So if the Feds charge Bolton for disclosing classified information, then I guess we'll find out what's true.

Tucker Carlson doesn't have an obligation to investigate the truth of statements before making them on his show and his audience doesn't expect him to report facts, a lawyer for Fox News told a New York federal judge on Wednesday.

The Lincoln Project should run this as an ad on Fox News.

JPhillips 06-17-2020 07:05 PM

Fuck Bolton and his money grab.

That being said, he's made a number of statements that can at least be corroborated. Now comes the work of double-checking his assertions.

RainMaker 06-17-2020 07:13 PM

Nothing coming out of the book is really new. We knew Trump would put his own interests ahead of the country. We knew he was dumb as shit.

100%

This shit is going to get minimal attention on conservative airwaves and he's building China up as a new cold war to his supporters.

His strategy isn't changing at this point. Attack china, attack dems as socialist, attack anyone that isn't a base supporter, and hope for an electoral college miracle.

PilotMan 06-17-2020 08:30 PM

How does trump get any credit for anything to do with china? I thought he was going to get tough on the South China Sea? He really hasn't done much of anything that has had any substantial impact on them to the extent that he was promising.

NobodyHere 06-17-2020 08:35 PM

So there hasn't been a trade war with China the last few years? Wasn't that one of the major news stories before BLM and COVID?

sterlingice 06-17-2020 08:37 PM

His supporters would point to his tariffs, I think

PilotMan 06-17-2020 08:40 PM

The tariffs that americans have to pay, with no appreciable changes in China's trade?

Who cares when the taxpayers can subsidize those hurt by the trade war?

RainMaker 06-17-2020 09:02 PM

Doesn't seem like much has come from the trade war except a bunch of welfare for farmers.

It hasn't amounted to much.

However when they signed Phase I in Dec there were hopes there would be more but then we know what happened with 2020 "annus horribilis".

Regardless, I did appreciate his effort to try something different but unfortunately nothing much has changed and it's too late now because China will just wait him out.

JPhillips 06-17-2020 10:44 PM

With all the angst about cancel culture, it's important to realize that Trump and Barr are using the DoJ to stop publication of a book because it's embarrassing to the President. That seems at least as important as a picture on a processed syrup bottle.

Edward64 06-18-2020 12:39 AM

With the latest clash between China and India, if I was Trump I would take the opportunity to ramp up the strategic relationship with India and ultimately help be the counterweight to China.

China is a military and economic competitor to India. What better friend to have there especially since we know Pakistan is frenemy and in us leaving Afghanistan, Pakistan's importance is decreased.

We've been working on improving Indian relations for more than a decade now and seeing them as a balance to China. Though I think that's been more difficult with Modi in charge as he's looking like yet another right wing populist

Just as long as you don't go to the ER in like 5-10 years with any breathing problems because you know that's rarely a medical issue for anyone! It's all absurd. Of course Trump is absurd I really thought it went without saying in the echo chamber that he sucks.

You know, I always thought "W" was the worst president of my generation. Trump has destroyed that by a mile.

He and the majority of his idiot supporter have disgraced this country, they've embarrassed themselves for what they are.

The damage the Trump administration and his sycophants have done is unparalleled. I hope they are purged from the system in November and I hope some of them are thrown into prison.

I have yet to be inspired with confidence that they won't try to suppress votes, get authoritarianism abroad support or just outright steal the election but it is my hope that if Biden wins, they purge and purge Trump's cronies.

The amazing thing is: if Trump had any bit of self restraint he'd probably be coasting to re-election.

I still think W was worse than Trump.

Trump still hasn't got us into a purely optional war that cost us trillions of dollars and untold lives.

I thought "trigger" was kind of a mocking word. I didn't realize it was used sincerely as well, to the extent of being in university apologies.

College must be such a different experience today than it was when I went. We're going to have a massive generation gap. Where I'm not sure that people who came of age in say, the 70s, were that much different, and didn't have experiences so different, as people who came of age in the 90s and early 00s.

What a stupid goddamn administration. All they had to do was give *any* reasonable excuse to shut DACA down through proper procedures and Roberts would have agreed. This has happened a few times now. The Republic has been hanging on through their incompetence.

I had the exact same thought - I assumed "trigger" and " microaggression" and all those terms were things coined by people mocking what was actually going on. Like PC Principal. I didn't realize they were accepted terms used in everyday conversations with students as legitimate, non-ironical discussion points. And I have a rising senior in college.

I once accidentally undercut an attorney I was working with in a similar fashion during a contentious deposition and he was not happy about it at the time, although it became a running joke/story later on. Good times.

Triggers and microaggressions are both technical terms from psychology and sociology. For example, folks with PTSD can be triggered by a reminder of their trauma which brings on flashbacks, or a rape survivor could have symptoms triggered by a reminder of their assault. Microaggression is a term coined to be able to talk about those small acts of prejudice or discrimination which don't amount to an attack or an intentional act of racism, like touching a Black person's hair or assuming a woman is a nurse not a doctor, but which build up to an upsetting amount over time for the person subjected to them. These are real terms with real use and meaning.

JPhillips 06-18-2020 01:42 PM

I wouldn't worry too much about an apology at a school. Without knowing the details, like how many students complained, what was the nature of the class prior to the exam, etc., it's hard to know what was going on. A lot of times admin pressures professors to apologize just to move past issues. There is very little appetite to fight out issues.

At my institution a faculty member had to apologize because one student out of years of students complained that a particular lesson was sexual harassment. The administration just wanted the problem to go away and wasn't about to fight for academic freedom.

Yeah I did too. Especially the word "safe space" which I just assumed was like an Adam Carolla bit mocking the weak youth etc... Then the "poop swatiska" happened at Mizzou when the football team quit on Gary Pinkel and the crazy professor said no cameras these kids are in their safe space.
That was when my niece came to fill me in that a lot of this stuff is for real. She said a guy went into a corner during a lecture during a history class and the rest of the kids have to leave the room while he cooled down. Can't even fathom what some of the West Coast schools are like.
