I'm listening to the NFL network in my car, and I swear they are almost going to cry everytime the Browns fail to draft Colt Mccoy.
Though I wonder why Cleveland traded up for a running back. |
Wow, thought the Browns were going for McCoy. Wonder how far he slips.
|
I'm wondering why Jonathan Dwyer is still around...
|
I'm loving the hell out of Seattle's draft.
|
Spikes, bad pick for a 4-3, but in a 3-4 he is going to be a great two down player at ILB.
|
Bleh, Spikes to Patriots annoys me.
|
Eh, Mayhew reminds us he was groomed by Millen. Griffen, Sapp, Bowman, Norwood among others still available and he takes a reach on Spievey.
|
Quote:
If they can also fix the offensive line. The line was pretty bad in the running game at times last year. |
Quote:
Don't agree with that. Griffen is raw, Sapp is coming off serious injury, Bowman has off the field issues and Norwood has no position right now. Speivey is a press corner, solid vs the run and has solid instincts. These are the types of DB they want. |
So Taylor Mays is pissed at Petey because they took Thomas?
|
Quote:
I think more pissed that Pete never coached up his deficiencies or told him how much they would cost him in the draft. |
Quote:
Taylor Mays not happy with Pete Carroll |
Taylor Mays unloads on Pete Carroll | ProFootballTalk.com
In that link, he seems more upset about Pete never correcting his tackling and backpedaling technique. |
And now Raiders pass up Bruce Campbell for Veldheer who looks like a solid player and is a potential sleeper.
This is the most un-Raiders like draft in a long time. Getting solid football players at need positions. |
wow - wondering if the Browns could still get McCoy... only 7 more picks
|
Quote:
Interesting take on him, differs from several scouting reports I've read. Excels in zone coverage, questionable in run support, and lacks catch up speed. |
nice pickups on the AZ TE and Brandon Spikes for the Pats (Spikes can slot right in next to Mayo as MLB starting). Weird choice on the OLD they picked up...doesn't seem to have good measurables or good instincts, but has produced.
|
Quote:
All Iowa plays is zone. He played in a simple system that limited what he can do. |
The Titans got a heck of a player in the 3rd round.
|
Quote:
They have a few weapons now with Britt last eyars 1st and the TE Cook last years 2nd rounder not to mention still having CJ and White. |
For the GT fans out there, what's the skinny on Morgan Burnett? The Packers badly need a backup safety, but I don't think he'll need to start with a healthy Bigby and Collins. Which safety spot does he project best to and can he play nickel/dime in year 1?
|
The Bungles picked up Wes Welker+
|
That was fitting. Shipley and McCoy are drafted with consecutive picks.
|
Quote:
Most of the summaries I've read seem to think he could play either safety spot. He can cover (played some CB at times), not afraid to hit anybody (and seems to enjoy doing so), reads run/pass and routes very well. Sometimes takes the wrong angle to make a play & has to rely on athletic ability to make up the difference, relatively fast but not a burner by any means. |
Great value for Denver getting Decker in the 3rd. Not a guy who will break a lot of big plays, but he'll be great in the passing and running game for them.
|
The Eagles have earned my trust over the years, but what the heck is up with the selection of Daniel Te'o-Nesheim from Washington.
|
Quote:
When he's not injured! :p |
I can leave this draft happy now...
|
Damn it. Don't like the 'Phins 3rd round pick at all.
|
And BB trades again. #89 to Carolina for a 2011 2nd rounder.
Trust the Hoodie. |
Carolina gives up a 2011 2nd for a QB turned WR. Nice work Carolina.
|
Armanti Edwards to the Panthers. For some reason, I didn't see the Lions picking him.
|
Without being to much of a homer, I think whoever drafts Dennis Pitta from BYU will get a steal for a great TE...his only knock is his blocking, which is what most of the TE's have as their weakness...
|
it never gets old. chris berman just said jordan shipley and eric decker are the same type.
WHY OF COURSE THEY ARE |
decker should be a good pick.
|
I guess I can expand my support to include the Browns now. Colt will do great.
|
Quote:
Did you catch Berman immediately asking Gruden how he felt Gerhart compared to Mike Alstott? |
Quote:
must've missed it as i was immediately looking for pics of shipley and decker to post as soon as i heard that. OR i might've been reading vikings fans' comparisons of rick fenney and toby gerhart at another forum ... |
I'm not real crazy about the Steelers' draft, overall.
