Werewolf LXXXII - Cops and Robbers (Day 3 Deadline 4 PM EST Thursday)
Changing up my theme a bit here. Overall, still a pretty basic game with a minor twist thrown in...
Background Welcome to First National Bank! Well, it's not so much a welcome as "YOU'RE SCREWED!" See, it was just before closing time, the busiest time of the day. 18 people were in the bank just short of closing time, two things happened. For one, some Robbers in the bank were JUST about to initiate a heist to steal all the cash and for two, the power in the entire city went out. The bank doors are locked, no one can get out. The safe is wide open. People are frazzled. The robbers decided to slink into the crowd as regular customers, but they are still there to accomplish their mission. But they couldn't completely meld in, one guy died in a shoot out with a now-dead security guard. He was dressed as a regular guy too, no one knew. RULES We will use a 22/2 system for the cycles. For 22 hours the bank will deliberate over who to lynch with a deadline of 1 PM EST. Then for the next 2 hours the night phase will run and everyone will do their night actions with a deadline of 3 PM EST. Each day you will vote for one person to get lynched. The player who receives the most votes will be killed. In the event of a tie a random result will be produced. Each night the Robbers will confer and submit one player they want to attack, and which Robber(s) will be committing the assault. Undetermined number of customers and robbers to start the game. Editing posts is forbidden. There will be no quoting of of PM's received from the game director. There will be no discussion of the game anywhere other than this thread. You may PM me at anytime for questions, or during the night phase with night actions. PM's between anyone else are forbidden. VOTING Votes for a player should be submitted in bold, for example: Vote The Jackal You may switch your vote with the following format: Unvote The Jackal Vote claphamsa ROLES Note: Not all roles are necessarily in the game. GOOD ROLES Customer - You are a regular customer of the bank, there to make a deposit. Each night you can either Protect Yourself, Protect the Money or Search for Money. You win a major victory when the Robbers are Dead, you're alive, and X% of the money is still in the bank. A minor one if they're dead and only one of the last two is true. Town Psychic - You're in the bank to deposit the cash from your Psychic biz down the street. Each night you can protect yourself or scan someone to know their exact role. You win a major victory when the Robbers are Dead, you're alive, and X% of the money is still in the bank. A minor one if they're dead and only one of the last two is true. The Cop - You're in the bank to take out some cash for a night of getting hammered. Each night you can Protect someone (to a better degree than a Customer), Protect the Money (to a better degree) or Search for Money. You cannot protect yourself (no good cop would) and you can't protect the same person back-to-back nights. Oh, and there are two of you, and you know who each other are (but can't PM or protect each other). You win a major victory when the Robbers are Dead, you're alive, and X% of the money is still in the bank. A minor one if they're dead and only one of the last two is true. The Boy - You're 11. There with your Dad to make a transaction. Being an 11-year-old boy has it's advantages. For one, you can Sneak Around at night tailing people to have a chance to see what they're up to. For two, you never listen to your Dad so you'll do this each night. It's your only action, and you can't protect yourself at all, since you are 11 and my left calf is stronger than you are. You win a major victory when the Robbers are Dead, you're alive, and X% of the money is still in the bank. A minor one if they're dead and only one fo the last two is true. Rich Guy - You are the richest customer in the bank, checking on your security box. As the richest person, you can sway the lynch vote to anyone you'd like. Each night you can either Protect Yourself, Protect the Money or Search for Money. You win a major victory when the Robbers are Dead, you're alive, and X% of the money is still in the bank. A minor one if they're dead and only one fo the last two is true. Ex-Con - You're an ex-con who is on the path to God and rightousness...for now. If attacked at night by the Robbers, you have a choice. You can join them or you can die. If you choose to die, the robbers will lose half of their cash. For all other intents and purposes, you are a Customer (actions/win conditions). BAD ROLES Robber - You are a crook who was in the midst of a heist. You want the money bad, but you also need to get out of the bank with it. Each night you can Make an Attack, Steal Some Cash, or Guard the stashes You win a major victory if you've achieved a 1:1 ratio with the Customers and have taken X% of the cash in the process. You win a Minor victory if you've only achieved the ratio and haven't taken enough Head Robber - The whole heist was your idea and you'll