Dola,

I've been inspired to do yet another song. This time to U2's One:

Quote:

Is it getting better
Or is it still a crappy game
Will it make it easier on you now
You got some bids on eBay?
You say...

One run
To the right
Down with one knee
Indoors at night
One run
We get to design it
Leaves you guessing if you
Don't have the framerate for it

Did he disappoint you
With the NFL style rules he left out
You act like you never scored a rouge
And you want the game to go without
Well it's...

Too late
Tonight
To fix the code and make it right
Football is one, but we're not the same
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other
One...

Have you come here for a bug status?
Have you come to report an AI that's dead?
Have you come here design a snappy uniform
For the man-Barbies you have led?

Did we ask for too much?
Or not a lot?
Five years later
This is all we got
We're one
But we're not for this game
Well we
Hurt each other
Then we post it again

He says:
Use a faster computer
Design some more plays
Use a faster computer
I can't be responsible for delays
You ask me for a frame rate
But the game makes my skin crawl
And I can't be relying on
The stats I've got

When all you got is
One run
One yard
One sack
By your backup punter too
One line
With each number
Rushes
Receptions
One line
But it's not the same
It's got
Fixed fields
Variable fields

One

Wow... brilliant.

Your computer does not meet the minimum requirements for FPS for their website to display properly. You might want to stick to calling running plays for a while. :)

Dammit, I don't want to spend $400 more on a video card, but I guess I have no choice. Thanks for the heads up, I thought something was wrong with the site, but it is clearly on my end. :D

Antmeister 06-06-2006 06:55 PM

Sorry, but this made me laugh. 2 years ago, some guy on another forum, held a contest to win a copy of Maximum Football. Whoever came up with the best design would win. Almost a year after this announcement, Ryan_B is declared the winner, but the following posts made me laugh. Pay attention to the dates.

Congrats on winning the game, we only had 3 entries they were all real good. Please PM me your information. Since you live in Europe I believe a download is the only way to go with you getting the game.

The first time he is announced winner, the game isn't even out. But apparently this guy doesn't even want the game for free.

SunDevil 06-06-2006 07:53 PM

The real people who need to be charged are the people who actually tell someone in this thread in JUNE that the game is worth the money. Of course Puresim is $10.00 cheaper and has a competent developer. But I could see where people would choose the football game.... I mean really you should just have as one of the game requirements is a working copy of PhotoShop.

Guess what arrived in my mailbox today????

I've played one quarter of one game, and I can report to you that this game is as bad as we've all hoped.

In the first quarter alone, I saw a delay of game penalty assessed three different ways (all three were on me, by the way, and all were on defense--I didn't call a play in time). The first time, my opponent got the five yards correctly, but instead of 1st and five, it became 1st and 25. The second time, it was second down, and my opponent got the five yards (which would have given him the first down). He got the first down, and as a bonus (or maybe to make up for last time) he got it as 1st and 5. The third time was the charm as it was actually assessed correctly.

Other early gems:
--the holder on field goals sets up a full two yards behind the long snapper. How every kick doesn't hit the snapper squarely in the ass, I don't know.
--early returns on the AI is that it is terrible (though, I'm sure this is just a function of my not having downloaded the non-default playbooks). In fooling around with the maximum customizability, I made it a three down game. The AI never adjusted in its four possessions and went for it on third down and long twice from inside its own 20. Awesome.
--I'm sure my framerate is to blame for this one, but the computer completed 3 passes out of 9 attempts. Two of the completions were batted by my safety into the receiver's hands.
--I'm sure this is also the fault of my framerate, but players consistently bump into one another going from the huddle to the formation. It's kind of cool actually, as it looks like some sort of choreographed electric slide.

I can't wait to set up a league sometime this weekend and get into how bad it really is.

By far the best $9 I've ever spent on a video game. I'm grinning from ear to ear.

Great news, digamma! Maximum Football is BACK!!

I'm surprised about the AI going for it on 3rd down. You'd think that with the emphasis on Canadian Football, the AI would punt on 3rd down, even if you're playing with 4 downs.

digamma...please make it a "serious" dynasty though, and let us all poke the holes in it. the UIC of it trying to be a serious dynasty would cause mass hysterical laughter.

Both teams have the same helmet? Maybe there was a bug with the teleportation feature, where someone transmogrified into the exact location of another player.

Dear god Jim...he's transmogrified.

digamma, I know it may be painful to play the game and attempt to write a dynasty, but you gotta do it. We are counting on you. :)

SunDevil 06-15-2006 02:41 PM

It's always good to see when the uniform designers have picked up the torch and create new uniforms that live up to the standard and the 7 year tradition of Maximum Football.

Not just that, but im assuming someone was tackled, I assume the redshirts had the ball (is there a ball in this version of the game?) It looks like whiteshirt is playing dominoes with the other team.

So what is your point? For that particular customer the game is what he wants. Who are you to ridicule the guy for it? Perhaps he is one of 10 people in the world that loves the game but if the game is fun for him personally then good for him.

FYI,

You could either combined both posts into one, or you could of you used a "dola" on the second post. Also you were suppose to type "Fritz" at the bottom of your posts. Rookie mistake, not a problem.

I would have added the superfluous "S" to "astounding" instead of "asinine", but that's just me.

I can't control when the creative urge hits, I just go with the flow.

Ugh...there are more posts in that area than the support section. It's nice to see a numberof people designing uniforms and plays to make a game playable for them.

I mean I would have loved to spend $50 on Oblivion just so that I can make my own stories and costumes to make the game playable.

Oblivion should have followed Maximum's football formula for success. I should have had one character class in the game and the rest should have been customizable.

So I could have made up my Fritz class :D and have this character teleport anywhere randomly in the game world. It would have been nice to see my enemies fall down when my dagger struck them for -5 points of damage as I glided across the terrain at a choppy frame rate. Then as a pixe comes to attack me, I could blow them away with a fireball that has 900 points of damage.

Of course, I would be unlucky enough to face a pixe that is wearing the legendary armor of Sir David Winter called Dithril. And that damn pixe would be able to absorb 40,000 points of damage wearing armor made for a full sized human.

Uh....what were we talking about again?....
