If Lidge gets the save, it will be nice to see him exorcise the demons from Houston and get a ring. Still, I'd rather this series go 7.

(Obviously, I know the Phils fans don't want this but I don't want baseball to be over yet)

Bucc, I'll just be happy when the election is over so we can go back to liking all the same stuff and agreeing on everything ;)

FINALLY!!!!

Bad-example 10-29-2008 09:06 PM

So glad the team that eliminated the Werth-less Dodgers won the series. Congrats to the Phillies and their fans.

Eaglesfan27 10-29-2008 09:09 PM

Surprised how happy I am about this win. Reminds me of my grandfather's joy when they won in 80.

The first thing I thought of was my grandfather. He loved the Phillies...died 3 yrs ago. I am so happy I got to take my dad to the game and share this experience with him.

lighthousekeeper 10-29-2008 09:13 PM

woot!

i hear random fireworks going off out here in the philly burbs.

stevew 10-29-2008 09:17 PM

I can't believe how hard this hit me. All I can remember is futility. But now it doesn't mAtter anymore.

Comey 10-29-2008 09:36 PM

I have no idea when this will sink in. Probably at the parade.

It's all surreal. Just surreal.

sterlingice 10-29-2008 09:38 PM

Seriously, congrats to all the Phillies fans. It's a wonderful feeling to have your team win it all and I wish everyone gets a chance a couple of times in their lifetime.

Nothing against your team at all- it was just one of the more compelling series we had seen in a while and I really wanted it to go 7 and have a bit of a thing for the underdog but I would have been ok if you had dramatically won game 7 :D

tucker rocky 10-29-2008 09:42 PM

Long distance Phillie fan here.

After last seasons post-season collapse, they exorcised those nightmares, with this World Series title in 2008.

It'll be an interesting offseason for the Phillies, who stays/goes/new additions.

Yes, yes, yes, I'm proud of ya'll Phillies.

EagleFan 10-29-2008 09:44 PM

Finally!!!!! This is great!!! Time to prepare for the parade on Friday.

EagleFan 10-29-2008 09:45 PM

dola: Oh, and I love that Selig got booed every time he was announced after the game. :D

tucker rocky 10-29-2008 09:46 PM

I would also like to say congrats to the TampaBay Rays, a 200-1 longshot to even make it this far.

Rays have alot going for them, a young growing team.
Just get a new ballpark, Tropicana Field does the team no justice.

I was really hoping for a Saturday parade so I could drive out for it.

One of the first things I thought of was a man from work - a longtime Phillies fan who was diagnosed with inoperable cancer just a couple of months ago. He turned 60 in mid September...and died two days before the playoffs started.

Enjoy it Don, wherever you are.

Mike1409 10-29-2008 10:55 PM

Congrats to the Phillies. We will be better next season but so will everyone in our division!

David Price is going to be awesome!

Oh and I had tickets via the lottery for tomorrows game:(

RedKingGold 10-29-2008 10:56 PM

Just in shock. I called my Dad, and nearly started crying.

I know that life trumps anything in sports, but if there was any one moment where both came together, it was tonight.

I'm getting choked up just typing this post.

I'm heading into the city tomorrow for an observation at the federal courthouse on Market & 6th. I might just walk 14 blocks and park my butt there until the next morning.

Now, I'm off to splurge on some merchandise.

Philadelphia Phillies: 2008 World Champions.

I wonder how long that will remain a contradiction in my mind before I wake up and realize it's real. :D

GO PHILS!

Hello new desktop wallpaper.

stevew 10-29-2008 11:27 PM

Do they sell those caps with the ear warmer thing? Maddon had on a TB one, I saw Rollins was wearing one of the Phillies ones. But I don't see them on shop.mlb.com. It would be nice for the upcoming winter half of the year.

stevew 10-29-2008 11:38 PM

dola

At World Series, Flaps Keep Ears Warm and Fuzzy - NYTimes.com

Looks like the "fudds" should be available soon. May have to ask for one for xmas.

miami_fan 10-30-2008 05:54 AM

Who would have thunk it?

Charlie Manual is a World Series winning manager.

RedKingGold 10-30-2008 07:19 AM

Big congrats to the Rays. If the Phils or Cubs did not make it to the Series, the Rays would've been my next choice to root for to pull it out.

That AL East is going to be wicked next season. I kinda feel bad for Baltimore.

Scarecrow 10-30-2008 03:23 PM

Royals trade Leo Nunez for Mike Jacobs.

Not really sure if I like this trade - injury prone MR for Steve Balboni v2.0.

ISiddiqui 10-30-2008 03:56 PM

Congrats to the Phils.

WTF is up with Jimme Rollins calling out the Mets and Johan Santana. Are you that much of a miserable fuck that you have to do that? What a classless piece of shit.

LOL!!!

For one, follow along. He was talking about the fans' reaction to the Mets getting Santana. Mets fans pretty much had their World Series tickets purchased when that happened. This season proved that you can't win as a group of individuals (ie: Mets).

Jimmy FTW!!!

EagleFan 11-01-2008 11:00 AM

dola: Forgot to add, he never called out Santana. Again, follow along with what he said. Stop seeing him in your ugly Mets colored glasses.

Lathum 11-01-2008 11:06 AM

It doesnt matter what context it was in, it's a classless move. You just won the world series, talk about your team and whatever. To bring up other teams and players is a piece of shit move in that spot. Me being a Mets fan has nothing to do with how i feel about it.

i view it differently. these players are put on stage in front of 50,000 fans and given a microphone, expected to say something. since they're not professional orators, they probably don't know exactly what to say, but want to give the fans something to chear about. so that's what leads to rollins' comments and 'world fucking champions'

Hey, when you win the whole thing, you can say whatever the heck you want.

Don't like it? "Come back when the Mets actually win something."

:p

And all this time we thought Saldana was the woman?

Is this what it feels like for your team to win a championship? I'm still on cloud nine, trying to figure out what photo to put up for my desktop wallpaper.

Also, the parade was freaking glorious. I think the Phillies just made my year. :D

So far going with the McGraw/Lidge one.

Right now seems to be the closest to what sports were like in my prime sports ages growing up (I guess I was given false advertisement). Though it is still far from even that kind of success.

The Flyers had come off back to back championships and had a strong showing in the playoffs every year. The Sixers were contenders and won in 83. The Phillies came off a few Division titles to finally get over the hump and win a World Series and would return just three years later. The Eagles would be in the playoffs and make the Super Bowl, though not win. Then the mid to late 80's came and I found out what Philly sports were really like.

That's exactly the same feeling I had in 2005 when the White Sox won the World Series. Was the first time in my sporting life one of my teams won a title.
