Lord Baelish, I already know I'm going to be short on ravens today, but if you can send a bird to Winterfell, it would be good to speak.

Chief Rum 06-10-2013 11:34 AM

It's a busy day in Winterfell, with the great Stark host camped outside its doors. Inside King Robb Stark and his council meet to discuss policy and strategy--and the ultimate fate of Ser Axell Florent.

Stark does not lean the way his once Hand Lord Bolton did, so he does not countenance torturing his captives or imprisoning them in the ghastly dungeon of the Dreadfort.

So Florent was given comfortable chambers with a guard while the Kings of the realm determined how he would leave those chambers.

A kitchen boy approached Florent's chambers with a tray of beef and lentil stew, a block of cheese, husk of bread and a short cup of wine. He dropped the tray as he approached the chamber doors--the guard in front appears to be dead, and the chamber door wide open!

As he draws closer, he realizes the guard is not dead at all, but merely sleeping. He smells of... something odd. Has he been drugged? A cup of watered down wine has tipped over on the floor next to the guard's left hand.

The boy cautiously peeks into the chamber, hoping to see Florent still inside, but of course, that is not the case.

The boy runs off to sound the alarm, and soon the fortress keep is alive with alarm and clamor. A quick search reveals Florent is nowhere to be found in Winterfell. Search parties head out in all directions and traveller's of the King's Road are accosted and questioned whether they're coming to or leaving the great Northern Keep.

One of those search parties wanders through the forests to the southeast, and break off in pairs to cover more area.

And so no one was around when one duo of paired guards slipped away quietly, removing the Stark houseman uniforms they had been wearing for the simple garbs of travelling priests.

Ser Axell Florent has been rescued from House Stark captivity by Ser Davos Seaworth!!!

Autumn 06-10-2013 11:42 AM

I suppose I'll save that raven then, Lord Stark. It seems Ser Axell has made his way home.

claphamsa 06-10-2013 11:47 AM

escape succesful!

Autumn 06-10-2013 11:55 AM

Despite the Starks' treachery, we persevere. Now the realm must decide whether to back a man whose words they can trust, whether as friend or enemy, or one who has proven he will put a knife in your back. You can side with Robb as he undoubtedly votes for Ser Axell yet again, and allow his income and soldiers to continue to grow unabated. Or you can vote with me against the Starks and work to bring down this sleeping giant. A vote in Robb's support is a vote to come in second. Side with me and you have as good a chance as any other king.

Autumn 06-10-2013 11:55 AM

now to the matter of Storm's End. Renly, I will be speaking with you shortly.

Chief Rum 06-10-2013 12:19 PM

The Dragonstone banner has been spotted on its way to Highgarden, where King Renly is currently holding court whilst his family keep is in the hands of King Stannis.

You and your silver tongue, Stannis. If you weren't so hell bent on making the throne your own, I'd say people could trust you. Truthfully no one can be trusted. Using that as an argument for why one should choose a side is silly. The Stark family and their intentions have been pure from the start, to put a good king on the throne. Just so happens that Robb is that man.

Autumn 06-10-2013 01:22 PM

No, the difference, Theon, is that I want the throne, just like every king here does. But I've never lied about my intentions. Robb deliberately informed me that we should declare war on Renly, agreed to do back me if I did so, and then swapped sides. I would say switching sides in the middle of a battle is as far from trustworthy as you can get. I will never tell an ally that I intend to help them win the Iron Throne, but when I tell them I will help them, I will.

If one does not care about trust, the other reason to vote Stark is that he is in control of this game. By all accounts he has well over twice the land that any other king controls, and is growing wealthier and stronger every day. A vote for anyone other than a Stark is a vote to lose. Simple as that. Perhaps Stark will save a spot for one other player to come in as his third bannerman. But that's where trust comes in. If he promises it to you, how far do you trust that?

Coffee Warlord 06-10-2013 01:45 PM

And I did help you. Repeatedly. In fact, I went to far greater lengths to keep you relevant than others thought I should. However, when one takes a hard look at the numbers, your faction is simply no longer relevant. It would have done harm to me and my people to continue to prop you up.

