Werewolf LX - Dog Soldiers (Game over, wolves win)

This game is inspired by a very cool werewolf movie of the same name.

You are a group of soldiers on a field training exercise in the woods, when it turns out you are being hunted by a pack of werewolves. Some among you have clearly been turned - your radio equipment is sabotaged, and your sentries, effective at first, are now easily bypassed, and one of you is killed each night.

Players:

1. ntndeacon
2. Passacaglia (killed night 2, medic)
3. Schmidty (lynched day 3, medic)
4. path12 (killed night 4, duke)
5. Anxiety
6. RendeR (lynched day 4, ordinary soldier)
7. PurdueBrad (lynched day 2, wolf)
8. Chief Rum
9. Barkeep49 (lynched day 1, wolf)
10. AlanT (killed night 1, bodyguard)
11. jeheinz72 (killed night 3, ordinary soldier)
12. Thomkal

Rules: This game uses a 24 hour cycle. Deadline will be at 9pm Eastern Time, 7 pm Mountain Time.

Voting: All votes must be capitalized and bolded, and bracketed by a line of empty text, like this:

VOTE ST.CRONIN

Votes not in this format may be missed by me, as I have poor eyesight. In the event not properly formatted does not get counted, I will lose no sleep.

It is possible to vote

NO LYNCH

as well. If more players vote No Lynch than vote for any particular player, then there will be no lynch. Not voting is not the same thing as voting no lynch.

Roles
1. Medic (can discover if a player is wolf or human)
2. Medic who finished last in his class (thinks he's the seer, but gets a random result)
3. Bodyguard
4. Duke
5. Wolf enthusiast (wins with the wolves, but counts as a villager, is able to scan players to discover wolf/human, and also can duke once per game)

The wolves win if they achieve parity in numbers with the village. The village wins if they eliminate all the wolves.

Please don't hesitate to ask me any questions, either in thread or via pm. The first deadline will be Tuesday at 9:00 pm Eastern Time.

Barkeep49 11-12-2007 07:17 PM

Do we learn if it was the medic of fake medic upon death?

st.cronin 11-12-2007 07:23 PM

Here is the pm which all soldiers have been sent:

Quote:

You are a soldier. Here is the game thread:

http://www.operationsports.com/fofc/...ad.php?t=62060

Your goal is to eliminate the wolves.

Good luck!

Special roles and wolves obviously get different messages.

A good question: The answer is no. All roles will be revealed upon death, but there will be no differentiation between the "seer" and the "fake seer."

Thomkal 11-12-2007 07:32 PM

Just a scared soldier here. And just a heads up that Wednesday is my birthday and I may only have short periods of time to participate over the next couple days as a result. (having a party with all that entails).

Passacaglia 11-12-2007 08:00 PM

So are we all dogs?

RendeR 11-12-2007 08:09 PM

Bow-farking-WOW dude, Ground Poundin Puppy checkin' in.

Schmidty 11-12-2007 08:23 PM

I'm here and am a soldier.

Abe Sargent 11-12-2007 08:25 PM

Bonjour

Alan T 11-12-2007 08:43 PM

I'm here, checking in. I'm driving down to Connecticut tommorrow afternoon, so will be gone most of the day. I'll check in and place a vote in the morning though before I go.

path12 11-12-2007 10:17 PM

Soldier checking in.

Chief Rum 11-13-2007 01:31 AM

Doggy dog in da house.

I'll be out most of the day tomorrow, but will be around before deadline.

Chief Rum 11-13-2007 01:32 AM

So, wait, Render is already a known wolf?!?

Not that I know of. He checked in as a Dog. See game title.

Passacaglia 11-13-2007 06:55 AM

In the list of players, it says (wolf) by Render's name. I think cronin is just joking around with him.

Thomkal 11-13-2007 07:05 AM

Well going to put in a vote now, since I may not be around much today. This is a just for fun vote that will move if people try to pile on.

VOTE RENDER

for making me play a naughty little girl in my first game back to Werewolf. :)

PurdueBrad 11-13-2007 07:11 AM

Hey all, checking in. Soldier here, but aren't we all?

