To kinda link on with Abe's picks per round I thought Iwould toss in my view as well.
Best Picks per round:
Round 1: Izulde The Red Baron. A strong pick in perhaps the weekest category
Round 2: Danny -Gandhi. There were several very solid picks here, this is slightly above a couple others
Round 3:Coffee Warlord-Shakespeare. in a basically pre 20th century round snAagging the best writer was a good get here.
Round 4:Izulde-Hammurabi. This went in a different direction than I expected and started several picks dealing with creating codes of law
Round 5:surrt-Churchill. a very solid diplomat and a steal in this round.
Round 6:Izulde --Gallileo another round with several close together at the top, where the one named eeked out a place over several other worthy contestants
Round 7:DT -Metternich. A good pick in a round with a lot of average picks filling up categories.
Round 8:Barkeep Yin sun-sin. This was a barely one again. I actually had another wrote down before I changed it.
Round 9:Barkeep-Suliman. A great pick at a crowded position
Round 10:Coffee Warlord: Dunant Perhaps this is because Ihad him pegged as who Iwanted, that Isaw this a a great grab in a quickly narrowing field of suspects
Round 11:Abe: Michelangelo. I thought it was a brilliant pick at the time and after looking at others picked that round it still apears to be so.

There are a couple of my picks I thought about putting in there. but it would have only been a couple.

Slooooooooooowwwwwwww

Surtt 05-20-2009 06:23 PM

Did anyone PM Barkeep?

Abe Sargent 05-20-2009 06:23 PM

He hasn;t logged on since 1:00 this afternoon

Abe Sargent 05-20-2009 10:32 PM

Is there a "You Took Too Long" rule?

Lathum 05-20-2009 10:33 PM

this draft has been fun but I think there were 2 to many catergories

Noop 05-20-2009 10:39 PM

I wish the rule was you can pick two of the same category except different eras.

i.e.
Leader: George Washington Pre 20th Ronald Reagen 20th
Both American.

I vote if he does not select by 900 am tomorrow he be passed and his pick go to the end of the round.

Abe Sargent 05-20-2009 11:18 PM

I think we should just NFL Draft rule it. If it goes after a certain ;length of time, the draft goes on, but if you show back up, you can make your pick immediately.

I think if I were to run this on another board, I'd drop the two non-people categories and add one: thinker. That's it though.

Isn't it covered already by philosopher more or less?

ntndeacon 05-20-2009 11:38 PM

we didn't have a philosopher category

larrymcg421 05-20-2009 11:42 PM

After starting the draft, I thought of thinker and explorer, but we had already gone too far to change it.

ntndeacon 05-20-2009 11:43 PM

those would have been better than the non people categories Ithink.

Izulde 05-20-2009 11:43 PM

I tried folding explorer into naval category, but I don't think that was a good pick. :/

Some early evaluations for discussion:

Abe's MVP picks for each rounds:

1. Barkeep's Adam Smith. Very good.

2. Danny's Ghandi

3. Surtt's Dalai Lama - A great 20th century pickup in a category that skews pre-20th for the big names.

4. BK's Moses. As Justice Minster. Very interesting.

5. Izulde's COnfucious. Great value.

6. Abe's John Locke. Biggest and best name in a round of role players.

7. Noop's Saladin. Weak round of role picks and stretches.

8. DaddyTorgo's Martin Luther - Great value this late.

9. CW's Henry Morgan. Good name recognition here.

10. Izulde's Queen Isabella. One of the top rulers still on the board

11. Abe's Michelangelo. One of the best artists of all time in the 11th is great value.

Abe's most ??? pick of each round

1. Noop's Oil pick

2. DT's pick of Galbraith. If you have to google him in the 2nd round...

3. Ntndeacon's Teddy Roosevelt. Much better available.

4. The round of many reaches had many suspect picks. I think 5 picks were reaches. Worst pick? Galaril's JS Mill with John Locke still on the board.

5. Abe's Togo. I took him too soon. too much of a reach.

6. Danny's Hitchcock. WTF?

7. Lathum's Mao, way too many better rulers on the board

8. CW's Arafat. Really? 20th cventury is full of great diplomats with some name recognition that don't have a cloud over their head to take Arafat.

9. Apathetic Lurker - I'm not even sure what he is trying to do with this pick. It's like taking The World as your pick.

10. Lathum's Smith. There are a ton of better pre-20th people running around for religious than Smith.

11. Lathum's Bono. Again, diplomat in 20th century is so deep, you don't have to stretch for a part-time humanitarian.

Enjoy!

Sorry you disagree. I thought of Locke but decided since it was for Civil rights and not philosopher I liked Mills better. It certainly does not appear to be that egregious of a choice IMHO.

Abe Sargent 05-21-2009 09:34 AM

I have BK's profile up and I refresh it every couple of hours in its tab.

DaddyTorgo 05-21-2009 09:39 AM

what categories does he have left? can we get in a couple picks while waiting for him that way?

Noop 05-21-2009 09:55 AM

I like Barkeep I think work has him swamped however we might need to go NFL on him and keep passing him until he arrives.

Abe Sargent 05-21-2009 10:13 AM

I agree, it's been 22 hours since he last checked in. NFL him, and when he comes back, he can immediately make picks, but in the meantime, the draft continues.

DaddyTorgo 05-21-2009 10:26 AM

eh - i say give him 24 hours - has anyone IM'd him?

DaddyTorgo 05-21-2009 10:27 AM

i just sent him an IM - he's only been idle 26 minutes there so let's give him one last shot hmm?

Barkeep49 05-21-2009 11:10 AM

American Heartland - US 20th Century
Never has so much food been grown per acre.

Barkeep49 05-21-2009 11:10 AM

Sorry about my tardiness. I simply hadn't had time to check the board. Sorry again, hate to have slowed things down for so long.

Coffee Warlord 05-21-2009 11:13 AM

This Noop now, or the other direction?

Surtt 05-21-2009 11:15 AM

I think it is Abe

ntndeacon 05-21-2009 11:15 AM

12.9 btw

Abe Sargent 05-21-2009 12:22 PM

12.10 The Nile, Geographical Location, Egypt, 20th

Barkeep49 05-21-2009 12:23 PM

20th? I certainly thought of the Nile, but couldn't justify it as a 20th Century pick.

Abe Sargent 05-21-2009 12:24 PM

Even in this century, its impact in the culture of the area has been significant.

Surtt 05-21-2009 12:25 PM

12.11 Justinian I, Justice Minister, Turkey, Pre-20

DaddyTorgo 05-21-2009 12:26 PM

far better as pre-20th but still a good pick - coulda gone with the canal or the aswan high dam imho as better 20th c picks

Danny 05-21-2009 12:28 PM

Just wait until I cross breed my amazon rain forest species into a team of flawless insect/animal soldiers.

A solid pick

Danny 05-21-2009 12:31 PM

I had the second post in the thread, so I edited my sign up post to show the picks by category than Larry posted a couple pages back.

Abe Sargent 05-21-2009 06:47 PM

Delays again, apparently.

Danny 05-21-2009 06:49 PM

Did someone send a PM to apathetic?

Abe Sargent 05-21-2009 07:07 PM

He hasn;t been here since 12:40 or so this afternoon
