Thanks Joe. Right call

thesloppy 07-21-2024 01:56 PM

It does instantly shift the burden and question of age and incapability entirely back to the GOP. Lots of positive angles (or wishful thinking) to this that I didn't even consider.

Even though I dislike Harris, as mentioned in this thread before, a female candidate would allow a shift of focus to abortion, where dems dominate in public opinion. Two 80-year old white dudes yelling about post-birth abortions doesn't really move the needle.

GrantDawg 07-21-2024 02:02 PM

I woman did beat Trump by 2% points, almost 3 million votes, in 2016.

That's true, but voting access has gotten...oh, right.

Ksyrup 07-21-2024 02:14 PM

Driving my parents back to NC when the news broke. Had to hear about what a POS Biden is and that everyone knows Obama is the puppetmaster running the show.

Danny 07-21-2024 02:16 PM

Im glad Biden made this decision. Even if Kamala is a mid candidate, I feel excited and rejuvenated knowing theres at least a chance. I cant imagine i am alone.

Looks like you’re the one when they say that 3 out of 4 Americans disapprove with the Democrats running the country right now.

Vegas Vic 07-21-2024 02:20 PM

Trump now at -159 and Harris at +275 on the betting markets.

Trump isn't popular, Biden isn't popular, house approval rating is embarrassingly low, senate approval is terrible, SCOTUS approval is historically low.

It has nothing to do with dems. People are fed up with our politicians.

RainMaker 07-21-2024 02:26 PM

You can tell it was the right decision based on how mad the MAGA people are.

Trump is going to defend Biden and attack the dem party. It's predictable.

Ksyrup 07-21-2024 02:34 PM

He's already called him unfit for office from the beginning, so I don't think he'll be defending the ancient guy who's only 3 years older than him.

Kodos 07-21-2024 02:35 PM

Thanks, Joe. We needed this!

They are of course appealing to conspiracy as best they can, saying everybody in the party and Harris were 'in on it' and hiding Biden's condition from the public.

Part of how he attacked Hillary was defending Bernie and saying the dems screwed him. I'm expecting something similar here.

GrantDawg 07-21-2024 02:43 PM

That is showing Pete as the VP favorite but not by much over Whitmer.

I think it's going to be a white male. Pete, Shapiro, etc.

Danny 07-21-2024 02:48 PM

Its wrong but I think she needs a white male as her VP

I think so as well, and I think Pete makes some sense, but then I think it might be smarter to pick a Governor or someone who has at least won a statewide election.

RainMaker 07-21-2024 02:52 PM

Pete is such a fucking loser. Why do people like him?

I don't think any of the big names are going to want to be her VP since its still likely she will lose. I think Beshear has to be the top choice.

Ksyrup 07-21-2024 02:53 PM

As a practical matter, how much does Harris having access to the campaign funds work in her favor? Like, is that a deal maker for her to be the candidate?

Atocep 07-21-2024 02:55 PM

Usually VP picks don't matter, but we're in uncharted territory here so you never know. I like Pete, but I don't think he'd be a strong choice. He's easy to attack. His strength is in debates and you're pretty limited on time here and VP debates are largely a waste of time.

I think the campaign infrastructure already being in place is bigger than the money. It's easy to make that swap when they're on the same ticket.

It never really mattered. Biden could always have transferred it to the DNC. It was just used by Biden diehard as a lie to keep pressure off him to step down.

JPhillips 07-21-2024 03:01 PM

Now make everything about Trump. If the election is Trump or not Trump, Dems will win.

Danny 07-21-2024 03:02 PM

Yep, the focus can now be off bidens age and mental capacity. Keep focus on trump and they key issues and drill on it day after day.

CrimsonFox 07-21-2024 03:05 PM

can we have Bernie now?

thesloppy 07-21-2024 03:09 PM

An all female and/or all black ticket would be interesting, just lean into the Trump/MAGA hate.

Dutch 07-21-2024 03:20 PM

The Republican convention proved the Republicans are all in for everyone. Unity is the key. White, Black, Hispanic, Asian, men and women are all in this together. No lawfare, no desperate assassinations, just love for America and all Americans. I look forward to the next leader of the Democrats to join in with that message so we can all make America great again.

CrimsonFox 07-21-2024 03:29 PM

And what is there plan now? What? You say they don't have a plan? Oh yeaaaaah right they never have a plan.

I'm really not sure how you type this with a straight face.

CrimsonFox 07-21-2024 03:32 PM

Did anyone bother asking if Harris wanted the job?

Also, you are hilarious.

"Biden has to drop out. Everyone hates Biden!"

/Joe drops out

"Nobody likes Harris! Nobody likes Pete! All the Democrats suck! (Except for maybe the guy from Kentucky, nobody really cares about that guy.)"

I thought you were just trolling this thread, but this pretty much confirms it. The party of white males and hate has now become the unity party overnight. Ok bro.

What is it you like about Mayor Pete? I didn't follow his run as the mayor of tiny South Bend, but have seen his disastrous run as Transportation Secretary.

Kamala is better than Biden. I don't think she's a good candidate but actually gives Dems a chance. Do we have to pretend Kamala is good and people love her and just ignore 2020?

Nick Castellanos hit a home run today, which makes perfect sense.

We should sort of pretend that until the election is over yes. She needs full support until after the election (then whatever)

People ignored Joe's 1988 and 2008 failed Presidential campaigns in 2020. It is almost as if time and experience changes things.

GrantDawg 07-21-2024 04:01 PM

Pete not named...

JPhillips 07-21-2024 04:07 PM

Don't give up the AZ senate seat, but otherwise that's a good list.

GrantDawg 07-21-2024 04:08 PM

The biggest winner? Maya Rudolf.

JPhillips 07-21-2024 04:11 PM

So if Biden is too old and Trump will be older than Biden is in four years, doesn't that make Trump too old?

Atocep 07-21-2024 04:12 PM

Governors are generally popular and much less costly than replacing a senate seat. Especially one that isn't up for reelection until 2028.

No because he has an R next to his name and he's all about unity and being bipartisan now compared to that partisan hack Biden.

Well as long as you're not from south of our border, a muslim coutry, China, a woman, a cheating democrat, gay, trans, black, jewish, a veteran, or a federal employee.

I was talking to my wife yesterday that if Trump wins our Chinese daughter will need to start carrying her passport everywhere she goes so she can prove her citizenship if required.

It's really amazing how the GOP is normalizing asking people for their papers...
