I can vouch for New York and Massachusetts apparently following through on their desires. I can't go to a Rays game against those two teams without half the stands filled with Yankees or Bo Sox fans. |

I guess President Bartlett was right.

Amen. It's allergy season in southern Indiana. You can see the pollen float through the air. Of course this happens during one of the most pleasant months weather wise. Once the pollen settles down, the high humidity and temperatures will settle in. |

Hallstatt, Austria http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hallstatt |
I've been to Hallstatt. Just a fantastic trip. If you take the train (and you should - it's beautiful) the train station is on the other side of the lake, so you take a boat over (I think the reason for this is that the mountains are so steep you can have the road on one side of the valley and the train on the other side, but not both).
If you like to hike, it's heaven. I stayed 3 days, and did a different 8 hour hike each day. |
Not sure this belongs in here, but The Atlantic is doing a "World War I in Pictures" series to commemorate the 100 year anniversary, a new set of photographs every Monday. Today is part II.

I'm missing the "cool" part of that video
|
I'm trying to figure out who got a copy of a video from my last family reunion.
|
definitely not cool at all unless I'm missing some hidden joke
|
Yeah... I don't really find "fighting" or seeing people inflict harm on other people as "cool"...
|
Especially one blatantly staged like that.
|
I guess some thinks it's cool to inflict violence upon another, esp. on women, whether staged or not.

fwiw, shovel chickfight is apparently blowing up Twitter today (currently #Shovel is #7 in the US). The Vine is part of a much longer video on YouTube, about 8 minutes worth.

Cool in that it's an open-and-shut ADW charge for the state?
|
Might have been nice if they put the damn phone down and stopped the psycho chick.
|
I don't much think pictures of mountains are cool...to each his own.
|
Comments on twitter for the shovel thing are unreal. How is assault funny?

I'm sure she'll claim to be ADD, bi-polar, or that her mommy didn't hug her enough as a child and get acquitted. |

I think the starting point is probably the throwing of the shovel. I mean, as effective use of a weapon goes, that's high quality stupidity right there. And, based on several articles I read when trying to figure out the source of the Vine, there was discussion of ground rules prior to the fight. It's not like one of them Pearl Harbored the other or something. It's kind of the white girl version of the Sharkeisha video, except with less sneak attack. |
Perhaps it's because this could have easily happened right around here.
FWIW, I don't think it's possible to have a better breakdown of a shovel fight than that. :D |

Maybe she'll get hit with a shovel a few more times and the herd will be properly thinned. |
White Trash Shovel Fighting has been around since the turn of last century. About time it started getting a boost from social media.

A map with the "most desirable" colleges by State. "Most Desirable" was determined by number of applications submitted to a school.

Eat that, Notre Dame!

Look at that big ol' Tigerhawk in the middle. That warms my heart.

Northwestern over UIUC? Duke over UNC? Washington U in Missouri? UCF over... anything else in Florida?
SI |
Well they go by number of applications.
A quick check finds that UCF had around 32k, Florida had 27k, and FSU had 29k |
