, 9 dev, Sunni and Andalusian

We get a new Brazilian colonial nation. I name it Garnatah Brazil.

1 Mar – I fabricate a claim on Aragon’s Tarragona

1 Apr – ADM TECH 12 – We can get 3 more states.

DIP TECH 12 - +0.40 naval morale

The max I could hold didn’t change, but the penalty for early tech growth relaxed on my level 12 holdings.

1 June – I influence nation on Tunis again

1 Aug – Qual Idea 7 – I finish this up! We get:

Espirit de Corps = +5% discipline

We get +5% army recovery speed for finishing this idea group.

We get the next Andalusian Idea –

Al Awasim - +10% fort defense, -25% fort maintenance on the border with a rival

That is our final Idea, and we get:

+10% goods produced or finishing our Ideas.

Now, I choose a new policy that combined Offensive with Exploration:

Letters of Marque - +50% privateer ability and +5% ship durability.

This is free with no upkeep required

Now I could have gotten the next level in MIL (As I am behind, it only costs 340 for my next tech)

But given I am about to enter a war in a few months, this made a lot of sense to me!

1 Sept – Native uprising in Essequibo. I send my conquistadors over from the next province where they are exploring.

26 Sept – Uprising defeated

1 Oct – Sugar in Bahia

Abe Sargent 12-31-2018 12:42 PM

1 Nov – Our truce with Castile ends. I declare the final war against Castile.

Battle – I have three military objects ready:

Of the Bermuda I have a small fleet of 3k troops. I order them to disembark

21 Mar- After combined my three armies, I finally beat the main 80k French + Aragon force on the west in Qunka and drive them back!

29 Mar – I seize Cumana from France.

3 April - The Turks capture the fort of Messina on Sicily.

3 May – We win another battle against Aragon’s army

28 June – I lose a naval battle to France

21 Aug – After a two month long campaign, we have defeated a major assault on our siege of Balansiyah

Time for peace!

Castile is off the board. I grab their 5 provinces.

Aragon is also willing to give us peace for just a single province – I take Salamanca

Abe Sargent 12-31-2018 01:28 PM

Here, I zoomed in for ya.

You can see my holdings all up and down here!

I went ahead and showed you my Aragonese holdings and pulled it up and you can see my Castillean ones north of former Portugal and Leon.
Salmanika – 14 dev, highlands, livestock, Catholic, Leonese culture, they make just 0.37 monthly for us, with it’s Mosque.

Liyun
– Mountains, Fort, Cath, Leonese, Emporium, Livestock, 12 dev, 0.31 dev here. It’s the innermost holding surrounded by Aragonese forces.

We moved the Sunni school to Brazil earlier, if you’ll recall, so we can always choose our Sunni Muslim scholar from the Shafi’i school, which gives us an extra merchant. I choose that, and we get a new merchant, which I send to Ivory Coast.

22 Nov – Several nations have been building up coalitions against us for over expansion again.

1 Dec –

100 Year Review

Here is a zoomed out view of the world for you

Army vs Navy

I have a land forcelimit of 108 and I have 98 units

I have a naval forcelimit of 81 and just 37 vessels

I have three major armies I keep in Liyon, Balansiyah, and Sebtah.

Of the folks we know of:

We have the 2nd most cash/month between Ming and Mameluks

We have the 5th most development

At 36 we are tied for the most techs with multiple Italian powers and Brittany

We are tied with Ming and Tuscany for the most Ideas unlocked

At 599, the number of Sunni provinces dwarves Catholic ones and their 394.

Our top ten provinces by Tax Revenue:

1. Garnatah, 20.63
2. Malaga, 19.67
3. The Azores, 17.32
4. Lizbuna, 15.40
5. Qulumriya, 14.52
6. Isbiliya, 14.52
7. Balansiyah, 13.40
8. Braganca, 13.40
9. Tulaytullah, 13.40
10. Burtuqul, 13.40

Our Top Ten Non-Gold Provinces by Production:

1. Garnatah, 24.56
2. Braganca, 15.62
3. Cape Verde, 15.05
4. Isbiliya, 14.83
5. Madeira, 14.56
6. Lixbuna, 13.83
7. Burqutul, 13.39
8. Malaga, 13.25
9. Aunka, 12.72
10. The Azores, 12.68

At 49 holdings, we are about 10 bigger than Aragon, have about 5 more than France, and are about half the size of the Turks.

Our Conquistador is the best military leader in the world right now

After Ming, we have the 2nd largest army

We have the 12th largest navy (of those we know about)

We have lost the 4th most troops in battle of any nations

Sevilla is the 5th best center of trade we know of, led by Genoa, Alexandria, Venice, and Lubeck in front.

Trade Goods, Current Price:

5.0 Gems
4.5 Copper
4.37 Paper
4.0 – Cocoa, Dyes, Silk, Ivory
3.6 – Cloth
3.3 – Salt
3.0 – Glass, Tobacco, Sugar, Cotton, Slaves, Coffee, Spices, Chinaware, Iron
2.75 – Incense
2.5 – Tea, Wine, Grain
2.0 – Livestock, Fish, Naval Supplies, Tropical Wood, Wool, Fur

We have the trading bonus for Sugar

We are the production leader for fish, but not the trade leader

Great Powers:

1. Ming
2. Andalusia
3. Ottomans
4. France
5. Timurids
6. England
7. Mameluks
8. Muscovy

Do you see what’s fun? Four are Muslim – Turks, Timurids, us, and Mameluks, leaving just three Christian nations – Muscovy, UK, and France.

Our allies:

UK, Turks, Tunis

Our vassals:

Tlemcen

Our Colonial Nations:

Garnatah Isles, Garnatah Brazil

My next missions are to set up a post in Guinea, to dominate Guinea, to establish a base in Brazil, to take the Balearic isles, to take out Morocco, to take the northern coast of Africa, to bring the remaining parts of the states of Castile and Aragon (Madrid, Calatayud, Huesca, and Valladolid),with future ones taking Sicily, Egypt, Southern France, Mecca, Mesopotamia, and more

Abe Sargent 12-31-2018 09:13 PM

19 Nov – Conversion in Liyun. Next target is Salmanika!

10 Mar, 1545 – I get a colonial expansion into the Cape Coast from the Gold and 200 folks have set up shop. I order the army to move here.

10 Jun – I have killed all of the natives in the Cape Coast

1 July –

Gold Coast – Jungle, Coastal harbor, next to Cape Coast and Whydah, and south of Kong. 10 Dev, Slaves, Fetishist, Aka, After I state this, we make 0.67 monthly. Gold Coast has a few bonuses – Entrepot - -5% dev costs, +10% trade and institution spread. I order a Workshop here. We also have the Slave Entrepot for the area and it has the same bonuses as before, save for Dev cost reductions.

I order these colonists to west of Cape Coast to Ivory Coast.

7 Aug – I kill the natives in the Ivory Coast.

2 Feb, 1446 – We order a few workshops in the Caribbean and Brazil to help out

1 June –

Pirara – 3 dev, Tropical Wood, Sunni, Andalusian, 0.11 made here, and I send these colonists inland to Rio Branco

1 Oct – Burtuqal is now Andalusian culture!

1 Dec – Cumana converts and the Gold Coast is next

Abe Sargent 12-31-2018 11:13 PM

12 Jan, 1547 – Salmanika converts!

1 Feb –

We have annexed Tlemcen!

We annexed –

Here I zoomed in for you. You can see the capital, which is their best holdings by far.

Berber is one of my accepted cultures, along with Andalusian, by the by

Tlemcen - As you can see, this Highlands, cloth, castle, Mosque, workshop, marketplace, center of trade with 21 dev and cash development is next to Tunis. I am moving my army here.

The High Atlas you see between Tlemcen and Figuig is actually impassible, so they are not connected.

Figuig – Sunni, Berber, livestock with a farm estate and Highlands, 6 dev, 0.66 made here monthly, Mosque,

Oujda – Highlands, Sunni, Berber, Mosque, Marketplace, Workshop, next to Tlemcen and Flex in Morocco (it’s capital), 11 dev, wool, 0.45 made here.

