Actually I was surprised that a number of people didn't ask too much about the game. I am really stunned at how many people are still playing Football Pro 98. I mean I have fond memories of the game and all, but geez, I would hope that they would have far more expectations for an indie game with the tools available for them today.

This thread makes me point out something else that I've been meaning to point out...

How the crap did they choose such useless beta testers?! I mean.. this guy seems to ahve just goofed off with the game here and there, not actually BETA tested it...

My thoughts exactly. Almost like he starts to have an idea of what he wants to say, but then once you finish reading you realize he didn't really say anything. I think we found the new white house spokesman.

In this thread, they all don't look so good. But somehow.....*it* survives.

God, the beta testers thread is just bizzare. Some highlights:

Well the people that were starting it (testers) to make a multi player test league all quit around the time to kick off. It takes a special breed to run a league.

Always good when everyone quits and you are left with one guy to test multiplayer.

I will also not be reviewing the game, because I know the game and want it to do well, I feel I would not give an unbiased review.

Ummm, you're kidding, right? What a ringing endorsement. I know I'm excited about purchasing this game now.

A lot i guess. The fans are desperate for the perfect football sim, a mix of madden graphs with a real sim depth (and this one is advertised as that perfect mix). Also have on mind that not everybody reads the boards. If well marketed, the game could sell a ton no mater how crap we all guess it's going to be. Then another thing will be all the dissapointed customers in a few days, but then the developer aleady has the money in his pocket.

My understanding is the game is only available online via either download or snail mail, so I don't see a lot of people buying it without at least a small amount of online research. There seems to be a few fans who have been following the game for the last decade or so, but outside of that sales will probably depend on word of mouth and reviews on internet sites. If the game is actually solid and plays well, I think it will sell ok...if it sucks, I'm guessing less than 2000 copies.

Is this thread a case of Any publicity is good publicity? You know, the old "The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about."

I mean, I understand the game will speak for itself, but this thread had garnered a lot of attention for the game it otherwise would not have had.

I've long ago given up buying new games, including Matrix games, and I'm a Matrix fan. This game seems especially prone to be a game that -- even if it turns out to be a really good game -- is going to have lots of growing problems once released. And I frankly have to wonder about folks who can't have the patience to wait and see what is said about a game and its problems before buying it, people who buy on the first day and then scream bloody murder when the game is not perfect.

As for me, I noticed Fast Break College Basketball on my desktop a couple of weeks ago and opened it up and continued a career I had dropped about a year ago. And I'm having fun with that. It is a nice little game, even if it isn't supported any longer, and even if it is not the best thing out there.

After 7 years the game should be perfect...no?........but i guess Rome was'nt built in a day :)

That beta tester should've just said "You can ask me questions, but i'm not going to answer in a way which will tell you anything about the actual game."

I think this thread will break a record if the game has a number of bugs after it's release and it will also be interesting to see how it is handled.

Well someone here is GroundCat, it sounds a lot like some of our other current trolls, so I doubt a wig.

The problem is everyone on that site is a troll or a potential troll.(except for the mods, developers, and significant-others). Even the regular posters can't possilbe be so fucking stupid as to expect a playable game on Monday, I mean Tuesday, I mean next week, etc. so they could be trolling, too. I can't keep track of my trolls without a scorecard. It's like tea-bagging a wolverine.

Is BaboonHeart HA? I just spent 15 minutes laughing out loud at his posts and the reactions of the others.

I'm pretty sure that the GroundCat that was here was wignifty, not wignasty, although I can't prove that. He went to GREAT lengths to spoof IP's and hide his identity, even in his e-mails to Jim and me. If I recall, I'm not sure any two e-mails from him came from the same person, and he logged on here under a completely different IP every time. I do, however, know for sure that wignifty had to be involved, because "GroundCat" posted a fabricated e-mail from me at HA's site that was identical in structure to an e-mail I sent wignifty a long time ago, detailing the conditions of his ever returning to FOFC. He just changed some of the phrases around.

Ok, I'm late to the game, but here's my impression of the beta tester that people have referenced here:

A: "The Y is pretty good. Of course, the way I like Y may be different than your Y so please don't ask me this again."

I believe he's referring to someone posting as "wig". I don't think he posted in the main forum, but one of the subforums.

Almost pissed my pants from laughter yesterday. My daughter and I were at the local Borders and we were was about to get in the check-out line when I spotted the "Literary" section and decided to peruse for a few more minutes.

When I got to the Ayn Rand section, I picked up Atlas Shrugged and began thumbing through the pages. I remembered this thread's mention regarding John Galt's moniker coming from AS so I figured I'd give it a go trying to find the passage (a bit of a mini-game, if you will). To my utter amazement (it doesn't take much, I know), it is the very first line in the book. The laugh that came out of me was so natural and unabated that it caused several patrons to give me the raised Spock-eyebrow treatment. It was enough that even my 5 year-old grabbed my hand and said, "Dad, those people are looking at us. Let's go."
