Swaggs do you get to use your ability at any point during the day or is it lynch time only?

To play devil's advocate some more.. What if Anxiety did provide Spleen the name Hob, granted it would be silly rediculous for him to make the name mistake calling himself nob multiple times when that was Chief's role...

but he did say he was the stable boy which indeed was Bob's job. So to play devil's advocate, what if it was Anxiety who mixed up the names and not Spleen.

So to tackle this from a different viewpoint, how would he have known to call himself the stable boy but mess up the name if he didnt have the role?

I'm telling you guys, I'm a good guy and my name not matching the book has no bearing on the game.

I actually don't like this arguement, not for wolfish reasons but for gamemanship reasons. I don't think its fair to assume Anxiety posted that because you were good or to assume its because you were bad. There can be arguements made for both sides.

I think Anxiety's post instead directs us to look at this from a different viewpoint, which is what i attempted to do with my last post.

Grammaticus 11-10-2006 04:21 PM

Oh and for clarification, Veteran’s Day is tomorrow, but likely celebrated at the workplace today. For example my company took our Armed Services Veteran’s to lunch today. Veteran’s Day is November 11th every year.

DaddyTorgo 11-10-2006 04:21 PM

hmmmm

so it's spleen today we are focused on? and then attention turning to ntndeacon or sublime 2?

are we content to put spleen to the test today without a two-horse race to try to put pressure on someone else?

spleen's slip-up combined with his general play in this game has been suspicious, and I have actually been eyeing him for the past several days wondering (illuvatar's honest truth).

To follow up on this, if he wasn't the stable boy, wouldn't the real stable boy (regardless of what he is named) have stood up by now to say that he was the stable boy and Spleen is lying? I mean stable boy isnt really a super secret role to hide when the rest of us have revealed roles

DaddyTorgo 11-10-2006 04:23 PM

interesting that everyone Thom has scanned has come up clean...someone want to do the math on the odds of that?

Hmm... dunno what to make of our GM message, but I'm leaning towards Alan's reasoning.

Yesterday, I was fishing around to see if there was a player named "Bob," as he was also a worker at the Inn, but no one stepped forward and now I would not trust anyone who did.

As a barkeep, I have the ability to make people comfortable enough to tell me the truth. I can do this only once every two nights. If you will notice, I have been trying, with pretty poor results, my ass off since day one to make people come out and say that they were on the side of light.

Even though I kept fishing and fishing, I could not find any quote of value on Night 1. On Night 2, I caught Lathum saying, "Honestly I am a plain villegar so if I am lynched all you'll get is voting patterns which could be helpfull," which I found out to be true. He was not on the block the following day, so I kept the information to myself and he was lynched that night.

Yesterday, there were a number of folks who made usable statements, including Thomkal and Izulde. And I even asked Blade which he suspected more... but then Thomkal made an even better quote in self defense, "I get which side they are on-light, darkness. I have viewed Jonathan, Mr. W, and Schmidty-all are good." Unfortunately, I found out that my ability only works on one fact, so after thinking about it, I chose to the part about whether or not Jon, Mr. W, and Schmidty are all good and Thomkal believes that they are.

These four players: Jonathan, Mr. Wednesday, Schmidty, and Thomkal all jump into my circle of trust. Alan and Izulde are now on the cusp of it, as well. And Alan's list is very similar to my own, it appears, so I think we now have the ability to break things open.

Swaggs sorry for all the questions.. just trying to figure out how to handle this.. In this post you reveal your role and reveal Nob and Bob, but dont say anything about the stable worker... In your role description are you told about two brothers working for you? Or just basing it off of Chief Rum's death?

ntndeacon 11-10-2006 04:25 PM

Alan, I would like to throw you a hypothetical.

Let's make the assumption that I am good for the time being (Since it is just a hypothetical at the moment you can play along :) ) How would knowing I was good change the game right now besides getting the lynch pressure Ihave recieved off and on to stop. Who would become more suspected?

Who do you think it should go to? :)

Swaggs 11-10-2006 04:27 PM

I'm not moving off of Spleen today.