Oran – Where my fleet is parked, 10 dev, Drylands, Sunni, Algerian culture, Shipyard, Mosque, Workshop, I order a textile manufactory here for my cloth trade. It’s making us 0.69.

Mers el Kabir – 14 dev, cloth, coastal, Sunni, Algerian, 0.37 made here, Shipyard, Workshop, Mosque, I order a cultural shift to Berber.

We got 10 ships and 7000 troops as well.

Abe Sargent 12-31-2018 11:15 PM

22 Mar – I get an event that causes me to lose 12k manpower

29 June – We enter into a Royal Marriage with Mamluks

1 Nov – The ivory Coast will run with valuable Dyes.

22 Dec – I accept an alliance offer from Mamluks

1 May, 1548 – Our DIP advisor passes and I hire a new one that’s a Navigator that increases my colonial range.

18 June – I recall my colonists from Ivory Coast and dispatch them to Cape.

My goal is to establish a trading and exploratory post in South Africa that I can use to boomerang past Africa and then hit valuable places like Mauritius or Ile de Bourbon.

1 Oct – Cape Coast is found to be good with the Slave trade as well.

21 Feb, 1549 – I just got three events. I figured that I’d show them to you:

Here you are! You can see us in North Africa behind you, and we have the three events, as well as some cash and other stuff.

My colonial maintenance:

1st colony – 2 gold
2nd colony – 2 gold
3rd colony – 4 gold
4th colony – 10 gold

So, my Cape colony jumped my colonial maintenance from 8 to 18. If I had another colonist, then I’d be 2 per for 1-3, and then 4 for the next,by the by, in case you cared.

I choose to:

Tax the Sugar and we get +5% sugar over 5 years

I celebrate Eid al-fatr for 2 days as the cost between it and the 3 day one is crazy.

I make nice with the Seri natives. They are much less likely to rise and higher chance of native assimilation events in that province

Abe Sargent 01-01-2019 11:30 AM

23 Mar – Aveiro is now Andalusian!

I order the same at El-Balat, Avila, and Tulaytullah

1 May – Sugar in Rio Branco

1 Aug – Brittany is in Curacao now after Puerto Rico finished.

I fabricate a claim in PR

1 Oct – Now Curacao Is claimed

My peace with Aragon ends in two years in Oct 1551.

I cannot start wars while under a Regency Council.

I fire my military adviser and hire a level 3 one in order to get to the next level of tech before the war begins.

Our ruler is 9 so I need someone to wage war on me, or an ally for whom I want to join their war.

1 Jan, 1550 – The next institution arrives – the printing press, which began in Antwerpen.

1 Feb – We gain the Tobacco trading bonus

We lost our level three ADM adviser. I go to my clergy and recruit a level 3 minister who will cost 25% fewer to hire and to upkeep.

1 Sept – The Cape is found to be good with the growing of grain

19 Oct – I get a Rush of Colonists event and our colony development time increases for a few years.

11 Nov – France is now in Jamaica for their next colony.
22 Feb, 1551 – We finish some more ships.

1 June – ADMIN TECH 13 – We get +2% production

1 Aug – MIL TECH 13 - We get better artillery. I upgrade ours.

1 Oct – Our truce is up.

Abe Sargent 01-01-2019 01:23 PM

1 Feb, 1552 –

Rio Branco – 18 Dev, Jungle, Sugar, Sunni, Andalusian, inland deeply, I state-ify it, it has the Cibola bonus for +5 tax income from it, and we make 0.80 monthly from it. I order a Workshop here.

I need to work on the Caribbean more. I send these colonists to Havana.

25 May – A noble rebellion of 15 regiments rises in Medina L.

27 June – We put them down. But our Amir nobility are now disloyal and it hurts our manpower and military maintenance

21 Aug – I have a coup de temps. The uncle of our youth has taken over the realm, and he is 5/3/3. He is 19 years old. His child is 4 and is 3/3/5.

I pay to increase our stability back up to 3.

The goods news is that we can now do things like declare war and such.

7 Oct – We renew our RM with Tunis.

12 Dec – I fabricate a claim on Jamaica from France

Abe Sargent 01-01-2019 05:05 PM

14 Feb, 1553 –

I am ready.

We are going to declare war on Aragon, and their ally, France, will join them.

I have, ready to land In Jamaica, a small army in the fleet in the Jamaica channel

I have, ready to march next to it, a small army in Antigua. It will hit Guadeloupe

I have, next to Aragon, all three of my 25k armies as well as two 2k inf armies to hit smaller nations.

My goal –

Finish my mission and take Madrid, Huesca, Valladolid and Catalyaud, and then, if I have enough warscore, take Zamora from Aragon.

Meanwhile, grab Jamaica and steal it, and then take Guadeloupe from France in separate peace.

Here we go!

I declare war on Aragon with a wargoal of taking Madrid

15 Feb –

Battle Lines:

Andalusia
Great Britain
Ottoman Empire

Isles, and Brazil

Vs

Aragon
France
Papal States
Bohemia
Ragusa

My goal is to have GB keep France off me, the Turks keep Bohemia, PS, Ragusa, and Aragon’s Italians stuff under check while I quick blitz and overwhelm Iberian Aragon.

I order my mains to Huesca, Burgos and Madrid, while my two other armies to Z and V.

25 Feb - I win a Naval Battle in Cape against the three light ship French exploratory fleet with my three heavy ship one. I captured one of their light ships.

22 Mar – I capture Madrid and Guadeloupe

27 Mar - I win a naval battle off the Barbary Coast. I also capture V and Z.

1 May – We get a Trading in Fish event!

8 May – Two more minors are ours

10 May - I capture and seize Jamaica

22 May – Asturias is mine

6 June – Burgos is ours and I order two of my armies to combine and wedge out the Aragonese army behind that fort.

22 June – We defeat them and one of my armies chases it down to France’s Labourd

1 July - I win more than 10 vessels in a large victory in the Mediterranean

12 July – Huesca is ours!

12 Sept – After an 11 week battle in Labourd that involved the fleeing Aragonese army and a large 35k French one and all three of my armies, we win! I leave behind my Heusca army, the least blooded to siege Labourd and move the other two next door.

26 Oct – Two more Aragonese fell.

1 Nov –

Cape
– I make Cape a state and that’ss my last one, my 21st state. 15 dev, Grasslands, grain farmers. Fetishist, and Khoisan, I send a Missionary. Natural harbor, 0.90 made here.

I order these colonists to St. Thomas in the Caribbean, in order to bring it in.

DIP TECH 13 – Trade Eff. +2%

22 Nov – Two more fall to us.

19 Jan, 1554 – France tried to oust me, but I kept my main armies next door and brought them in and sent them packing.

26 Jan – Labourd is ours!

35k Aragonese troops are poring on the other side of the Pyranees.

22 March – Avila and El Balat are now Andalusian!

1 Apr – I begin a siege of Roussillon as Aragon fled my three combined armies

22 May – I assaulted the city to take it quickly, and we did!

1 June –

Ivory Coast – 3 deev, Jungle, Dyes, Sunni, Andalusian, 0.17 made

19 July – Every Iberian holding of Aragon is ours, plus, Labourd.

On the English flank, they lost two minors to France.

The Turks are Turking up the place

I go to peace with France first.

We do the following (I have a small warscore)

I get Guadeloupe, and they revoke cores on Caen and Constantin in English territory.

Now that pulls out the only great power in this war.

1 Aug – I have ordered my fleet and I am loading up an army for the Balearic isles

1 Sept – Havana is with Sugar

1 Oct – We get trading in Wine!

2 Nov – Minorca is ours

8 Nov – Majorca falls to us as well

27 Dec – Ibiza si ours

3 Jan – My Isles have taken Genoa from Aragon.

22 Jan – The Turks have taken 10 holdings.

We have a big warscore. 69%

Let’s see what I could get…

1 Feb, - Jamaica is with Sugar

Hold up…

I have enough Splendor that I can unlock my first Age of Reformation ability. There’s one I might want…

Yes:

Religious Wars - -25% warscore cost in wars with nations of other faiths.

