I just realized that I'm used to seeing Parise's team lose in the final minute of an elimination game. :(

Tigercat 02-28-2010 04:44 PM

Best finish to a winter olympics ever? Top nation in total medals vs top nation in golds, squaring off in the marquee sport, in overtime.

I am not a hockey guy at all, are many of us against going to a shootout because it takes away from a well played game, because Canada has a real advantage there, or both?

whomario 02-28-2010 04:44 PM

Journey FTW, love the music at hockey games. All the songs you donīt dare to own but still love to listen to everytime they are on :D

I'm against it going to a shootout because it's akin to ending a tied Super Bowl with a field goal kicking contest.

bbor 02-28-2010 04:46 PM

Why did they change ends? That's dumb......long changes for both teams now.

Pumpy Tudors 02-28-2010 04:47 PM

I just realized that jbergey was right all along. I guess this IS the fourth quarter.

Haha:lol:

cartman 02-28-2010 04:48 PM

ah, didn't realize they upped it to 20 minutes for the gold medal game.

bbor 02-28-2010 04:48 PM

Wow...Canada looks tired

JediKooter 02-28-2010 04:50 PM

Ok I'm wrong. LOL oh well. Usually these things don't last that long.

DaddyTorgo 02-28-2010 04:51 PM

"What a defensive play by Brooks Orpik on that 2-on-1" --- :D

wade moore 02-28-2010 04:53 PM

the 4 on 4 thing is an international rule, right?

DaddyTorgo 02-28-2010 04:53 PM

shit

wade moore 02-28-2010 04:53 PM

ugh.

whomario 02-28-2010 04:53 PM

go figure :)

Lathum 02-28-2010 04:53 PM

Damn

Eaglesfan27 02-28-2010 04:53 PM

Ugh. Figures it would be Crosby.

sterlingice 02-28-2010 04:54 PM

Had to be Crosby, too, didn't it? :(

SI

JediKooter 02-28-2010 04:54 PM

Great game though.

Pumpy Tudors 02-28-2010 04:54 PM

Hell of a finish. Great game to watch.

mauchow 02-28-2010 04:54 PM

Canada was getting way too many good shots and finally capitalized on one.

jbergey22 02-28-2010 04:54 PM

Crap, cant believe we let Crosby play hockey in Minnesota.

Good game, Congrats Canada.

No, it is a relatively recent change in both the NHL and international play.

DaddyTorgo 02-28-2010 04:54 PM

Seemed like the US guys were far more back on their heels during the OT, so wasn't really a huge surprise I guess.

Not exactly. In the regular season, the NHL plays 4-on-4 overtime, but it's only 5 minutes before a shootout. In the playoffs, the NHL plays full 5-on-5 20-minute overtime periods until somebody scores.

sterlingice 02-28-2010 04:55 PM

Still, fitting that one of the two best players in the world won the Olympics.

Nothing for the US (or Ryan Miller) to hang their head about. Taking Canada on their home ice to OT. Really nice showing and a far cry from "thrown out of their hotel for partying too hard".

SI

Lathum 02-28-2010 04:55 PM

Pick your head up Ryan Miller we wouldn't be near this game without you

cartman 02-28-2010 04:56 PM

Hell of game. Congrats to the Canucks!

Agreed with all of this. Great game by Miller. Congrats to the Canucks!

whomario 02-28-2010 04:57 PM

great, great play on that "give and go" kind of situation. I donīt know much about hockey, but even i recognized that :)

Philliesfan980 02-28-2010 04:58 PM

I'll tell you what, I haven't watched hockey really since the early 00's (got tired of the Flyers crap year after year), and wow, what a game.

Watching this game makes me want to tune into more games during the regular season... and I thought I'd never say that.

yacovfb 02-28-2010 04:58 PM

When's the rubber match? :P

Great game, disappointing result especially with the renewed hope with that last US goal.

Pumpy Tudors 02-28-2010 05:01 PM

Seeing the replay, it's amazing how Crosby made Rafalski look so pedestrian on that final goal.

Regular season resumes tomorrow, and the Devils are back on the ice Tuesday. I'm looking forward to a lot of good hockey over the next few months.

Suburban Rhythm 02-28-2010 05:06 PM

I work with a Flyers fan (yes there are two in Pittsburgh, Sak and this guy).

Just before OT, he sends a text "If Crosby wins it, I'll be out sick all week"

I text back about 2 mins ago "Eh-vian flu?"

johnnyshaka 02-28-2010 05:06 PM

I can finally breathe.

What a finish...from tying it up to the OT winner...can't ask for a better game than that.

JediKooter 02-28-2010 05:07 PM

Are all the american players named Ryan?

Yes. In one respect or another

MJ4H 02-28-2010 05:11 PM

i hate everyone

sterlingice 02-28-2010 05:14 PM

I'm sorry, but I can't help but think this the fitting end to the Canadian Olympics (the whole arena singing "Oh, Canada" after this win)

SI

whomario 02-28-2010 05:14 PM

i love how they trot those mounties out everytime thereīs a camera and/or mass of people near by, a police corp as a mascot, how cool is that ? :D

It is and it was a great atmosphere at basically all events (even when canada didnīt have a shot at a medal), people really embraced that event and made it their own.

Ah, alrighty.

cartman 02-28-2010 05:22 PM

I wonder if Ovechkin got physically ill when Crosby scored that goal.

bbor 02-28-2010 05:24 PM

Congrats to both teams....you made me love this sport even more(if that was possible)

I have a feeling many more people share this sentiment. What a great shot in the arm for Hockey, these Olympics may have done more for the sport in America than any single thing since Lake Placid, at least in the short term.

Helluva game by both teams, Ryan Miller was outstanding this whole tournament and the USA played their asses off. Congrats to Canada and I have to say the atmosphere at the end with the whole arena singing was something to behold.

Chief Rum 02-28-2010 05:27 PM

Am I the only one who was yelling at the TV every time Crosby came on during the medal ceremony, "Okay, now punch him in the face!" :D

Chief Rum 02-28-2010 05:28 PM

BTW, if Bettman doesn't allow NHLers in Sochi, I will literally punch him in the face if I ever get the chance to meet him.
