My girl tried to get me on the South Beach a while back when she was doing it, but there's no way that I could have given up the beer.

I love my Shiner Bock too much...

Stubby?!?

AnalBumCover 01-07-2005 11:12 AM

When did this "Look Like" thread turn into a diet discussion?

BTW, I'm on day 5 on the SB diet. :D

Heh - I am pretty sure that if someone followed all of the other principles and exercised seriously then they could still lose a ton of weight in spite of a few brewskis per day. There was one case study mentioned in the book where one of the patients of Dr. Agaston wanted to do the diet, but refused to give up his daily bowl of ice cream...he got his way but followed everything else to the letter and still lost a ton of weight.

The sheer amount of simple carbohydrates the average human consumes in a day is absolutely staggering.

MrBug708 01-07-2005 11:13 AM

That's pretty tight Sab

No idea when this came out, but I'm wondering if it's the same study I heard recapped on the radio this week that said that, of the seven leading diet plans, the only one with documented proof of sustained weight loss after "officially" going off the plan was Weight Watchers.

Wait, if you go off the plan, how does it still get credit for keeping the weight off? Am i misunderstanding some semantics here?

If that's the case then maybe I could give it a shot. As you can see, my parents got me started at a young age (and yes, that's really me).

The article I quoted was in the January 2005 edition of JAMA (short for the full name I listed previously.) It is one of the few medical journals I read cover to cover every month, because it has a fairly good reputation.

Eaglesfan27 01-07-2005 02:05 PM

Dola -

This article didn't comment on any effects after someone stopped the diet, it just quoted average weight loss, average improvement in LDL, HDL, and a few other markers after being on any of the diets listed for a year.

Edit: But I digress, back to picture viewing ;)

Thanks, Subby, that's good to know. One of the few things I had been working on is portion size. Now I got to work on more of a balance.

Probably ... because I didn't word it in a way that even I'm sure I understood what I meant.

Basically, the report I heard appeared to have been saying that:
Of the 7 leading diet plans, only Weight Watchers could show documented proof that, once you stopped being faithful to the diet, you didn't just go right back to your pre-diet weight.

I'm pretty sure I understood what they were trying to say, because there was a couple of minutes of discussion about it afterwards. The general point was along the lines of "nobody goes on Atkins (or any of these plans) expecting to remain on it for the rest of their life". With W.W., apparently your eating habits (or whatever) changed enough that even without consciously following the diet, you managed to avoid going right back up in weight, while with the others the return to pre-diet weight was likely & in fairly short order (I believe it was like 6 months to a year).

There was another caveat worth mentioning I think -- whatever study this was made a point to say that the lack of documentation didn't automatically mean the weight might not stay off -- just that it hadn't been proven.

Am I the only one who thinks Shorty looks just like a young Babe Ruth?

(Which is odd, considering Cam looks just like an old Babe Ruth. Hmm...)

AnalBumCover 01-07-2005 08:19 PM

Bucc: Yeah. That's where all the bachelorette parties hang out.

Neuqua 01-07-2005 09:03 PM

Here are some random pictures from my 21st bday party a few weeks back... I'm the one in the white striped shirt...

Proud to say I don't remember any of that night. :)

MikeVic 01-07-2005 09:06 PM

I'll have to second whoever said that the wives in this thread have been great catches. :)

Also, to Neuqua... why aren't you drinking in the bottom picture, and the girl to the left of you in the second picture has a very cute face. ;)

Ryan S 01-07-2005 09:10 PM

FrogMan 01-07-2005 09:57 PM

I finally got around to scanning a bunch of pics, some of them where you can actually see my face.

First a pic of my two boys. My wife had this picture transferred onto a stainless steel travel mug, so now I take my two boys with me to work

I had to look very hard for a picture of my wife. Here's one of her with kiddo, even though she's not even looking at the camera. Kiddo was having fun using his pacifier on the wrong side :)

Finally, here are three of me and kiddo. First when we were having fun in the stairs, then the last two when we were contemplating the christmas tree. :)
