Somebody is going to be going to sensitivity training tomorrow!!

Is your spoiler written in code? I have no idea what this means. |

Spoiler
|
Yes, I remember that. You didn't spoil anything by your post. That was my point.
|
the downhill doesn't air till tonight on NBC, I thought
|
US has made a great comeback in curling, down 4-0 but now winning 6-4 in the ninth (though the Swiss look like adding at least one here), doing a lot of that scoring without the hammer.
|

YOURE WATCHING CURLING. |

Hell yes, it's up there with skiing moguls and the snowboarding events as one of the best sports at the Winter Games, definitely more entertaining than stuff like cross-country skiiing, figure skating, and hockey. |
Damn, Shuster left the final throw about 1-2 inches short, now it's going to extra innings. Second straight game he's been just off when it matters most.
|
What time is the Halfpipe final tonight? I thought I saw 10;15 east but I can't find it now. I want to see Shaun White bust out the double cork.
|
Man, those snowboard uniforms are hideous. They remind me of when our old TV used to go out of whack.

Would-Be Teammate Criticizes Davis’s Withdrawal - NYTimes.com
Gosh, this guy can't get a break. I don't think he does himself any favors at all, but...goodness, it's really unbecoming of the people in this sport to be so catty every four years. |
Damnit, another one-point/final throw loss in the curling for the US. At 0-3 with the Canucks and Brits still to come it will be near impossible for them to make the semifinals.

Yeah but it's not live... |
Germany/Sweden on MSNBC in the late 2nd. Germany hit 2 posts on a 5x3 and D. Sedin blatantly jumps into Germany's goalie for their ensuing 1-0 lead. I forgot how awesome the Olympics non-commercial break action was.
|
Quote:
And Sweden gets another power play right away after a crappy penalty call by the ref. |
This has been the most fun night of coverage so far. I can't help but notice there is no figure skating but we've had snowboarding, speed skating, short track, and downhill.
SI |
Bad couple of downhill runs in a row
SI |
Holy crap is Vonn fast.
SI |
Can't help but feel good watching Vonn in the interviews..
|
yay Vonn! and Mancuso!
|
They were talking through the announcing about how it wasn't a technically sound race but she beat everyone senseless by almost (over?) a second
SI |
Snowboarding time and it's live :D
SI |
Those are some sweet flannel nightshirts they have! Almost as good as the blue pjs with the snowflakes the women's mogul team wore.
(Wait...those were stars? Totally looked like snowflakes from a distance.) |
My wife and I had this conversation a couple of nights ago.
Me: "That's kindof cool- they have snowflakes on their uniforms" (the guys and girls both had them, I think) Her: "Those are stars." Me: "Oh" SI |
Congrats to Shani Davis, narrowly winning gold in the 1000m for the 2nd straight Olympics.