I never once made secret that no agreement or alliance in this game could possibly last any longer than it remained useful. I told you that from the beginning - I've told every single person I've dealt with that very same truth. I merely did to you what you no doubt would have done to me...a step sooner.

Autumn 06-10-2013 01:55 PM

No. As I said, I would have said, "I don't know if I'll support you," and leave it at that. I would not tell you that we should declare war, that I will fight with you, and then once you've declared war swap sides. You can try to pretty that up, but it's still the pig in the room.

Autumn 06-10-2013 01:56 PM

Not to mention, if you find me so neglible in power then why would you gang up to weaken me, rather than weaken someone else? Well, it's because you're not worried about anyone so it doesn't really matter to you who gets beat.

path12 06-10-2013 02:07 PM

Didn't get a chance to say this earlier, but farewell to the loyal and super competent Lady Brienne -- you are missed, my lady.

I have received ravens, I will respond but am totally swamped right now.

Autumn 06-10-2013 02:08 PM

Though we were often at cross purposes, I enjoyed negotiating with Brienne. She was engaged and clearly embracing her role.

mauchow 06-10-2013 02:12 PM

Are my fishing days over?

Chief Rum 06-10-2013 02:20 PM

It's a gloomy morning along the Goldroad from King's Landing to Lannisport, just some miles west of King's Landing. The Blackwater Rush lies close enough to hear its great roar as a soft undercurrent on the air.

A contingent of King Joffrey's men are headed toward the capital, taking with them another shipment of gold from Joffrey's holdings in the Westerlands. Their step is lighter than usual, as they know they are within a day's march of the capital and the end to their journey.

So it is that the advance scouts miss the band of warriors hiding among the rocks and brush along the trail.

Attacked! The shaggy-furred raiders rise up with war cries and fall upon the convoy! They race through the Lannister men, striking as they fly by.

Joffrey's men react and fight back. The sounds of swords clashing and men dying fill the air, as both sides of the convoy become a morass of bloody mayhem.

This would be a lightning strike, though. Just as quick as they had arrived, the raiders were soon off again and running away, the cheers of the Lannister men echoing in the hills behind them.

King Joffrey's men have beaten off a Sneak Attack from Tyrion Lannister's Mountain Men!

Narcizo 06-10-2013 02:24 PM

One can always rely on my brother to make a fool of himself and bring a chuckle to everyone's lips.

Autumn 06-10-2013 02:38 PM

More like Molehill Men it seems.

Danny 06-10-2013 02:47 PM

The sneak attack was not a great success, but It was good to get the necessary info I need for my night time raid

Chief Rum 06-10-2013 02:58 PM

A knock comes at the door to Robb Stark's official chambers.

The Young Wolf looks up in surprise. He had told the guards to allow him and his Hand Tywin Lannister some peace as they discussed war plans.

"My King, I do not think your guards would choose to disobey your orders for anything but the most urgent of matters," Lord Tywin said, echoing the thought in Robb's own mind.

"Enter!" Robb called out. The door opened a crack, and his two guardsmen came sheepishly in, a hooded figure entering behind them.

"We beg your forgiveness, my Grace," one guard said. "You have a visitor."

Before Robb could demand why a simple visitor would call for this interruption, the visitor took a step forward and threw back his hood. Robb found himself staring into the weathered, ice-blue eyes of Ser Barristan Selmy, the most reknowned knight of Westeros.

Ser Barristan held the young King's stare for the barest of an instant before dropping his eyes and inclining in a short, clipped bow, in the military form of deference.

"Forgive my intrusion, your Grace," the old knight said. "I pray only for but a moment of your time."

Robb gave a nod to the guards, and they fell back to flanking the door.

"Of course, Ser Selmy," he said. "You are always welcome at Winterfell. You do honor to my court by visiting us here. I feared what might have come of you after the indignity you suffered at the hands of Joffrey. It pleases me to see that you are well."

"Thank you, your Grace, that is most kind," Barristan said. He was standing at attention once more, and his gaze did not waver from the Young Wolf's face.

"While I fought against your father and King Robert at the Trident, I always held the highest respect for him, a respect he earned through years of honorable service to the realm. I was saddened and distraught at the King's decision on Lord Eddard's fate."

The King acknowledged this with a nod.

