that is seriously the best cat video ever.

Drake 06-24-2011 09:01 AM

One of my cats (first time mom) just finished off eating her four kitten litter over the span of a week.

She'd eat everything but the head, then leave that on the porch for me to clean up.

Not all cats are good moms.

Seriously!??!!?

And you didn't like...do anything to stop her?

That's some fucked up shit by the cat, and some pretty fucked up shit by you also.

And I'm anything but a cat lover.

I have to think he was trying to make a joke

Jughead Spock 06-24-2011 10:35 AM

They will kill/abandon them if something's wrong, but that sounds like a flat out serial kitty-killer. Probably abused humans as a kitten.

I'm not sure exactly what you're proposing I should do to stop an outdoor/barn cat from eating its own litter hidden somewhere on my 40 acres. Maybe you also expect me to stop it from raining when my neighbor's roof leaks. Or maybe you're just an idiot. Hard to tell from the material you've given me to work with here.

I've had several cats that would abandon litters if they perceived the batch to be sick or simply weren't up to the challenge of raising them. Cats seem to do that with some frequency. I've seen them remove the sickly ones, push them away until they starved to death or simply dump them several hundred feet away from the rest of the litter. It's not un-rare for a mother cat to flat-out kill the "extra", "wrong", sick or puny kittens.

The only oddity about this one was that the mother cat ate her own seemingly healthy offspring and decided to bring me the remains. I mean, I understand why she's not eating the heads. Too much bone/cartilage for the investment. I'm just not sure why she brings them to me.

She probably thinks your the Cat in Charge (CIC). She is bringing you the trophies. You need to praise her for the effort. I bet she is a great mouser.

Does this cat have a favorite playmate cat? Kinda of like a best friend she hangs out with? If so, next time your cat seems to be in baby eating mode, find it's friend and chop it's head off. When she presents you with a head of it's baby, present her with the head of her friend. It's like trading gifts and probably a sign of respect in the cat world.

Drake 06-24-2011 01:17 PM

Great ideas.

My current plan, however, is to see how she handles her second litter, and if she can't take care of them/eats them, then I have her fixed like the others. I need one good breeder to keep up my population of mousers. Ideally, I like to have 8-10 cats...we lose about six a year to coyotes and other nuisance animals (and several more to respiratory illnesses, accidents, hunting traps, etc), and you know, the humane society will not give you cats if you say you're going to use them as barn cats.

She seems to be pretty good at getting knocked up. Now I just need to see if she's got any maternal instinct in there.

(Our last breeder, who I've decided to retire after this summer, has had so many litters, she's literally worn the fur off of her side from spending so much time on her back. She's quite the strumpet. Good cat, though. Very affectionate, as you can imagine.)

dolfin 06-24-2011 01:21 PM

This thread has really gotten off track :)

Anyway, maybe the mouse population is experiencing a downturn and she was desperate for food.

Was at an animal hoarders house this weekend ... - Front Office Football Central

Edit: not saying you're an animal hoarder, but maybe we can ship you like 50 cats if you want.

Just to be clear: I don't keep these cats like they're feral. We feed/water them twice a day. We play with them. They have shelter readily available in the barn. Most of them lounge on the porch all day long.

They're farm cats.

And to keep this on topic:

Fuck you for calling me an idiot. I didn't realize it was an outdoor/barn cat, and I didn't realize you had 40 acres of land (neither of which points you mentioned).

In that sense it's much more understandable. Nothing in your post indicated that information - therefore I assumed it was a typical "house cat."

Rizon - your insertion picture is a bit disappointing. So many good cat fight pictures you could have used.

Or you could have gone with Catwoman.

OR you could have gone with a fight involving Catwoman.

ORRRRRRRRR I could have done the same...but I'm just not cool like that either.

Oh man, I googled "cat fight" and took safe-search off, and man ... I was there for a little while.

I didn't want to get boxed :D

It was like being 8 years old and placed in a Lego factory and told "go at it!".

But yes, I was considering it!

Waking up to this was quite weird. I was actually working on the day. I started about 3 in the morning and didn't know it had blanketed the city until daylight a few hours later. Street lights and everything were still on until the dust cloud went away.

Here's some photos that I took on my phone:

How annoying would it be for me to point out that the cab ride is just to take him from the airport to Bel Air? You can tell because the Hollywood sign is in the background when it picks him up. Also, in the longer version of the theme song it shows him on the plane.

I spray them with that foamy stuff that sticks to them and they drop to the ground. Then I stomp the f#@k out of them.