That was a very impressive run by the Flying Tomato.
|
Man, that first Japanese guy would have had the lead if he hadn't fallen. He had a great run.
SI |
46.8 won't be topped. This is already over. Can't wait for his last run though.
|
Shaun White was fucking sick!!! He got some SERIOUS air there on his straight-air, and massive air on the double corks too. Just insane!
|
Quote:
That's what I just said - no way anybody tops that - they'll have to go all-out to beat it and they'll mess up. |
Great guys, ruin everything for us west coasters...
|
White's first run is good. His second run is going to be awesome. He has nothing to lose and playing conservatively won't get him anything since he already has such a great score.
SI |
it's not over yet dan...that was just the first runs for everybody. all that's ruined is that you know that Shaun threw down a hell of a run (which isn't really any surprise)
|
Honestly if White doing great is a spoiler then the Olympics announcement should have read:
Spoiler
It's one of the biggest givens in sports. |
Quote:
I was talking with my wife: he gets so much more air than everyone else so he has that much more "space" to do elements. SI |
Quote:
seriously. the guy never fails to fucking bring it. |
Hm... should we have some spoiler protection for the NBC events? Even for west coast?
I mean, the curling or hockey stuff that you can only see online or is shown live- well, that's live. But what about the primetime stuff? Should we do something like this so people know the event and can look if they're watching it but it saves the others? Quote:
SI |
How on earth does he go so much higher than everyone else? It's like he has some kind of anti-gravity boots or something.
|
Quote:
yeah |
damn - he just barely got that last one in....wow
|
Wow. Just found out you need a cable or satellite subscription in order to watch the live feeds from nbcolympics.com. Guess I won't be watching any curling after all. :(
|
That Finnish kid probably did the most perfect run he could do and still doesn't top White just going conservative.
|
Quote:
tomba won gold. |
Spoiler
|
Quote:
didn't think that was a 45.0 run though - he didn't get THAT MUCH air... |
ooooooooooooooooooooo
|
Wow.
|
Haha amazing.
|
That kid is fun to watch.
|
Spoiler
|
he had zero speed to get that though...i'm surprised he landed it...amazing
|
I'm just being sarcastic guys
The coverage is all over the Intarwebs no way to avoid it. Fucking NBC. |
holy shit...48.4
if he had the speed to land that cleaner (fucking vancouver) that woulda been like a 49.0 |
Vonn has a little Bo Derek thing going on.
|
I'm liking Mancusso.
Spoiler
|
i'll be the meat in that silver+gold sandwich any day
|
Quote:
He's just that much higher than everyone else in snowboarding. |
Quote:
+1 |
Quote:
That was un-freaking believable. The only run all day that beats his first run and it's his freaking victory lap. That guy is a freak. |
What a run! Wow!
Again, Lago should have gotten Silver. The Fin got way too high of a score for a run that wasn't that clean or even that risky. SI |
Quote:
I dunno. She looked pretty bitchy up on the podium. Heck, the Austrian looked the happiest to be there. She looked like the slightly chunky, nerdy kid crashing the sorority party :D SI |
Why does this statement make me laugh?
"Ziggy Palfy is still almost scoring at will in the slovac league..." Said after he missed on a breakaway; talking about how he retired a few years ago but is still playing. Since he just "almost scored" does that mean he is "almost scoring" at will or almost "scoring at will"? :) |
For some reason watching these games makes me really sad that EHM died a death. I think it's all the Euros who were so great in game but you could never get to come to North America.
Usually I'm not a huge fan of international hockey but so far this year it's really captured my imagination and I've watched pretty much every game. I think it's the NHL rink which has led to a slightly more physical style of play. |
Some nasty crashes in the womens downhill
|
Quote:
yeah, seriously. This must rank right up there as one of the most difficult and possibly insane tracks ever. 4 jumps, 2 right into turns, a ridiculous finishing jump that wasn´t changed one bit from the men´s track, multiple steep turns, a very "hard" surface with a ton of unsteady riding. All that with 1 single practice ! That didn´t even go all the way down in one run (they went to a certain point, had a 3 hour break and then rode the last bit). It wasn´t like it was bad riders falling or almost falling, there were legit Top10 riders (or even medal candidates) biting the snow. Pärson seems to be fine, a million bruises aside. A romanian rider has ruptured her knee tendon though :( Vonn/Mancuso were brilliant though, very impressive. tonigh part 2 in the super combination (downhill + slalom), they are working on lowering the final jump at least. - Germany put up a great fight against Sweden in Hockey, very good start. Heck, a little more luck and who knows ... |
Ovechkin's Olympic skates:
![]() |
JiMGA- do you have some ratings break downs by sports? I'd be curious what is more and less popular to the general populace.
Also, last night was easily the best night of coverage for my bucks. They did a good job marketing as they had star power (Davis, Vonn, Ono, White) and almost everything was live, except the downhill. But no figure skating so I'm sure ratings are down, even tho they had everything else pretty much line up. SI |
Could the US curling teams be any worse?
|
Quote:
well, they could exchange shorts with the norwegians :D |
Why do the Olympics have videos of the olympics on lockdown but not have videos of events on their website?
|
spoiler be damned : Anja Pärson = Tough as nails  Not only did she get up after that horrific fall, she raced today.
Hats off :) I want her to win a medal so bad right now. |

More high drama for Team USA curling. The men are going into extra ends again, this time against Denmark.
SI |
John Shuster makes Nate Kaeding look clutch :(
|
Quote:
No kidding. This is their second heartbreaking extra end loss that they easily could have won. :( I miss Pete Fenson. SI |
Unfuckingbelieveable. Three straight devastating losses. USA are out of it, I need someone to root for the rest of the way, someone other than Canada or Britain.
Nice goal by Kessel puts USA 1-0 up early over Norway in men's hockey. edit: It might have already ended, there's no live up in the top corner logo. |
Jesus Shuster is getting killed - how did he miss that hammer!?
|
Quote:
I'm really enjoying watching Canada's matches, tho. Kevin Martin is a beast and the announcers are good. You could always cheer for the pants-- err.. Norway. ;) SI |
I'm just a little unsettled by you guys going gaga over the pants of a men's curling team. I don't think you guys are doing this right.
AND STOP TALKING ABOUT PANTS IN THE WHISTLER THREAD ANYWAY |
Power Forward Dany Heatley putting Canada ahead 1-0!
|
Swiss tied it at 2 after 2.
|
lol, readig a story about what Shaun White's coach said yesterday. Claims that his language marred what could have been a good event.
Are you freaking kidding me? If hearing two "bad words" is enough to ruin an event you really shouldn't be watching sports of any kind, or going out in public for that matter. |
They really should have done the women's halfpipe before the men's. They are good and all but it just doesn't seem to compare to yesterday.
|
Jonas Hiller....wow
|
Torrah Bright... wow
|
Swiss and Canada going to OT.
|
Nash was out of control, give him a damn penalty for that.
|
Quote:
Exactly! I don't understand how that wasn't a penalty. |
Good grief I can't believe this is coming down to a shootout. God forbid Mike Green was on the team for powerplays like that one in the last couple minutes. Fuck.
|
Nice save.
|
The downhill was pretty cool
Spoiler
SI |
Crosby didn't fuck around on that second chance. What a rocket. Thank God!
|
Great game...can't wait for Sunday!
|
Crud...
Not sure what is more annoying, Crosby and his whining or Brodeur's bush league shaking of the glove tactic. |
Hiller was unreal, but if I was a Canadian fan I'd be very concerned about the defense. Keith and Doughty don't look ready to be out there and are turning the puck over way too much. If Switzerland had some of the offensive players that Slovakia or Russia have, this game would have been a loss.
|
Plus the Canadian power play didn't look all that hot.
|
Didn't see the goals, why did Brodeur call the Swiss goal (2nd one I believe) a "lucky goal"?
