And Kiper was giving McShay such a hard time about McShay not being sold on Clausen's ability or him being picked in the first half of the first round... Now McShay is plenty of an idiot in his own right, but you think by now Kiper would have learned that his opinion isn't the end all be all, and not always shared by NFL scouts and coaches.

wow, you stay classy san diego. |
New England will still get Kindle or Dan Williams. Jerry Hughes might be worth a look, too.
I don't think you can be too unhappy with getting one of those two + adding picks. |
Quote:
Kiper has a seriously inflated opinion of himself and his opinions and he's uber-judgmental. It's annoying and I hope he dies. |
Quote:
Dan Williams?? The last thing we need is another fucking NT. Enough with the defensive lineman...god.:rant: |
Quote:
So you are saying you won't yell at a 4 year old calling across a busy street for Mel Kiper? |
nice pick for Zona.
|
DAMN MAN I really wanted Dan Williams in Miami.
|
PHEW
At least we can't end up with Williams now. |
Quote:
true |
Damn... When did Arizona become such a competently run franchise? :)
|
here comes the Pats trading out of the first round
|
Its weird to have to wait this long for the Saints to make their pick and not be able to blame Mike Ditka for it.
|
I'd be fine with Kindle. Happy even. Odrick's the best value here, but LB is a bigger need.
|
Well, I take back part of what I said earlier. Merriweather and Mayo have been the Pats last two first round picks. Not much else from those drafts, and the jury is out on last year where they had no first, although Edelman was a nice late-round pick. But the trade-down strategy last year will take a season or two to know for sure:
|
well I guess I don't have to be disappointed the Cards took a LB now...
|
Quote:
When they infused their team with so many Steelers. :) |
Devin McCourty
|
i think last year's draft will end up looking okay...it's just...i dunno...not really fun to watch when your team is making 12 picks in the 4th round of guys you've never heard of ya know?
|
Well, I guess we'll see. I'd be lying if I said I liked the pick, the trade to get the pick or that we really needed another QB.
On the other side of it. . . this will be the defining move of McDaniels tenure in Denver. If it fails, he's gone in two years. If it works, we have a QB who is a hard worker and likely won't hold out for big contracts or screw twenty year olds in public restrooms. (note I said likely, who the hell knows for sure) The difference between the Raiders and the Broncos is that this is all the head coach doing it. If he doesn't get it right, Bowlen will find someone he thinks can get it right. Rather than draft the fastest available idiot twenty years in a row. |
Quote:
+1 after the Marshall trade, but it's better than him going to the Patriots. |
They're saying McCourty.
|
Glad to hear Packer's Gm Thompson publicly say he doesn't like the change to the draft. I am not a big fan of this so far.
|
Quote:
But not a fat chick in the group it is like they cloned a bunch smoking hot broads. |
over wilson? hmm...
|
Props to Rutgers if it is McCourty.
If I am not mistaken, last season (Kenny Britt) was their first ever first rounder. Now they have two more. :) |
who the fuck is he? WTF???
|
Quote:
for me to poop on. |
Quote:
They are college girls from Florida. |
yeah...that was really worth all that trading down and leaving those other guys on the board (or so it seems).
|
Quote:
One was a 50 year old freshman then. |
He'll nickel this year, return punts, dominate on special teams. In 2011, he should be a decent #2 corner. I'm OK with this.
|
Quote:
I just don't see any reason to get 12 picks. |
Quote:
Yep that surprised me too. That said, I did have McCourty with a late first grade. |
Quote:
As opposed to say Kindle who could be a starting OLB this year? |
Quote:
quantity over quality hoping you hit on at least one of them? |
Quote:
And in two more years we can send him to Philly for a pair of fifths like we did with our last return man / special teams / #2 corner after a season player (Hobbs). He needs to turn into a very good cover man (which the Pats could really use) for this pick to be worth it. |
Quote:
Sadly there's a lot of truth in that. :) |
Quote:
The idea is that he's a little bit faster. They really liked this kid. |
solid solid pick by the phins.