get the biggest split of the loot. If you get lynched, you can take any other player with you in the process. Each night you can Make an Attack, Steal Some Cash, or Guard the stashes You win a major victory if you've achieved a 1:1 ratio with the Customers and have taken X% of the cash in the process. You win a Minor victory if you've only achieved the ratio and haven't taken enough Evil Cyborg from the Future - You are an evil cyborg whose time-travel to this earth may have caused the power outage. You possess no abilities other than cowering in the corner calling out for your cyborg-momma. You're also grasping for breath since this Earth's air isn't as concentrated as the air you're used to and need to survive. You win merely by surviving to get the hell back to where you came from. You do not count in the end-game ratio. The Cash The bank started with $10,000,000 in it. The exact amount of each steal by a Robber, protection by a customer, search by a customer, etc is known only to me and is pre-determined. Also, the exact amount needed to achieve and major and minor victories is known only to me and is set at the moment. The Actions Here is a quick look at each action and it's result Protect Yourself (Customer/Psychic/Rich Guy) - If attacked, the odds slightly increase that you'll survive. You may still be knocked out for a day or two though (unable to vote or act at night). Protect the Money (Customer/Rich Guy) - If you do this, it will lessen the amount the Robbers will get that night and stash away. The more of you that do this, the better. Search for Money (Customer/Cop/Rich Guy) - You can search for the Robbers stash to recoup some of it and get it back to the bank. The more of you that do this, the better. The money will be hid multiple places. Scan Someone (Psychic) - You send me a name, I tell you exactly what their role is. Protect Someone (Cop) - If you do this and that person is attacked, they stand a better chance of surviving (even better than if they just protected themselves, and much better if they do as well). They can still be knocked out for a day or two though. Protect the Money (Cop) - Being a cop, you're better at this then some regular joe, so the amount taken will go down even more. Sneak Around (Boy) - You'll get a look at what they did that night. Sometimes it may be exact. Others it may be a partial idea (since searching for money can look like stalking someone to make an attack). You're 11, what can I say, shiny things still distract you sometimes. Make An Attack (Robber) - You attack someone with the intent to kill. Depending on how many of you attack and if there is any protection, you may or may not be successful. Note that the Robbers as a whole can only attack one person (so you can't have two robbers attacking two different people in one night). Steal Some Cash (Robber) - You slyly grab some cash out of the safe, the less people protecting, the more you'll get Guard the Stashes (Robber) - You'll keep an eye on the spots you've hidden some loot. The more of you that do this, the less chance someone can search and put some back in the bank. |

Okie doke folks, ready to rock on this one. We'll take signups until *at least* Tuesday at 9 AM EST. Presuming we have a decent enough amount of folks, I'll then send out roles with the first deadline being the Day one lynch deadline of 1 PM EST on Wednesday the 24th.
One quick note on timing, Friday will be a touch wacky for me as I'm not going to be at work and will be driving about 4 hours during the day. So we'll probably have a bit later deadline that day (like 5-6 PM / 7-8 PM EST) and then we'll have the customary over-the-weekend break until Monday's deadlines |
Quote:
I wonder what percentage of the games you've played have you been the first person to sign-up. |
I'll play. Neat theme.
|
Hands up! (I'm in).
|
Theme does sound really cool. If you think the game will be done before 10/6, then I am in.
|
in
|
Yeah PF, it should definitely be done by 10/6 (well, unless somehow we get a gigantic mass of people that would require like a 10-day cycle game)
I'll put you on for now, let me know if you need off. |
Thanks Heinz :)
|
I'm in.
|
I need to try to get back into playing so I'll give it a shot.
|
I'll play, but likely will have some days I completely will be quiet because of being busy with work.
|
I may also be more wuiet then usual, I start school this week.
|
wait.... is this a repeat? or did you run the ruelset on TSW?
|
I ran this game at TSW ;)

That being said, you'll all enjoy it. ;)
|
probably in, but can you elaborate on the deadline...i have never seen this one before.
for example, if the day cycle deadline is 1pm on Tuesday, is the night cycle deadline 3pm on Tuesday, or 3pm on Wednesday? |
3pm tuesday.
|
that way night actions have time to be put in....
|
so it is a 22 hour day phase and a 2 hour night phase...the rules post confused the crap out of me.
im in |
heinze is good at that!
|
Hrm, the 1pm dealines will make this tough. I'm usually on my way to work then, but I can check in prior to that and get a vote in.
