I've nothing but respect for you Stannis, and we did great things together ... but one does not coddle a crippled horse in the hopes it becomes strong again - one must put it down.
|
Ah Joffrey.

You and your team also appear not long for this world and I have oh so many things still to do before meeting my end. |
It seems you all put more stock into the numbers on a battlefield than you should. You stand side by side with the loser of the last battle, you see. Best wait to see who falls in this battle before you start crowing.
|
Now these are odds I like.
|
Also for any pleased they're holding hands with Robb Stark, keep in mind that I declared this war at his urging and with his promise to fight at my side. So consider how much to weigh his words by that. We all knew our alliance would break at some point, but I respect a man who is willing to stand up and admit that he is doing so. Robb Stark is not that man.

It is, I believe, still before the battle.

Funny. It does not hide the fact that you have chosen to be a weasel rather than a king. |

THE BATTLE OF MAIDENPOOL!
Lannisters and Dragonstone, Storm and Wolf and Drowned Man, the two great hosts ready their lines. Tension fills the air on a blustery cold morning. The clatter of metal and chain rings through the crisp sea air. The Ironborn seem rowdy, ready for the first taste of blood in the War of the Five Kings, Balon Greyjoy silent and stern among them. They start to roar. Robb Stark and Tywin Lannister are calm in composure as they view the gathering host before them with critical eyes. Renly wears a tight look on his face, no doubt recalling his defeat so recently at the Battle of Cape Wrath. Lord Karstark and Theon Greyjoy stand among the frontlines of the Starks, while Brienne of Tarth toes the line of the Storm's End host. There seems to be little feeling, and certainly no fear in the hard eyes of Stannis Baratheon. He knows the numbers well. But he also knows his destiny. Florent stands at the front of the Dragonstone numbers, ready to lead. Joffrey is cold, despite being swaddled and immense and gaudy furs and plate mail. He is still young yet, and he did not handle his defeat at hands of his new ally so many weeks before. He has a sense of disquiet as he looks at the string of banners before him. He does not have the experience to share Stannis's apparent confidence. On the seas, Ser Davos Seaworth ably moves his ships about on the seas, and Asha Greyjoy counters, two seasoned sea warriors. Asha feints to one side, as if she will bring the hammer of her greater fleet directly around the Dragonstone ships and in on the harbor. But Davos is too well familiar with this feint. He has dealt with Ironborn before, both as a smuggler and at the head of Stannis's fleet. He allows the Greyjoys to believe he has taken to the feint, moving his forward line toward the strike. But he counters as well, by moving backend lines to fortify the other side, where he knows soon Asha will backtrack and hit with all her force. The attack comes! Asha believes the feint has worked and she flies to the lead of the new attack to Davos's flank! She leads her ships far in before she sees her error. Suddenly a mass of Dragonstone galleys lie before her and close in on all sides. She is beleaguered and trapped! But Ironborn don't go so easily on the high seas. The reserve fleet, nearly the size of the whole Dragonstone fleet by itself, surges forward to rescue their commander. Greyjoy, Stark and Storm ships knife into and through the amassed Dragonstone and Lannister warships. Arrow and fire shot fly, as men jump from ship to ship. The Dragonstone fleet must fall back! It was a near thing, but the Greyjoy-led fleet has forced its way to the remaining Storm's End ships deep in Maidenpool's harbor and Stannis's fleet has run to the west to re-gather. With a roar, Brienne waves forward her host, and Karstark matches his with hers stride for stride. The charging force strikes Dragonstone head on, and the thunder of thousands of men crashing upon each other at once can be heard all the way to Duskendale. The fighting is fiercest between Stark and Lannister, foes for so long and with such enmity. Still, the Northmen wish to slake their thirst for Joffrey's blood, hungry for revenge for the beheading of Eddark Stark, Robb's father. Karstark falls! A thrown spear has caught him on the side! At his age, he longer had the ability to avoid it. He has been gutted! The Karstark men among his host gather about him and carry him back behind the lines to the Stark war command. Florent leads his Dragonstone men into the hole, and the Lannisters pour in behind them, seeking to arrow through and separate the greater host. At its head, Florent fights with unnatural fervor, leading his men deep into the enemy ranks. Alas, there are too many Starks and Storm. He is cut off! Soon, Florent is surrounded. Theon Greyjoy steps forward and demands his surrender. Seeing his own role in today's battle is over, Florent turns over his sword. He has been taken captive! Brienne fights onward, struggling forward tor each the Stannis command. If she can but reach the King of Dragonstone, this war could end, and her King Renly could very well become the kind liege of all Westeros she knows in her heart he can be. Her sword flies and sweeps in glittering arcs, as men fall before her and shields shatter under her rain of blows. The Stormland host lacks the numbers to push so far, though, and soon Brienne has outpaced her protection! She is surrounded! She turns about the ring, sword extended and screaming defiance. Two men come forth and she undercuts one, taking off his leg at the knee, before rising up to skewer the other in mid-swing. And so it was she was unprepared when King Stannis himself stepped forward. Carrying a mighty sword strangely aflame, the King swings with all power down upon Brienne. His sword cuts through her armor as if it's not there. His powerful swing has nearly cut Brienne in half! She is dead before she hits the ground. The horns of Lannister call for retreat and soon both Lannister and Dragonstone men are falling away. King Stannis thinks the boy king has called for retreat out of cawardice, buteven so, he can see that the day is lost. He jumps atop his horse and joins the Dragonstone host in retreat. Back in the Stark camp, Lord Karstark whispers thanks and gratitude to Robb Stark for giving him the chance to revenge his sons. And then he dies quietly amongst quiet, somber men. Maidenpool has been saved. But the cost is very, very high. HOUSE BARATHEON OF STORM'S END and their allies have won the BATTLE OF MAIDENPOOL!!! |
Lord Rickard Karstark (MrBug708) and Brienne of Tarth (fontisian) have been killed in battle.
Ser Axell Florent (claphamsa) is being held captive by House Stark. Maidenpool remains in House Baratheon of Storm's End's hands, but Storm's End itself is still occupied by the forces of House Baratheon of Dragonstone. The day's results will follow over the next 24 hours. |
What do we say to death?
Today, apparently |
As I said, wait to rejoice, Stark. That is a lesson men learn.
|
An admirable battle, but death calls even the victors. I hope that the realm sees Robb Stark for what he is, Renly sees that I still hold his Storm's End, and that all see what the Greyjoys are capable of. And that all see that King Stannis, and yes even Joffrey Lannister, are men of their words and men of honor.
|
You have a worthy fleet commander, Stannis. There are few non-Ironborn who deserve my respect in this regard, but the Onion Knight is one.
|
I will parlay with you, Robb Stark, about Ser Axell.
|
Quote:
Thank you, Balon. He is a man worthy of the realm's respect. |
(Had to get an unlucky roll sometime.)
|
King Robb names Tywin Lannister as Hand of the King.
House Stark has also implemented a new combat doctrine - Hands will no longer lead the vanguard. Rest in peace, Lord Karstark. |
Quote:
And as usual, I will be willing to listen. We've seen enough death for one day. (Heading out tonight, but will be around on and off over the weekend.) |
[ooc] I'm flying to a wedding at like 6am tomorrow and back at 7am on Sunday.. so don't expect to hear much from me until Sunday afternoon. :) [/ooc]