|
Quote:
Yeah he is annoying. This guy never played any organized sports I bet yet he is a expert:) |
I feel like George Constanza right now with this garbage pick by Miami.
|
Quote:
yep, he's a great athlete and he ran a 4.4 40 |
After 28 picks (4 to go):
Raiders Army 546 ShadowJack 514 QuikSand 494 Mustang 465 RonnieDobbs2 456 |
Quote:
Tebow is gay. |
Even better, now the Jets can get Kindle? It's like double awesomeness, the Pats get a guy projected to go in the early 2nd and the Jets get the pick they should have made. J-E-T-S...
McCourty sucks. But he did run a 4.38 and returns punts. I'm told that picks don't matter in college...whatever, he had like 5 in 4 years. |
Price to the Jets?
|
Odrick's a pretty good pick, though I'd rather we drafted Kindle.
|
BTW... looking back on it, just how fucking crazy is it that the Raiders took Sebastian Janikowski (a freaking punter!!!) w/ the 17 overall pick ten-years ago? :)
|
and I guess he was actually one of their best first rounders of the decade.
|
Quote:
Exactly. And Kindle can eat Brady. *sighs* |
janikowski is a kicker, not punter. and he hasnt exatly been great either
|
do they really need a DB?
|
Vikes are up!
|
Like that pick for the Jets. That defense is going to be even nastier next year.
|
Saints might pull the trigger on Kindle if he lasts to them. Williams loves versatile guys that can play multiple positions. (And last year he did play 3-4 from time to time.) The only reason why its questionable is the sudden amount of depth the Saints have at DE now.
|
Why did the Dolphins draft that bum.
|
Pats could easily finish 3rd in the division at the moment.
|
Tough to see both McCourty and Wilson go late in Round 1. The Lions need a CB badly.
Other than Patrick Robinson, I don't think there is a corner who I like at 34. That could mean Jahvid Best. |
Quote:
Patrick is a good corner who was left exposed by an inept defensive coaching staff. As long as he is in a good system I think he can really excel in the NFL. |
Vikes trade pick to Lions
|
Lions move up to grab Best.
|
Lions, huh? Maybe they do want Robinson in the middle of this run.
|
I wonder if there has ever been a first round without a player picked from Ohio State, Notre Dame, Miami, and Florida State.
I guess Clausen or Tate might sneak in, but still... |
Colts finally on the clock, w00t!
|
Could have USC in there, too.
|
Colts trading to someone looking to get Clausen wouldn't surprise me.
|
minn traded the pick to det, i hope they got Detroits 1st next year in that
|
Quote:
 |
Detroit ended up with two of the best talents in the draft, Lions looking pretty good in pre pre season.
|
Running backs getting a nice big bump in this draft. I guess Chris Johnson has the NFL going back away from "you can win with any old scrub at RB" theory again.
|
Has Gruden disliked anyone's pick yet?
|
With 2 picks remaining:
Raiders Army 554 ShadowJack 517 QuikSand 496 Raiders Army has clinched first place. Congrats. |
did Sergio Kindle literally kill somebody today or something? what's up with that?
|
Quote:
The Trade: Detroit's 2nd, 4th, and one of their 7ths for Minn's 1st and their 4th. |
Quote:
People aren't convinced he can read game plans during night games, despite Bezos' assurances to the contrary. |
Quote:
Realistically, I bet they will easily be able to turn it into a 2011 1st rounder tonight. There are going to be a lot of coaches begging their GMs to move up into the top few picks for tomorrow after they review their draft boards. |
Ha, Chucky got caught saying "dumbasses" as they came back from a clip montage.
|
Rams draft Danario Alexander in round two! :)
Would like to see him at some point wearing that Ram helmet. Can't wait to see Sean Weatherspoon this season, even if he is a Falcon. I wanted SUH, but I can't argue with Bradford, we definitely need a QB. |
Florida State is on the board.
|
I know they aren't listed among the "experts" but that's why I thought today's AP wire final mock draft was kind of interesting.
