Saw "The Way" on Prime.

Fan of Martin Sheen and it was overall enjoyable. The overall plot was good and I enjoyed the scenery of the "Camino de Santiago" trail aka The Way of St. James. May have to go on a pilgrimage myself one of these days.

Watchmen was pretty weird.

ISiddiqui 10-21-2019 01:55 PM

But pretty awesome at the same time. I don't remember a better pilot in recently history.

panerd 10-21-2019 02:34 PM

Was interested in Watchmen and will definitely give it a try but is this some sort of comic book adaptation that if I am not familiar with the source material then I won't really understand what is going on? Sometimes I really enjoy the comic book movies/shows because it is very clearly laid out (to the dismay of the hardcore I guess) and sometimes I am lost because I don't know any of the background. Just wondering which side this leans towards.

ISiddiqui 10-21-2019 02:37 PM

You don't need to have read the comic, but it helps a bit. It's set 35 years after the end of the comic. Things are a bit confusing but also for comic readers as well - so they'll likely flesh things out.

stevew 10-22-2019 04:25 PM

Watchmen was great. You can always watch the movie but it’s far from necessary.

ISiddiqui 10-22-2019 04:29 PM

The movie has a different ending than the comic, which makes certain parts of the show confusing.

Honolulu_Blue 10-22-2019 07:21 PM

I think reading the comic will enhance your enjoyment of the show. Very much so. That said, I don't think it will be necessary.

I loved it.

tarcone 10-23-2019 08:21 PM

Holy smokes. Surviving R. Kelly is an intense documentary. I remember the charges and stuff like that. But there is a whole different story to this guy. He is a monster. And the fact that he was still walking the streets is incredible.

I cannot take my eyes of this. It is insane. The power of people is incredible and frightening.

I believe he's been in jail for a few months.

Needs to be in jail forever.

It was incredibly difficult to watch but I'm so glad I did. I think about how many people knew about this in his inner circle and did nothing, how many other artists knew about this and still worked with him. Its really hard to comprehend how much you can get away with and for how long if you have money and/or fame.

Is this the Netflix thread or Donald Trump parading around as President thread?

Suicane75 10-24-2019 04:36 AM

Subscribed to Shudder for the month and I'm enjoying Creepshow through 3 eps. Thought 5/6 of the stories were at least good.

I was intrigued by the fact that they turned Wolf Creek into a series, so I binged the first season and I enjoyed it for the most part. If you're a horror fan i highly recommend the first movie, it's great. The 2nd one got a bit silly for my tastes but ymmv. The series is more in line with the tone of the first movie, but there is a little too much filler. I still enjoyed it.

CarterNMA 10-26-2019 12:41 PM

I finally watched Stranger Things. I liked it. As I approach 50 I'm getting seriously nostalgic and this speaks to me cuz I would have been slightly older than these kids in '83 and would have been in the hay days of my D&D obsession.

Edward64 10-27-2019 07:52 PM

Finished watching Prime's Gallipoli TV series showing it from the ANZAC perspective.

I read the series wasn't well accepted back home but I thought it was well done. Yeah, wasn't much character development but it showed 'glimpses' of horrors of trench warfare, the incompetence of the generals, war correspondents, some humanity between the Turks & ANZAC etc.

I'm sure the real thing was multiples worse but it definitely gave me a better appreciation of what happened then. Made me google more to better understand the history of it.

tarcone 10-27-2019 08:46 PM

Watched Dolemite is my Name

Never heard of this guy. I wish I had. What a character. A man with no quit in him. Andmknown as the Godfather of rap.

Really good movie.

If you are into fantasy, go ahead and take December 20 off of work.

That's the date Netflix is releasing its series "The Witcher."
The streaming giant made that announcement via a trailer.

I've been curious about it. I usually have to play something when I go to bed and I started this as I was dozing off, but stopped it. It seemed too emotionally charged for a show that would play in the background.

I'll go back to it.

Subby 11-07-2019 01:14 PM

Just making sure everyone is watching Watchmen, because it is incredible.

Peteypedia | HBO

Great for adding background to the show (Watchmen). h/t to Sepinwall for mentioning the site in one of his reviews.

sabotai 11-07-2019 02:22 PM

Just watched The Devil Next Door, a documentary about the trial of John Demjanjuk, alleged SS member and operator of the gas chamber at the Treblinka death camp nicknamed "Ivan the Terrible". Thumbs Up

RainMaker 11-07-2019 02:54 PM

This is the latest trailer for The Witcher. I'm pumped.

tarcone 11-07-2019 04:32 PM

I watched Fire in Paradise. It is a short film about a wild fire that wiped out Paradise, CA.

This is one of most frightening shows I've ever seen. So raw. So unreal.

I can imagine. It's a terrible event.

It's weird to see you post about "a wildfire that wiped out Paradise, CA" in the same way if I read someone write "a world war in the 1940s" or "rwo planes hitting a NYC skysxraper in 2001." It's probably the most notable wildfire story of the last several years.

Maybe this stuff gets more play out here in CA.