I grab it – my five holdings have enough warscore for 38.

If I added in the four holdings in the Asturias area, it’s a 72 warscore. I could go back and try to up my warscore?

The three province of Vasconia’s state is just 57. The West Med of Sardinia + Corsica is 62. I

I do the islands.

I finish my Mission and gain a bunch of claims and 200 ADM Power.

Abe Sargent 01-01-2019 05:10 PM

I needed to help finish off the Caribbean as clearly others are here like France, Castile, Portugal, and Brittany, three of which we’ve grabbed. Cuba is more wealthy than ever before, so I wanted to start working on places here to secure future colonization efforts by the Isles.

Next is Turks Islands.

1 Jan, 1557 – Most of the nations that joined a coalition against us after our Aragonese war have left it. Only Savoy and Brittany are still in it, and they are allies of Aragon, so that makes sense.

6 Apri – We finish a mission to colonize brazil and we get -50% Native Uprising in colonies for 50 years.

20 Jue – The Med Iles have finished their cores as well

I order a Weapons Manufactory in Caglairi to improve our mining there

I order a fort in Sassari in northern Sardinia to protect Sardinia and Corsica

Abe Sargent 01-02-2019 07:30 AM

1 May –

St. Thomas –
9 dev, Sugar, coastline, Sunni, Andalusian, sent to the Isles

26 July – I declare war on Brittany for Porto Rico

I do not bring in any allies. They are in a war already and losing. They are unlikely to rally a major defense.

Puerto Rico – Coastline, Cotton, 11 dev, Francian culture, Reformed faith, handed to the Isles

1 Mar

Jamaica
– French, Catholic, natural harbor, Sugar, 10 dev, handed to my colonial nation

Abe Sargent 01-02-2019 11:10 AM

31 Mar – Cape Coast now Andalusian!

1 Apr – Our truce with France is up.

1 May – I can enact a new government reform

What makes sense?

Do I want a regional representation or more a state is me and I am the state philosophy for our deliberative assembly? I choose the state is me and we get 5 more states

Oran is back to state-ness and I order it to be cultured to Berber again

1 Aug?

Ready?

Today is going to be a big month for our Empire:

We get Government Tech 14 which lets us build the Plantation Manufactory and we get another Group of Ideas.

Plantations will help coffee, tea, sugar, cotton, cocoa and tobacco.

I order Plantations with my cash I’ve been saving, and the event I got in the war, to:

Cumana

I also order a Farm Estate in Cape and Zamora

Our new idea?

As we have two Military ideas, we cannot choose another one. I can talk any Dip or Admin Ideas though.

Expansion? Trade? Dip? Influence?

I could do two DIP ideas right now, but I am very close to the next tech that I don’t want to lose my saved DIP power for a long time.

I am down to Dip Ideas or Expansion. Expansion would explode my expansion. But I could also really use the extra Diplomats, dip relations, and permanent reduce to my warscore claims.

I do Expansion Idea, but I suspect Dip is my next group.

1 Oct – A great war has broken out across Europe as Catholic fights Protestant!

This may be a good opportunity to poach a few prizes

1 Dec – DIP TECH 14 – We can build Trade Stations which are a manufactory for Slaves, Spices, Furs, Ivory.

11 Jan, 1563 – I get a bonus event some ADM of 75 and that gets me to the 306 needed for my first Expansion Idea for another colonist. I send this one to Ile Bourbon in the Indian Ocean

1 Sept – MIL TECH 14 – We can build upgraded forts called Bastions as well as having better cavalry. I upgrade my horsies

11 Sept – Baladu-Walid converts. Next? Calatayud!

I am trying to decide on a target for war. Papal States? They are allied to Naples, Aragon, Milan, and Switzerland. I could try to bring Roma under my aegis. But I doubt warring on the capital of Christianity would slip under the radar like some other potential poaching I could do on the fringes right now

My truce with Aragon is up in three years. Not soon enough. I could wage war on France? Morocco? Their ally is the Mamluks, so that’s not where I want to look right now.

Let’s get ready for Papal States

1 Nov –

Trinidad – Sugar, 10 dev, Andalusian, handed to my Isles, Sunni

I send these colonists to Cuba.

12 Dec – Corsica converts and my next target is Sassari

Abe Sargent 01-02-2019 10:01 PM

1 Feb, 1564 – I have dropped off my Tangiers army in Sassari. I have moved one of my armies to the coast next to Roma in my main Med fleet of almost 50 vessels

1 April – Coffee in the Bahamas

3 April – Castello is now Andalusia

21 June – We are ready

I declare war for Roma!

Wow!

Aragon chose not to join them. I was really ready for pilling over the border. They have around 40k troops in their Iberian area causing damage, so this was perfectly timed until that happened! Ah well!

Battle Lines

Papal States
Switzerland
Naples

Vs

Andalusia
Tunis
Ottomans

Our states

29 June – Tunis defeats a Naples fleet.

5 July – Tunis defeats a papal fleet

6 Aug – I land in Roma. I don’t have enough artillery there to open it up so I use the coastal barrage ability to do so and we have breached the walls. I order more forces from Sassari to my fleet to arrive on Italy. I order those troops to land in Naples

17 Oct – We arrive in Naples, and like Roma, I open a coastal barrage to crack on the walls of the local defenses

3 Nov – Roma is ours!

29 Nov – We battle and win a large naval battle against the fleeing fleet from Roma and we captured 10 ships

I can’t go deeper into Italy yet(controlled by forts) so I have sent my successful army to Naples

1 Feb, 1565 – Expansion Idea #2 – Now we get another Merchant. I send it to Cape

I order a Trade Station to Gold Coast

11 Mar - We are capturing minors in Naples.

21 April – Naples’s capital of Napoli falls

6 June – Every province in Naples is ours, after being helped by Tunis and the Turks.

22 June – Tunis defeats the last fleet. Naples is 100% defeated.

I could go to a separate peace with Naples.

But let’s keep pushing

Abe Sargent 01-03-2019 01:41 AM

1 Oct – Bayomo in Cuba is with Tropical Wood

25 Nov – Calatayud is now Sunni! My next target is Cagliari

4 Dec – Qunka is now Andalusian culture

20 Dec – The Fort of Urbino falls to us

29 Jan, 1566 – We take the last minor holdings of the Papal States

21 Feb – We can do any of the following:

Annex the Papal States

This would give me an aggressive badboy of 60.3 and we’d annoy 26 nations.

Leave them Romagna, which I don’t really care about. 49 badboy, we annoy 24 nations

Leave them Urbino too. We just take three provinces.

40 badboy and 18 annoyed.

Just Roma for peace?

20 badboy and 11 states annoyed

That’s my minimum.

Want to really annoy Europe?

Take Napoli in a separate peace with Naples, which is next to Roma. 30.5 badboy and annoy 12 states, and then do the peace with the Papal stats for the core three – Roma, Umbria and Ancona.

Or I could just take Roma and then vassalize the Papal States. Which is a 43 badboy score.

For maximum land grab – Napoli and Salerno from Naples, then all of the Papal States. Then I can declare war on Aragon and try and remove them from Iberia in a major battle as they are under assault and half of their stuff is gone.

If I am going to get hit by Europe for a major war for being a nasty bad boy, might as well push them to the edge, right? I might as well earn it!

Got it!

I’l wait 5 months until the peace treaty with Aragon is up. I can declare war on them and then peace in italy..

I leave an army behind and begin to move to Iberia.

22 Apr – While waiting, I order a pair of Manufactories

7 May – Sassari is now Sunni – next is Majrit

18 May – Our peace with Aragon is up!

Abe Sargent 01-03-2019 07:37 AM

I declare war on Aragon for Palencia

Aragonese War:

Us

Vs

Aragon
Bohemia

I am not calling on my allies yet. I might call on Tunis later but the others don’t want to join us. They are busy or already at war. I need to collect some favorites and such.

