Entire posts were deleted because it was easier than going through one by one and deleting the pics of tits hanging out, but you already know that. Why should they have to work harder to take them out than someone else did to put them in?

This. Someone is pissed that he got busted at work for not working.

Suicane75 09-26-2012 06:59 PM

Or maybe someone pm'd a mod and asked for the pic thread to be divided into two threads so he wouldn't have to sift thru asscracks and nipples when trying to see some cool pics. And maybe a mod said "man, how bad are the pics in there?" And then maybe when he saw them, he deleted them.

It's not always pitchforks and cannonballs.

1. Most of the mods rarely visit this thread. One of the times we do is when a post is reported. We may take action on that post. If we are randomly viewing the thread, and we see something that catches our eyes, we may take action.

2. The Board has long had a general standard of not behaving like an asshat. Pretty easy judgment to make of when an asshat alarm goes off.

3. If this leads to inconsistent modding, oh well. Sometimes you get a speeding ticket for going 8 mph over the limit and sometimes you don't for going 95 in a 55. We're mostly adults here (maybe all), and if you can't behave yourself on your own, you're probably not going to get much sympathy from any of the mods.

4 Finally, we're talking about pictures grabbed from other sites on the internet. Hard for me (speaking personally and not for other mods) to grasp the emotional attachment some seem to have in defending their "right" to post those.

5. What Suicane said.

Survey says!

Attachment 4260

Here's how it should have went (you know, the adult thing that keeps getting mentioned):

Mod to Offending Poster via PM - "Hey, got to delete pic X. Had some complaints"
Offending Poster to Mod via PM - "WTF? Which one?"
M - "The cheerleader one"
OP - "What are you talking about? There's nothing wrong with it."
M - "I know, but, there's been some complaints and it would just be best to remove it and keep the peace. You can do it or I can go in there and delete if you want."
OP - "Not cool, but, thanks for the explanation."
M - "If you want, just start another HoN thread about cheerleaders, there's been no complaints about the pics in the HoN threads."
OP - "No problem, I'll do that."

I'm not a mod, so maybe doing something like the example I gave threatens their imaginary power they wield. Again, I don't care if pics get deleted. Just have the spine to explain yourself when called out. You'd be surprised at how quickly things die down with something as simple as an explanation.

Suicane75 09-26-2012 07:04 PM

Or maybe it went like this,

Poster: I'm a magical fairy and I'm going to sprinkle pixie dust on this thread and magically delete all the naughty pictures.

Mod: What?

I mean, since we're just making up scenarios now and all.

RedKingGold 09-26-2012 07:06 PM

My take: Jesus came, he saw, he got offended.

I don't really give a shit about what was deleted or not, I know ya'll are making the right calls here. But not everybody is going to agree with you all the time. Especially if they don't even know what your intentions were. Were you just being an asshat? Where you just being a douchebag? From the above post, obviously not.

My advice to the mods is that if people ask why, you need to just tell them. Or else you end up with Pitchforks and cannonballs and perceptions of elitism when there obviously isn't any of that. You want to be a mod of a large community, don't just do your job, do it, but enjoy doing it. A little communication with "your community" goes a long way. Just my .02.

Why do you feel like the little shrimp on the playground hiding behind the bully who doesn't even like you talking shit about your "friend" beating everyone up if they aren't nice to you.

Everyone in the playground wants to tell you off, and that you are really a dork and not liked by the bully. Over half aren't even scared of the bully. But in the end, it just isnt worth the effort so they roll their eyes and carry on.

I just can't believe that grown men get boxed on a message board. It's like getting tossed out of an adult coed softball game. I can't imagine how it feels to be put in the penalty box. (And no I am not daring anyone to try and get me :) )

Ben E Lou 09-26-2012 09:09 PM

Long layover in the A-T-L, so I had some time to read through some of the stuff posted here. A few comments...
  • Modding of any board this size by volunteers will always be inconsistent. As has been said, part of the reason for that is that some posts simply are never seen by *any* moderator. We have jobs and wives and kids.
  • That said, one thing that I don't think has changed since I set up the ability to post pics here nearly a decade ago is the standard that I generally use: if someone is sitting at work and someone else walked by and saw the pic, would it be "questionable?" But again, if I don't see it, that standard may not be applied. Every mod has his own standard, not all posts are seen, and even if they do see them, I'm not asking them to mod by thinking "What would Ben do?" (Oh, and no, I don't know of anyone getting in trouble recently for pics. I did most of the deleting, and I work from home.)
  • No, I'm not bothering to go into an explanation every time I delete a post that falls under something I've said repeatedly in the past. (See bullet point two.)
  • There's zero chance that I'm going into a multi-PM back and forth with anyone over a silly deleted pic when it falls under an oft-repeated long-time policy. (Again, see bullet point #2.)
  • If there's a questionable pic in a long post of pics, I'm just deleting the post. It's much easier.
  • I'll dig up the "general guidelines" sticky from a few years ago and re-sticky it.
Oh, and Render is getting a little vacation for the pubic pic.

ADDENDUM TO SECOND BULLET POINT: Yup, that standard has been in place dating back to at least 2003, and probably longer than that.

Chubby 09-26-2012 09:15 PM

So bare nude male ass = acceptable at work. Got it.

Honestly, I figure it depends.

If you feel like you totally got hosed unfairly, then you're pissed.

If you feel like you can understand how/why even if you don't agree, then you're sort of mixed with jumbled emotions.

If you feel like it doesn't matter and/or was totally worth it, then you're a specific mix of mildly annoyed and something between amused/satisfied.

I'm no master interpreter, but I think you've missed it. What I read was .... "some posts aren't seen by any moderator".

Which, should signal... a nude male ass (or insert any picture) may or may not be acceptable. It not being deleted is not an indication of anything at all.

Sounds good.

I was just trying to point out to Chubby that a picture not being deleted in this thread isn't necessarily an indication of it being "acceptable".

I think what people are upset about isn't that something was deleted, it's that this thread and the pictures posted in it have been acceptable for literally years, and now all of a sudden they aren't and start getting deleted without warning. I think we all get that not every post can be seen, but you can't tell me that every mod doesn't know there have been pictures in here for years that are NSFW, it's why I don't open this thread at work.

FWIW I am glad the pics are gone, I hate what this thread has turned into. It used to be a must see for me every day and turned into something a 12 year old has wet dreams over. It wasn't worth sifting through anymore.

jeff061 09-26-2012 10:25 PM

Hmm, only thing i care about is being so lazy you can't delete the specific pic in a post full of pics.

Everything else, could care less. We'll never have a standard of what exactly constitutes too much skin on a half naked chick, I'm fine with that. But christ, does it happen so often you can't take the extra 20 seconds to delete the offending pic and not them all?