What the hell. In like a back splinter. |
I'll play.
|
Quote:
Agreed - I assumed that he meant a 2 hour night cycle (especially since he said 22/2) and that it was just a typo, heh. |
My posts are more easily discerned when you're in my head.
But yeah, 22/2, just something I forgot to give the once-over when copying the ruleset. The other site I ran this on more typically had a full day for each phase. |
I'll jump in if there's room, if not just make me an alternate.
|
Definitely room left! You're in!
Sign-ups still open until 9 AM EST tomorrow, at which point I'll get roles sent out. First deadlines will be 1 PM EST on Wednesday (Day 1) and 3 PM EST on Wednesday (Night 1) |
like in if there is room
|
I can't play because of the deadline hours. It would be ok if the deadline was earlier, since I go to bed at 8 a.m. or so, so I'd miss 2 hours of craziness before the deadline.
|
Quote:
That should be BUT I'd miss 2 hours of craziness before the deadline. |
Sorry Schmidty, maybe next time. I figure whenever I set the hours (due to the fact that I only do WW at work) someone gets hosed.
|
Ok folks, just gotta look over some boxscores for an OOTP league then i'll get cracking on sending out roles.
Please no posting until I give the go ahead. Should be about 30ish minutes until I'm done. |
For reference, the PM each person will receive is going to nearly mirror the role description above.
|
The game is afoot! Please post/PM any questions.
Day One deadline is 1 PM EST on Wednesday 9/24 |
Received my PM and checking in.
|
checking in!
|
This should be fun.
|
Just a regular trip to the bank for me.
|
A banking we will go!
|
lets see whats going on !!!!!!!! woooo!
|
Just a regular ol' customer here.
|
Let's get things rolling.
vote saldana No one kills Connor MacLeod without reprocussions! |
Checking in, but not around much until later.
|
Checking in. Tied up in meetings all afternoon so I will check back this evening.
|
I'm here but Mrs Nark is about to commandeer the computer so I won't be able to say much until tomorrow.
Wondering if we should concentrate our early efforts on protecting ourselves or on protecting the loot. Obviously lives > money (well, depending on what sort of bank it is) but my impression was that protecting yourself didn't alter the odds that greatly. Maybe that's worth discussing (obviously no-one shoudl actually say what they are going to do). Also Jackal says that he's played a version of this game before, maybe he coud say how that played out. There. Discuss! Just in case you guys don't want to be posting "awfully quiet" posts throughout the day. :) |
Quote:
All of the win conditions center around lives.. For the bad guys it is getting to a 1:1 ratio, for good guys it is eliminating all of the bad guys. The cash only matters when trying to go for a bigger type of victory. The bad guy roles have the option to guard their stash, which means the is obviously a way for us to get cash back during the game if we choose wheras we can't get lives back during the game. So it seems pretty obvious which should be more of a priority for both us and them in our general scheme of thinking. |
Narc,
I played in that game too... It was the most one sided whooping ever in the history of WW. Dont remember what happend. but we didnt learn anything :) |
Checking in. Joe customer. more later.
|
Checking in now, more active once I get home.
|
checking in.'
I knew I should have gone with direct deposit |
checking in, still at work, be on later tonight.
|
Quote:
Wow, more of a whooping than Cronin's "draft" game? |
yeah, I wanna say the seer got lynched day one..... (not as sofisticated of a group there.)
|
Checking in. So there's the classic, minor/major victory argument going on huh? I'm a fan of shooting for the major victory, but Alan, in terms of the revocable nature of resources (lives v money) has a good point. But some balance is needed. I think I'll be more of a money guarder, but would say that guarding oneself should be the predominant action.
|
FYI, I'm gone for the day, returning at 9 AM EST tomorrow. Any questions posted/PM'd will be answered then.
|
So who do we lynch day 1 this time? and don;t say "RENDER" damnit ;)
|
Quote:
RENDER damnit |
VOTE RENDER
|
Ha, bad turn of events if your name is RendeR!
|
awesome cronin, awesome
|
PB, don't steal my thunder
|
:)
|
Customer here: I will protect myself every night.
|
I'm going to tend towards protecting myself but I'll be guarding the money on some nights.
