It's not. It is meant for white people to not feel like a racist for voting for the white supremacist.

Just seems so weird to pick this one random small gang that no one has really heard of.

If you talked to Fox News watchers, they're a huge threat with "murderers and rapists" (I wouldn't be surprised if Trump's quote was probably "inspired" by Fox's coverage of them) and they don't get why don't get this.

I worked with a few dudes who claimed MS-13 when I was a cook. That was in like 1995. I got the impression they are more of a concern in the NE in recent years.

I think they're currently serving as the brown version of Antifa....they do exist and they are remarkably violent buttholes, they just don't operate in anything close to the capacity that they do in the old rich people's nightmares. I am also reminded of the hype around the Jamaican 'Posses' of the '80s.

If that is the case (I've heard of a couple of things in the region, but nothing major), you'd think the GOP would love them.

Did Trump really say low income housing is coming to the suburbs and Corey Booker will be in charge of it?

That alone should be a disqualifier for most rational people

He's been using that racist attack for the last week. Cory Booker is bringing the blacks to your white suburbs is probably not going to sway anyone who isn't already on the Trump side

Have you seen half the stuff the Qanon people think it's going on? It's for them.

And yes, it's batshit crazy

RainMaker 08-24-2020 11:26 PM

It's been a standard GOP attack for decades. They are just not really hiding the intent much here.

Cohen had pics from the Falwell thing and used them to get the endorsement for the evangelicals? https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nyt...cohen.amp.html

I mean that’s from 2019.

MS-13 is off the greatest hits album

Quickest way to get rid of assholes on your Facebook is to post something about Tom Hanks. Anyone who says something about non-extradition is worth booting. Any of the people who reference “save our children” gotta go too.

That's the strategy, picking sth obscure and 'shadowy' that is infiltrating your live without anybody in the target audience knowing enough about it to refute it. See also the deep state and Antifa.

GrantDawg 08-25-2020 05:57 AM

I didn't watch, but it seems to be a twitter consensus that Trump jr. and girlfriend were coked out of their head when they gave their speeches.

albionmoonlight 08-25-2020 06:00 AM

I don’t watch conventions. But it seemed like a classic base motivating night for the GOP. Like Jon said in this or some other thread, dance with what brought you there.

Swaggs 08-25-2020 06:51 AM

Don Jr. did not look well.

Ksyrup 08-25-2020 06:59 AM

The only place I've ever heard/seen MS-13 mentioned is Fox News. Which fits nicely with their argument that the MSM is hiding info from us. They win both ways.

And yeah the "blacks are coming to the suburbs to destroy your property values" was a Trump comment a couple weeks ago, coupled with his assumpton that every wife in the suburbs is a housewife.

Looks like the FDA has been fuly Trumped.

Quote:

But scientists were taken aback by the way the administration framed this data, which appeared to have been calculated based on a small subgroup of hospitalized Covid-19 patients in a Mayo Clinic study: those who were under 80 years old, not on ventilators and received plasma known to contain high levels of virus-fighting antibodies within three days of diagnosis.

What’s more, many experts — including a scientist who worked on the Mayo Clinic study — were bewildered about where the statistic came from. The number was not mentioned in the official authorization letter issued by the agency, nor was it in a 17-page memo written by F.D.A. scientists. It was not in an analysis conducted by the Mayo Clinic that has been frequently cited by the administration.

albionmoonlight 08-25-2020 07:52 AM

I think that Don Jr. is under a lot of stress. Don Sr. has 70+ years of getting away with everything, so he does not fear any consequences for anything no matter what happens. In 6 months, or 4 years, or 12 years, he will go off to the cable TV/talk radio circuit and spend his days talking about how he's the greatest President we ever had.

Don Jr. knows how much illegal stuff he and his family has done. And I think he sees a world where it comes to light and things don't end so well for him.