Groundhog 11-07-2019 06:29 PM

It got international press here, but to be honest I had to google it just now to remember it at all.

tarcone 11-07-2019 06:50 PM

I honestly do not remember it. I guess I watch the ones in Colorado more closely. My parents used to have a cabin in central Colorado.

It was interesting how the one fire fighter kept telling his wife that each wildfire prior to the Camp fire was unprecedented. His wife told him to stop saying it. He realized that those fires were doing things based on climate change. And the fires were never going to be the same.

I second the Thumbs Up. Very incredible story. I vaguely remember all this happening.

PilotMan 11-10-2019 11:10 AM

Rick and Morty are not streaming new episodes yet... but you can still watch all 3 seasons on hulu. My boys and I all watch it constantly.

Groundhog 11-10-2019 08:31 PM

Only made it through half of the first episode of The Watchmen last night before my daughter woke up, but my initial impressions are that it's very odd and not at all what I expected.

Full disclosure I am not a comic book guy but we tried to watch the movie several years ago and had to turn it off it was so bad.

Groundhog 11-10-2019 09:20 PM

The movie was not great. The comic is maybe my favourite comic series of all time though.

stevew 11-12-2019 09:15 AM

The ESPN/Hulu/Disney + bundle is a good deal.

tarcone 11-12-2019 09:30 AM

ESPN+ does not offer the major sports though, correct? Just off brand stuff like volleyball for college. I know they got inot the MMA game, but no major college sports.

They have major sports also. Lots of hockey and occasionally other stuff.

I have it for soccer, but checking now and they have a lot of college basketball too. For example, they have over 40 games tonight.

It pisses me off because I already have the other 2, ESPN+ yearly and Hulu with no commercials. I want a deal credit.

I use it to watch all the NDSU football games, and so I can download the 30 for 30's on my Fire Tablet to watch to and from work.

tarcone 11-12-2019 10:05 AM

Okay, so the 30 for 30s and the lower division stuff. And BB games that are not on ESPN 1, 2, or 3.

That piques my interest a little more.

Are you adding this to your streaming services or are you planning on dropping Netflix?

Im getting into cable range if I get this, netflix and prime.

molson 11-12-2019 10:18 AM

If you like the 30 for 30 type stuff there's a ton of that on ESPN+. It also includes the premium content on ESPN.com (that used to be ESPN Insider).

I'm going to cancel Netflix for a while next month after my girlfriend finishes the next season of The Crown. The streaming services can certainly add up, but it's easy to drift between them and mix it up if you want to keep your monthly TV cost low.

Hulu Help

This page might be helpful.

Quote:

Eligible existing Hulu subscribers

Eligible existing Hulu subscribers are able to sign up for the Disney bundle while maintaining their current Hulu subscription.* If you already have Hulu, you’re eligible to get the Disney bundle as long as:

You’re 18 or older
You live in the United States
Your Hulu subscription is in good standing
You don’t receive your Hulu subscription through Spotify or a promotional offer (unless otherwise permitted by Hulu or Disney)

*Third-party billing limitations may apply.

Before getting the bundle, there are a few things to keep in mind as an existing Hulu subscriber:

You’ll need to sign up for the bundle via Disney+ (not Hulu)
You’ll need to use the same email address associated with your Hulu account
You’ll have new Disney+ and ESPN+ accounts along with your existing Hulu account
You will continue to be billed separately for your Hulu subscription
As long as you keep your eligible existing Hulu account, Disney will give you a credit towards your Disney bundle subscription in the amount of $5.99/month — the value of the Hulu (ad-supported) plan included in the Disney bundle (however, you’ll keep the Hulu plan you have)

Ready to get started? To sign up for the bundle:

Visit Disney+ on a web or mobile browser
Enter the same address associated with your Hulu subscription
Complete the rest of the signup process (i.e. password, billing information, etc.)
You’re all set!

Moving forward, if you wish to switch Hulu plans or add/remove any add-ons, you can continue to do so as before — either on Hulu, if you’re billed directly through us, or via your third party.

ISiddiqui 11-12-2019 11:31 AM

Disney+ is crashing big time this morning (to be expected). I get a year free with Verizon. Just reading online it seems the level of 4k HDR is insane (including the Star Wars original trilogy!!)

RainMaker 11-12-2019 01:46 PM

Not sure what to think of Watchmen. I like it, but it's also been 4 episodes of tons of mystery and questions with almost no answers. I love Lindelof stuff but he really loves piling on mystery and I hope he finds a way to resolve all this in the final episodes.

stevew 11-12-2019 02:00 PM

I loved the first episode i saw of that Peyton Manning show.

thesloppy 11-12-2019 04:10 PM

I'ma watch a super legal copy of that Mandalorian show on my legit subscription to Disney+ right now.

Groundhog 11-12-2019 04:51 PM

All these different streaming services cancelling each other's libraries out must be doing wonders for torrent sites.

I’ve been loving it so far. They’ve done a really great job. The answers to the mysteries really aren’t all that important to me at this point. I am just enjoying the ride and what they’ve done with the universe. I felt very similarly about The Leftovers, which I loved.