1 June – Gold Coast is now Andalusian

1 July – Palencia is ours

4 July – I defeat their army in Rousillon

10 July – I rout that army in Girona

25 July – I defeat their army in Majorca

1 Aug – Ile de Bourbon is a great place for the growing of the Sugar

15 Aug – Two Aragonese minors are ours

22 Aug – The fleeing army from Majorca is routed in Ibiza

19 Sept – 2 more minors fall to us. Their capital and Burgos, the fort, are under French control, so they are not available for us to siege.

27 Sept – The fort of Roussilon is ours. We have every Iberian holdings from Aragon that others didn’t already control

I order this army to cross southern France and to arrive at Nice to hit Aragon there.

5 Nov – Majorca falls to us

19 Nov – My Roma army arrives at Genoa and begins a siege

I have two armies in the Northern Italy part of Aragon. I;m not looking at taking this, just to get a high enough warscore to push them around in Iberia

10 Dec – Nice is ours

29 Dec – Minorca is ours

11 Jan, 1567 – we capture another minor in Aragon

4 Mar – Another minor is ours

1 Apr – Genoa falls to us

24 May – The last three minors in Italy are ours.

Abe Sargent 01-03-2019 07:39 AM

Here!

See how we’ve captured all of Naples, the Papal States and Italian Aragon, as well as the Balearic Isles and Iberian of them.

All that’s left is Malta and Sicily.

The Aragonese war is at 60% right now and I could end it for…

7 Iberian holdings at 55 warscore

Alright let’s work on Sicily and Malta

Abe Sargent 01-03-2019 11:10 AM

11 Aug – I defeat an army on Sicily

19 Aug – We defeat a Bohemian navy at sea

3 Oct – Malta is ours

18 Nov – I defeat a Bohemian army that tried to hit us on Italy.

1 Dec – Exploration Idea #3 – We get +20 global settler growth

8 Dec – The Siege of Messina is ours and we captured it

12 Jan, 1568 – We rout the army in Sicily

10 Feb – I have captured all of Sicily and every holding of Aragon that’s not under Swiss or France is ours

Our warscore is now 96%

What could I now get?

The three Balearic Isles are 20% warscore

The 6 remaining holdings Iberia are 45

Sicily and Malta? 61.

I hold up because I really do want to emphasize the Iberian front. The big war on the Iberian and French flank is concluded and I would expect the war-wager, Utrecht, will take peace there soon.

1 May – Curacao is captured and burned down.

2 May – Cagliari is now Catholic

28 May – Tulaytullah is now Andalusian

I am buildings up a 20k army to get me to my land forcelimit in order to prepare for taking these lands and to get defense ready. I suspect a big war will follow soon as Europe’s Christian powers won’t like it

2 July – I pull my colonists from Bahamas and send them to Grain Coast next to Ivory Coast. I am moving my African army over to help out with it.

I order a Trade Station for the Gold Coast.

27 Au – I kill the natives in the Grain Coast

1 Jan, 1569 –

Bahamas – 5 dev, Sunni, Andalusian, Coffee, handed to the Isles

I pull my colonists from Cuba and send them to Mauritius

Peace with Aragon. They took Aragon losing it’s cores on France, giving up cash, and then giving up War Reparations

16 Jan – I don’t have to capture Burgos, their capital, and the minors that were theirs. If I want, I can instead take the stuff as I have a claim on it.

We still have a 99 warscore

Got it

I can’t get all provinces in Iberia. SO I take two full states, the valuable ones, and then the Balearic Isles as well.

That’s a warscore of 99 precisely

That would be everything but the three provinces in Asturius.

All of:

Balearic Isles -

Minorca

Mallorca

Ibiza

Vasconia –

Burgos

Navarre

Rioja

Vizcaya

Catalonia –

Barcelona

Rousillon

Girona

Tarragona

Urgell

And that’s would work.

That’s not bad, right? That’s 12 Aragonese holdings we’d latch onto

I spend around 200 ADM coring my 12 additions.

And then we can really push hard by adding Napoli and Salerno, and then Roma, Urbano, et all.

Ready?

Let’s do it

Napoli and Abruzzi, not Salerno

Abruzzi is in the same state as my non-Roma additions

About another 100 ADM for those two alone

Mar 8 – Peace with the Papal States – I take everything but Romagna – Urbino, Roma, Umbria, and Ancona!

We get 260 in cash and I vassalize them

I take on the rank of Empire! Before I do, I spend some prestige to make nice with our vassal, as we max our prestige afterwards.

All Iberian cultures are now accepted

Abe Sargent 01-03-2019 06:01 PM

Here’s the map all zoomed in for you. I have two main armies on Italy, as well as the extra one I made in Iberia in my fort. You can see how annoying they are likely to be with me. Pretty much everyone dislikes me.

Taking Roma, Napoli, and others in Italy as well as most of Iberia and the Balearic Isles

Now there is something I’d like to point out.

We are still less than Spain at about this time. It would have Aragon and Castile and our Med Islands, areas in North Africa far in excess of ours, all of Iberia save for the handful of Portuguese holdings, and all of Naples, as well as Holland and all of the Netherlands.

Other than Rome, nothing here was outside of what Spain was (especially after the Iberian Union of Portugal and Spain).

Alright, tour of our new area time!

We are doing these in the same order as above, with name changes as appropriate

Balearic Isles -

Minorca – Mosque, Shipyard, 5 dev, Cath, Catalan culture, 0.08 made here

Mayurca – Naval manufactory, fish, 6 dev, shipyard, Cath, Catalan, 0.14 made here

Ibiza- As above save for 4 dev an 0.01

Remember that all Iberian cultures are now accepted

Vasconia –

Qila (Burgos) – Fort, Wool, Hills, Emporium, marketplace, Masque, Castilian, Catholic, 12 dev, 0.21 made here

Banbaluna (Navarre)
– Iron, mountains, 8 dev, Mosque, Cath, Basque, 0.11 made here, next to France

Rioja – Highlands, Mosque, Win, 6 Dev, Catholic, Castilian, 0.11 made here

Vizcaya – Grasslands, iron mining, coastal, next to France, Shipyard, Mosque, Regimental Camp, 7 dev, 0.11 made here, Catholic

Catalonia –

Barshaluna (Barcelona) – Grasslands, 17 dev, Glass trade, shipyard, mosque, marketplace, workshop, natural harbor, Catholic, Catalan, 0.35 made here

Roussillon – Border with France, coastal, castle, Hills, Wine, 9 dev, Mosque, 0.15 made here, Catholic Catalans

Garundah (Girona)
– Cath Catalans, Hills, fish, coastal, Shipyard, Mosque, 9 dev, 0.11 made here

Tarrakunah (Tarragona)
– Cath Catalans, coastal, Ebro Estuary, grasslands, 6 dev, wine making, Farm Estate, Mosque, Marketplace, 0.16 made here

Urgell – Hills, Cath Catalans, Mosque, 9 dev, Wool, 0.13 made

Napoli – Cath, Neapolitan, Farmlands, 34 dev, 0.60 made here, Grain, natural harbor, Farm Estate, marketplace, castle, workshop, shipyard, Mosque

Abruzzi – Mountains, Cath, Neapolitan, 13 dev, Wine, 0.25 made here, shipyard, workshop, and Mosque. Coastal

Roma – Catholic, Umbrian Culture, Paper making, 39 devel, 0.93 made here, Grasslands, Camp, Shipyard, Workshop, Marketplace, fortress, Mosque.

Roma has a bonus – The Conquest of Rome – If a Muslim or non-Catholic Christian holds it, then they get bonus prestige and Missionary strength

Umbria – Inland, Umbrian, Cath, Hills, Wine, 14 dev, Marketplace, Workshop, Mosque, 0.33

Ancona
– Paper Making, Hills, coastal, 15 dev, Shipyard, Mosque, Reformed, Umbrian, 0.48 made here

Urbino –Castle, Shipyard, Marketplace, natural harbor, hills, 14 dev, Grain, 0.33 made. Next to Papal States in Romagna

I have never pushed this hard this fast before. Ever. It feels organic, and we still aren’t as far as others, but unlike Spain or such we seem to really annoy everyone out there.

Get ready for the coalition war.