"What would bring you to my court in the North, through warring armies and bandits and thieves, honorable ser?" the King asked. "You have certainly earned the right to peace and quiet after so many decades of service."

"Peace and quiet is not my way, and never has been," the old warrior said. "I wouldn't know the first thing about it, and I have recently learned I am a terrible fisherman besides. I am a protector of Kings."

With that, Ser Barristan knelt to the ground before the King, but out of sword's reach, the graceful move displaying that he had yet to lose much to the passing of the years. He lowered his head and slowly eased his sword out and balanced it on his palms. He looked up at Robb Stark.

"Your Grace, I desire nothing more than to see a true and honorable King on the Iron Throne," he said. "I served four Kings on the Iron Throne, and not one of them was truly fit for that seat. And I have viewed all of these new Kings running about from afar. Most have been lacking, very much so. But you have proven to me to be your father's son. And it is to you I wish to pledge my sword."

"I swear upon the Seven to be your swordsman, and to protect you to the end of my days. I pledge my life and fealty to you and yours," he said. "If you would accept the service of a humble old knight as I."

Robb is astonished by this. He casts a glance aside to Lord Tywin, who has said nothing. The statuesque figure of the Hand is still and stern, but that has never not been the case since he had come to Winterfell. He returned his liege's look with a cold stare that betrayed nothing.

Robb turned back Ser Barristan, and stepped forward to directly in front of him. The guards and Tywin tensed.

The King settled his hand on Selmy's shoulder.

"Rise, ser knight," he said. "I accept your offer of service and I am honored to have you by my side. Please, rise."

The knight gave a nod, and sheathed his sword as he rose, his eyes still in slight deference to his new liege lord.

"I am the one who is honored, my Grace," he said. "How may I be of service?"

"You will serve me as you have done Kings in the past, in the role no other has held more honorably or memorably than youself," King Robb said. "I am appointing you my Lord Commander of the Kingsguard."

Ser Barristan Selmy bows his head once more at the great honor.

"My thanks, my Grace," he said. "I shall strive always to protect your life and do you honor with mine."

Without another word, the old knight leaves the chambers, seeking a tailor to outfit him with a White Cloak.

Ser Barristan Selmy is now a non-bannerman member of House Stark and a member of King Robb Starks' Kingsguard!

Autumn 06-10-2013 03:07 PM

There goes that third spot. It seems there is little value in anyone else supporting Robb.

Autumn 06-10-2013 03:08 PM

White is the color of the day, but I would have to wait another day myself.

Coffee Warlord 06-10-2013 03:08 PM

Non-bannerman. He is a member of the Kingsguard, not a bannerman.

Not entirely no. In much the same way that you are not a great man - someone who would throw himself at the winning side and ask for coin to pay your wench and dreary mountain men.

Narcizo 06-10-2013 03:22 PM

Unfortunately, Selmy's decision might be a black day for the rest of the houses.

mauchow 06-10-2013 03:22 PM

Yes I was truly a poor fisherman.

I would be interested in being party to that conversation. It seems there is little that motivates a man's baser side than the promise of, or loss of, land. Particularly land as wealthy as Storm's End.

claphamsa 06-10-2013 03:41 PM

I dont get what just happend. but thats pretty normal for this game :)

path12 06-10-2013 04:39 PM

Misclick on Stark thread. Saw nothing.

Coffee Warlord 06-10-2013 05:06 PM

Oh, and as should be fairly obvious.

Vote Axell Florent
Tywin Votes Axell Florent
Theon Votes Axell Florent

I don't know what the rules are for Ser Barristan, so I'll sit there.

Danny 06-10-2013 05:13 PM

vote Axel Florent

Autumn 06-10-2013 05:33 PM

Even if you want to cozy up to the Starks, Lord Tyrion, it would make sense to wait until there was one less of them, if you care to win.

Danny 06-10-2013 05:37 PM

And you know exactly how I go about winning?

Well, I do and I assure you my actions are consistent with what I need to do.

Autumn 06-10-2013 05:39 PM

Very well. When I asked you last about your means of victory you did not care to share, so you cannot blame me for my ignorance.

