I think it's a little unfortunate that you made joke picks with your final two picks, though

I think it's unfortunate you take this so seriously.

It's like when I took all guys with the sex symbol draft, some people liked my out of the box thinking.

14.9 International Space Station Manmade Structure Russia 20th Century
My country will be represented not only on earth, but also in the heavens.

Barkeep49 05-23-2009 01:01 PM

I choose Russia as the country because along with the US they are the main country responsible for its construction and operation.

DaddyTorgo 05-23-2009 01:03 PM

wasn't the international space station already chosen? for that matter i believe 'manmade object + russia" was already chosen - it forced me to change my pick of manmade object

larrymcg421 05-23-2009 01:11 PM

Yeah, Russia has already been picked in that category.

Barkeep49 05-23-2009 01:12 PM

My bad. I missed it when I was looking over the picks. Let me get a new choice up.

Barkeep49 05-23-2009 01:16 PM

14.10 Sir Arthur Lewis, Economist, St. Lucia, 20th

First black person to win an academic Nobel, one of only three people outside of western Europe and the US to ever win a Nobel in Economics. Groundbreaking work in developing world economies and their transition to modern economies. His economic models were adopted as policy by countries from Hong Kong (at the time it was in a city-state phase), Singapore, Jamaica and more.

Heh, I was considering taking the LHC myself if I needed a 20th century structure.

DaddyTorgo 05-23-2009 02:18 PM

nice pick abe!

Abe Sargent 05-23-2009 02:19 PM

Thanks

Abe Sargent 05-23-2009 02:28 PM

He's a no name guy, but I like the fact that I have a nobel winning economist who actually was the first President of the Caribbean Development Bank and turned it into a major financial institution with a mission statement of helping infrastructure and development of Carribbean countries. He was successful, not just in theory, but in practice as well. I like that, even if no one will notice.

Surtt 05-23-2009 02:34 PM

14.11 Vinko Bogataj, Athlete, Slovenia, Post-20

"...and the agony of defeat."

Abe Sargent 05-23-2009 02:51 PM

One more pick left!

Apathetic Lurker 05-23-2009 03:23 PM

hmmm Mr (or Mrs or It ) Irellevant...gimme a few to figure out.. I just went back to work and have been slammed with reams upon reams of paper to fill out..
Guess 10 months of medical will do that..

okee..dokee.. I cant figure this one out... So I will take the damnest easy way out

Justice minister David Koepsell USA 20th century none of you know him..hes a lawyer, writer, big time into ethics and a high school buddy.. sorta fits into the justice position..I disagree with most of his politics so he'd be perfect...Better than my original choice of Heinie Himmler.....

larrymcg421 05-23-2009 03:37 PM

Once the pick is made, I'm going to open a new thread and we'll do something a little different before the voting starts.

Sorry Apathetic US Justice Minister has been off the board for a good long while.

larrymcg421 05-23-2009 04:06 PM

I pm'd Apathetic to repick.

Buccaneer 05-23-2009 04:29 PM

The best thing about this draft is that Izulde will not finish in his usual last place. :)

Apathetic Lurker 05-23-2009 09:02 PM

hmm and someone took his new residence in the Netherlands..so im screwed

I dont see a Polish Justice here..

So for my Justice Minister, giving a little love to my Nationality I chose:
Felix Dzerzinsky, Poland, Justice Minister, 20th C.. I like my justice not to be burdened by silly notions of law and justice

:D I'm shocked. A draft where Bucc doesn't have me last.

DaddyTorgo 05-23-2009 09:08 PM

i'd bitch about Dzerhinzinsky being barely-Polish (born into a Polish noble family in present day Minsk (Belarus). I think you'd do better to clarify him as from Belarus or from Russia (think that's still available in Justice Minister) but whatever, I'm not really complaining. Not like you're trying to get around a blocked situation.

He was Polish.. Noble born even. My dad was born in Pinsk(modern Belarus) in 1932 in what was then Poland. Tell him he's Belarussian and you will be fighting... He is 100% Polish.. So no..just because he was born in what is present day Belarus does not make Felix Belarussian or Russian

You do have three outstanding picks, so that should count for something. :)

..and yet William Wallace is a member of the UK

Those are just the breaks in this draft. :)

However, I know noting about this guy, and I assume he had an official position with the Polish government, so that seems fine.