I order my fortress into bastions in – Sassari

We’ll also do other places like Roussillon and such.

Abe Sargent 01-03-2019 07:24 PM

25 Mar – Majrit converts!

1 Nov – Rebellion in Ancona with 30k troops. Luckily I have both of my armies right next door

27 Nov – Defeated

1 Dec – I have a potential rebellion in the Balearic Isles but I can’t get there in time so I invest some MIL power to quell the rebellion

1 Mar, 1570 – Vasconian rebels in Rioja rebel.

Mar 19 – Local forces from Madit el Salim arrive and put them down

9 Apr- All of my cores in Aragon are finished!

I turn Vasconia, Catalonia and Baleares into states.

I finish my Islands of the Mediterranean mission. This gives Cagliari +4 tax, production, and bonuses to trade and such here. I order a Marketplace for Cagliari

My three missionary targets are Ibiza, Minorca, and Mayurqa – I send a Missionary Holy Order to the Baleares to speed up the time it’ll take them there.

I order an upgraded fortress in Roussillon

1 May -I pull colonists from Ile de Bourbon and send them to Karoo next to Grain Coast

11 May – Natives in Karoo are dead

1 June – Neapolitan separatists strike Abruzzi. I send my combined armies next door.

2 July – Put down

1 Aug – Bayomo, Cuba, 5 Dev, Tropical Wood, handed to the Isles, etc

I pull my colonists from Grain Coast and send them to Curacao

9 Apr, 1571 – Our core in Roma is up and I order our fort extended to a Bastion

1 June – Rebellion in Qila.

27 June – Despite that I outnumbered them by 3:2, we lose in Qila, luckily, it’s a fort so the rebels are assaulting it and it will take some time to fall.

16 July – The rest of Italy is now en-cored. I order Urbino and Napoli to have their fortresses upgraded as well. After I make them states and cores that leaves us with around 100 ADM power.

1 Aug – Sugar in Mauritius

8 Oct – We defeat the rebellion in Qila

I move Umbrian to a accepted culture

26 Oct – The three Balearic Isles converted! Next are Vasconia – Rioja, Vizkaya, and Tarrakunah. I sent in a Shadhili order to help for missionary. I also send that order to Central Italy for the future.

2 Nov – Influenza outbreak in Oran. I quarantine the province

Abe Sargent 01-04-2019 07:19 PM

1 Mar, 1572 – I claim Labourd from France

1 May – I reach out to my clergy to establish new world missions again for 10 years.

1 Aug – The big war across all of Europe has concluded. Utrecht won. They are getting some badboy coalition against them as well.

8 Aug – I name Russia my rival

1 Oct – Tropical wood in Karoo. Ah well that was a missed opportunity.

1 Nov – Expansion 4 – This is identical tot eh idea we already had with Andalusian fort pumping.

I order a Farm Estate in Roussillon

1 Mar, 15573 – Coffee in Curacao

30 April – Rioja and Vizkaya convert. Next? Qila and Abruzzi

1 Jan, 1574 – Expansion #5 – We get +1 diplomatic relation.

18 Jan – We are the home of a major economic event so we get a ton of cash – the proliferation of the coffee plant has reduced it’s price- Coffee drops by 40%

I order Plantations for the Sugar in Ile be Bourbon and Madeira with my cash

Here’s my current cash breakdown for you:

We get:

70.11 tax
71.06 production
68.43 trade
2.41 gold mines
3.17 tariffs
0.79 vassals

We are spending:

40.83 three level 3 advisers giving us 3 power monthly in each of ADM, DIP, and MIL power

10.86 state maintenance – this represents the infrastructure of running these states.

61.95 – Army at 100% maintenance

11.21 – Navy at 100% maintenance

30.50 – Fort maintenance with every fort at 100%

10.00 – 4 colonies

5.89 – 3 missionaries

So we are currently making 40.51 monthly, for a total of around 480 annually. It costs 475 to make a manufactory, so I can, roughly, get one Manufactory a year. A bastion is 380.

After those expenditures, I have 984 cash in my treasury

1 Apr – Tirwal is now Andalusian

1 May – I claim Rio de la Plata from France in southern S. America and Genoa from Aragon

1 Sept – I pull my colonists from Karoo and send them next door to Cape Verde

16 Oct – all natives in Cape Verde are slain

1 Nov – I pull colonists from Curacao and dispatch them to St Helena in the Atlantic. As soon as I set up, I’ll send them to the Indies. I just want to set this up to grow, as it’s uninhabited and poor but a potential and easy port for others.

I have Tuscany in mind African near Kongo, France in Sao Tome and south of Morocco, and such. So taking this off the map helps in a very minor way.

7 Dec – Farm Estate for Rioja

Abe Sargent 01-04-2019 08:19 PM

1 Jan, 1575 – Being at another colony puts me at 20 total maintenance and an additional 10 from where I was previously. FYI

I order one of my armies to Roussillon and then updated with more people.

My current landlimit is 175 regiments. Let’s invest on getting that filled

22 Feb – Banbaluna is my next conversion target

1 Mar –

Mauritius
– 13 dev, coastline, Island, cored, Sunni, Andalusian. Sugar, 1.12 made here, and I order up a Workshop here.

1 April – I pull my colonists from St. Helena. Next is Flores in the Indies, and it will take more than a year to even reach there.

1 June – I send colonists to Beafada, next to Cape Verde and next to Tuscany on the other side.

18 July – Natives there are slain

1 Nov – Qila converts. Next is Urbino

1 Dec –

Curacao
– 8 dev, coastline, handed to Isles

Karoo – 6 dev, Jungle, Tropical Wood, next to Cape Verde and Ivory Coast, 0.30 made here monthly.

1 Jan, 1576 – Britain offers to share their knowledge of the Printing Press with us and we agree. We will pay them 10% of our income monthly. I drop the upkeep on a few forts that are internal, such as Tulaytullah to drop our costs. I’d have word of a war with enough time to raise their maintenance should we need to do so.

Also my colonies are down to cheaper costs.

I fabricate a claim on Aquitaine

5 Jan – France just took out a minor but sizeable power in Guinea.

1 May – Expansion Idea – We get another colonist I send him to Orinco Delta in Colombia and its next to Cumana, Trinidad, and Essequibo. I want to work on a Colombian colonial nation

1 July – Our level 3 theologian passes, and I grab a level 1 Inquisitor who increased our missionary strength and then spend some cash to raise it to level 3.

11 Oct – Banbaluna converts! Next is Urgell.

Abe Sargent 01-04-2019 09:28 PM

1 Jan, 1577 – I can embrace the next level of DIP tech, but I am going to wait. I want to embrace the Printing Press, and we are getting close. That would drop my power needed and leave me a lot left.

1 May – I can choose another Age of Reformation ability that lasts for the Age. I choose to speed up my institutional spread

15 May – GB declared war on France and called me to it. I join them

War –

Us

2 Aug – Bern falls to us.

9 Aug – GB Pulls Switzerland out of the fight

20 Aug – Lyonnais falls

I have a big-ish warscore against France of 35.

I go for a separate peace

Here is what I do:, let me force one of my diplomats back

This is my goal

I take Sao Tome

I take Labourd, a fort next to me in France

I force France to give up the African nation they just grabbed – Jolof,

Cash

The UK goes to peace before my diplomat arrives.

We only get Sao Tome.

GB took their war target and some other stuff.

Sao Tome – 4 dev, Naval supplies, French, Catholic, coastline, 0.04 made here

I recall my colonists from Sierra Leone to set back up in St. Helena

1 Sept – Napoli converts!

Next? Garundah

I order a Farm Estate in Umbria

11 Sept – Aragon and Naples are at war

3 Nov – We embrace the Printing Press.

Dip Tech 14 – We can get – better galleons, frigates, and bonus settler growth as well as colonial range.

We are left with hundreds of DIP after embracing the Press.

I begin to upgrade my fleet

16 Nov – Let’s build a Flagship!

I Choose heavy ship

I choose these three bonsues:

Command Aftercastle – Fleet gets +5% naval morale

Hull Sheathing - +50 durability of this vessel

Improved Crow’s Nest - +3 ship width when engaging

So we have a defensive buffer for a fleet.