Coffee Warlord 06-10-2013 05:39 PM

(FYI - Per Chief, he's not a bannerman. I have 2 bannermen and a Kingsguard, not 3 bannermen.)

Autumn 06-10-2013 05:39 PM

(Oh, interesting, thanks for sharing that CW).

Danny 06-10-2013 05:47 PM

Id rather people not know exactly. So Stannis, right now it seems clear House Stark is the most powerful in the realm right now, who do you think is the second most powerful?

hoopsguy 06-10-2013 05:59 PM

What Stannis is ignoring when talking about the House Stark "three bannermen" conversation is that there is still a fair amount of sorting to be done in this game of thrones. I expect multiple battles between now and the completion of this uprising, with bannermen being left for dead along the way.

The bold will find themselves embroiled in these battles. They will earn the right to dictate the fate of Westeros.
The cautious will seek to align with the eventual winner late. They may or may not have the opportunity to pick their ruler if they hold off too long.

I'm not speaking for Robb Stark in this case, just pointing out what I think has been an imperfect argument posed by Stannis as he seeks vengeance upon House Stark. I do not begrudge Stannis his anger and frustration, but I will not sit idly by while he engages in fear-mongering as a ploy to unite those who previously opposed him in battle.

Chief Rum 06-10-2013 06:03 PM

"Where is the Hand?" King Robb Stark asked his guard. "He was to attend to me a half hour ago."

"I will go find him, my Grace," the guard said, and left with all haste for the tower in which Tywin Lannister had taken up residence.

One of Tywin's own men stood guard at the base of the tower. He asked the guard if Lord Lannister had left the tower, and was told he had not.

They both knew that punctuality wasn't just a desired quality, it was a requirement for Tywin Lannister. Were it anyone else but the King asking after the Lord, the guard would have been inclined to inquire if perhaps the one Tywin was meeting with in error about the meeting.

Given no choice to go back and confirm, though, he must instead risk disturbing Lord Tywin.

Followed by Tywin's guard, they both proceeded into the tower and up the stairwell to the great lord's chambers.

The guard knocked at the door, almost timidly. He thought he could hear a gust of wind through the door, as perhaps the Lord had thrown a window open in the room to let in air. Had he knocked loud enough to be heard?

He knocked louder, and queried, "My Lord?"

He paused. There was little wind now on the other side. Yet he heard nothing. No one but a deaf man would have missed his knock, and Lord Tywin by all accounts has excellent hearing.

He turned back to Tywin's guard and asked him to follow him in. He turned the handle slowly, and the hitch came undone with little resistance. Not locked. He pushed the door open...and found the chamber in utter disarray, a desk and chairs knocked over, papers strewn on the ground, ink and candle holders tipped over and leaking their contents about the room.

Near the window on the far side of the room, a brown-robed figure laid unmoving on the floor, a wicked and ornate dagger in his back. The guard ran forward to the man, to see if he lived, fearing it might be Tywin Lannister, although he rather thought not.

Instead, it was clearly an intruder. And just as clear is that he is with the Seven now.

Tywin's guard gasped. The guard turned and saw what had shocked the man--Lord Tywin, the Lannister himself, lying against a wall alcove. His doublet was red with blood and a nasty gash across his chest. His eyes were sightless, and as cold in death as they were in life.

The Lannister went out fighting. It seems clear he killed his assassin with the assassin's own knife, even after the assassin had dealt him a mortal blow.

Lord Tywin Lannister has been assassinated!!

hoopsguy 06-10-2013 06:11 PM

Well that is a bummer.

Coffee Warlord 06-10-2013 06:14 PM

Be a Hand for House Stark! I'm SURE you will live!

Coffee Warlord 06-10-2013 06:22 PM

Autumn 06-10-2013 07:31 PM

Wow. Quite an eventful day in the North. I can certainly say I was not involved in this one. No way I would want Tywin's lands going to Robb.

(Jeez, my people are geting killed, everyone's clicking in my thread. SHENANIGANS)

Chief Rum 06-10-2013 08:06 PM

FYI... I am going to go get a work out in before the deadline, and it will probably run later as a result. But I do intend to run it all tonight.

I am off tonight and tomorrow night from my night job, so it seems to be a good opportunity to advance the game.
