G'n'R? Never heard of them.

I was gonna ask you to pick for me if I wasn't around, but, umm...

Maple Leafs 02-22-2007 01:51 PM

Crapshoot, go ahead and pick whenever you're ready. I have to leave at 3:00 for a bit so maybe we can get past my pick before then.

ntndeacon 02-22-2007 01:53 PM

I am about to go to class until 3:30. Do you want a list from me Maple? i have 4 songs ready for picking.

st.cronin 02-22-2007 01:55 PM

Am I the only one who thinks this is more fun than the NFL draft?

Thanks guys. :) This was pretty much my logic.

I bet he knew! He didn't want you to block his pick. Damn psychics.

Crapshoot 02-22-2007 01:56 PM

Will do.

Substituting for Bucc, with the 2.2 pick:

Edit: I'm an idiot.

The no duplicating artists rule makes this game what it is I think... otherwise it would just be full of like 15 or so artists...

Substituting for Bucc, with the 2.2 pick:

For the The Anti-Establishment Song I take The Clash - London Calling. They used to call The Clash "the only band that matters", and there's basically the zenith of punk rock - back when punk meant something, as opposed to Sum 41 and Good Charlotte or whatever the heck passes for punk now. London Calling is one of the most eerie, haunting songs you'll ever here - with a giant F.U to the world at large.

Bucc already has an anti-establishment song.

Not a bad song, but I think anti-establishment is such a deep position that you don't really need to reach at this stage.

I give the pick a B-

F for not reading the directions. ;)

Crapshoot 02-22-2007 02:04 PM

Sorry about that - busy at work and got confused. Give me 2 min.

ISiddiqui 02-22-2007 02:04 PM

Yeah, needs to be a repick there.

Maple Leafs 02-22-2007 02:04 PM

Ironically, you've shown your contempt for the establishment by not following the posted rules.

Lathum 02-22-2007 02:05 PM

I love that song and the Clash but I think that pick is a stretch there. I would say 80% of the voters will have no clue what that song is.

Crapshoot 02-22-2007 02:06 PM

With the "revised" pick 2.2, Bucc/Crapshoot take
I can't get no satisfaction by the Rolling Stones in the Epic category. Perhaps the greatest song by the greatest rock band in history - can't go wrong with that.

that too

Maple Leafs 02-22-2007 02:08 PM

So Bucc's list is now:

Classic -
Epic - 2.2 - Satisfaction - Rolling Stones
Arena -
Trendsetter -
Love Song -
One-Hit Wonder -
Party -
Crossover -
Cover -
Anti-Establishment - 1.9 - Fight the Power - Public Enemy

lordscarlet is up

Maple Leafs 02-22-2007 02:08 PM

I like the pick, but is Satisfaction really an epic (vs. just a classic)?

st.cronin 02-22-2007 02:10 PM

If he had gone with the Britney Spears version, he could have gotten the woman out of the way, and kept the Stones on the board for a later pick.

Poor planning.

rkmsuf 02-22-2007 02:12 PM

You have to go Hootie and the Blowfish here.

:D

I didn't think the Stones would last past this round. ML's right - in retrospect, I would have put it in the Classic category, as opposed to the Epic.

lordscarlet 02-22-2007 02:14 PM

Modification to "The Bucc rule". I think he should be allowed to keep the song and change categories.

Totally with you here.

Logan 02-22-2007 02:14 PM

I sense a gigantic "HUH??!!?" coming from Bucc in a couple hours.

st.cronin 02-22-2007 02:14 PM

I think ML should move it to classic.

I thought the same thing

lordscarlet 02-22-2007 02:15 PM

dola: give me a few mins to fight with myself and I will have my pick. :)

Yeah, I deleted my comment (and also my commentary).

On the other hand, is Crapshoot a co-owner or just a proxy for us to help Bucc make the best choice to beat us? ;)

Lathum 02-22-2007 02:18 PM

does anyone else get the feeling the one hit wonders are gonna be like closers in a baseball draft. Once someone picks one there will be a mad scramble on them

Nope.

st.cronin 02-22-2007 02:20 PM

I was thinking that would happen with covers, actually.

lordscarlet 02-22-2007 02:22 PM

Classic -
Epic -
Arena -
Trendsetter - 2.3 - "Rapper's Delight", The Sugarhill Gang
Love Song -
One-Hit Wonder -
Party -
Crossover - 1.8 - "Walk This Way", Run-D.M.C. feat. Aerosmith
Cover -
Anti-Establishment -

My pick last round factored in picking again 4 slots later; I could have easily taken "Rapper's Delight" at 1.8. My original pre-draft email to ML said that I wanted trendsetter first no matter what (I had "Smells Like Teen Spirit" originally.) This was still a tough pick for me. I had some thoughts in other categories since 1.8 and some other thoughts here. I will expand when it will no longer help anyone else.

On to "Rapper's Delight". It is the definitive rap song. There is no argument as to what started the genre, hell, it named the genre. I couldn't go with a better trendsetter. I don't know that this is quite the Tony Gonzalez pick that "Walk This Way" was, but I think it's like picking between LT, LJ and Alexander.

Lathum 02-22-2007 02:23 PM

guess I'm weird

Subby 02-22-2007 02:23 PM

Very strong pick in the trendsetter category.

lordscarlet draft so far: A+

Lordscarlet, did you grow up a rap fan?

I am just wondering because I have never heard of the sugarhill gang and your first pick was also a rap song, kind of.

I agree, I think he's just about lapped the competition at this point. This draft is now for second place.

lordscarlet 02-22-2007 02:25 PM

Oh, and.. Maple Leafs is on the clock at 2.4!

I knew people would think this. But, no. I grew up with Country in the 80s, Grunge Rock, Country and some mainstream rap in the 90s, and primarily indie rock and punk rock in the 00s.

Lathum 02-22-2007 02:27 PM

Raise your hand if you have heard of The Organization !!