Abe Sargent 01-04-2019 09:50 PM

1 Jan, 1579 – I fabricate a claim on France’s Cayor that it took from Jolof

1 Feb – Expansion Idea #7 - +20% Global trade Power – We get +5 states for finishing this

I can get one free Admin policy, so I do:

Expansion and Offensive Ideas finished; we can get The Pioneer Policy – as soon as a colony is built, we will discover everything next to it.

I repeal Letters of Marque and replace it with the Colonial Expansion policy that gives me +20% settler growth and -50% native uprising

This is free as it replaced my free Letters of Marque as a Dip policy. Every policy after the first costs 1 ADM, Mil, or DIP as appropriate.

I order a Trade Station in the Grain Coast for its Ivory

Barshaluna is next

1 Dec – Mil Tch 15- We get better infantry and I upgrade them. My land morale increases by +1.

1 Mar, 1580 – Flores is with Incense

I’m surprised that we haven’t had a punitive war yet from Europe. We have a coalition of more than 20 nations that are ready to do so.

1 May Textile Manufactory in Urgell

1 July – I fabricate a claim for Salerno

Aragon took two provinces from Naples in southern Italy, leaving just four holdings of theirs

1 Sept –

Beafada – Ivory, drylands, 3 dev, Andalusian, Sunni, etc. 0.16 made here.

I dispatch these colonists to Cartagena

1 Nov – Farm Estate for Avila

28 Dec – Sao Tome is now cored

Abe Sargent 01-04-2019 10:32 PM

1 Apr, 1581 – Fernando Po with Fish

17 June – Garundah converts, next is Sao Tome

1 July – I claim Siena from Tuscany

1 Oct – Naval Supplies in St. Helena

Sierra Leone
– 5 dev, Jungle, Ivory, Sunni, Andalusian, I order a trading station here, 0.2.

22 Oct – I get a Marriageable Women event and Po grows by 200

25 Dec – Cumana is now Andalusian culture

1 Jan, 1582 –

Let’s unpack our current colonial growth rate:

This is Orinoco Delta currently, but it’s similar for others:

Spread 120/year guaranteed. This is from the follow bonuses:

50 from DIP Tech

+20 Native Suppression Policy

+60 from various Ideas and Policies.

-10 for Tropical

Result? 120 or 10/month.

That means that if I had no other bonuses, that a colony would take 100 months to get fully up to 1000 needed for the colonization process to finish. 100 months is just 8 years.

Now there is another bump:

New Settler chance. While one of my colonists is in this place, there is a chance each month that will get a bonus to our colonial development.

For Orinoco that’s 17.6% monthly for an extra group of settlers.

Right now, we have 895 colonists in Orinoco Delta. Without any more successes at faster growth, we’ll be at 1000 in 11 months.

That gives you a good example.

Compare us to, say, Holland. They are just at 50/year in Para, but have around the same % chance of a bonus.

4 Jan – France removed Brittany from Europe. They have a colony in Brazil, Ceara, which is now their capital.

1 Feb – Tunis has embraced the Printing Press

29 Apr – My Quest for the Seven Cities conquistadors have started a quest for the Gold Cups of Quivira which they have some leads for. Let’s see if it’s fruitful!

1 July – Orinoco Delta – is now a fullprovince.

I send these colonists to Alcantara in Brazil on the far side of Holland’s colonial nation

ADM Tech 15 – My armies can now be given forced march orders

11 Aug – Barshaluna converts! Roussillon too!

1 Sept – I fabricate a claim on Naples for another holding of it

21 Sept – France expanded and took Tuscany’s colonies next to me.

1 Nov –

Flores – Incense, coastline, Indies, Sunni, Andalusian, I state it up, 11 dev, Animist, Papuan, Ii send a missionary here,0.70 made here monthly. I send these colonists to East Timor which is next door from Flores.

We’ll be using Flores as my new base of exploration. I have my explorer fleet here ready

Our Golden Era has now finished!

So sad

1 Dec – Coffee in Cartagena

Abe Sargent 01-05-2019 03:40 AM

1 Jan

Fernando Po – 6 dev, islands, Fish, Sunni, Andalusian., 0.43 made here

I send these colonists to Anzoategui, which is next to Cumana and up the coast. I want to get Colombia to a colonial nation.

1 Feb - We find Quivira! It’s rumors have been over-exaggerated. It’s just a well-developed area, not like Cipola in Rio Branco. It’s is Missiquoi which is in New England, three holdings in. I pull my colonists from Cartagena and send them to Androscoggin in New England area, a coastal holding with a 10 dev.

It’s not nice and I’ll need to send over my Conquistadors and clear it out

27 Feb – They are all dead!

I currently get almost 60 cash monthly.

I Order a plantation in O. Delta

1 Oct – My army reformer advisor passes. Next? I hire a Grand Captain who is level 2, promote him to level 3. He will reduce my military maintenance by 10%.

11 Nov 0 I claim Brittany’s capital of Ceara in Brazil

4 Feb, 1584 – Flores converts. Next is Mosque

Abe Sargent 01-05-2019 05:06 AM

20 Feb – Our truce with Aragon ends

Aragon is allied to Bohemia and Luneberg.

I begin to prepare myself to oust Aragon from Iberia. And maybe take Sicily, Malta, or part of Italy while I’m at it

Aragon has 37k troops on Sicily, and that’s it

My goal –

Hit Sicily’s Messina with my combined Italian armiers

Hit the Iberian onces with my army in Qila.

Hit Italian north Aragon after crossing France with one armies in Roussillon that arrives at Nice and then Genoa

5 Mar – I declare war on Aragon for Palencia

I am not calling on my allies, I don’t think I’ll need them.

I order armies to Nice and Genoa.

19 Mar – I claim Pisa from Tuscany

27 Mar – Vizkaya is now a Dargah Shrine for the rest of the game

30 Mar – We have defeated the local Aragonese army at their capital of roughly 5k and begin a siege

1 May – Our siege at Genoa begins

6 May – We defeat a local navy

19 May – Nice is ours

22 June – Another Italian minor is ours

1 July – Two more minors are ours

22 July – I begin a naval barrage of Messina with my large Mediterranean navy, the siege of Messina has begun

12 Aug – Palencia is ours

6 Sept – We begin to siege Praha, the capital of Bohemia

16 Sept – Asturias falls, which forces the fleeting routed navy back out to my waiting one.

22 Sept – We sink the enemy flagship and get some prestige

28 Sept –Our ruler passes

Our new ruler is 37 years old, doesn’t have a heir, and is 2/3/5. I invest in a stability rise

2 Oct – We win and captured 5 more ships

9 Oct – Parma is ours and every Italian holding of Aragon is under my control

I send my fleet for repairs.

6 Nov – Messina falls. I order my combined army to smash theirs in Sicily

1 Dec – We win the battle of Palermo against their army

11 Dec – Praha falls

27 Dec – We win in Syracuse

30 Dec – We defeat the Bohemian army

16 Jan, 1585 - have defeat the army in Palermo and it’s gone

2 Feb – Bohemia accepts a white peace offer. I want to focus on Aragon

9 Feb – Palermo falls

1 Mar – I get a trading in Cocoa event

Syracuse is ours

That gives me a 99% warscore vs Aragon and Luneberg

Time for peace

I take the three holdings in Iberia in the state of Asturias

That’s 33 warscore

Sicily and Malta are 65 and put me at 99.

72.7 aggressive. Let’s do it

Abe Sargent 01-05-2019 05:17 AM

Map time!!!

That looks so pretty. All of Iberia is now ours, and we’ve expanded in an Aragonian/Spanish manner to the east as well. I was expecting to have started pushing in African more by now, this was organic.

You can see the blob of Austria above me, my ADM was hit hard by the cores for these, and my cash is still fine. Six colonies is just 22 cash/month when you have 4 colonists.

