Also - German in a lot of those states is pretty damn surprising.

EDIT - just for the lack of Asian languages given the rate of immigration in the US over the past 5-10 years, I'd either guess this thing is old, or it's using some sort of funky methodology.

According to the Census numbers, there are 1.5 people claiming Filipino ancestry in California vs. 1.4 million people claiming Chinese ancestry, so the claim is believable.

REPRESENT!

But, yeah. Most of my relatives reside in Hawaii or California.

Hell, when I went to Hawaii back in 2007, nearly 3/4 of the airport staff were Filipino.

A lot of photos so I'll link it. Real photos of North Korea. What's striking to me is the complete lack of fat people.

Had tears in my eyes for a couple of minutes after seeing this. Happy Jurassic Park Day, indeed.

sterlingice 05-21-2014 05:58 PM

What's the significance of May 21, 2014 in the Jurassic Park universe?

SI

nol 05-21-2014 06:29 PM

Absolutely nothing. It's making fun of how every couple months a meme like this

goes viral and has people saying "OMG this is the day Marty McFly visits when he goes to the future in Back to the Future II! Why don't we have hoverboards yet har har har" because you can count on morons to not realize that anyone can easily edit the date and to not have the long-term memory to remember the last dozen times it made the rounds.

That's what you get when you try to divide by zero. Kids at Somerset Community College thought they were clever. Now they can be clever in jail.

britrock88 05-27-2014 11:32 AM

I told them that they shouldn't try to derive that formula.

A letter from camp:

flere-imsaho 06-06-2014 08:37 AM

If I got that letter I'd be so proud that my child trusted me enough to tell me all that. And then I'd start drinking. :D

cartman 06-10-2014 06:49 PM

So this is a pic I posted a while back. A buddy of mine just got back from a trip to France, and the crazy f'er did a tandem paraglide from up there down into Chamonix. Nearly 9000 vertical feet from jump spot to landing spot.

He's a former Airborne Ranger, so he's used to jumping. He was also the guy I flew against when we got to do Air Combat USA back in 1997. Doesn't make him any less crazy. :)

The only way you get me to jump off that is with a gun.

Toddzilla 06-20-2014 10:25 AM

Why would you jump off a cliff with a gun?

It was funny that they billed the Red Bull cliff diving event as being in Fort Worth, but it was actually about 75 miles west at Possum Kingdom Lake.

CU Tiger 06-20-2014 03:15 PM

I would so do that in a heartbeat....but Im not doing back flips and such....Im just jumping in feet first.

Damn reminds me of some of my best childhood memories...we used to go to the old rock quarry and jump off this 45-50 ft ledge into the water it was literally like sky diving, base jumping and swimming rolled into one.

tarcone 06-20-2014 03:29 PM

We jumped off bridges. One was near campus. It was probably 30-40 feet up. We jumped into a river. Which, in hindsight, was dumb. You never know whats floating down the river. Of course, we werent too smart. We would buy some Red, White, and Blue ($3.99 a 12 pack) and go bridge jumping.
Another favorite spot was a train trestle. It had the metal supports going up. That was probably 50 feet or more. Good times.

I was also a bridge jumper in high school. Only we didn't have river, we had a creek (or "crick" as the locals pronounced it). So we dammed it up downstream, got it to pool up into a swimmin' hole about 15 feet deep and jumped off the top of a railroad bridge. Tied big ropes to the underside as well, so you could swing out over the swimmin' hole (just don't hang on too long and start coming back toward the bridge supports - THAT would be dangerous).
