Finally, a Biden news conference on Mar 25 !!

Yeah, he's a busy guy and he should say "sorry folks, I've only now gotten a breather from the Covid crisis and the stimulus bill".

I don't buy that he couldn't break away and do a news conference. But it's a satisfactory excuse considering vaccinations supply & shots seem to finally be ramping up and last weeks passage of the stimulus.

Edward64 03-16-2021 08:50 PM

Not specific to Biden but what the heck ..

It's hard to feel sorry for someone that willingly returned to the Lion's den for some miscalculated sense of importance/relevance. More power to you and hope you turn out to be a Nelson Mandela ... but I'm thinking the odds are significantly against you.

Yup, it's pending in my bank account right now.

I'll probably do the boring thing and just invest it in my mutual fund.

Biden should be focusing on Xi (let EU worry about Putin) and possibly, Iran.

Read the AK summit hasn't gone well but guess that is to be expected. Hoping he plays hardball with China ... not the Trump-like, meandering hardball but one with a long-term strategy with friendly countries.

tarcone 03-18-2021 08:57 PM

How about a Putin-Biden- Jung Un- Rouhani-Johnson- Steinmeier debate.

If we are dreaming, lets got big

When are we going to get the common sense thing done and just decriminalize MJ. This is fucking ridiculous.

BYU 14 03-19-2021 02:52 PM

Dola - And I say that as a Boomer :)

sovereignstar v2 03-19-2021 02:55 PM

Decriminalization isn't enough.

BYU 14 03-19-2021 03:17 PM

it's much better than we have now and much easier to pass. It gets the records of users and small time dealers expunged so they can have a life, gets the feds out of states business and opens up an even bigger boom for the MJ industry. We can worry about the rest later.

AlexB 03-19-2021 06:46 PM

Biden obviously schooled to try and run up the stairs to AF1 (I’m assuming that’s an acronym!) and trips. Now has to justify he’s OK... Just walk up like anyone normal, don’t try and pretend you’re 20 years younger and concentrate on the important stuff

sterlingice 03-19-2021 06:54 PM

BUT THE MEDIA ISN'T REPORTING ON IT LIKE TRUMP AND THE RAMP.

Never mind that Trump insisted on making it a deal all on his own, bringing it up during his rallies, as a way to show how aggrieved he was. Just like the stupid water drinking thing.

But falling while walking up the stairs is. Imagine if he was wearing a tan suit while doing it? It would be the total downfall of the Republic.

Because this was one incident, I'm okay with his mea culpa. Sounds like he was being a drunk boor.

Republican Rep. Tom Reed of New York apologized and took "full responsibility" on Sunday for the sexual misconduct allegations made against him by a former lobbyist.

Reed also announced that he would not be seeking office in 2022 after his current term in Congress ends.

In a statement, Reed claimed that he had not heard of the allegations made by Nicolette Davis prior to a Washington Post article published last week.
"I hear her voice and will not dismiss her. In reflection, my personal depiction of this event is irrelevant," he said. "Simply put, my behavior caused her pain, showed her disrespect and was unprofessional. I was wrong, I am sorry, and I take full responsibility."

Davis told the Post in a story published Friday that in a Minneapolis pub in 2017, Reed was drunk when he put his hand on her back and then his hand outside her blouse, unhooked her bra and then moved his hand to her thigh, moving it upward.

"A drunk congressman is rubbing my back," she told the Post that she had texted to a friend and co-worker that evening in 2017.

She told the Post she asked the person next to her on the right for help. She said he pulled Reed away from the table and out of the restaurant.
:
:
Reed said in his Sunday statement that the 2017 incident happened during a time when he was struggling with alcoholism.

"This occurred at a time in my life in which I was struggling. Upon entering treatment in 2017, I recognized that I am powerless over alcohol. I am now approaching four years of that personal lifelong journey of recovery," Reed said in a statement. "This is in no way an excuse for anything I've done. Consistent with my recovery, I publicly take ownership of my past actions, offer this amends and humbly apologize again to Ms. Davis, my wife and kids, loved ones, and to all of you."

The richest Americans don't report at least 20 percent of their income to the IRS, new research suggests

Brian Swartz 03-22-2021 03:00 PM

A heck of a lot of people who aren't rich also don't report a lot of their income to the IRS.

So are you saying that means it doesn't matter, or that it's just as bad, or that the media headline is "wrong and over dramatized" because it only focuses on one side? I mean, one of those feels like that is what you're saying.

Brian Swartz 03-22-2021 04:28 PM

I don't know that I'd fully endorse any of those takes, but it's pretty close to 'just as bad'. Basically I'm not a fan of the hypocrisy of demonizing the rich for doing something a lot of not-rich people do.

JPhillips 03-22-2021 04:34 PM

But this story is based on an academic paper specifically looking at tax avoidance strategies of the ultra-wealthy.

They get audited though. The rich don't.

Other way around. Most recent year I can find good info for is 2015, in which:

** Those who made $10 million or more were audited over 8% of the time
** $1 million to $10 million, 2.5%
** Those making under $500k, less than 1%

The rich are audited far more often than the poor are.

That has changed as enforcement funding has been slashed.

That's not good, but it also doesn't support your statement - unless you are claiming people who make six figures but less than $500k are rich, but those who make over $500k aren't.

Some lawyers preparing for oral arguments in courts that don't give the judges/justices nameplates will make a cheatsheet of the judges'/justices' names and where they are sitting.

The key is to offload as many of those things as possible onto paper so that you can focus on answering the questions.

It is even more acute for Biden because he knows that if he slightly flubs a name, the only story out of it will be

DEMENTIA
DEMENTIA
DEMENTIA

Why does he need to know the names?

GrantDawg 03-26-2021 11:18 AM

Because he is personable. It is a business trick. You call people by their names to help make a connection. It is also a basic form of respect.

It is so easy to keep people that want to believe nonsense on the hook. Eventually the goalposts will move to January 2025 and if Biden is defeated or decides not to run for re-election they will say "See, I told you it is only a matter of time" as they celebrate.

It's like we have more 2 year old minds over the age of 30 than we do under the age of 3.
