Oh, come on. It is easy! Group of white men, armed with rifles forcing their way into a state capital meeting equals peaceful protest. Group of multicultural men women and children chanting in front of the White House, rioters who deserve to be gassed. How can you not tell the difference?

The contrast is pretty fucking ridiculous at this point:

OK. Go ahead and post that this summer was a diversity fest as far as protesting was concerned. We both know it wasn't. Just own it. |

Rubber bullets? Arrests? Tear Gas? You were talking about cops killing protesters. Move the goalposts much? Back to what you originally said...no, it wouldn't have looked any different. The cops there aren't going to shoot anyone without a very, very good reason. |

True, I see the problem with it but I see problems with other things too...like barricading people inside public buildings and then setting those buildings on fire. |

Always huh? I've been a member here for less than a week so you can stop with the "always" stuff. Now as for what I asked you...go ahead and say that the protests this year were a veritable diversity fest with everyone taking part. That is what you implied earlier. |

What does that have to do with my question |

I'll make you a deal, I'll answer you if you can tell me what your question was. |

That may be the single most amazing conclusion I've seen in years. You should be a comedian, because I am rolling. |

But yup, it's getting toxic again. |

It isn't getting toxic. Do you honestly not see the blatant double standard he is claiming isn't happening? |

The goalposts aren't moving at all. I listed a number of examples of tactics police used against peaceful protesters this summer. I still advocate for the use of deadly force if someone is acting out an insurrection on a state capital. |
Quote:
Did you even watch the protests this summer? It was all diversity, which is why there were so many angry white men protesting against therm. blacks, whites, Asians, Muslims, women, children, old, young, etc...all represented at those protests. They were the model of diversity. |
Awesome, not only did they reduce the stimulus amount but also the max AGI you could have to qualify for any portion of it.
Glad I pay I fuck ton of taxes each year. |

Just to follow-up on yesterday's action at the Oregon capitol building, 4 people did end up getting arrested:

It appears Trump, who was basically absent from negotiations, wants to veto the spending bill which includes Covid relief. Mnuchin can't be happy. And no way McConnell authorizes $2000 direct payments. That's what the Democrats were asking in August.
|
But it was all the Democrats fault that it was only $600 instead of $2k. The Orange man said so.

No idea how this will play out. My guess is it'll go up some but not all the way.
|
Pelosi says she can get $2k passed by unanimous consent right now.

Here's the tweet. Fantastically played by Pelosi!

Head of Ways and Means agrees with Pelosi. We are about to see every Democrat jump on this and forcing the GOP to fight against it. Very publicly, as a special election is going.

Man, Trump has completely painted the republicans into a corner. If he wasn't so stupid I would think he did this on purpose as revenge.

Pelosi is dumb as shit and should have been doing this 6 months ago. It should have been what Democrats ran on in the election. She is lucking into it because Trump is an unstable dumbass who will probably change his mind by tomorrow morning when some Fox News anchor tells him to. |
So... You missed that whole HEROES act thing then? Back in August, Pelosi and Mnuchin were trading barbs over this (in my state the Democratic candidates talked about the HEROES act a lot, including the direct payment). Hell they even passed on updated HEROES act at the end of September to put it back in the news on the stretch run of the election. But Trump was on a leash back then so they couldn't squeeze the GOP with Trump's words.

The entire election should have been about whether people would get $3000 checks. |

In retrospect Trump not promising thousands of dollars to each voter when he had political cover to do so and it very well have made the difference is hilarious. Thankfully he's delusional & thought he'd win the election anyways/surrounded by yes men so he's just grasping at straws now haha

Well McConnell didn't want it and a lot of Republicans suddenly started caring about deficits again (including Republican voters who would have benefited started saying things like we don't need another $1200 from the government we need these lockdowns to end so we can make money).
It's no real surprise that Trump is calling for $2000 direct payments after McConnell called Biden the President-elect. Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk |
Pelosi is trying to do it via unanimous consent, which obviously won't happen. If she was serious she'd call the House back into session and do a real vote and at least force Mitch to ignore it. This is just a little theatre designed to fail.

I'm not a Republican voter, but FWIW I would benefit and I don't want the government sending me more money. It should go places where it's really needed and to people who deserve it. I don't deserve more of other people's money simply for existing. |

Yep. The left can be just as bad as Fox News in mis-characterizing what moderate Democrats actually said. I'd ask everyone to watch the video.
And it's obvious that Trump just wants to blow things up. People forget that he didn't just call for a $2000 direct payment but also eliminating other spending he considers wasteful (I don't think he realizes that those spending things are part of the omnibus budget bill and the Covid 19 relief is a separate part of it). Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk |
So Trump, Pelosi, and AOC agree on the $2000 direct payments. Did Trump become a socialist or are Pelosi and AOC going to begin donning red hats from now on?

More likely Trump sees it as a cheap way to score points while rescinding a lot of other more in-depth points in the bill(s) that go counter to his message and vision. It's the sort of thing populists love to do the world over: Make people happy about getting stuff in the short run while quietly making sure that in the long run they still push an agenda that doesn't actually sustainably improves the lifes of a vast majority of folks. Because that actually takes time, effort, know how and money. And which is also an issue for, say, the democrats. Because i don't doubt they could have gotten 2000 if they were willing to trade in enough chips from the more long-term and/or structural aid. While AOC and Pelosi now suddenly see an oportunity where now the 2000 are looking like a given because of how that obviously dominates the public discourse but that other stuff is still very much in play. Because now it'd look rather silly if Trump suddenly backs out because he cares so much about "insert whatever" that he uses the american people to get his way. Deep down he wants to be loved, so absolutely the smart thing to do here is rally behind his declaration and milk that baby. Especially with the knowledge, said baby is going out the door in a month. |
I just think he hasn't paid attention to anything but his election for months.