Pouncey was a nice pick, but Worilds and Sanders (from what I have read) seem more like situational guys. Worilds as a pass rusher on passing/3rd downs and Sanders as a #3/returner. All three seem like pretty safe picks that will be productive, but the latter two seem like they don't project as starters once/if they get the hang of things and they are kind of redundant with some of the Steelers' recent FA signings (Sanders to Antwaan Randle El and Worilds to Lawrence Timmons who will possibly get bumped outside on passing situations w/ the signing of Lawrence Foote). |
Quote:
As well as the Bungles. They have a resurgent Benson in the backfield and Shipley likely in the slot. Lord help me. The sum total of my experience in Ohio is a 5 day training class in Cleveland in 2000. |
I really like what San Francisco and Tampa Bay did through the first 3.
|
Quote:
They mistook his name for Nesharim? |
Titans have gotten some solid picks to this point.
|
Quote:
:D |
Cards three picks seem to be good ones from what I've read, and all at positions of major need. They must get some secondary help in these last rounds though.
|
For the Pack, love the Bulaga pick and I was glad to see Ted trade up (almost stopped my heart) to get the safety he wanted (2 more safeties went a few picks later - so it was a smart move). Don't know much about the DE/DT Neal, but he figures to be a solid rotation guy a the 3-4 DE.
Going into the draft, the team's needs were OT, S, CB, DE and LB. Given we filled 3 of the top 4 needs with (apparent) quality players that should compete off the bat is nice. I'd like to see GB get a corner, LB, OG and QB with their remaining 4 picks. But, overall, it's a pretty strong start. |
Quote:
I think you might end up liking him. He was quite good by last year and from the local coverage the word was that he was helping himself a bunch in the combines. |
Quote:
Yeah Peyton Manning was actually scouting this kid and was pushing the Colts to draft him so that is worth something? |
Quote:
They tend to draft good pros in the first round, but their second and third selections just tend to not be that great(woodley notwithstanding). We don't need another OLB, we don't need another #3 type WR. Really these make no sense, and for instance I'd much rather have the Panthers #2 next year than the guy we took in the 3rd round. But whatev. They still need DL help, and I'd have liked to see them go after a NT early. |
Another very cool thing from Eric Berry. He'll wear #29 for the Chiefs, in honor of former Vol teammate Inky Johnson. Johnson's career ended early in his junior season when he suffered a serious shoulder injury that cost him nearly all use of one arm, despite several surgeries, regular therapy & 2.5 years later it's still in a sling. Inky was a graduate assistant under Monte Kiffin last year, cited as an inspirational leader & positive influence on the team with his positive attitude, he's hoping his future includes high school coaching.
Very solid gesture by Berry to pick that number in tribute to a teammate. |
Quote:
The third pick sounds like Wallace from last year and he has turned out ok so far. |
Quote:
I think they might go for Pike in the 4th |
Speaking of players who made bad decisions about whether or not to come out early, someone gave Everson Griffen some horrible advice. I imagine after a year under Coach O, he could have been a 1st rounder next year with his physical gifts.
|
Vikings just got the steal of the draft. This free fall should have taken care of his biggest issue right now - lack of motivation all of the time.
|
Good gravy. Poor Mayock sounds like he may die. Chavous is gonna be a busy man today, methinks.
|
Haha, Ochocinco continues to show why he is my favorite player in the NFL right now:
I've texted all the draft picks so far and cant wait to take them out to dinner #drivethru McDonalds, only1 hasn't hit me back is Shipley :( about 4 hours ago via OCNN @jordan_Shipley man if you don't return my text you ain't super-sizing when we go to McDonalds and I'm gonna flat your car tires #serious about 4 hours ago via OCNN @Jordan_shipley where the f%#% are you at? I'm level 3 pissed, tweet me back now, draft is over , we are suppose to bond now #cigars about 4 hours ago via OCNN |
lol @ochocinco
Anyone know much about LB Riley? I don't know anything about him, but LB was a good position to pick up for the Skins. |
Quote:
Should be a good 3-4 ILB. Will get plenty of tackles at that position. |
hah - Raiders get Campbell like everyone thought, just not as early.
|
McKnight and Sanchez reunited. :)
|
New England loves players from Florida, no wonder I hate both of them with a passion.
|
Did Dwyer get some really bad advice or something?