Here are my new additions. Let’s begin with Iberia:

Palencia
– Hills, Wool, 7 dev, 0.23 cash/month, Catholic, Castilean, Mosque built here,

Asturias – Grasslands, 15 dev, coastal, livestock, Catholic, Leonese, Mosque, Shipyard, R. Camp, and I destroy the camp and later will but a Farm Estate here, making us 0.61/month

Cantabria – Natural harbor, grasslands, Naval Supplies, camp, shipyard, 13 dev, Cath, Castillean, marketplace, 0.36 made here – I destroy the Camp and will put a Naval Manufactory here later

Remember all f these are accepted cultures.

4 Jan, 1586 - Defeated

1 April – Spices in East Timor

Trade Station ordered for Flores

8 Apr – Our Iberian holdngs cores have finished.

We have finished a mission. Iberian Dawn. For the next 20 years we get +20% land morale and we get permanent claims on France’s Provence and Languedoc areas.

I send Missionaries to my three Asturias holdings right after bringing in the Order that helps Missionaries

1 May – Rebellion in Palencia. My Qila army moves over

22 May – Defeated

1 July –

St. Helena –
3 dev, Naval supplies, island, Sunni, Andalusian

1 Aug – We have a new heir, a 3/3/3 person

1 Dec – I have maxed my DIP power so I am spending it here and there to increase production development in my holdings.

Abe Sargent 01-05-2019 12:44 PM

1 April, 1587 – Our truce with Naples ends

The coalition against us is big, but some, like Baden, have begun to leave it.

How you see my aggressive expansion changes on who you are:

Morocco - -8 penalty right now, and we are not allied with them

Austria? -341 penalty right now, and neither are rivaled nor enemies of each other

Similar Venice, Savoy and such.

But northern provinces with less interest in Italy?

Utrecht - -44penalty

Holland? With whom we’ve been at war? -46

Mainz? -53

Saxony? -126

Sweden - -85, Denmark, -110,

How about some non-allied Muslims?

0 penalty. They don’t care

Orthodox?

Lithuania - -13
Kiev - -17

Russia, who is my Rival, just -13

So the issue folks have with my massive and ongoing expansion relates to their interested in the area in which I was expanding.

27 April – Two folks are trying to poach the rest of Aragon.

7 May – Massina now a core, and I order the fort here upgraded

9 July – Palencia converts and Ancona is next

15 Aug – My other three holdings are now cored.

1 Sept – Cartagena is now a full province (8 dev, jungle, Coffee, natural harbor)and that leads to the creation of the Garnatah Colombian colonial nation

10 Sept – Asturias and Cantabria have converted. Next? Malta and Saraqusa

I have finished a mission to Retake Sicily and an event happens:

The Emirate of Sicily – II have two options:

Option 1 – Release Sicily as the Emirate of Sicily, a March vassal of ours, and use them as a buffer state against the north. We get cores on the areas of Italy in – Cantabria, Lazio-Campania, and Apulia.

We already have many of those holdings, or temporary cores. The buffer state really isn’t needed.

Option 2 – Keep Sicily. For the next 20 years it gets +3% Missionary str and +50% trade power

I choose Option 2.

1 Mar, 1588 –

Androscoggin – Furs, 10 dev, Woods, 0.77 made here. In southern Maine.

22 May – Balarm converts!

I am building up the spy network in the good place back here

1 Sept – Kennebec with Naval Supplies

I send a Missionary to Rio de la Plata, which we took some time ago but I kind of forget after it stopped being a colony as it’s not on the maps I check

Abe Sargent 01-05-2019 03:03 PM

1 Jan, 1591 – ADMIN TECH 16 – We can build Mills, which are the manufactory for produced goods like Chinaware, Glass, Paper, Tropical Wood, and Gems.

1 Mar – West Timor with Spices just like East Timor was.

17 Dec – Sokoki and Rio de la Plata have both converted to the one true faith!

I order manufactories in Sokoki and

1 Mar, 1594 – I pull my colonists from Benguela and send them next door to Luanda. This will bring me next to Kongo. It is in the same state and Benguela and St. Helena, so it’s already en-stated, so its free infrastructurally.

18 Mar – We kill the natives in Luanda

I want to start filling out states I already have invested in, including the Indian Ocean island Mahe, in the same state and Mauritius and Ile de Bourbon, and the rest of the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa, which, up until now, I’ve left vacant for others to slide into.

I have not colonized like I did with Athens where I colonized defensively. Here, save for a few in Brazil or Colombia, I haven’t been grabbing evevything external first. Europe was free to swing around Africa to Asia or around South America to the same and they haven’t. I took out two historical colonial nations, although they were here as well. We also have me occasionally taking colonial additions to my queue, such as Jamaica, Bermuda, Rio de la Plata, Cumana, Puerto Rico, Guadeloupe, Sao Tome, and of course The Azores and such.

1 April –

Kennebec
– Naval Supplies, 3 Dev, Hills, Inland, part of the same state of Maine as Androscoggin, Andalusian, Sunni, 0.13 made here

I do not expand in New England or such right now.

In my previous dynasty, seeing England next to Maine right now, I’d jump next to them and block them.

Instead, I am going and doing things different. I didn’t go to New England to stop England, I went here for Missisquoi. Which I have. Now I’ll likely expand in a few places so I can build a colonial nation and then build it, but I’m not playing defense.

28 April – Missisquoi is now a core and I send in a missionary to her

1 Aug – The first of the Garnatah Treasure Fleets from South America arrive!

27 Aug - I have killed the natives in Cayenne

1 Sept – Cayenne is with fish

27 Sept – I pull my colonists from Whydah and send them to Massachusetts, a big area for a colonial base.

Abe Sargent 01-05-2019 09:14 PM

11 Nov –

150 Year Review!

Some maps first:

Here is Europe and North Africa:

As you can see, Austria, the Turks, and the others are here. The Mamluks have won wars against the Turks and have expanded northward.

Here’s the southern Hemisphere, with an emphasis on Africa. See how Yemen has moved across the Red Sea and take a lot of Africa? You can also see that Kongo is losing a war with Chokwe, and the other nations there You can see my Guinea attempts to finish that area, although I have left many openings for Europeans to follow through. I am surprised that my mission here hasn’t fired as finished.

You can see me in the Cape, but I’ve left a lot of south Africa un grabbed. I’l flash out the area soon as I want t start filling in the gaps in my states as my number of states available is dwindling

You can see Tuscany and France in Africa, Tuscany is north of Kongo and France is north of us in Guinea.

Over in SA, you can see our colonial nations expanding, including Brazil and Colombia. I have expanded into Rio Branco to grab the City of Gold there in Colombia and I have left this for my folks. I have set it and forget it. You can see Holland as well as Brittany here as well

Here’s north, central, and the Caribbean for you. You can see the British Colonial nation of Newfoundland to our north in Canada, as well as us in Maine, and now Massachusetts I would expect us to grab a few high profile places here, like Chesapeake and Delaware, to secure enough spaces for our colonial nation to be created, and then I’ll set and forget it. You can see we have brought in all of the Caribbean with my colonial nation here.

No one else is in North America from Europe. It’s wealthy. Someone like France, Tuscany, or others would make a lot of sense here, but they aren’t. No one is in Colombia, Mexico, or Louisiana either

Here’s a Asia for you I’m here for just a brief interlude with my Isles, which I have put my mouse toward at the bottom As you can see, Ming China has been eaten by Korea, the Oirat Horde, Tsang, and others. You can also see the Timurids here as well.

You can see the big winners of this dynasty right now – Austria, France, Great Britain, the Turks, the Mamluks, Russia, and such.

I currently am making 83.46 cash in profit monthly after expenses for roughly, 996 annually. That’s enough for two Manufactories at 950 total. That’s a lot of cash.

We have slow rolled colonially as I expected this game to be about conquering, but it’s worked.

As you can see, Austria, the Turks, and the others are here. The Mamluks have won wars against the Turks and have expanded northward.

Abe Sargent 01-05-2019 10:41 PM

I currently have:

97 vessels out of a naval forcelimit of 208, and an army of 185k out of a forcelimit of 204k.