|
Quote:
To be honest I don't even remember - part of that could be the delicious margaritas (they're really good clap), but I'd say our primary goal should be eliminating wolves over protecting the money, so people should tend towards protecting themselves. The thing is, there are a lot of people, so we're gonna have wildcards that throw the wolves curveballs either way - the impetus is on them to decide how forceful they want to be. And it's up to us to try and nail them as quick as possible with lynches. |
And we clearly have little to go on day 1, so here's a cheers to lady luck.
|
vote PurdueBrad
We needed another name in the mix. |
What I meant by wildcards in the post above is players that say one thing and do the other, or don't suggest their actions at all - it's what makes the wolves jobs hard in this game and that's good for us. When the player list gets smaller and the COT gets bigger that's when you start coordinating money protection.
|
I haven't played enough with The Jackal to pick up on anything so this is nothing more than a question. Is he usually this talkative?
|
Just trying to help, really. But other people are welcome to answer that question.
|
he can be talkative! but...
vote jackyl! something is amis in the chainsaw land! |
predictable
|
I have a question. If I guard myself and am guarded by one of the cops, do I get double protection?
We won't know of course, but it would be great to be guarded while guarding the loot. Or something.....just really looking at the rules for the first time. |
and actually that completely unreasonable vote is enough to make me change mine
unvote saldana vote clap hope you're the machine gun type |
Quote:
Seems like one of those things that's hard to plan early on unless the bodyguard role trusts the people that say they are guarding the loot on the first day. Wolves could easily say that, and then theyd be guarding a wolf. |
Vote Render.
he had to know this was coming after duking me 2 games ago. |
Quote:
im more of hate huricne type these days! |
vote st. cronin
that was just a low blow ;) |
VOTE CLAP
Way too many votes out there right now, so I gotta choose someone to jump on. Of course day 1 is a crapshoot, but voting for everyone doesn't tell us anything either :) |

There you go - they get an added protection bonus. |
Quote:
I can respect that but you've got to think that there are some people who can be pretty sure that they're not going to be targeted (people who have been drawing heat etc etc). I don't think it's smart to sweepingly say that everyone should try to protect themselves, you need to try and judge how likely you are to be targeted. (tough call I know). Now if that means the wolves start to target those people then that's all good as it means we're forcing the wolfies to attack people despite it not being their best play in a vanilla game. Also it is early in the game we have the most chance of keeping the loot-grabbing to a minimum, as it is an action that is effected by weight of numbers - people are always going to be able to protect themselves equally effectively throughout the game. Raw numbers help when you're protecting the cash. I think the cops, in particular, have an interesting decision to make early on. Do they protect a random person (who could be a wolf) or do they protect the money. |
5 hour dola!
When's Chief going to play again? |
I don't like any of the options right now. I really want to vote, but all choices are expressions of the harshness of D1. Have either Render or clap been killed off recently D1?
|
Its been 2-3 games for me. I cant speak to RendeR
|
Well, to be honest, barkeep, I don't think you have to vote for clap or RendeR just yet. I think creating a 3-way tie on 2 votes is just as valid as pushing for a two horse race at this stage. I'd probably raise an eyebrow at another candidate being introduced without as solid a reason as you can expect on day one but it's still pretty early days in terms of voting.
RendeR - st cronin (66), Lathum (84) Claphamsa - Jackal (82), Packer (87) PurdueBrad - EagleFan (75) Jackal - clap (79) st cronin - illini (86) 9 people left to vote. |
I have to give the Pre-ACT today so I'm not sure how much access I'll have until after school (although I'm hoping for lots so that I can stay awake).
vote The Jackal although, as usual and out of petty vindictiveness, I was tempted to vote EF! (and to think, I even rooted for your defense against my Steelers this past weekend. I mean, sure, I had the vested interest of having the D on my fantasy team but really, I rooted for them for you...really.) |
Giving tests is the best. you just sit there and glare.....
|
Quote:
Hehe, yeah, it's not quite so bad but 4 and a half hours of it in an non-air conditioned building is a bit much. So I'm hoping I've got the internet up there otherwise I'll be doing lots of glaring! |
Quote:
Chief needed a WW break, as he's changed up his schedule when he gets home from work now a bit which eats into his WW time. |
Hmm. It is tough to get a read on day 1 votes when they don't seem to have alot of reason behind them. Since PurdueBrad's vote for Jackal ended up speaking more about wanting to vote for someone else than actually doing so, I figured this would be a good place to start.
Vote PurdueBrad |
Quote:
I actually like giving tests the least. it feels like you could be doing something more constructive. |