At the same time though, wouldn't it be the best way to hide a wolf by hiding him in the wide open? For now, I'll follow along with this idea until something better comes along:

vote Render

Alan T 11-13-2007 07:45 AM

I don't know.. it almost seemed too obviously out there. I can't imagine that Cronin would purposely put wolf next to Render if he really was a wolf. I'm guessing it is just giving him a hard time as Render every game says to lynch Cronin first day.

I was going to vote for the first person who voted for Render, but it ended up being Thomkal and I felt a bit bad since Thomkal had an early exit last game too... so I'll go with the next best.. Also for being a pileon vote:

Vote PurdueBrad

jeheinz72 11-13-2007 07:46 AM

Just soldierin' on over here. I think it's a touch early to cast a vote and are we sure voting No Lynch isn't a better option? I can see the good and the bad of it, I don't honestly know.

Cronin is a big fan of day 1 no lynches, and in at least the last game he ran, it seemed to benefit the village to vote no lynch. This of course opens the age old debate of whather no lynch is good or not.

I usually take it game by game depending on what type of game and what type of roles are out there.. in a game that is wide open with tons of information, tons of roles it seems to benefit the village to wait on the lynch so those roles have more time to discern the information.. This game not only has a bad guy duke ability, has a false seer as well which means the information that is learned might be less in coming, and slower.

I'm not against a no lynch decision per say, but at least in this game, I see less benefit from it than I might in other games. This game just has only 12 players and with the bad guy duke role, it could be over very fast. So wasting a day could put us behind the 8 ball before we have any vote history.

PurdueBrad 11-13-2007 08:00 AM

Alan, I agree. I used to think that day one was little more than a mash up of votes with nothing more than random wild guesses but after discussion in previous games, I think it is better to get the vote record out there in order to make some sort of examination of the day's action.

PurdueBrad 11-13-2007 08:01 AM

And Alan, I'm simply on Render because from the time I saw the list I thought it would be a clever way to hide a wolf and make people write Render off as being good but can and will change if given something better.

That makes some sense, I think you're right that the information we would glean overnight is less valuable in this game than say your average game.

Now, what about # of wolves. 12 people, so I'd guess the options would be

1) 2 wolves + enthusiast
2) 3 wolves and no enthusiast
3) 3 wolves + enthusiast

My guess would be #1 as it's less likely that cronin would have so few roles and not use one and #3 would just seem like an impossible road for us.

Really though? Do you think cronin would do that? I think that would go against my theory in the post above, he certainly wouldn't "sell out" one of only two wolves, kinda makes the game pointless.

I think it has to be option 1. Any more than that would be pretty impossible.

Schmidty 11-13-2007 08:14 AM

I get out of work in about an hour, and won't be around until 4 p.m. pst. My wife got a friend to watch our daughter, so I can sleep while my wife is at work and I definitely want to take full advantage of the rare treat of uninterrupted sleep. It's been a stressful day and a half with the whole storm-killing-our-house-thing.

Of course, that means I won't be able to fall asleep, as usual, and it will be a big waste. :(

I guess, but like I said, the best place to hide a wolf would be in the wide-open. It's kept a few from considering it which does mean that it could work. But frankly, for me, it's a day one vote (everyone knows how much I enjoy these  ) so it's the best I have to go on so far.

PurdueBrad 11-13-2007 08:23 AM

Sorry to hear about your house Schmidty, I hadn't heard.

Passacaglia 11-13-2007 08:39 AM

For the record, it said wolf by RendeR's name *way* before signups were finished. I'm sure there's no way cronin would decide that RendeR is a wolf before that -- it really hurts the spirit of the game. I've got my eye on those who voted RendeR.

VOTE NO LYNCH

I think you all know where I stand on that issue.

Pass, I realize it said wolf next to his name at the time I signed up for the game but like I said, it would be a very clever way to hide a wolf. And having played with Cronin a couple times, he is fairly clever. Since I'm in the minority here though, I'll

unvote Render

But why would Cronin want to be clever? Maybe I'm not 100% familiar with the role of GM, but I'd think his goal is for a fun game with some cool twists thrown in, not to necessarily have one side win over another.

