My 10 year old is loving every minute of it. What may be better is we took my 21 year old niece and her boyfriend to dinner tonight and had intelligent and engaging conversation about the election. They are both smart kids, but their understanding of this election and politics in general was way better than mine was at that age. |

Harris was amazing.
Anyone notice neither of them have mentioned Trump? |

I am impressed and hopeful and relieved EDIT: And inspired |
How does Tru,mp overcome that?

Biden totally landed the ending of that speech. Never knew he could give such an inspiring speech.

We need to cooperate and that's what I plan to do and I'll call on Congress to do the same. They need a message for when McConnell inevitably says no. What do they do when the GOP doesn't want to cooperate? Obama didn't have a good answer for that. |
Just unreal how different this all is after the past four years.

I hope that the countries atmosphere is different.
I hope they see what they had in Trump and cooperate in the exact opposite way of the last 4 years. I hope Biden is a leader. I hope Harris governs and has some great ideas she can make work. Free healthcare, more money for education. |

The question is will Mcconnell let them? Joe has already started to. |

Frankly it depends on who she voted in this fucked up election sorry to say. |
I was just about as good a speech as he could’ve given under the circumstances.

Great speech overall. So happy to have some dignity restored. We will see how much policy can get done but this should help the healing, unity and dignity of the country

It's the first time in a couple of years that I've had some serious hope. Like I get that it'll be dashed the minute he tries to do something in the Senate, but it was the right message at the right time. Biden's combination of empathetic mourner and unifier is what we really need right now. Let's hope it works. SI |
Take from just about the biggest news plattform/weekly in germany. No pressure ;) Thought both speeches were good |
Felt good to take a moment to breath today.
Now they just need to prevent trump from trashing the country out of tantrum over the next two months. |
dola: or does he step down and turn it over to Pence, he does have a history of running away once the consequences of his mismanagement start to take shape.

Yeah, people shouldn't be allowed to vote if their opinion differs from yours. Shut up, you idiot. |

I like Yang (got his t-shirt for the novelty) but think he is too lightweight for that Top-5 post. Maybe deputy and prime him for 2nd term? |

If they could get off of Twitter too that would be great.

Yeah why do they keep talking about going to Parler on other social media sites. Just go already.

FWIW, woke up this morning, got a cup of coffee, started reading news, and then realized ...
Hope majority of us that voted for Biden enjoyed yesterday. Remember the feeling. Likely the peak of euphoria and better than fair chance it all goes downhill politically from here. Biden is the proverbial "in between a rock (GOP) and hard place (radical left)" and has coronavirus event to deal with. |
Cool that he is a dog person and has a rescue German Shepard.

We know how Parler is going to end up, it's going to become 4-Chan. If there's really no content moderation, once it reaches enough users, it will start to fill up with violent and abusive content, pornography, endless spam and bots, etc. These people are looking for a Q friendly Twitter, but there's no money in that.

I still don't know what the radical left is? People who want clean energy? People who want healthcare? |
I think I know how Trump is going to steal the election, or at least try. They are going to wait until very late into the process before filing any actual fraud claims. They have only up to this point tried to slow down the counting (and notice they did that even in states where he was down). What they are trying to do is run out the clock on certification. If they can delay the count for so long, then delay the recounts for so long they can prevent certification by the state legislated days. What happens if an election never gets certified? My understanding the electors will be chosen by the state legislatures. They will file suits in GOP controlled states, enough to over turn the election. Meanwhile, there is no way that trials would ever finish in time. It is simple playing out the clock. His people will be fine with it since they already believe that the election is stolen.
Will it work? It is really up to the courts. Would they put a stay on certifying the election without some real evidence? |

Interesting scenario, never thought of this. I have to believe Biden's lawyers have put this in their "risk register" and have/will formulate a defense. |
Pennsylvania's state Senate Majority leader (GOP) a couple days ago
“The PA election code says electors go to the popular vote winner. The Legislature has no ability to appoint electors.” |
This from the Detriot Free Press:
Dec. 8 — “Safe Harbor” deadline The Electoral Count Act, which Congress passed in 1887, contains a “safe harbor” clause that frees a state from further legal challenge if it certifies its election results at least six days before the state’s electors meet. That means that if the state issues a final tally of the votes cast in its presidential contest by Dec. 8, 2020, Congress is required to accept the state’s electoral votes. If legal disputes remain unresolved, Congress could decide which slate of electoral votes to count. |

He said "troops" not "church. Not sure where you watched it but I checked it out on youtube (working while it was live) and one station had a close up of Joe as he made the comment and you can clearly read his lips. The first one I watched, as he made this comment, was from far away and I thought of your comment and went "huh, I think that is troops, not church". Found this video that is right on Biden as he makes the comment. Approx. the 15 minute mark "may God protect our troops" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkqWtrj1oAk |
He has said God bless out troops at the end of almost every time I saw him speak.

This kind of BS is why Biden is ultimately going to fail in unifying the country, regardless of how badly he wants it and tries. Things are only going to get worse, not better. I hope I'm wrong. I hope the same way 4 years of constantly listening to Trump caused tensions to boil over, perhaps 4 years of listening to calm grandpa will have an effect on the collective American psyche. But as long as the right is listening to and believing this crap, it won't happen.

In addition to the coronavirus task first, here are some "quick" wins Biden is thinking about via executive orders.
When will he announce his cabinet (or at least the top posts)? https://www.washingtonpost.com/polit...dc2_story.html Quote:

Yeah, totally understand. If I hadn't read your post and been listening closely I'm not sure what I would have heard. Add to that I had to find the close view video to confirm what I thought I heard :) |
