I guess it might have something to do with the social-mobility ideal/semi-myth in this country, but I still find it curious that people are almost trained to find race more important than class...

I agree 100%. That's why I never understood the clan blaming blacks for their problems, last time I checked black people generally aren't rich.

BTW I hate Al Sharpton.

Williams didn't gloat about killing the person in a hypothetical book. That move raised my dislike of OJ up by a factor of at least a thousand.

So were the cops that beat up Rodney King. And people still carry on about that. People only look to a jury verdict as some kind of proof of something when it serves their own prejudice.

Before the murder trial, I couldn't have told you who Phil Spector was or what he did that apparently made him famous. I might have guessed that he must have been married to Ronnie Spector (who I only really knew from that Eddie Money song) at some point. I believe my total knowledge of him to date is that he has really bad hair (from pictures during the trial era), and that he apparently killed someone and got away with it. It's hard to hate someone you are unfamiliar with. Would I like to see him executed for his crime? Absolutely.

O.J. is a celebrity who I was pretty familiar with before the murders. I was a big fan of the Naked Gun movies (which I can't watch anymore because the fun is gone), and was familiar with him from commercials and his days in the NFL. So yeah, his being a murderer is more personal to me. I've watched him taunt the Goldman family because he got away with murder. Does seeing him get convicted for something else make me feel good? You betcha.
