Coffee Warlord 05-13-2009 11:21 AM

Oh my.

larrymcg421 05-13-2009 11:30 AM

From his list, Noop picks:

3.5 Imhotep, Scientist, Egypt, Pre-20th

Barkeep49 05-13-2009 11:30 AM

Wow. I did not see that pick coming now.

Coffee Warlord 05-13-2009 11:31 AM

Makes two of us.

larrymcg421 05-13-2009 11:32 AM

Izulde sent in a list, but his picks are gone.

I'll PM him.

Ok first pick I had to look up to see who this was. I guess I am not up on my ancient egyptians I fear :)

Coffee Warlord 05-13-2009 11:50 AM

Off to lunch. PM'd larry a bunch of picks.

I'm sure they'll all get taken by the time you're up. ;)

AENeuman 05-13-2009 12:05 PM

Over/under on % of people in this draft being the same as historical person draft last year? I'm going with 80% ( i know this is snarky, but Imhotep was by far the best late round surprise pick last time and i fear little surprise here)

Interesting on religious picks. So far they have all been the charismatic originator, not the brilliant second generation administrator/writer/leader

He was going to be my last pick but I though Larry would wait a little so I can make the choice myself. However I feel like I have a solid plan in place to at least not finish last.

larrymcg421 05-13-2009 12:29 PM

Sorry about that, Noop.

From now on, if anyone sends me a list, please let me know if you want me to wait on using it. I can wait up to an hour before picking from it.

larrymcg421 05-13-2009 12:31 PM

I've updated the first post with all of the picks.

larrymcg421 05-13-2009 12:37 PM

I also added a timeline count so you can keep track of your pre-20th/20th picks.

Remember, they have to even out at 7-7.

Danny 05-13-2009 12:40 PM

Noop with two good picks after a questionable first one. BK stole my 3rd rounder, so great pick there.

I think Imhotep was an early rounder in that draft too. And yes, I am sure many picks will be the same, still because of the country limitation and different categories, there will still be different ones. I know for me, some categories I have a little different outlook on then the other draft.

Lathum 05-13-2009 01:57 PM

hmm, we seem to have stalled.

Larry, I should be around to make my picks

Lathum 05-13-2009 02:48 PM

so how soon until we use the Vikings rule?

DaddyTorgo 05-13-2009 02:52 PM

lol

Izulde 05-13-2009 02:54 PM

Gah! Sorry! Just woke up

DaddyTorgo 05-13-2009 02:54 PM

it's cool izulde - apparently you sent in a list but all your picks on it were already taken says larry

Izulde 05-13-2009 03:01 PM

Edit: Ineligible pick

Heh. This pick is invalid because of Marco Polo. What's funny is someone else already tried to pick him.

Italy already taken in that category.

Ah right, I keep forgetting Marco Polo's Italian. And I literally woke up 5 minutes ago.

Okay, let me try again.

Barkeep49 05-13-2009 03:05 PM

No problem. I was a bit of an idiot myself with one of my picks so I can hardly fault a sleep person for making a mistake.

Izulde 05-13-2009 03:14 PM

3.6 Otto von Bismarck - Chief Diplomat - Pre-20th Century

Largely responsible for the unification of Germany, his diplomacy and statecraft was magnificent, both in terms of bringing the independent German states together in one nation and empire and in dealing with international powers. His Iron and Blood speech is still quite famous and he greatly illustrated the practical application of Machiavelli's realist political philosophy or, as it's called in German, realpolitik.

Coffee Warlord 05-13-2009 03:16 PM

3.7 - William Shakespeare - Artist - England - Pre 20th

Izulde 05-13-2009 03:28 PM

Great pick with Shakespeare.

larrymcg421 05-13-2009 03:28 PM

No list from DT.

DaddyTorgo 05-13-2009 03:31 PM

of course not. making up a list so far ahead of time greatly limits one's ability to respond, or think creatively. i hate doing it, and thus will only do it if absolutely necessary

Abe Sargent 05-13-2009 03:33 PM

Me too

Abe Sargent 05-13-2009 03:33 PM

Otto was a solid choice for either Diplomat OR Ruler/Leader.

Thanks. I agree he's multi-category, but I feel like Ruler/Leader is much deeper than Diplomat.

Barkeep49 05-13-2009 03:42 PM

I'd agree that Bismark is a better choice in Diplomat given the strengths. A very solid pick, no doubt.

larrymcg421 05-13-2009 03:43 PM

No problem. I didn't mean it in a bad way. Just wanted to let everyone know that I wouldn't be picking.

We've got a really good pace going, so no worries.

Oh yeah, I agree. I don;t think many know just how much diplomacy was involved in the Unification.

DaddyTorgo 05-13-2009 03:46 PM

3.8 John Marshall, Justice Minister, American, Pre-20th Century

Abe Sargent 05-13-2009 03:47 PM

An obvious and solid choice.

Izulde 05-13-2009 03:47 PM

Nice. I was thinking about a Supreme Court Justice myself, but couldn't decide on what one.

was wondering when he would go.

good pick

Abe Sargent 05-13-2009 03:49 PM

ntndeacon and Danny are here. We could knock out two more boom and boom

Lathum 05-13-2009 03:52 PM

I'll be around for the most part as well

DaddyTorgo 05-13-2009 03:52 PM

i was just praying after my last pick that nobody would go justice + USA and block me.

there are maybe a couple others that i could have picked from around the world, but marshall was an institution in and of himself on the early court and his rulings helped to shape the nation. i really can't ask for much more.

DaddyTorgo 05-13-2009 03:53 PM

it was between picking marshall now, or going with a different category this round, and frankly i didn't think the justice+usa combo would slide till 4.5

ntndeacon 05-13-2009 03:53 PM

CRAP!! I was gonna go US justice this round! This may take a bit.

DaddyTorgo 05-13-2009 03:54 PM

awesome...phew :D

who were you going to pick NTN?

ntndeacon 05-13-2009 03:58 PM

was looking at Oliver Wendall Holmes. I needed a 20th century man.

Abe Sargent 05-13-2009 03:58 PM

Galaril, ntn, Lathum and Danny are all here. You coud bang out ;like 5 thousand picks in ten minutes or so.