I wish these guys could come back if they aren't drafted, similar to the way basketball players can go that route. The player seems to be taking all the risk here, at such a young age, while the "advisers" move on to the next thing. |
Another OLB. Joy.
|
I think the Bears got a solid 4th round pick in Wootton out of Northwestern.
|
Quote:
Don't forget, the Bengals have Quan Cosby returning punts and kicks too. I LOVE Shipley. I thought he deserved to be top 3 in the Heisman last year. |
Quote:
Horrible pick in the 1st, excellent pick in the 4th. |
Surprised to see Hawley be the first Rebel drafted.
Looks like Dolphins got a decent OLB, but damn it, where's the RB or WR? |
Baltimore takes BYU TE Dennis Pita in the 4th and I think they get a great TE that is ready to play.
|
While the Lions can always use line help, they have to address the LBs at some point and 7th rounders likely won't cut it.
|
Quote:
Why do we need another WR? I think we're fine with Bess, Camarillo, and Hartline as the #'s 2-4. In fact, I think Bess will flourish this year without getting the defense's attention. |
Quote:
Heard Akin Adoyele might sign in Detroit after the draft. Would be a good WLB. |
I think what surprised me most was the Jahvid Best pick. Don't the Lions have needs far greater than RB?
|
How many RBs do the Jets need?
|
Leon washington to the Seahawks.
|
Quote:
Smith has been decent, but he has health issues. I do think they could have waited and gotten a quality RB and used the pick for something else. |
Quote:
Our #1 back (if you call Smith a #1) tore his ACL and might end up on the PUP list to start the year. RB was a massive need sadly. |
Ah - Conner is a FB and they traded Washington.
|
Quote:
Heh, I thought that last night. Had no voice left. |
Quote:
How many backs does Seattle need? White and Washington? |
Quote:
And now Rod Muckelroy. Although it wouldn't surprise me if Shipley ends up taking Cosby's spot. Seems like Cosby, Jones and Simpson are fighting for two spots. |
NFL network is reporting that Washington and Oakland are talking about a Jason Campbell trade.
|
MATT MILLEN GET OFF MY TV!!!!!!!!!!
|
Quote:
Plus Forsett. Petey thinks he's still at SC, though I can't argue with the moves. Can't stockpile RB's in the NFL though. |
Quote:
Via satellite from Jacksonville? |
Steelers get Bryant McFadden back.
|
Quote:
Didn't he test positive at the combine? |
And in the trade that sent McFadden back to Pittsburgh, the Cards take a QB, John Skelton from Fordham. Very interesting. The Jets have released G Alan Faneca as well, surely the Cards will have interest in him.
|
Quote:
Good deal for the Steelers. At best, he is a starter and at worst, a very good nickelback. I'm happy with this move. |
I think the USC player who will be the best pro (Anthony McCoy) isn't even off the board yet. Somebody is going to get a steal at this point. Maybe not as good a pass catcher as most of the guys who have gone so far but a good blocker, reliable, tough and great production at the college level. Very surprised he's still on the board and he'll be a starter in the league for a while IMO.

Quote:
Currently still sitting there as ESPN's best available. |
Quote:
From what I have read, that was a prescription medication that the league was already aware of and granted a waiver for. I doubt that has anything to do with the draft situation. |
A 4th in 2012?
Blah - I would just assume keep him to be honest. And as bad as his setup was in WAS, it'll be that much worse in OAK. |
Matt Millen is clearly a racist.
|
wow Matt Millen just did a public apology for some comment he made to Jaworski about Polish people
|
Quote:
Okay, this is making it worthwhile, actually. Now apologize for ruining the Lions, Pollock! |
Quote:
Neat feature on Skelton on ESPN just now-testing him on SportsScience. Like him even more now. |
A TE for the Skins?!?! WTF?!
|
Folks, I'd like to apologize for a comment I made recently regarding Matt Millen's ethnicity. In no way did I mean for my comment to be seen as degrading. Matt and I go way back, and he knows that my hatred of him is purely because of his 8 years destroying the Lions, and not for racial concerns.
|
Quote:
I'm thrilled that the Raiders picked up Campbell. He is a solid starter who had done well in adjusting to a different system each year. And more than gaining Campbell, I am even more happy that this means Russell at best is probably the 3rd string QB, if he is not cut. Campbell over Russell on the Raiders last year and they probably win 8 games. I believe the Raiders just turned their team around these past few days. Yes, they may not be a playoff team even, but they will no longer be the laughing stock of the league and should be a decent team. |