PurdueBrad 11-13-2007 10:06 AM

True Jeheinz, which is ultimately the reason I removed my vote. The intent wouldn't/shouldn't be there to help disguise a wolf.

st.cronin 11-13-2007 10:15 AM

My apologies, that was a joke in the sign up thread, made before random.org was consulted, that got cut and pasted.

If you check the last time I edited that post, I think you'll see it was before this thread was created - so nothing should be read into that.

Its ok, at least it gave us something additional for a day 1 discussion!

PurdueBrad 11-13-2007 10:23 AM

Yeah, made for more interesting day one discussion than usual.

st.cronin 11-13-2007 10:26 AM

Slight problem, guys. One of the "wolves" made a goof on one of his pms, and cced a villager.

I'm re-rolling the roles, making a couple of behind the scenes changes, and re-starting the game. We'll stick with this thread and deadline.

Passacaglia 11-13-2007 10:29 AM

doh

Passacaglia 11-13-2007 10:30 AM

So were the wolves also fooled into thinking that RendeR was a wolf? :)

PurdueBrad 11-13-2007 10:33 AM

Damn, wish they would've cc'ed me! Ha, that's funny.

That would have been understandable, but that's not what happened.

Alan T 11-13-2007 10:35 AM

So just for fun, who were the wolves before the re-roll? :)

st.cronin 11-13-2007 10:39 AM

pms sent, game begins NOW

Alan T 11-13-2007 10:40 AM

Ok, well I was a villager before, am still a villager, still feel the way I do about lynch/no-lynch (where I am not hard-set, but leaning to lynch), and will just go back with my previous vote. This time for no reason other than its likely just as good as it was before :)

Vote Purdue Brad

First roll came out:

wolves: ntndeacon, Passacaglia, Barkeep49

Real Seer: PurdueBrad

Fake Seer: Alan T

Duke: Path12

Wolf Enthusiast: Chief Rum

Bodyguard: jeheinz72

Normal soldiers: Schmidty, Anxiety, RendeR, Thomkal

jeheinz72 11-13-2007 10:42 AM

The more things change, the more they stay the same, still a Villager. No need to vote for me yet though...

st.cronin 11-13-2007 10:42 AM

I made a couple of changes behind the scenes, as well - anything that was in an initial pm that was not in the rules has been changed.

Passacaglia 11-13-2007 10:45 AM

So who sent the faulty PM? Wasn't me.

Villager this time.

Passacaglia 11-13-2007 10:50 AM

My next guess is that the PM was sent to path instead of me.

Passacaglia 11-13-2007 10:51 AM

Never mind. I guess it was easy to figure out, since I received the PM that was CCed. Duh.

st.cronin 11-13-2007 10:55 AM

:)

I'm just glad it happened day 1, instead of about day 4 the last time something like this happened in one of my games.

PurdueBrad 11-13-2007 10:56 AM

Still a villager, just like everybody else.

For the record, we would've had an awesome start last game as the two people I was ready to scan were Pass and Chief Rum. Man, hope the luck carries over!

Barkeep49 11-13-2007 11:15 AM

FTR it was me who made the bonehead move. Somehow I read the name NTN and read Thomkal. Since they're so similar I'm sure everyone can understand how I made that mistake. My apologies to everyone who had a role they were interested in, and especially cronin.

I won't deny cronin's cleverness, but aren't roles usually decided pretty much at random?

I wondered why I was getting a PM from Barkeep since I was (and am again now) a soldier. I frantically read through the rules looking for the role that allowed soliders to communicate with each other lol. Thought that might have given us a bit of advantage with an instant safe group, but hey I was ok with that. :)

No reason to change my vote at this point. I'm back from errands but will still not be able to post much till this evening most likely.

jeheinz72 11-13-2007 01:15 PM

He hasn't checked in, nothing more, nothing less. If he does before I split for the day, I'll likely change it.

I think you need to re-place your vote. My understanding is the game restarted and earlier votes don't count. I might be wrong on that, but better safe than sorry.

