The time from snap to kick is less than 1.5 seconds. What was the alignment that led to that spread in just over one second?

I am somewhat amazed/impressed that dude is STILL plugging away at this, apparently progressing and succeeding in the industry, while picking up celebrity endorsements for a design that seems to result in the exact same wonky, unrealized gameplay, across multiple platforms, for close to 15 years.

I think they've been doing a much better job at being reasonable about what they can and are delivering, but this quote still rubs me the wrong way.

Doug Flutie’s Maximum Football 2019 Releases Their First College Dynasty Mode Screenshots - Operation Sports
Somehow last month's update got missed. September it's MAXIMUM FOOTBALL WITH FLUTIE! (and it actually got shoutout in today's MMQB on SI :vomitemoji:) |
I'll definitely get this if they release on PC I've been wanting a college football game.

What happened to the beer tent?
It was my favorite feature. |
Wait, this isn't vaporware? Where have I been?

What's a Colar and Colar Stroke? Should I be worried? Should I call a doctor?

Late happy 14th birthday, thread.

It was seeing a console maximum football game at my local gamestop that led me back here after all these years. Once I got over my shock that maximum football was still a thing, I did not summon the courage to buy it.

Doug Flutie's Maximum Football 2020 Hits the Field Today
Imagine going back to 2005 and telling the board that Maximum Football would be getting a new release in 2020. Or that Doug Flutie would still be around. Or that Donald Trump would be president. Heads would explode. |
Quote:
It really is a fascinating case, I wish I had all the inside info. I just went to watch a video of someone playing the 2019 game to make sure it still sucked, and yup still sucks. It is also obviously significantly better, but still clearly not yet up to the standard of 'acceptable'. |
I still need to do something with the maximum.football domain
|
LOL....this is actually a video of the game on Twitter. Same ol' game.
Football at its finest...WTF! |
I bet it confused the hell out of the defense.

That's just not realistic; there's no way someone could run in a straight line immediately after doing all those circles. ;) |

2020 really is the year for Maximum Football

I can't even tell what's going on in that clip, like the circles seem to perfect to be run by a human, so is that the AI attempting to take a handoff?

Boy do I feel stupid. |

I'm working on a dizziness mod. If I can get it to work it will also apply if too many trip are made to the beer tent. |
there's like a 8 yard shank punt right before the spinning guy in another clip i watched. was almost as funny.
|
Just wow!
|
Holy shit the last play where the QB is tackled, 3 or 4 guys touch him while he's down, and he gets back up and runs for a TD. That's the best thing I've ever seen.
EDIT: Play starts ~14:55 |
So I’ve got to wonder how many copies they sell a year and how much they pay Flutie to hawk this thing? The number of people who buy a copy two years running has to be almost zero right?
|
Quote:
I was assuming the exact opposite, some kind of sunk costs Stockholm Syndrome drives the same couple hundred people to buy it every year. |

If Sean McVay calls that play, everyone calls him a genius. |

I really want to know what kind of price is going to be needed to be the proud owner of that game code.
|
I own the maximum.football domain. I'll offer tree fiddy for the code.
|
lol
The news "leaked" when Daivd Winter announced it. And holy shit he uses a lot of commas. |
Liquidation sale on beer tents a month before Memorial Day? Score!

hey i'm told there's a company out there gobbling up all time great games' source code |
Maybe Curt Schilling can buy the assets and make a go of it.

Should have turned the highlights into NFTs.

Maybe the coverage rights for the Benny Hill theme got too expensive?

Who else filled out the survey just to write "Beer Tents"?
|
I wonder how much they will pay me for the maximum.football domain
|
Rouge. It definitely has to have rouge.
|
I also told them if they wanted to really know what they need to fix, (besides beer tents..) they should visit this forum and ask around. :)

Argh....why I am all of the sudden getting nostalgic? Updated/upscaled another video for YouTube: Front Office Football Central - View Single Post - Maximum Football???
|
From the ashes of Maximum Football comes Varsity - a high school football game.
403 Forbidden I think the developers bought the MF game/property but are developing their new game from scratch. I've had their Discord channel in the background for some time but I only just noticed that they updated the logo to a big V which coincided with the announcement of this game. Personally I think that a high school football game is going to be a hard sell. It doesn't have the recognition factor of a pro or college game but it sounds like they have plans to extend their game if this takes off. |
Quote:
Yeah, with a high school setting they'll have to hide the beer tent. |
Quote:
Wellll ... one of the more amusing p.a. announcements I recall hearing in my life (which has a LOT of HSFB games in it) was a promo for pre-game happy hour at a local pub. Gotta love playing Catholic schools occasionally ;) |
Another phoenix version of MF. New developer so no sign of Daivd Winters.
Early video of it doesn't look half bad. |

Good one. I was imagining like it would be like that Seinfeld episode where Kenny give Jerry the Armani suit. Daivd would take the buyers out to dinner, only to order a soup, and then demand the buyers take him out the dinner again. |
Sorry guys, the next version has been pushed to 2024.
Also, I didn't realize before but I'm signed up for the Maximum Football mailing list. |
I forgot that I still have the maximum.football domain

The MS Store had Maximum Football '18 on a 90% off sale, so...
I can now claim to be a paid user of this memorable line of products. Opened it up but couldn't get very far without making the confused dog face. How did this become a multi-release product? Crazy. |
I've seen it was still around with new versions a few times, even backed by Doug Flutie I think? I figured in the several years since the good old days, it's probably moved up from laughably bad, but still never seemed worth considering.
|
Yeah, at this point the question of how it's continually getting made/financed/marketed is much more interesting than the game itself.
|
I spent $1.05 tax included. Probably not worth it.
|
The newest version of Maximum Football is actually pretty good if none of you have tried it. I mean it's not great, but it's not laughable anymore.
|
I just went back and reread the first 20 pages or so of that thread. What jumps out to me reading it now that I missed amidst all the hilarity is that I feel like Matrix Games had tremendous restraint in not just putting out the game. I mean, it's clear Daivd didn't care about quality and just wanted to get the game out there to start making money on it, and Matrix could have gone along with it, made some money, been done with the whole debacle, and when the game sucks, said "yeah that Daivd dude made a crappy game, sorry guys" but instead they actually wanted to make it a good game.

Okay, now I've read the whole thing. Never mind. |
I just watched the video for the College Dynasty option in Maximum Football and, I have to say, it does look promising. I haven't been following it too closely but apparently you can run a pro universe together with a college one.
As someone who didn't get EA CF25 because I don't have a next gen console, this looks pretty decent for PC users. Everything You Need to Know About Dynasty in Maximum Football - YouTube |

Weirdly a chap I know is involved in the new version of the game - he's got a good track record generally, but doesn't do 'simulations' normally ... so I'm intruiged to see what you chaps think to it ... I'd expect decent production values (and hopefully a fairly stable product) at the very least. |
I got a notification that Maximum Football has a free to play demo right now. Has anyone jumped in and can share an opinion?
|
No, but I gotta say I've never wanted to play a Canadian football game more.
|
At a quick glance, it's early access right now but the game will technically be free to play. Certain features are only released under paid DLC. You can do some things with a dynasty but not all (limited saved games? limited customization?). There's a $20 DLC for unlimited dynasty. There's a large online component (that I don't care to get into). As of right now, this is a college game but pro in the same universe is on it's way. Dunno if that would be a paid DLC.
Someone correct me where I'm wrong here. This model is a little unnerving to an old-timer like me but a free to play demo/base game can't bite you too bad. |
