Watching the Firefly series on Hulu. On ep 6 right now. It was a little slow but has been getting better with each episode.

I like how they mix spaceships with western/older era stuff.

tarcone 04-12-2021 08:50 PM

Firefly was one of the best shows made. It is so sad the network kept moving its time slot and making it hard to watch. Make sure you watch the movie after you finish the series.

pantera 04-15-2021 03:14 PM

I searched for this show here and was surprised not to see any reaction to it.

3-part whodunit documentary that is crazy! You will not believe the twists and turns in this story. It is not really about cats. It's about a worldwide manhunt started by internet geeks.

Netflix: Don't F*** With Cats

JPhillips 04-15-2021 04:25 PM

Agreed. Every ten minutes or so was an escalation from the previous WTF moment.

Ksyrup 04-15-2021 05:12 PM

That show was kind of a bait and switch since I was familiar with the main part of the story but not the beginning, so by the time I got to that part, it was somewhat of a letdown.

Another one I really liked that has a similar misdirection to the story that I watched a couple of years ago was The Keepers - it starts like a typical murder mystery and then takes a left turn into a Catholic Church cover-up.

JPhillips 04-15-2021 05:31 PM

The one with the Mormon kidnapping was fucking nuts. I can't think of the title.

Ksyrup 04-15-2021 05:34 PM

Also Killer Ratings. That one was almost like reading about life on another planet. I can't imagine so many people living in such abject poverty and crime being that routine. That's a story that barely made a ripple in the US that I can recall, but it's unbelievable.

Murder Among the Mormons was kind of like that for me - but that story might be better known in the US, I was not familiar with any piece of what was revealed.

Qwikshot 04-15-2021 06:35 PM

I still like Formula One: Drive to Survive...I want to show my 9 year old, but that Daniel Riccardo swears like a sailor (god bless Australians).

Edward64 04-17-2021 10:03 AM

Finished watching the Firefly series on Hulu. I have watched the movie Serenity which was good as a stand alone but makes more sense now.

The second to last episode with the western theme/hookers wasn't that great. The last episode with the bounty hunter was pretty good but why bring "threat of rape" into the story line.

Overall, a fun series. I would not have minded a second season. Glad they made the movie. Would support a reboot.

Ksyrup 04-19-2021 08:54 AM

Speaking of reboots, Amazon is bringing Kids in the Hall back. It was supposed to happen last year, but...you know. But I saw a tweet over the weekend from Dave Foley about being in the airport flying to Toronto to start filming.

On the one hand, another season would have been awesome.

On the other hand, so many series end and you end up feeling like they should have ended a couple of seasons earlier.

It is kind of nice to have a show that left everyone wanting more. Especially b/c they got the movie to tie up the major loose ends.

bob 04-19-2021 09:51 AM

I think that is also the case with Freaks and Geeks. I don't think a 5 season run would have been the darling the 1 season ended up being.

Good example. I think that it's hard for a series to feel like it had the exact right number of seasons.

Bojack Horseman ended at the right time, I think.
Breaking Bad was another one. Didn't go on too long, but at the end, I felt like it was complete. I didn't want/need another season.

Most, however, are either too long or too short.

tarcone 04-19-2021 03:57 PM

Kids in the Hall? AWESOME

I've been binging documentaries that have been on my list for a long time.

Finally finished watching Wild Wild Country, season 2 of Making a Murderer, and then the new one Murder Among the Mormons.

No need to recommend the others, you should have already seen them, but the last one was really interesting. Enjoyed it very much.

Watch as many of the "Classic Albums" series from Eagle Rock as you can find. They are amazing

Also "The Inside Story" series from Biography channel about specific films

We just finished the DuckTales reboot and I'm very disappointed it's done after only 65 episodes. The 3-part finale had a brilliant Gargoyles Easter Egg that encapsulated everything that show was about. It made sense within the context of the show while also completing the set of referencing every Disney Afternoon show. The show was uneven at times (the second season moon plot dragged) but it was a giant love letter to my childhood and I'm sad to see it go.

Gargoyles, like the original DuckTales, aired during the beloved Disney Afternoon block of programming throughout the 1990s. The DuckTales reboot has managed to work in nearly every other show from the lineup — including Bonkers, Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, Goof Troop, Quack Pack, TaleSpin and even Adventures of the Gummi Bears — but Goliath and his winged pals never made an appearance, much to fans’ dismay.

They're rebooting Darkwing Duck on Disney+ within the year, but I'm just not nearly as interested in it as DuckTales.

Edward64 04-24-2021 07:19 AM

Re-watched Star Trek Generations with Picard and Kirk. Awful plot with the nexus ribbon BS and Kirk dying an inglorious death.

Of the STNG movies

1) First Contact
2) Nemesis
3) Insurrection (distant third)
4) Generations (really bad)

tarcone 04-24-2021 07:46 AM

Watched Rush last night. That was a good movie. What an incredible rivalry. Good race scenes. Did not realize it was a true story.

JPhillips 05-13-2021 07:16 PM

Pen15 is so weird and cringey, and I love it.

Edward64 05-14-2021 05:59 AM

Finished Jupiter's Legacy s1. Pretty enjoyable, I like how it went between past and present. The explanation of the powers is somewhat unsatisfying but will see what happens in s2. Hope it's renewed.