Thomkal 11-13-2007 01:25 PM

Ah thanks Alan. Guess I'll vote for someone else then since the novelty of voting for Render has worn off. ;)

Passacaglia 11-13-2007 01:32 PM

I hope that when RendeR does show up, all he says is, "ARF! ARF!"

RendeR 11-13-2007 01:51 PM

"ARRROOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo"

RendeR 11-13-2007 01:52 PM

And i did check in on page one, silly people.

"Ain't nuttin but a dirty daog mon, give me my un and me bombs and I'l go out akillin' for's yee"

Thats my plan at this point. I went through all the previous WW games and didn't see that theme used yet so I was a bit shocked but quite thrilled that I could run with that =)

Alan T 11-13-2007 02:41 PM

Well, I'm heading out to drive to Connecticut in a few minutes, so won't be back until later tonight. Don't know if i will be back before deadline.

Odds are good that he isn't the seer. So that is where iwill go for a day one vote.

PurdueBrad 11-13-2007 03:51 PM

Well, not a big fan of Alan leaving a vote on me and then leaving but that's cool. That'll likely draw a vote from me on him w/o any better reason either.

vote Alan T.

Also, I'm not out, particularly if the COD4 server keeps acting up. I'll be on here and there.

I have to vote before I head away to shop and eat and frolic. Not necessarily in that order. May not be back until after lynch, who knows?

Random Day One Vote. Hmm. Who is Suspicious? PurdueBrad was suspicious in the first iteration of Day One, but that;s over and he was a seer anyway.

I'll vote one of my fellow wolves in last game. Nothig more or less than that.

I will grant you it is a specious argument. However it makes me feel less likely to hit the seer, and for a day one random vote, I see this false reasoning as good a reason as any other. :)

Let me guess -- on Day 2, you're going to hit me with the extension of this false reasoning, that you're less likely to be a wolf? :)

Bitterness aside, I'm willing to narrow it down some.

UNVOTE RENDER
VOTE PURDUE

I'm going to be gone soon and will be out until after deadline most likely.

But I would have duked the kill over to you, and then fake revealed as the seer. :P

RendeR 11-13-2007 06:27 PM

VOTE ALAN T

Lets make this a two horse race.

VOTE CHIEF RUM

why? because I never can figure out whether he's good or evil in these silly games. :)

Thomkal, I am ALWAYS evil!

Oh wait, you mean in WW terms? Well, that's random.

What's the case against Purdue, if there is any?

Odds say he probably didn't ge6t re-rolled the seer.

And before anyone suggests maybe cronin just said he re-rolled the roles, but actually didn't, that's not the case, as I am not the wolf lover this time around. Unfortunately--it seemed like a heck of a role to play.

I will say this, depending on how much cronin changed in the role, we should be very serious about finding the wolf lover. That is a powerful role in the hands of someone crafty.

Chief Rum 11-13-2007 06:31 PM

VOTE BARKEEP

I just gotta this time. That was a cool role he cost me.

I'm not ready to choose between PurdueBrad and Alan yet.

Well I am back early from Connecticut. I will vote to save myself today, but then look very suspiciously at all of the people who piled on me after I left for the day. They could have easily voted for me earlier while I was here with time to defend myself, but instead took the cheap way out to throw a vote to try to off me while I was gone.

Very wolfish.

I think you already have voted to save yourself. Anyway, I don't really see voting for you while you were gone as necessarily a wolfish move.

The odds are the same as anyone else. This argument gives no reason to vote for PB over anyone else. Odds are most of us aren't the seer.

PurdueBrad 11-13-2007 07:03 PM

Actually Alan, I thought the seeming hit and run vote was kind of wolfish given no reason except the first game in which I was seer as well.

PurdueBrad 11-13-2007 07:03 PM

I have no reason to vote for you other than that and am actually happy to move to a different candidate.

Alan, this is the post that bothers me now. You're a veteran player, have no real reason to vote for me, and then fault others for the same reasoning. Nobody had a reason to vote for you earlier UNTIL you placed a bad vote on me. At least that is IMHO (and probably biased opinion as well).
