Rodgers is 4 years older than Cousins, and Cousins has never missed a start due to injury before last year. Not saying he might not fall off now, but his history suggests he is a safe bet.

He missed a game due to brain injury several seasons ago

GrantDawg 03-12-2024 08:26 PM

No, he didn't. I just looked at his official injury report. Other than the Achilles, he missed one other game due to injury, and that was in college.

No, I'm pretty sure he missed the Packers game a couple of years ago due to being an idiot

You are right that it was the 2nd to last game of the 2021 season. I seem to recall it because Sean Mannion started and I think it was a Sunday night game.

GrantDawg 03-13-2024 06:34 AM

Sp catching Covid is a brain injury? People critized him for not getting the vaccine like that prevented getting it. I have had the vaccine and caught it twice.

Now someone backs up more money/yr for him than any of the parade of RBs we're seeing out there? I'm not feeling it. I'd be thinking of Mooney as a 1y/6m sort of guy, closer to, say, the DJ Chark tier.

I was wondering the same thing. I think they are going off this:

edit: Thinking about it, this is that stat that probably explains why Justin Fields has generated no interest. Fans may have complained about the lack of open targets, but the film is saying they were open, the team lacked a quarterback that could throw to them.

To piggieback off of this, here's a bit more from Athletic's Scoop City newsletter this morning:

Quote:

Per Sharp Football Analysis: Across Mooney's career with the Bears, nearly 40 percent of deep targets thrown his way were inaccurate. During this time, the Falcons' Kirk Cousins led the NFL in deep target accuracy (20-plus yards downfield). We could see a breakout season here.

it's called a joke where I'm from

QuikSand 03-13-2024 09:31 AM

interesting angles on Mooney... still not sure there was a $12m/y bidder out there who had to be beaten, but i like that there's a theory of the case

GrantDawg 03-13-2024 11:41 AM

They had to out bid the Cheifs who had him as their top WR target. Most of the rumors had their deal done.

This is the silly minutiae I love in contract negotiations so long as I don't have to read or sign those contracts.

Quote:

The Jaguars haven’t been in a rush to get their deal done with Ridley, as signing him before 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday would mean their second-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft would transfer to the Atlanta Falcons as part of the 2022 trade that sent the receiver to Jacksonville. It’ll be a third-rounder going to Atlanta — regardless if Ridley re-signs with the Jaguars or leaves to join another team — if he’s still unsigned as of Wednesday afternoon.

Thomkal 03-13-2024 12:47 PM

Good pickup there, was wondering why he hadn't signed yet

I promise you every Falcon's fan knew. Most didn't know there was a time-clock on that contingency till a couple of months ago, but then everyone pretty much figured they purposely holding off the signing until the time-clock was up.

I laughed. It was a good little joke

Carolina picked up a bunch of Oline and Defense. Maybe they can make a play now

cartman 03-13-2024 04:02 PM

Raiders cut Jimmy Garropolo and Hunter Renfrow

GrantDawg 03-13-2024 04:39 PM

Surprise! Calvin Ridley signed with the Titans.

"Raiders cut Jimmy Garropolo and Hunter Renfrow"
How is Renfrow only 28 when I swear he played for Clemson for 15 years.

Jimmy G shows how much of life is just being in the right place at the right time.

He was Brady's backup. And backing up the most successful QB in league history rubs off on your reputation. There's no reason that Brady's backup has to be any better than, say, Matt Ryan's backup. But it just feels like he *should* be.

Then he went into the Shanahan system. Which, whatever else it is, makes QBs look as good as they possibly can.

It really took us this long to realize that he's handsome Teddy Bridgewater.

JPhillips 03-13-2024 04:50 PM

He's only two years older than Stetson Bennett.

GrantDawg 03-13-2024 05:53 PM

I love the stories of Renfrow and Stetson being recruited by Bear Bryant.

So, apparently Aaron Rodgers is a Sandy Hook conspiracy guy? That conspiracy theory is really reserved for the dregs of humanity.

Thomkal 03-13-2024 07:07 PM

Looks like joe flacco is not done yet-signs a 1 year deal with the colts

Can't wait until it comes out he's a 9/11 truther. That will be a great look for a Jets starting QB.

He's got a definite Rand Paul vibe to him - thinks he proves how smart he is by being contrarian, but only succeeds in making himself look like an idiot most of the time.

Absolutely. He has a "do your research" vibe about him.

GrantDawg 03-13-2024 08:15 PM

The Broncos are choosing to take $53 million of the Russ cap hit this year to reduce the hit for next year. That hit will still be $32 million.

Going back to the root cause, I think the problem is that Poles didn't do his diligence on exactly how cheap and terrible Bears' ownership is.

weegeebored 03-13-2024 10:27 PM

Bad ownership + bad GMs = bad teams. Chicago sports organizations have had too much of that combo for decades with very few exceptions. The fans really deserve better.

He can spend up to the cap. The Bears have never prevented that. He's just very conservative in free agency and a pretty bad GM.

CrimsonFox 03-14-2024 06:18 AM

So apparently Kirk Cousins inadvertently admitted that the Falcons staff tampered him or something. More NFL BS rules.

He said he called the head trainer on Tuesday, which isn't allowed during the tampering period. I don't know how much the fact he called will weigh in on whether there will be sanctions or not. I mean clearly there was more contact than that before the tampering period even began. All the teams have back door ways of negotiating pre-tampering period. It just here he admitted to contact after the agreement was reached but before he was allowed to directly talk to anyone on the team.

I agree about the GM part, but do you have knowledge that the McCaskeys have told him that? My suspicion is the opposite: he's probably been told NOT to spend it all.

More evidence that Cousins is quite the maroon

They should suspend him for ... < checks Jamo >... at least six weeks. Integrity of the game and all that.

weegeebored 03-14-2024 02:40 PM

Another ho-hum "I don't have a clue" signing by Poles: C Coleman Shelton. Who? Exactly.

GrantDawg 03-14-2024 03:10 PM

Seahawks trade for Sam Howell in a pick swap (3rd and 5th for a 4th and 6th). I think that was a smart move.

They needed a starting C. He's better than Patrick and a starter vs Bates. It's not splashy, but it fills a need.

Still no WRs or edge rushers though, so...yeah.

Falcons unload Ridder to Arizona

weegeebored 03-14-2024 09:41 PM

Wow. Bears trade for Keenan Allen. Gave up a 4th rounder. I did not see this coming.

Coffee Warlord 03-14-2024 10:06 PM

Now the Bears just need somebody who can throw to all these guys.

stevew 03-14-2024 11:22 PM

The chargers would be a really fun Brock Bowers team.

Ammo for moving up??

albionmoonlight 03-15-2024 09:05 AM

Seems like a weird trade to make this early in the draft season.

albionmoonlight 03-15-2024 09:06 AM

Like, nothing wrong with it. But how can you know this far out the relative value of 23 vs. 42?