Allies:

The Turks
The Mamluks
Tunis
Great Britain

Vassals:

Papal states

Our colonial nations

Let’s look at the ledger

We are making the most money in the world and beating Ming China by around 36 gold monthly

We are the most developed nation in the world. We lead Ming by 150

We have the most manpower available in the world, with around 30k more than Russia

We are 2nd in the world with the most techs at 48, behind Tuscany at 49. Nations like Bremen and Venice are tied with us

We are tied with the Mamluks as the only two states with all 28 ideas unlocked. Many are at 27 or 26

Only five nations in the world have an Empire rank:

Ethiopia
Japan
Ottomans
Timurids
Us

Our top ten provinces by tax income:

2. Qahirah
3. Venice
4. Amol
5. Roma
6. Constantinople
7. Prome
8. Garnatah
9. Patna
10. Beijing

And there you are!

We have 107 holdings. That’s about even with Austria, About twice G. Britain, fewer than Ming even after it was eaten a bit, a lot more than the Mamluks, and a little more than the Turks at 99, and twice as many as France

Top colonial targets that have at least 10 development in order:

1. Pontianak
2. Tauranga
3. Whangarei
4. Ambon
5. Banjar
6. Kendari
7. Benguela
8. Eora
9. Delaware
10. Chesapeake
11. Sakam
12. Manado
13. Poso

Of this list, two are N America, 3 in Australia, and 1 in Africa. The rest are in the Indies.

We have the largest army in the world, with Ming at 164k next. Only Russia and the Turks have more than 100k

With 59k I have more cavalry that any other force. The next highest amount of cavalry is Ming at 15k, then Khemer at 12k and the Turks at 10k. No one else has 10000 cavalry, which helps to illustrate that I have better armies as well. With the quality and Offensive ideas finished, it’s just going to be hard to take me on

After Ming at 106, with have the 2nd largest navy, although Venice is right behind us with 95, and Britain at 91

Top Ten Trade nodes in the World:

1. Beijing
2. Venice
3. English Channel
4. Lubeck
5. Girona
6. Alexandria
7. Hangzhou
8. Persia
9. Bengal
10. Sevilla
11. Caribbean

We dominate the 10th and 11 largest nodes in the world, and lead trade in Genoa and Cape

Trade Goods by Current Price:

5.25 – Paper
5.0 – Gems
4.50 – Tobacco, Copper
4.0 – Cocoa, Dyes, Silk, Ivory
3.60 – Cloth
3.50 – Fur
3.30 – Salt, Coffee
3.0 – Spices, Sugar, Cotton, Chinaware, Slaves, Iron, Glass,
2.50 – Livestock, Tea, Wine
2.12 – Incense
2.00 – Naval Supplies, Fish, Grain, Tropical Wood, Wool

We have the Trading Bonus (which you need to control at least 20% of the world’s trade and be the leader)

Tobacco
Cocoa
Sugar
Coffee
Fish
Wine

This includes bonuses like -1 national unrest for Wine, or +5% institution spread for Coffee and -25% spy network build against you from Tobacco. They tend to be minor but useful bonuses.

We are close-ish to these trade goods:

1. Slaves. We have 18% of the world trade and lead it.
2. Wool. We have 14%
3. Naval Supplies, 12
4. Livestock, 11
5. Cloth, 11

Many trade goods are in tons of places, and can be colonized, like grain, wool, sugar, and raw goods like Furs or Ivory. While some goods aren’t that common, like Tea, there are a lot of places that can get it. For example, we have some Tea in Brazil. But most of the rare goods that are manufactured cannot be found colonially.

For example, take Glass. Right now, there are 15 places in the world that specialize in the Glass trade. We have two. 11 total are European with 1 in Africa, and 3 in Asia. That’s a good example of as specialized production that cannot be upped by colonizing. Another example is Paper. Right now there are 39 out there. Many of them are in China. Europe has 14 of those, and nations like the Timurids and Bengal have many. We have three ourselves. You cannot add Paper to your Empire outside of targeting those provinces

Now there is one manufactured trade good for which this is an exception.

Chinaware.

Right now we have 23 Chinaware provinces in the world. However, there are some colonies in places like Taiwan, the Philippines, and the Indies that have the potential to be Chinaware making. So you could add some more. As of right now, that appears to be around 11. (You move to Trade Goods map, and then click on a province with that trade good , everything that has it lights up, and everything that could have it lights a different colors). These odds include 17% for Sakam on Taiwan, 8.9% in Bengkulu and 10% of Sumbawa. It’s unlikely you are going to hit it out of the park. And you may not want to. You didn’t come here for Incense or Tea or Coffee. You came here for Spices.

Great Powers

1. Andalusia
2. France
3. Turks
4. Austria
5. Russia
6. Timurids
7. Britain
8. Mamluks

See who’s out? Ming

4 Christian and 4 Muslim.

Abe Sargent 01-06-2019 02:45 PM

1 Mar, 1595 –

Whydah – 5 dev, Jungle, Dyes, Sunni, Andalusian, 0.40 made here, east of Gold Coast and next to Benin and Kong. It’s in the same state as my other holdings here. I order a Textile Manufactory here for the precious Dyes.

I know that this region of Africa is hard to colonize with it’s low development, Jungle and tropical making it hard, and large and angry teams of natives.

But the possibilities here of trade goods are nice.

Right now I am putting together a team to send my Luanda army to Bonny on the coast on the other side of Benin.

Here’s Bonny, just as good example, to drill down and unpack it:

4 dev
Tropical, Jungle
5000 angry natives

But…

28% Slaves
18% Tropical Wood
16% Ivory
14% Fish
12% Dyes
8% Naval Supplies

That means I have a 1 in four chance of hitting a home run with Dyes or ivory, at 4.0 value, and an almost 30% chance of the solid Slaves. Now there’s a shot that you are getting Wood/Supplies or Fish, and we have in Karoo, and these numbers shift a little for each place to reflect reality, but you don’t need high development to make this work.

Here is the current cash value, before my development of Whydah finishes, of the holdings from Beafada to Whydah, in order down the coast.

0.98
0.98
0.29
0.98
0.92
1.43
1.97
0.40

And that’s not bad. That means I am making around 8 gold monthly from the Guinea coast, and around 96 can annually, which is big.

21 Apr – My troops arrive in Bonny for my next colonist that comes free.

1 May –

Benguela – A natural harbor which I upgrade to a Entrepot for 200 gold, drylands, Slaves, 10 dev, sunni, Andalusian, in the same Angola state I already made, I order a Workshop here, and we are making 0.91 cash monthly.

22 Aug – Native Assimilation in Massachusetts

6 Jan, 1596 – I send my colonists from Cayenne to Bonny.

11 jan, - I slay the natives in Bonny.

8 Mar – We are the first to circumnavigate the globe and we get a ton of prestige and naval tradition

1 April – We convert Missisquoi, I order a Trade Station for it

1 Sept – Massachusetts with Tobacco!

1 Oct – No surprise, Luanda is going to be good for trading Slaves

I send my West Timor colonists to Ambon

14 Nov – We can enact a new government reform!

This is our highest level of reform possible

Here are my options:

Become a Republic. I did this with Athens in my last dynasty when I hit this final level of government reform This let’s you start over with more development and you can choose multiple new options up front

Become a Theocracy. Like the Republic, this would set us back a bit, but we could refresh ourselves as a true servant of Allah.

Create true Legislative Houses – The number of Admin polices we can have for free is increased by one

Absolute Control – This gives us a bunch of bonus absolutism, which is useful in the next Age.

The Age of Absolutism will start around 10 years after Global Trade is created so usually around 1610 or so, in around 15 years from now

Absolutism is a new mechanic that is created then, and like piety, legitimacy, power projection or prestige, it gives you bonuses as you have more of it.

They aren’t that big of a deal though.

I choose the legislative reform, and this will finish my governmental reform.

Our final government, we have:

Iqta Power Structure

Noble Privileges Curtailed

Centralized bureaucracy

Administrative clergy (Ulema used in admin roles)

A deliberative assembly from our general estates

The l’est est moi philosophy

2 Proper Legislative houses

Abe Sargent 01-06-2019 03:41 PM