I just don't buy his story. I think he looked up my name on wikipedia or Google and saw the names Nob and Bob on there. I can't look past the fact that he gave the name of someone who was already killed and didn't correct it until called on it. If he had corrected it himself, I may have believed him, but I suspect he didn't want to draw further attention to it after realizing his mistake and then made up this Hob story.

DaddyTorgo 11-10-2006 04:27 PM

A spleen vote seems the most logical to me at this point that's for true.

Sublime 2 11-10-2006 04:28 PM

Well I'm heading to the bar...in case I get too inebriated at the Prancing Pony:

Vote Spleen

Despite Anxiety's message, spleen still slipped up more than once calling himself by CR's name. Too many accidents for me.

DaddyTorgo 11-10-2006 04:29 PM

VOTE SPLEEN

I'm in from my 6 hours of hell at work, so excepting a couple short breaks I should be around till lynch

I went back to look. For some reason it was in my head that he had corrected himself right afterwards. But it actually went to the next page before someone called him on it that he said oops typo.

My name is Nob and I am a stableworker, a hobbit servant of Barliman Butterbur at the Inn of the Prancing Pony. I am a paranoid little fellow, so I hide from everyone at night even if I trust them. I can choose to not hide if I want to, but I don't see any reason to do so at this point. If I say that I'm not hiding on a given night, then that just opens me up for the baddies. So, it's not worth it to me.

My role description did not say anything about my stable workers. I found that information when I looked up the name on wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barliman_Butterbur

Quote:

Barliman Butterbur is a fictional character from J. R. R. Tolkien's epic fantasy The Lord of the Rings.

Butterbur was the owner of the Inn of the Prancing Pony in Bree. He was a Man, but as Bree was inhabited by both Men and hobbits, he had two hobbit employees: Bob, who worked in the stables, and Nob, a servant.

I, not so subtly, asked last night if anyone's name rhymed with Chief Rum's name because I suspected that if his name was in the game, then Bob's name could also be in the game and could be another friendly player.

My beef with Spleen is that, out of all the letters available on the keyboard, he made the "Nob" error twice. I think he probably looked up my name and saw that and, without paying much attention to the Chief Rum lynching results, made that connection without being as careful as he should have been.

spleen1015 11-10-2006 04:33 PM

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Hobbits

Where is the name Bob on this list, Alan? I see two Hobs but no Bob. Everyone is banking your knowledge of LotR to make their votes against me, yet there is no Bob. Granted, I did screw up with the typo and I can live with that. Just don't vote for me because my name doesn't match what Alan is saying is in the books.

With that, I'm not going to fight my lynch anymore. I will just answer questions that I'm asked. When I am lynched, you'll see that I am a Hobbit named Hob and I am the stableworker and I am a townsfolk.

Today has been a turning point in the game with all of the information that has been thrown out there. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Alan, Swaggs and LSG are the baddies.

Swaggs 11-10-2006 04:35 PM

...and, by the way, it says there that Bob was the stable worker and Nob was a servant.

Most people assumed Bob was a man and not a hobbit in the stories.

My vote doesn't even matter at this point, but to make sure I follow the rules, I am going to vote.

Even after Anxiety stated that voting based on information that is found in the books and outside of this game is a poor choice, Swaggs continues to post more and more about it.

What's the use?

I was waiting for this question.

I am voting for you because if the 3 of you are baddies, then I think you are the leader of this push. I think you guys saw an opening to have another good guy lynched and you've orchestrated it.

I'm furious about the whole stinking situation. I make an honest typo mistake then add into the fact that you guys aren't listening to what the GM is telling you and it is going to get me lynched.

Maybe I am taking it a little to serious, but I do that with trival things all of the time. :)

BTW, Anxeity, thanks for the curse word filter. I would be dropping f-bombs left and right at this point, but I'm making a good effort at respecting your rules. :D

Besides my typo, the whole basis of their argument are the books, which Anxiety has clearly said shouldn't be factored into voting decisions.

It doesn't matter at this point. I want to be lynched now. So, if you've voted for me, continue to do so.