I think that his fears are overblown. If the Dems never get back into power, he has nothing to fear. If they do, they are going to be so interested in "healing" and "normalcy" that they will extend the umbrella of not-going-after-political-rivals to the whole Trump clan.

But Don Jr. believes all his bluster and spittle about the Dems being evil and corrupt, so he's probably legit afraid of them.

JPhillips 08-25-2020 07:55 AM

Question,

Does the Trump brand have a future after Donald's dead? I think Ivanka will be able to continue her business, but I don't know about the Trump brand.

You are probably right. Nothing will destroy any possibility of healing (which seems to be a far-fetched idea to begin with, honestly) like Trump getting what he deserves while 40% of the country believes "the other side" got away with their crimes. But I'd like to think the real healing would be everyone pitching the Trumps into a ditch, them getting everything they deserve, and we all move on as if the past 4-5 years were our "blackout drunk" phase.

You know though, like we always have said, 'there's a tweet for everything', after trump, and his about face on so many different topics, there will always be a situation where you'll be able to point to something he said or did to refute an argument, and the response will be, 'that doesn't matter.'

to me, that means it's a jarring question... enough so that plenty of people are shaken from their predisposition (and yes, that's contrary to my rant, to a degree)... it feels kinda like an approve/disapprove question, but it's sharper-pointed... so even some of the Rs take a walk, I guess (more than just neverTrump Rs) and i suppose it splits true independents based on a variety of things

Anyone notice Lindsey Graham has laid really low lately? He's realllll quiet. Not part of the RNC despite being one of Trump's biggest cheerleaders in the Senate. I wonder if McConnell ordered him to basically in the lead up to his election since he's getting a legit challenge from Jaime Harrison....

I have been thinking today (I know, I really shouldn't). The RNC last night seemed to be focused on the idea that the Dems have "enslaved" the AA vote. They are selling that Biden is this huge racist (and of course, Trump is not), and the Democrats want all Black people to be in bondage to the government.
What I can't get is how they think that is going to work. Biden was the candidate that was selected BY the AA vote. He won the nomination because they overwhelmingly voted for him. So, the GOP suggestion here is that AA's must be so dumb that there hand-picked candidate is racist? That's a winning strategy?

Atocep 08-25-2020 04:47 PM

I'm going to guess no one in the white house wants to tell Trump about last night's ratings.

Total viewership was down 25% from 2016 and 15% lower than the opening night of the DNC.

He's not actually trying to get the AA vote. He's trying to make white people feel better about voting for him.

Things are just weird right now. People don't have time or energy for party infomercials.

I do think that the debates will not lose much ratings juice from 4 years ago.

Lots of people going to tune in hoping that the other team's guy does something stupid/senile.

A speaker at tonight's RNC encouraged her followers to read this thread earlier today:

Quote:

Her tweet on Tuesday linked to a lengthy thread from a QAnon conspiracy theorist that laid out a fevered, anti-Semitic view of the world. In its telling, the Rothschilds—a famous Jewish banking family from Germany—created a plot to terrorize non-Jewish “goyim,” with purported details of their scheme that included plans to “make the goyim destroy each other” and “rob the goyim of their landed properties.”

Drawing on more than a century’s worth of anti-Semitic hoaxes and smears, the thread claimed that malevolent Jewish forces in the banking industry are out to enslave non-Jews and promote world wars. Riddled with QAnon references, the thread from Twitter user @WarNuse claimed that the Titanic had been sunk to protect the Federal Reserve, and that every president between John F. Kennedy and Donald Trump was a “slave president” in the thrall of a global cabal.

The thread also promoted “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion,” an anti-Semitic hoax popular in Nazi Germany, and claimed that its allegations about a Jewish plot to control the world are real.

“The Protocols of the Elders of Zion is not a fabrication,” the thread that Mendoza shared reads. “And, it certainly is not anti-semetic (sic) to point out this fact.”

It's not as amazing when you consider The_Donald was originally a joke subreddit that was taken over by Trump supporters that thought the shitposting was real.
