Pumpy Tudors 11-07-2005 10:00 AM

Unless it was posted elsewhere, I was the one who guessed that Sega is on the west coast. I know their corporate offices are out there, but I don't know where the people involved with this project are.

Anyway, it appears that SI is happy with the file, and Sega is happy with the file, so it's just up to the digital provider to activate the link. That's the impression I got from the thread over on the SI forum. I have no idea who the digital provider is, but if they're also on the west coast, that might be the reason for the delay. The SI folks have done a great job of staying up very late in order to help get this resolved, and I'm no longer thinking that the end of the UK workday spells doom for us North Americans.

I'm as much of an outsider on this as the rest of you guys, but I'm actually feeling pretty confident that this thing will be ready today. My plan was to just get the boxed copy in a day or two if the download isn't available today, but I realized that the boxed version will not have the latest patches out of the box, so I wouldn't really start playing it until the patch is available anyway (and we don't know when that'll be). I'll be waiting for the download no matter what.

If I may go as far as making a prediction, I'm going to guess that the download will be available by 3pm EST today. That's four hours from this post. Prove me right, SI! :D

FM

edit: don'T know what I was thinking, 3pm EST is noon pacific, even better guess...

I was under the impression that it had already been tested. Maybe things will move quickly and it'll get done early anyway. I don't particularly care how early since I'll be at work for the next 6 hours or so, but it'd be nice to see that it's available before I leave the office. It'll make the 45-minute drive home a little exciting.

Yes, happened in FM2005 just as above: in FM06 however, the budgets get set with a message 'the TV money has been taken into account when setting the budgets', which is far better: the TV money is guaranteed and should be included initially.

So I read it that it will not change in FM06 as it used to, which as I say, is far, far better. And from Marc's reply, if I'd have seen the button with the news message, I would have been able to change the budgets more to suit my strategy, so basically it's my own fault for skimming the news message!

(The second post was more a reply to the theory that offer high wages but spending in transfer fees is a safer way to go than the reverse, rather than to do with a problem with the game)

Desnudo 11-07-2005 11:17 AM

It did change for me in FM06 after the original budget had been set. During the off-season between Leed's promotion from the Champ. to Premier. The caveat is that I'd sold about $6 million worth of players. So the board provided matching funds, so to speak.

RPI-Fan 11-07-2005 12:10 PM

Thanks, but Graeme had stated that it was uploading to Sega about 4 hours ago. If the file is still being uploaded (I don't know how big it is or how much bandwidth you guys have), then that means it'll probably take an hour or two to download and test after Sega has protected it. Of course, who knows when Sega will get around to protecting it? Then, even if the test goes well on both sides, the digital provider needs to be contacted to let them know that they can activate it, right?

I don't claim to know the process, but if that timeline is close to being accurate, it appears most reasonable that it's at least another day.

Of course, I hope I'm wrong. :)

TazFTW 11-07-2005 02:49 PM

Gamestop.com still has the game listed as prerelease 11/07/05.

Passacaglia 11-07-2005 03:09 PM

So, um, what do you guys think about setting up an MP game? That would convince me to upgrade to FM 2006.

Neither do I. But hey, it's FM -- we pretty much know what we're getting. I just thought the interested parties (if any) could figure out a time to play or something. I've never played an MP game of FM, but from the SI boards, it sounds like people get together for a specified time each week?

Katon 11-07-2005 03:54 PM

I already have a copy (parents brought a CD over from the UK), and I'd be interested in an MP game. Now that I'm in a time zone where that's actually possible.

BigDPW 11-07-2005 04:09 PM

Ugggggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... The suspense is killing me... I always say I won't let a game do this to me but some of them always do... I certainly hope this gets done soon... I was all set-up with my new PC last Tuesday but I can't see how much faster it will run FM until I have it... And I don't want to get another FM05 career started to get attached to in the mean time... I am LOVING the demo but can't get a feel for speed since it is only a quickstart...

Oh, someone needs to host it on a server. If so, um...someone besides me!

Anyway, a slow pace is good for me. And it looks like we have a lot of interest -- 6 people in one afternoon. What kind of scenario would y'all want to run?

Coffee Warlord 11-07-2005 07:30 PM

Well, before I agree to hosting this...how the hell does multiplayer on FM work?

edit: Nevermind, just read the damn manual. :)

And if anyone is available to test to make sure people can connect to my machine, I'd be up for it. I've got a pretty blazing computer, so we can do Large DB's (Huge is just insane) with a chunk of leagues.

MikeVick7 11-07-2005 07:49 PM

dola - I think if you can't be online on a certain night, you can set your Asst Man to handle all of your duties, ie lineups, training...etc. Not that it would be as effective, but at least it would be still possible to stay in the league.

Well Cringer doesn't have much free time himself being that he trucks during the week, and is either resting against his wife's boosom or listening to me rant on about how shitty guys are running their ImperialFL teams on the weekend.

RPI-Fan 11-07-2005 08:32 PM

If it means anything, some guy bet the SI people a copy of the game (he'd buy two if he lost, they buy him one if he wins), that the game wouldn't be out by 12:00PM EST on 11/9/05 and Miles Jacobsen said "I will gladly take you up on that bet".

Hi,

Finally I am please to be able to provide you with the link to download. This link downloads a small exe file which you then run again in order to download the installer. Be sure to change the default directory if you want to keep a copy of the installer to use on another

machine or give to friends.

Again, we apologise for any inconvenience that they delay has caused, and hope you enjoy the game. The game is based on the second build of the 6.0.1 patch. When patch 6.0.2 comes out, there will be a separate/special version for the WWSM Digital Download version.

I'll check back as soon as I get into work tomorrow for any feedback. It will be late though because I have 10 days lack of sleep to catch up on now that this is out. So please don't be expecting an instant reply . Good night!

Cheers

Sega and Digital River? Interesting....

Pumpy Tudors 11-07-2005 09:42 PM

I can't even get my game started. I have it installed, but after I select the leagues and try to get it underway, the program crashes. It's leaving a dump file in the game directory, so I could send it to someone to try to get resolution, but all the SI guys are sleeping now. I'll try to lower the database size from large to normal and see if that helps, but there's no way that it should be dying on me just because of the database size.

Pumpy Tudors 11-07-2005 09:45 PM

Well, it didn't crash (at least it hasn't crashed yet, and it has passed the "bad" spot) after I lowered the database size. This is bizarre.

I had already tried it, and it didn't help. I'll probably just play with the normal database and send the dump file to SI so they can look into my problem.

EF: I ran 64 divisions in 27 nations on a gig, and it's pretty fast.. on yours? Damn. Run it all!

How much does a RAM upgrade cost? I'd think about moving to 1gig or more if it's not too expensive.

dola: I am going to create a thread for the FM06 Net Game, so people can say what they want and who'd they like to play.

So far my 27/9 (w/ 512) isn't moving too well... gone through the first July (with not many games happening, of course), in roughly an hour. Do things speed up or slow down in later months?

fwiw, had the same kind of crash on my first try at making a new game, then lowered the number of league in basic details and normal, but upped the database from small to normal and it went through... weird...

I wouldn't be so sure about that... I know there are restrictions when you're selling games with two different names (WWSM & FM) as to having to make a certain amount of things legitmately different -- this may have been one thing they had to totally change.

July's usualkly tough as teams start to spend money.. it should move faster outside the transfer windows
