6.9 Tallyrand Diplomat France Pre-20th Century

Abe Sargent 05-15-2009 08:11 AM

Tallyrand is solid

Abe Sargent 05-15-2009 08:11 AM

I got mine ready

6.10 John Locke, Justice Minister, UK, Pre20th

Danny 05-15-2009 08:16 AM

I don't even have any names left for my air chief, justice minister or economist. I'll have to do more research or get creative :)

Coffee Warlord 05-15-2009 08:24 AM

I'm now running into the Pre/Post limit wall.

DaddyTorgo 05-15-2009 08:26 AM

Tallyrand was a good pick. One of the two or three diplomats I was considering.

Danny 05-15-2009 08:26 AM

It's tough which is why I made sure to go 4 post and only 2 pre so far.

DaddyTorgo 05-15-2009 08:26 AM

I need to do a list of what I have left and where I hope to use what era's or i'm going to get myself in a bind

Abe Sargent 05-15-2009 08:28 AM

To help, I printed out a list of the categories, then wrote down the eras I except to take with each. Then I wrote down 2-5 names for each list from that era. I also wrote down my ideal round number for each category. Then I have a nice draft list to use.

Lathum 05-15-2009 08:30 AM

what is the plan for the weekend?

Barkeep49 05-15-2009 08:31 AM

I'd hope we'd continue to move forward, albeit at a slower pace.

that's what I just did, and I'm pretty sure I know where I'm going with my next 2 picks i hope

Danny 05-15-2009 08:38 AM

Alright, I have one of my next two picks, hopefully he lasts.

Great great pick. I wish I had thought of him as I'd have definitely taken him over Tallyrand. Well done!

Izulde 05-15-2009 09:18 AM

Abe and Barkeep are here so if they pick and then larry has a list for Noop or Noop picks, I'll be here for a little bit longer to make mine.

Danny 05-15-2009 09:20 AM

Nice, lets get a run going!

Galaril 05-15-2009 09:30 AM

I am here too so we might be able to get a good run going.

Izulde 05-15-2009 09:35 AM

I've gotta go but Larry's got my list.

larrymcg421 05-15-2009 09:37 AM

I pm'd Abe.

Danny 05-15-2009 09:40 AM

Both my picks are ready to go!

Coffee Warlord 05-15-2009 09:46 AM

I have a brief meeting in 15 minutes, but I'm around to pick once I return.

Abe Sargent 05-15-2009 10:11 AM

7.3 Sergey Korolyov, Air Chief, Ukraine, 20th

Sergey was the genius behind Sputnik and Vostok. He was the head designer and it was his vision that led to the great Soviet successes despite lagging behind the US in several keys areas of technology. His death in the mid 60's was the beginning of the downward turn for the Soviets. He was also the unofficial manager and organizer of the Soviet Space Program from behind the scenes.

larrymcg421 05-15-2009 10:18 AM

1st post updated through the first 6 rounds. I also added a list for each participant so you can track your timeline count and categories you still need to pick.

Abe Sargent 05-15-2009 10:20 AM

thanks larry

Coffee Warlord 05-15-2009 10:27 AM

Barkeep on the clock now, yes?

Abe Sargent 05-15-2009 10:27 AM

Yeah, I sent him a pm

larrymcg421 05-15-2009 10:29 AM

I checked his list, but all of them are taken.

larrymcg421 05-15-2009 10:37 AM

Looks like no one is in major trouble with the timeline yet. By my count, everyone either has a 3-3 or 4-2 balance.

Galaril 05-15-2009 11:29 AM

So it looks like we are stuck again. BK.

Barkeep49 05-15-2009 12:27 PM

I thought she would slip through!

Izulde 05-15-2009 12:51 PM

Sounds like a couple of y'all got owned. :D

DaddyTorgo 05-15-2009 12:51 PM

hehe

Izulde 05-15-2009 12:52 PM

I'm here for a few more minutes if there's a Noop pick.

Danny 05-15-2009 12:53 PM

Let's go Noop!

larrymcg421 05-15-2009 12:55 PM

Noop sent me a pick, but didn't list a country,a nd the pick has multiple potential countries, so we'll have to wait for him.

Danny 05-15-2009 12:56 PM

Boo!

Izulde 05-15-2009 12:56 PM

Bah.

Galaril 05-15-2009 12:58 PM

Arghh!

DaddyTorgo 05-15-2009 12:58 PM

you could just post it so that people can keep going - everybody else may be looking at a different category...

Danny 05-15-2009 12:58 PM

Just use your expert opinion ;)

Danny 05-15-2009 12:59 PM

Yeah and then we can stop when someone wants to pick from that same category!

DaddyTorgo 05-15-2009 01:00 PM

exactly. might be a category everyone in between has picked in, or doesn't want to pick in yet...or was thinking of a totally different part of the world...

Izulde 05-15-2009 01:03 PM

FWIW, the pick I was going to take Noop can't so maybe we could progress that far?

Just a thought. :)

Galaril 05-15-2009 01:03 PM

Agree.

Izulde 05-15-2009 01:15 PM

Sending larry writeup for my pick in case Noop isn't back before I have to leave.

larrymcg421 05-15-2009 01:20 PM

Alright, I'll post Noop's pick, but anyone who wants to pick from that category will have to wait until he selects a country.

Izulde 05-15-2009 01:20 PM

Okay I'll post my own pick then after larry posts Noop's.

larrymcg421 05-15-2009 01:23 PM

Noop picks:

7.5 Saladin, Army Chief, Egypt, Pre-20th

Danny 05-15-2009 01:25 PM

Good pick by Noop

Izulde 05-15-2009 01:25 PM

Hell of a pick by Noop there.

Izulde 05-15-2009 01:25 PM

7.6 Mt. Everest - Geographic Location - China - 20th Century

Even today, we consider a difficult task to be like climbing Mount Everest. The highest mountain in the world from sea level to summit, it has inspired and challenged people from all walks of life for decades, but it was not until 1953 that Sir Edmund Hilary and Tenzing Norgay finally attained the summit.

But Everest's challenge has not lessened even with this breakthrough. Every year, more and more people try for new records, either speed or status records in climbing Everest and it still remains arguably the most difficult climb to the summit in the world.

Truly a location worthy of being a nation's most prized geographic wonder.

Danny 05-15-2009 01:26 PM

Nice and with DT, NTN, myself and Galaril all being on frequently, we just need the CW to pick and we'll have a nice run going.

DaddyTorgo 05-15-2009 01:27 PM

who's 7.7? do it do it do ittttttttttttt

Coffee Warlord 05-15-2009 01:27 PM

Coffee Warlord 05-15-2009 01:30 PM

7.7 Socrates, Justice Minister, Greece, Pre-20th

Needs very little introduction, and his Socratic Method is still used as a technique in law schools today.

Izulde 05-15-2009 01:30 PM

Clever application.

Agree, very nice.

DaddyTorgo 05-15-2009 01:54 PM

let's not forget - Kissinger idolized him and wrote his dissertation on Metternich (things you didn't know that you learned from wikipedia are so informative). i was bip-bopping around to make sure I wasn't missing out on any other potential diplomats and so i read the entry on Metternich to prepare my "defense" of him

Danny 05-15-2009 01:57 PM

Didn't know much about him until just now, but looks like a good pick.

DaddyTorgo 05-15-2009 02:00 PM

I'm going to ensure that our little globe stays very well balanced and peaceful.

Danny 05-15-2009 02:09 PM
