Really enjoying this season of The Last Of Us. About 4 episodes in and so far really great stuff.

Edward64 06-24-2025 07:47 AM

About halfway through "The Agency" s1 (Paramount). About CIA out of London, has about 3 plot lines spanning Eastern Europe & Africa.

Has a pretty good cast.

Michael Fassbender (Alien prequels)
Richard Gere
Katherine Waterston (Fantastic Beasts)

New Dexter series on Paramount

I've noticed that Max is now showing unskippable ads for their own shows during ad breaks, but not marking them as ads. So they'll show a couple of regular ads that count down to zero, then show an ad for their own show that I guess doesn't count as an ad.

These things just keep giving less value for the price.

RainMaker 06-24-2025 06:38 PM

I get so angry when a streaming service runs an ad for their own stuff. Like just feature it on your menu or something.

Interesting YT channel that follows up on what happened after the "karen" videos

First season the The Bear was awesome. Now it seems like they are trying to win emmys.

GrantDawg 06-30-2025 07:30 PM

The Rotten Tomatoes score is like a downward spiral. Happens with some prestige type shows. They start thinking too much of themselves.

Watched the Paul Reubens/Pee-wee Herman documentary, "Pee-wee as Himself". Absolutely excellent. I think it's on HBO Max in the States. I didn't realize how many of the people that were on Pee-wee's Playhouse went on to do much bigger things.

I haven't watched yet, but I know he was connected to so many talented people. Like his college roommate was David Hasselhof.

GrantDawg 07-04-2025 04:42 PM

Doing our annual rewatch of "John Adams" over the holiday weekend. It really is hard to think of a better cast show than this one.

I’ve just discovered a show called parking wars and it’s literally people yelling at parking enforcement officers for giving them tickets. More often than not the people are standing next to there cars with a no parking sign in clear view.

Edward64 07-16-2025 08:07 AM

Hulu's Paradise is pretty entertaining so far (through ep3). Already renewed for s2 so that's someone to look forward to.

It starts off with secret service agents guarding an ex-president but then there's a reveal and then the fun begins.

EDIT: just finished s1.

If you like apocalyptic shows, you'd like ep 7 "The Day". I've seen variations of it but IMO this episode portrays it the best.

Ksyrup 07-16-2025 08:12 AM

After months, we finally finished Ripper Street. I'm not sure what the opposite of binge-watching is, but that's me. Anyway, I can't deny it was marvelously acted and the scenery, costumes, etc., we're well done. I just wish the show had stayed true to its start and been a bit more formulaic and not gotten subsumed by the myriad of plots that turned it into a "tail wags the dog" show. I prefer overly complicated and ornate in my music, but not my TV.

Where are they filming next? We still haven't watched the Canada season, but I read it wasn't very good.

Charlotte and Greenville.

I'm trying to slog thru True Detective Season 4 but it's rough. Got 1 & a half eps left. Started out interesting but I'm not sure any character has changed facial expressions through out the whole fucking season.

Watched the first season and still haven't watched any beyond that. While the cast for Season 2 looks great (and I love Rachel McAdams), the reviews were hit and miss. The reviews bounced back for Season 3.

Edward64 08-07-2025 07:59 AM

Binge watched "The Leftovers" the past several days. s1 was the best; s2 dragged on; s3 started off strong, then dragged on but last 2 episodes was great, the finale was bittersweet.

Overall, some BS episodes but worth the watch.

Ghost Econ 08-07-2025 01:45 PM

So Disney is closing the Hulu app and moving it fully to the Disney+ app. But you'll have to have 2 subscriptions to access everything in the new app or could just have one for either service.

It's like executives just keep getting dumber and dumber.

Ksyrup 08-10-2025 10:29 AM

Watched the first 3 episodes of Death Valley on BritBox and wow, what a show. Perfect British murder mystery - very witty and funny, with 2 quirky characters. Highly recommended. Sad there are only 6 episodes but I saw it's already been renewed for season 2.

Edward64 08-15-2025 12:24 PM

Alien Earth

I know it's been getting great reviews but didn't rise to that level for me. I like the overall plot and the "hybrid", but there's some pretty weak scenes in there.

Regardless, I'll still watch it (because streaming picking's are slim right now) and I really hope it gets better.

I re-watched Prey to get ready for this and Prey was so much better IMO.

An update on "There Can Only Be One". Supposedly a theatrical release first but then Prime.