Players they had going in R1 who are undrafted at the moment & where they projected them OT Bruce Campbell - Maryland (#8 to Oakland) DE Sergio Kindle - Texas (#16 to Tennessee) LB Brandon Gibson - Ohio State (#19 to Atlanta) DE Ricky Sapp - Clemson (#22 to New England) TE Rob Gronkowski - Arizona (#25 to Baltimore) DT Brian Price - UCLA (#26 to Arizona) S Taylor Mays - USC (#27 to Dallas) QB Jimmy Claussen - ND (#30 to Minnesota) G Jon Asamoah - Indiana (#31 to Indy) Actual draftees they didn't have in R1 at all DT Tyson Alualu - Cal (#10 to Jax) T Anthony Davis - Rutgers (#11 to SF) C Maurkice Pouncey - Florida (#18 to Pitt) CB Kareem Jackson - Alabama (#20 to Houston) TE Jermaine Gresham - Oklahoma (#21 to Cincy) WR Dez Bryant - Ok State (#24 to Dallas) QB Tim Tebow - Florida (#25 to Denver) CB Devin McCourty - Rutgers (#27 to NE) LB Jerry Hughes - TCU (#31 to Indy) Just thought it was interesting to see how close or not close a non-expert selection would get. |
glad Clausen slipped
|
with their last two top 5 selections, the Chiefs have taken a 3/4 DE and a safety. LOL
|
Love the Suh pick for the Lions but I'm scratching my head on why they traded up to get Best when none of the teams ahead of them would've likely drafted a running back....
|
So the Vikings drop four spots from the 1st, gain 28 spots in the 4th and get a 7th. I think that's pretty damn sweet.
|
Quote:
vikes going after him? |
Quote:
I think the issue is teams having all night to sit around their boards and decide if they want to move up. Minnesota still may have gone Best, though unlikely, ya never know. For basically swapping 4th's, I'll take it. |
Quote:
you won't discount that 7th round pick when the vikes turn it into sam fucking cowart! |
Quote:
Push, we got 2 more where that came from. |
Quote:
Yeah, not a really high price to pay if he really is your guy SI |
Quote:
McCourty was projected to go in the 18-22 range in plenty of mocks. And where have I heard this intelligent "McCourty sucks" conversation before? Oh yeah. Quote:

Seriously man, you seem like a pretty normal guy otherwise, what's with your hard-on with this guy? What's funny is when I searched for the above thread, I found you bashing him going back to 2008. Did the McCourty twins double team your sister or something? |
Just happy Earl Thomas didn't go to the lowly Eagles. That made my night.
|
YOU HAVE OFFENDED LATHUM
|
Quote:
Well duh, I was poking a little fun at myself and the prior conversation. I only saw like 2 mock drafts with McCourty even in the first round. And my hard on is that the RU secondary consistently got used over the past few seasons (especially when the pass rush doesn't force the issue) and the twins were at the helm. I always thought they weren't really starting caliber type DBs, but apparently coach Schiano did. |
Quote:
ummmm, what? |
Quote:
I just wanted to point out that, unbelievably, I agree with my red and dull yellow colored rival here. Fortunately, he even looks like a douchebag (see pic earlier in thread for confirmation), so you can see him coming. |
Gotta love Carroll passing on Taylor Mays in the first round. Poor Taylor, shouldnt have listened to your coach last year, he didnt have Sanchez's best interest and he didn't have yours either. Too bad Sanchez wasn't an idiot

This is my favorite Raiders first round pick in a few years at least. Looking back now and especially with what is there heading into the second round, I think they made the best possible pick.
|
And I mean that in regards to the talent still available at OT and DT, the Raiders two biggest needs along with Claussen still there.
Hopefully they don't screw this 2nd rounder up and go with one of Bruce Cambell, Roger Saffold, Charles Brown, Claussen David Price and Terrance Cody. |
