Jury awards $3 million in man's sex death *| ajc.com
A Gwinnett County jury on Tuesday awarded $3 million in a medical malpractice lawsuit to survivors of a 31-year-old husband and father of two who died while having sex one day before he was scheduled to have a heart stress test. The unusual lawsuit arose after the Lawrenceville man died on March 12, 2009, while engaging in a threesome with a friend and a woman who was not his wife. It was not immediately clear in the verdict whether the patient's wife or his two sons stand to benefit from the judgement. Plaintiff's lawyers Rod Edmond and Tricia Hoffler, who represented the estate of William Martinez, argued that a doctor at Cardiovascular Group in Lawrenceville failed to take a proper medical history when Martinez consulted him about chest pains that were radiating into his arm. That appointment occurred a week before Martinez died. Martinez had high blood pressure and other tests showed he was at high risk of having clogged heart arteries. The attending cardiologist, Dr. Sreenivasulu Gangasani, scheduled a stress test for eight days later, but failed to inform the patient to stop all physical activity until the test was completed... |

I was amazed at how this face attacker was getting a lot of "he was a sweet guy" defenses in the news. Is it denial for a family member to state that the guy was screwed up? Not saying he deserved to die, but he was eating someone's face and not complying with the officer.
Scarily, the Seattle spree killer unnerved me because my sister in law lives in Seattle. I had my wife call her to make sure she was okay and the incidents happened a block from her, and it's a path she walks to work an hour after the event occurred. The father of that guy stated that his son was "disgruntled", which I think is an understatement but at least seems a more truthful statement. |

It obviously has a lot of people rattled around here. Gun violence has been out of control recently. 21 shooting deaths alone this year, tying all of last year. IMO it isn't a coincidence that it coincides with all the federal investigations surrounding the police force. If you remove the police ability to do their jobs for fear of backlash from the NAACP, ACLU, etc... this is what you get. Hope the beeding hearts are happy. All the while our mayor tries to find more ways to build bike paths. I used to go to school in that area, and while it can ba a bit sketchy certainly not the type of area you would expect this to happen. Car jackings also don't happen around here, allthough it sounds like the vicim was resisting giving up her car, which IMO isn't a smart move. Someone demands your car you give it to them unless your children are in the back of it. |

Not sure I disagree with the jury. If the doctor indeed didn't tell the man to stop all physical activity and he waited 8 days to give the test I think there is some liability on the doctor. Who the man was having sex with is irrelivant |

This past season of Intervention had a kid who was addicted to "bath salts" - a former contestant on Endurance, the kid version of Survivor - and that was one of the scariest eps I've seen of that show. The dude had little memory left, was hallucinating and paranoid, etc. He'd talk to himself and to animals, climb walls inside the house and up on the roof, just crazy shit. And he'd only been addicted for like 6 months. I'm sure he was a decent kid before all that, too. |

Funny Story. I knew a guy who stayed in the same building as me this year and according to his roommate this guy had the habit of doing the same thing. So the roommate tells the guy he has guest coming over (i'm guessing to let him know not to rub one out while they are there or do it before) and the roommate apparently forgot... well you can imagine the rest. Needlessly to say for the rest of the semester he was not getting any handshakes. Lol. Got so bad that we had a guest speaker come to speak and he went to shake the guys hand and got a pat on the back. I think he might be transferring. Not sure how he found time to consistently masturbate in school though. |

Bath salts are some really scary stuff. There was a high school kid here who jumped out of a tree, broke many bones. Also, I read where some woman was walking down the middle of the road with a towel and talking to it like it was her baby. They were selling it here where I live and they finally banned it and shut down the shop selling it. The crazy part is, they will just figure out another way around the law and it will be back out there under some different name. |

Def Leppard Recording 'Forgeries' of Old Hits To Spite Label
Def Leppard got screwed over by Universal Music on compensation for its digital downloads and refuses to have anything to do with them until they pay the band a fair share of the money from iTunes, the Amazon MP3 store, and other digital distribution systems. In order to cut the label out of its earnings, the band has gone back to the studio to re-record its most popular tunes, producing what it calls "forgeries" -- note for note reproductions of the original studio cuts. The band can do this because of "compulsory licensing," which allows anyone to record and sell any song, on payment of a set royalty. But it's surprisingly hard to reproduce decades-old recordings, as Gary Graff writes for Billboard: Quote:

Couple thoughts: (1) This is from a UK newspaper, so I am sure that it just reinforces their stereotypes of what NASCAR watching Americans are like. (2) It is a federal crime to keep collecting benefits from a deceased spouse. But I think that "I kept the body around" should be an affirmative defense. |

Man takes baby to meet with prostitute - WTVM.com-Columbus, GA News Weather & Sports
Tuscaloosa, AL (WTVM) - A man in Tuscaloosa may be charged with child endangerment after taking along his nine month old son during a meeting with a prostitute. Police in Tuscaloosa County said the 29-year-old man took the baby with him to meet the woman at a motel because he didn't have anyone to babysit. Once inside the motel room, another man entered and a fight broke out. Shots were fired while the baby was in the room, and a bullet grazed the father's head. "The child was on the bed, he picked the child up, tried to leave, that's when he was shot at," said Captain Loyd Baker of the Tuscaloosa Police. Hospital workers contacted police after the man sought treatment. The child was taken into protective custody. |
Man sucks woman's toe at Walmart, bolts from store - WTVM.com-Columbus, GA News Weather & Sports
GROVETOWN, Ga. (AP) - A woman says a man claiming to be with a TV show sucked her toe inside an east Georgia Walmart after claiming everything she purchased that day would be free if she complied with the unusual request. The Augusta Chronicle reports that the woman called sheriff's deputies Tuesday to describe the bizarre encounter in the Grovetown store, west of Augusta. Columbia County sheriff's reports say the man asked the 18-year-old if her toenails were painted, whether she'd watched America's Funniest Home Videos and said he was with the show. Authorities say he asked if he could kiss her foot as part of the prank, then started sucking on her big toe. The woman said she screamed, the man said "it tasted so good, though" and then ran from the Walmart. |

Okay, I had found this. When you said "nothing more than the AFA does" I took it to mean the exact same or very similar tactic. I am generally supportive of the AFA, and was concerned that they were employing tactics which are on the odd side (at best). Personally, however, I wouldn't put the actions you cited in the same category as those claimed in the Scientology article. As an aside (not a slam at you), I tend to find most wikipedia articles touching on politics or religion to have a "tone", either pro or con to the subject at hand, and don't trust them to be unbiased. Edit: trying to disagree without being confrontational and forgot to thank you for taking the time to respond. Thanks. |

None at all taken. I remember more of their clout was wielded in ways I disagree with in the 80s and 90s when they tried to get a lot of things taken off the air that disagreed with their point of view. That was a lot more problematic back when that was the primary medium for people. It's one thing to say "I don't like sex/violence on tv"- that's a great exercise of free speech. But to organize boycots of those who expressed viewpoints who disagreed and try to silence dissent- that I didn't like. SI |