Quote:

Karen Gillan has joined the sword-swinging cast of Highlander, Amazon MGM’s remake of the 1980s cult classic.

Henry Cavill is leading the cast that includes Russell Crowe, Dave Bautista, and Marisa Abela.

The action fantasy, which hails from Amazon MGM’s United Artists banner, is being directed by Chad Stahelski and is slated for a theatrical release. Principal photography is due to begin at the end of September.
Quote:

In the remake, Cavill is playing MacLeod while Crowe is Ramirez. Bautista is the savage warrior named The Kurgen while Industry actress Marisa Abela also has a leading role.

Initial thought is that Cavill is too muscular for MacLeod, and Crowe isn't svelte enough for Ramirez. But I'll still watch it.

It really was a good movie to choose for a remake. The original still stands up pretty well, but there was some uneven parts to the story. I think you can get grittier and deeper in a remake.

I get they ate alot of protein back then but heck, they definitely didn't have steroids or creatine :)

Fun movie, hope its halfway decent. Seems to be a step-down for Cavill though (from Witcher).

I watched K-Pop Demon Hunters last night and really enjoyed it. I'm by no means a K-Pop fan but the songs were well done. But what really impressed me was the rest: the story, the animation, and the humour were all quite good.

My kids and all their friends are obsessed with this. They make me listen to the songs in the car and mase me watch it the other day. Dumbest thing I ever saw. Other than a few catchy songs the longest two hours of my life.

RainMaker 08-24-2025 10:25 AM

Is anyone else watching Chief of War? Pretty big budget show from Apple and really good. Guess it is historically accurate too. Kind of surprised by the lack of buzz but maybe subtitles turn off audiences.

Ghost Econ 09-04-2025 08:40 AM

FYI, Paramount plus is having a sale. $30 for a year with ads and 1080p, but you do get soccer and your local NFL games. $60 for no ads, 4k and your local CBS. I'm cheap so I got the lower tier. My amex also had $13 back for a Paramount payment, so it's under $20 with tax for me.

Honestly, I have the various subscriptions but just stream through stremio or Kodi to avoid ads. I figure they're getting my money each month, they don't care if I actually watch anything.

Mrs. A and I are enjoying Poker Face on Peacock.

Feels different, which is nice and refreshing

Ksyrup 09-04-2025 12:32 PM

Poker Face is great. A clear homage to Columbo.

That said, we just started season 2 and episode 1 was ... interesting. Although episode 2 was better. I can understand the complaints about season 2 now that I'm watching it. Episode 1 was like some sort of cross between Columbo and a Looney Tunes cartoon. Particularly since Charlie's character often acts and sounds like Bugs Bunny.

GrantDawg 09-07-2025 09:10 AM

We watched "The Paper" on Peacock this week. I liked it. It gave me "The Office" nostalgia, without it being "The Office." They had fun little call backs to the original, but nothing over the top (beyond Oscar being there. And they did make that make sense in the set up). My favorite was when Oscar said "You miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take. A great man once said that.....and some idiot."

Lathum 09-08-2025 08:47 PM

Unknown Number on Netflix is fucking nuts

JPhillips 09-08-2025 08:55 PM

Watching it now and... yeah.

That poor girl is so broken.

JPhillips 09-08-2025 10:47 PM

At some point in the next few years she's going to realize what really happened and then have to come to terms with all of it.

GrantDawg 09-18-2025 07:56 PM

We picked up" Apple Tv" to see some of the shows we have been missing and catch up on "The Morning Show". So far we binged "The Studio" and "Stick". "The Studio" lived up to the hype. There were episodes in that season which are instant classics. The Eon Howard episode floored me. Then the final two wpisodes where just a full on romp.
"Stick" was a bit formulatic, but decent. Sports shows tend to be more predictable, except maybe " Ted Lasso". It was worth the watch.

Lathum 09-18-2025 09:59 PM

Morning show is good. I loved the Studio and was really happy to see Rogan get awards and such. If you liked the Studio I highly recommend Shrinking, its fantastic.

Lathum 09-18-2025 10:22 PM

We're binging Running Point. It is really fun.

Definitely going to get to Shrinking. The Morning Show's new season was the main reason we subbed.

Kodos 09-19-2025 04:54 PM

Shrinking is great.

JPhillips 09-19-2025 06:09 PM

The Studio is the kind of old school farce that just doesn't get done very often. Really good.