There are several other series that I'm still waiting on. Delayed due to Covid I'm sure. The zombie fest The Kingdom. Ozark. Space Force. Mandalorian.

So good. I had a couple of spit takes during it.

We are watching Mad Men, really good show but I am about halfway through season one and I have lung cancer from the secondhand smoke.

PilotMan 05-22-2021 10:13 PM

You haven't watched it before? I'd say it's in my top 10 all time. Very good show.

We haven't but are really enjoying it so far

Izulde 05-25-2021 07:00 PM

Mad Men is an excellent series, though I despise Peggy.

tarcone 05-25-2021 08:39 PM

Mad Men was fantastic. I was meh when I started it. Just thought I would give it a go. Wow, my mind was changed quickly. I want to watch it again.

Love Bosch - looking forward to the final season. I think the first episode hit US tv this week, we'll probably get it in a few months' time.

Had to watch it because it was zombies. Not as good as s1 but decent.

My main ding is the jumping back and forth in time gave me a headache.

tarcone 06-29-2021 07:03 PM

We are finishing S2 of Black Summer. I like it, a different take.

The first few shows of S2 were weird. And I cant figure out why no one knows to shoot them in the head either

If you like FM or the idea of taking a club in England from a lower level to the Premier league, here are three shows I've seen and enjoyed:

Take us Home: Leeds United (2 seasons on Prime):
Take Us Home: Leeds United

When Eagles Dare: Crystal Palace (1 season on Prime):
When Eagles Dare: Crystal Palace FC

Sunderland 'Til I Die (2 seasons on Netflix):
Sunderland 'Til I Die | Netflix Official Site

If I were ranking them, I would go Leeds, Sunderland, Crystal Palace. The Palace one is cool in that they use footage from the 2013 season and then talk to the players in 2019-20 to add to it. The Sunderland one gives you the best feel of the fans, management and players all together. The Leeds one flows the best and is the most current.

GrantDawg 07-06-2021 03:03 PM

I have seen the two seasons on Sunderland, and they were very good. Need to watch the other two. "Welcome to Wrexham" is coming soon to FX, and is about Ryan Reynolds and Rob McEllehenney's purchase of the club. That promises to be quite entertaining.

There's a Man City and Spurs version of that Prime show All for Nothing. Brazil national team, too.

I didn't know about the Crystal Palace one. I will check it out. Thanks for posting.

The Four Year Plan is still one of the better football documentaries. Some of the newer ones are a bit too.. how shall I say.. neutered and self-serving. That one really showed how pompous and clueless the Italians that took over QPR really were.

Not sure about its availability anymore, but I could certainly help point someone in the right direction via PM if it's not available to them.

Edit: Looks like it is available to rent via Amazon -- Sorry! Something went wrong!

tarcone 07-08-2021 11:25 AM

Ballers is easily one of my favorite shows.

It is on HBOMax.

Just finished watching it again.

Dexter is back!

Dexter: New Blood Trailer: Michael C. Hall Returns as Your Favorite Serial Killer in November – /Film
Quote:

After a disappointing series finale left Dexter Morgan with a scruffy lumberback beard and an unsatisfying ending, Michael C. Hall is returning to see if everyone’s favorite serial killer can get a better send off.

Dexter: New Blood catches up with the evasive murderer 10 years after he went “missing” in the middle of a hurricane. Under the name Jim Lindsay, he’s started a new life, working in a small town shop and smiling at all the local who have embraced him as a friend. But Dexter’s Dark Passenger still lingers, and it looks like the urge to kill may threaten his new way of life. Watch the Dexter: New Blood trailer below.
:
:
Dexter: New Blood will premiere on Showtime starting on November 7, 2021 at 9:00 P.M. ET. If you’re looking to dive into Dexter from the beginning, the first three episodes are available for free on YouTube, and the rest of the episodes are available to Showtime subscribers on cable and streaming.

Lathum 07-26-2021 07:55 AM

I am so excited for this. Easily my all time favorite show.

molson 07-26-2021 10:35 AM

They were filming the new Dexter season in and around my home town in Central Massachusetts a few months ago. My father used to come across them going on walks, he got in a long old-New-England-man-style conversations with the guy in charge of the snow making machines, and other crew members. As far as I know he never met Michael C. Hall, but, he would have no idea who that was. My father's the kind of guy that could just wander onto a set and nobody would say anything.

Edward64 07-27-2021 09:37 PM

Signed up again for Disney+.

Watching Loki tonight, fun so far. I hope there is a good ending & explanation. I don't like how Infinity stones (and probably Tesseracts) are used as desk ornaments.

Edward64 07-30-2021 09:52 PM

Loki was great. I generally don't like time travel but the addition of multi-dimensions was pretty cool. Don't like how it left us with a somewhat cliffhanger.

Falcon & Winter Soldier was solid. The speech at the end reminded me of a Steven Seagal "preachy" monologue. But other for that, it was entertaining.

Wanda Vision sucked. I stuck through ep1 but decided not for me.

I do like how Disney is coming out with these short seasons for MCU secondary characters. Need one a month while we wait for Mandalorian s3.