Fair enough then :)

And for whatever its worth, I was pushing the conversation past the out of game knowledge stuff in regards to you. The thing that convinced me to keep my vote on you isnt the out of game knowledge, it was JE catching you claiming the same name as someone already dead. The only time I brought up out of game stuff was when people asked me direct questions (including the one you asked)

If you are good, then it was just a bad day to claim the same name as someone already dead, typo or not.. was a bad day for that slip up.

izulde used this type of ploy too during the game i played with him. the "fine just kill me now and get it over with, i'm actually good" play.

Well since one of the seers is possibly false Iwould say the false seer, of course that begs the question who that is. I am of the opinion Lonestargirl is the true seer. so in my mind Thomkal would be up there in terms of folks to vote for. if we are to avoid that problem (still am wishy washy on whether it woulkd help or not.) then we run into some problem for every day we have been getting villager vs villager. We really need to be looking for people that haven't had a lot of pressure on them at this point.

No offense to you, but since none of our 3 seers have identified anyone yet, go over your record today:

You claim to be a character named Nob, even though the character Nob (Chief Rum) has already been lynched.

You claim an occupation very similar to Chief's Nob: "Nob was a hobbit servant at the Prancing Pony Inn, and he kept a small room there, underneath the Inn." (from post 786).

You don't acknowledge that you gave the wrong name until after someone else lets you know that there was already a Nob.

I asked if there was anyone with a similar name to Nob yesterday, as we were trying to build a circle of trust, and you kept quiet.

You claim that you twice made a typo calling yourself Nob.

Even if you are on the side of light, who is a better candidate today than you are? If you are on the side of light, I apologize, but you are the best candidate we have today and, frankly the best candidate that we have had in this game.

It's cool. I see that you were posting the possibility of this being an unintentional mixed up. I'm not really mad at anyone person. I'm more bothered that I gave up my role and information in the hopes that people would trust me. So, I've learned a lesson for the next time I play.

I understand this spleen. I hate giving out my info. I want to be able to use that later against others if neccesary. Even in a vanilla role it is handy for that info to not be out. :)

I already told Gram that I didn't acknowledge it last night because I was bowling. GO back and look at every game I have played in. I have been unavailable from 7:30pm~11:30pm every Monday and Thursday. After rading through everything, I totaly forgot about your question and just like I told Gram I thought your question was directed at Izulde.

I didn't acknoledge that I gave the wrong name until someone pointed it out because I didn't know I made the mistake.

I have in fact made the typo twice. I'm anxious to say my piece. Why would I purposely put the wrong name out there twice?

Who is a better candidate? Thomkal for one. Other than the events of today, I haven't done anything that makes me suspicious. You can't tell me the circumstances around Thomkal's reveal and all of the vote moving is not a whole lot more suspicious than anything I have done outside of today.

I'll say it again. They way you and Alan are going after this really makes me believe you are the baddies. Chief Rum pulled the same trick in the RE game. Luckily for me, his attempt didn't work.

DaddyTorgo 11-10-2006 05:03 PM

I'd say that Thomkal , Gram and Weds are suspicious to me personally.

Thom because well...we all know. Weds for all the late switching, and Gram less so but because Thom fingered him today and could be trying to slip some of his teammates through into the "vouched for" list.

So in these two posts you have suggested that all of the seers are out to get us :)

Thomkal 11-10-2006 05:04 PM

Okay I'm caught up at last. First let me apologize for not revealing my scan this morning. I got out of bed just to post that I wasn't going to be around and could barely focus. I didn't think to mention my scan until later, and I wasn't in any shape to get online again. I'm sure those of you with migraines can understand. I truly have a migraine (let Swaggs view that with his power. :)

My name is Antaria Lodestock, a female.
My role is farmer
As I mentioned in my first post in the game I believe, I mentioned I sold vegetables to Mr. Underhill and his party. That is how my "seer" powers work. In talking to the people who buy vegetables from me and seeing them around town, I have a good sense of them, and due to my women's intuition, I can determine which side (light, darkness, etc) they are on.

I'm guessing my seer abilities don't work the same way LSG's does, so she'll likely to go all out of me again. All I can say is that I too am surprised there are more than one seer in the game. But I am a seer and I have at least three people who have revealed that they are indeed good since I revealed my views on them. Plus Swaggs has confirmed my comment with his power.