I approve of this combat doctrine. I'm happy to command from the rear, leaving the swordplay for those who thirst for blood. |
A king must make decisions for the good of the realm, not the good of his friends.
|
Karstark and the Tarth wench dead, two people very responsible for the death of Jamie. A day for celebration then. Shame that Joffrey has an uncanny knack for choosing the wrong side.
(Ooc fantastic write up Chief) |

It seems Ser Axell is not enjoying his time in the Stark camp.

It seems the favors I do for you grow and grow. |
(Can he actually do that?)
|
I don't remember Ser Axell being such a BAMF.
|
Cersei, could you send Qyburn this way? I've got a matter that I would like him to look into this afternoon.

I believe the Warrior did me the favours today my lord. I hear your witch believed you to be some sort of mythical hero but I hope you don't believe yourself a diety. |
It wasn't the Warrior who chopped Brienne in half. It was me. I see where it could get confusing, sitting so far from battle and waiting for ravens. But it was my war which brought you vengeance.

I would suggest you consider diplomacy my lord. Bannermen are becoming a scarce resource and will be getting rarer. |
For my part I feel like I should take a leaf out of the book of Lord Varys and start considering the good of the realm. Well, for the majority of the realm anyway.

Of course, when Cersei talks about the realm, she means the one between her legs. |
Was a busy night for me and the mountain men. I think I shall take a nap now
|
It seems Tyrion Lannister and his Mountain Men have been busy...
They have successfully raided Dragonstone! |
All results are officially out.
The deadline for Day Nine is 10 p.m. EST/7 p.m. PDT MONDAY. |
BTW... in case anyone doesn't look at the player page in the first page of this thread...
Asha Greyjoy is King Balon Greyjoy's Hand of the King (and has been for several days), and Tywin Lannister is King Robb Stark's new Hand of the King, replacing the late Lord Rickard Karstark. |
attempts to escape again
|
(ooc sounded better when you just escaped. "Attempts" sounds wussier).
|
Kindly send a raven with your offer for the safe release of Axell, dear Stannis. I'd just as soon conclude that piece of business early.
|
Most interesting indeed...
|
I will, Robb, just waiting on some more info from above.

(Don't tell me you've converted to Christianity now!)
